Raw oysters
Amber W.

I know this is a Temple institution, but just sharing my experience. Came in on a Friday night, so expected it to be busy. Service, while a bit slow, was friendly. The atmosphere felt a bit chaotic especially from our seat that was near the bathroom and kitchen. Against our better judgment, we ordered the raw oysters (my husband had been craving them) and they were served on ice instead of the shell leading us to believe they were not fresh. We got one little sliver of lemon and something that resembled cocktail sauce? We recognized that maybe this was just not the best choice at a non-seafood restaurant. Onto the entrees: hamburger steak with mashed potatoes and okra and double cheeseburger with onion rings. Everything was cooked well and nicely presented, but so BLAND. Like no salt whatsoever in any of the food. Also, I know times are hard, but instant mashed potatoes were surprising to see. So while nothing was necessarily "bad" and I wouldn't say to not go here, just expected more flavorful southern food. If you don't mind the lack of salt or seasoning, then the food was fine. However, I definitely wouldn't recommend the oysters. Not sure if I would go back for dinner, but I would probably do a to go burger.

fast lunch pace, great food and amazing service. Great conversation with complete strangers who were also enjoying their lunch there. Family business who cares about the customers and has been there forever. we will come back.

Not to fond of this place, Very cute place a lot of character to it . Lacked a lot of flavor in the food. Waiter was attentive and great attitude helpful with opinions on what to eat. she recommended the chicken fried steak . Although I did not get that. Wish I would've maybe It would've been better than the meat loaf I ordered. Burger was decent. Sweet tea was great. I may of missed the sign but when I went to check out they let me know it was CASH ONLY. Luckily they did have an atm machine right outside the door but that did have a fee of 3.00..

The service was great. Staff was friendly and attentive! Lots of people and lots of noise! Mood is very energetic! Family style seating. I had the chicken fried steak and it was great. The country gravy finished off the steak in the traditional style! My daughter had the fish and it was excellent! Meaty and crunchy! Grandson had the burger and said he want to come back again!

Old Jody's is the true definition of good 'ol Texas cooking. When you walk in you are welcomed to pictures on the wall of Texas country music king George Strait, rustic but small town modern feel. Open kitchen to see "cookie" making your food and servers running back and forth holding something everytime they come in and out of the kitchen area. 9 times out of 10 it's a busy spot. I get the double cheeseburger which is made homestyle which is not over seasoned and not flavorless neither. Onion rings are homemade and extremely delicious but the chili cheese fries are also top tier. Chicken fried steak is definitely Texas sized but on the thin side, I'll be honest with you and tell you it is pretty unseasoned and the gravy carries it a long way. Mashed potatoes have a powder taste but luckily I'm not too good for instant mash lol. For your beverage get the "Arnold Palmer" with sweet tea because they have this down pat. If you ever find yourself in Temple and driving by this place definitely stop by and taste some true Texan eats.

Came to this historic place to have me a nice bowl of chili and a baked potato... You just can't eat old Jody's! We had a great waitress, and I love the camaraderie between all of the employees. I crave their salads when it's been a while... And they have the best burgers and hamburger steak ever.

My wife had the special, Beef stew with Corn Bread. The catfish was very good and tasty both sides were good. The beef stew left a lot to be desired my wife was looking forward to it. Then she started picking out the meat with all the fat and grizzle on it, which ended up being 85% of all the meat in the bowl. we told the waitress about it and she seemed put off about it. She told the cook and the manager. A little while later she brings a small bowl out with " what she said the cook said had lean meat on it." the first three pieces I took off had more grizzle on it. Sorry not cutting it, the manager never came over to the table to say anything or acknowledge the problem. A little concern would have been nice. went to pay the bill and the girl at the register said she could charge me half price for the food. I guess that is the best they can do, so it would seem all they want is your money and not trying to fix the problem. we will never cross this threshold again wishing you the best in the future.

Big building with spacious dining areas, outdoor space, and the pickleball courts of course. There's also an upstairs area that's exclusively for members. The interior and exterior design is exceptional. Very clean and pleasing to the eye. Welcome to All - not just pickleballers! High end liquors with experienced mixologists. Great cocktail list. Wine list was pretty short but had some good bottles on it. Brunch food was good. The breakfast croissant sandwich was hard to handle and fell apart but tasty. The Southern Poutine was hearty and comforting (sausage in lieu of cheese curds) The bartender was exceptional-knowledgeable, engaging, and attentive. Would love to see a broader wine list with greater range. Was disappointed they didn't have the fireplaces on especially since it's been so cold. A nice fireplace would have really elevated the experience by adding a cozy atmosphere. Also, they have a fruit fly problem.

About server was nice and attentive even though we were the only ones outside at first. That said, overall we were nickel and dimed for everything. It really felt like they just want money. If a 14 year old wants to order off the kids menu, they charge an extra $4, but it's not an adult portion, it's the same amount of food they just want you to pay more. It makes me not want to bring kids here. Also, if you're eating and the pickle ball courts are empty, there is no discount for playing pickle ball, and they make sure to tell you that you will be charged while you eat your meal. The courts are empty and they don't have any reservations for them, but they need their money. We were told they would provide paddles and balls, so we didn't get ours from the car, and then we were charged for them. I love eating at great restaurants, but when a restaurant nickels and dimes you..it feels cheap.

Our server was very sweet and efficient- there when we needed her but not hovering. The food is glorious. They are a bit on the expensive side, but the food is so good we did not mind the prices. I had the chicken and waffles - nicely crisp chicken breast with very tasty waffles. My husband and granddaughter-in-law had the steak and eggs - with really good potatoes and onions; both were SO impressed with the flavor and the preparation. (I will be having this next time!). My grandson had 'Hong Kong' French toast, which I believe was made with Japanese milk bread and had berries and a custard. Also came with eggs and bacon. He could not speak highly enough about it. The portions are LARGE. We all took food home. I shared my plate with my great granddaughter (2 yrs) and still took food home! Honestly, we had booked another restaurant for the weekend of Mother's Day (day before) and we canceled that reservation so that we could go back to Farmers Commons! It's that good. Also, all the folks working when we were there were very sweet with my great granddaughter; we appreciated that. HIGHLY recommend for brunch. Now i want to try dinner too!

Since it's a small space and echoey, we could not hear ourselves over the group of people talking. Drinks: We started with the Queen Bee cocktail and a red wine. The cocktail was good but I didn't feel the mixture of flavors worked well for my taste. I can't recall the name of the wine but it was a nice wine to pair with red meat. Appetizers: we started with the fried green tomatoes and the Caesar wedge salad. The tomatoes were a little bland and came out cold (not sure if that was on purpose?). The wedge was good but was slathered in dressing which made it a little too rich. *Side note: I realized after we left that complimentary bread was mentioned on the appetizer menu, but I'm unclear if we had to ask for that...? It was never offered nor brought out. I decided against ordering the French baguette because I assumed there was complimentary bread. Entrees: I had the Ravioli Diablo and my husband tried the Sea Bass special that came with clams, mussels and lobster ravioli. The Ravioli Diablo was just OK, kind of a small portion. For the special, he liked the mussels but thought the sea bass was a little overdone. In hindsight, there was a lot going on with that plate; the ravioli was a bit out of place and it could've used a nice risotto or rice instead. Dessert: we tried ordering Creme brulee but they were out so we ordered the "brown butter" cheesecake instead...I'm including the description from the menu and a picture of the bare cheesecake loaf I received with no toppings (I took the picture after my husband took a bite). I'm actually most disappointed about this since I was hoping it would be the part of the meal to make up for the mediocrity of everything else. "Vanilla bean brown butter with candied pecans and soft whipped cream" Honestly I tried to be optimistic but it was overall not the experience I was hoping for. Especially for a $200 bill.
