Chicken Fried Steak with Home Fries (Gravy on the side)
    Darrel B.

My wife and I tried Fry's because it was close to the Expo center. I had the chicken fried steak with a salad and home fries. It was great! I shouldn't have eaten it all because the portions were huge. It was so good I couldn't stop. My wife had the chicken fried chicken, salad and loaded mashed potatoes. She let me try it and it was great also! I would highly recommend this place, especially if you are really hungry.

Finally a place to get grilled fish in this area. Quick service, basic menu with the typical variety of Southern foods. Did a good job with the dish. Grilled Tilapia was not overcooked and tender. Corn and broccoli were fresh. Good work!

Two Avocado Burritos with Spicy Chipotle sauce, and Pico de Gallo

Came for breakfast around 11:30am, on a Saturday. I got the 2 Avocado Burritos, hubby got the Chicken Fried Steak breakfast. Both had coffee. Portions are Big! Burritos were good in flavor and hot in temp, the way it's supposed to be. Spicy chipotle sauce has a good kick (for my liking) but flavorful. Pico, not so much. Chicken Fried Steak Breakfast was Delicious!! The gravy, the steak, hash browns and eggs were nice and Hot in temp!! Service was quick, polite, and consistent.

Fry's Restaurant was a busy place on a Saturday morning in Belton. The pancake was really tasty and the omelette was pretty good. The service wasn't exceptional which is why it got 4 stars. And I was charged $3 for mushrooms on my omelette, what?!? Will I be back, maybe.

Steak omelet with add bell pepper

Needed somewhere to kill an hour while I anxiously awaited my dog's surgery to be over and stumbled upon this place. Doesn't look like anything special inside and is set up very cafeteria style which is fine. But I gotta say, I've never had a better steak omelet served at a restaurant. Will definitely be back!

Ham egg and Swiss cheese crepe

Excellent food very fast service. I had the two ham egg and cheddar crepes. They were smothered in a Swiss cheese sauce. Absolutely delectable. The hash brown was a side and was crispy the way I like it. Always busy a great place to come.

Good food and service! The burger is 10x better the 5 Guys Burgers and Fry's. The atmosphere was pleasant and clean.

Stopped by for breakfast during the week. The service was OK, the food was OK but the price was a little high. $15 for an omelet!

What BBQ place on the list happens to be open on a Monday (and quite frankly, seven days a week)? Miller's Smokehouse in Belton. Miller's Smokehouse has one of the longest tenures on the Texas Monthly Top 50, making the list four times in a row (the third-highest behind Louie Mueller and Snow's). They've got their business down. As I arrived, I parked in a free parking lot just across the street and got into the line around 12:30. The line moves pretty efficiently, and you order separately from the barbecue line. I think this immediately felt disheartening as a barbecue fan. You kinda expect to get your food while in line and watch the assembly of workers put it together, instead of them being in a separate location in the back giving you order numbers. It doesn't feel like a true Texas barbecue experience and more like a Dickey's Barbecue Pit. Instead of going for a tray, I opted for one of their specialty sandwiches, the El Gallo Picante. It has their spicy hot link sausage and their smoked chicken topped with coleslaw, onions, jalapeños, pickles, and barbecue sauce. I also got a side of their broccoli salad out of curiosity and a roll of their homemade cornbread. I got my drink and sat down with my roll of cornbread. It wasn't long until my tray came to me. The sandwich stood on its own as a behemoth. So much chicken and sausage fell out of the bun. The sandwich was less concerned about being a sandwich and more focused on creating a space to try and contain a mixture of ingredients. It wasn't bad, but it was hard to say anything other than that I felt uninspired by the entire thing. The sausage was fine, the chicken was kinda dry, but everything together with all the separate ingredients masked the meats' faults. The broccoli salad was a unique side that I had never seen before at a barbecue joint, so I wanted to try it. It was cool, but not something I'd get again. As for the cornbread, it was quality, but if that's the most impressive part of the meal, then I'm questioning the establishment's ability to create a good barbecue experience. I think it's so cool to have so many special barbecue places near me and the ability to try so many, but I'm starting to wonder if the places that stay on the list for four editions start to lose their oomph. Do they become complacent knowing they already have their business and are established? Is there any need to try and push the envelope when you're just a recurring guest on top barbecue lists? Is it a me issue? Is it my fault I went to Burnt Bean a week prior and now I'm trying a place that sells all-day barbecue? With your big brick-and-mortar and your TV screen menus, you're not as hungry as you used to be.

The flavors were spot on for the taco fillings, however the fact that the tortillas were undercooked was a real downer. We cannot overstate the importance of a properly cooked tortilla and how it makes or breaks the taco experience. ***On another note, and we really hope that management or the owner will read this comment. Please be mindful of your use of cleaning products. Nothing ruins the flavor of good food like the taste of Fabuloso in your mouth. This is not to throw shade on this business, but when you can taste a cleaning product in your food, this is not a good sign. Caution must be exercised when cleaning places where tortillas are stored, bags or supplies and containers that will be used for carry out food. Fabuloso and similar products like it contain very strong chemicals that will transfer over to anything that is permeable ruining your dining out experience.
