I came with a friend for my birthday, and we did the triple mimosa setup -- a whole bottle of champagne plus three juices of your choice. No notes. Perfect. The food was good, portions were solid, and the server was amazing -- super attentive without hovering. They also have a lot of breakfast options, so it's easy to find something you'll like. Stopped in for lunch at Megg's and loved it and the place also has a bakery attached to it. So pastries and bread to take home for later to sample prices seem reasonable. My wife had the Old Fashioned Oatmeal, they had an over abundance of Raisins on the food. It was more than enough for two people thought the bowl would be of a smaller size. I had the Build your own Omelette with Pork sausage, Green Pepper and Monterey Jack cheese with Rye toast. Omelette was wonderful will have to remember to ask for no seasoning on the potatoes, seemed very salty to me. Being I use no salt due to HBP, my wife tried them and said they were seasoned fine for her. Coffee both regular and Decaf was fresh at noon time so that was a plus. Our waitress was funny on the spot and service was spot on the whole time. Nice atmosphere and wonderful food. everyone seemed to be enjoying their meals and conversation level was low and not disturbing while you are eating. Look forward to coming to Megg's Cafe. The service and food are always great and the bakery provides the extra sweet once we get home. Today's lunch was on the covered outdoor patio where we hadn't been previously. Lovely clear day so the ambiance was very relaxing. Our choices today were the pastrami Reuben sandwich and the beet and Bibb salad with goat cheese and candied pecans and added grilled chicken. The salad had a balsamic dressing. One of the best beet salads I've ever eaten! So good! The sourdough bread was outstanding as well. Our server Paola was wonderful and very accommodating for two of us recovering from knee and hip surgery. Took home some cranberry scones and blueberry muffins which are outstanding. First things first we received great service from our waitress. She was very attentive and helpful in what should be ordered . The scenery was a little open and that gave me a slight bit of feeling "exposed" but the overall decor was nice and cozy. Now to the food....... I ordered biscuits and gravy with deviled eggs on the side and my wife ordered smothered omelette with a brown butter pecan pancake and apple toast. Staring with the biscuits and gravy; the gravy wasn't seasoned at all but i don't really expect a sausage gravy to be from a restaurant due to that being a kind of "season to taste" dish. I was able to season the gravy to my liking but i was then met with the biscuit.... When i say the biscuit was probably one of the worst I've had , that would also probably be an understatement. The consistency of the biscuit was thick dense and soft but the flavor gave an almost "tangy" aftertaste that even the seasoning of the gravy couldn't salvage. All in all I'd give that dish a 3/10. My wife let me taste the butter pecan pancake, I'm not much of a pecan person so I'm more so biased on it but the texture and consistency tasted more like a pecan muffin than it did pancake overall I'd give that a 5/10. All in all our experience with this place wasn't the best. Service was amazing but everything else just wasn't doing it for me so I'd be forced to give this place a big 3/10. This being a bakery, they offer eleven kinds of toast. I ordered "extra sides" so I could order two different kinds of toast. Meh one and meh two. They were also offering a seasonal special of a pumpkin whoopie pie with cream cheese filling. I must admit I am totally pumpkin whoopie pie with cream cheese filling curious. But later in the day, I would put on about seven pounds reviewing a really good Waxahachie cookie and coffee store. (The Dessert Spot near the Courthouse if you really want to know. Meggs Cafe is a breakfast and bakery. With a farm - table menu the food selection is excellent. Major props to the chef's that put this menu together. My wife had the "Pastrami Hash", I had the "Threedom of Choice". This selection allowed me to try one of their amazing hot cakes options. I chose the blueberry pancake and the brown butter pecan pancake. Both were heavenly. My wife's pastrami hash was a very unique combination. It came with brussels sprouts and two poached eggs although it was something she would not have chosen on her own. The combination was nothing short of fantastic. We received the best service from Jason. He was is quite knowledgeable of the menu and suggested some excellent menu choices. You must make it trip to Temple to try this amazing place. A few years ago, we ate at Megg's and it was amazing. The deviled eggs with bacon, the benedicts.. We aren't local so any trip we would make, we would try to time it so we could hit up Megg's. Well it's been a while since we've visited. The last time might have been 2019! Anyhow we had a vacation and we timed it to return to the memories we had of good food and unfortunately it's gone down hill since we last visited. We ordered the pastrami hash and the classic Benedict. We didn't get the deviled eggs bc the description didn't sound appetizing. It's just not as good as we remembered. What has happened to our favorite restaurant? The last two times we ate there, it wasn't up to their usual quality. They have salads on the menu with iceberg lettuce. However, when the food arrived it is not iceberg lettuce but some leafy, curly lettuce. My daughter couldn't finish her salad. The ranch dressing has also changed...not as tasty. I ordered a grilled chicken sandwich on a brioche bun. The bun was half the size it used to be. The chicken on my sandwich was 1/4 piece of chicken breast. It was grilled nicely but the entire lunch was a disappointment. The fruit salad that accompanied the sandwich was very good & fresh. We've loved buying our bread in the bakery. Met for lunch with two good friends today. I wanted to try something new, so I got the Asparagus salad with grilled shrimp for my protein. I know you said there was asparagus in the salad, but I only speared maybe 4 or 5 pieces. The rest of the salad was a spindly, stemmy, arugula pile which I had a hard time eating. Why serve such a stemmy salad? I have had excellent arugula salads before that were leafy and green without looking like green pickup sticks. This is the first time I have ever disputed a restaurant charge, not because of the price at all (it was only $1), but because I feel it's not ethical to be charged a price that is different from what's listed on the menu, and I think most would agree. The treatment I received was out of proportion to the issue and disrespectful. I asked about the "special cake," and the server said they didn't have one this week, but I could add blueberries, pecans, chocolate, etc. to the pancake. I was not informed there would be an additional charge, so it sounded like I would be charged the special cake price ($4.50), or perhaps the pecan pancake price ($4.95). I opted for the blueberry pancake. However, when I received the bill later, the receipt said it was $5.50. I asked about it, and the manager said that she was not sure why it's not written on the menu. I told her that I was not informed by the server about this additional charge, so she said she would talk to the server then just disappeared and never came back. I had to go approach inside later to finally get a response. I was told that I couldn't get the pancake "comped" because I had eaten it all (I was confused hearing this), but that was never my request. I had simply asked for the price to be adjusted to the price listed on the menu. The manager wrote the reason for the price adjustment as "disagreed" instead of "price incorrect." I did end up getting the $1 adjustment, but it took a very long time from the initial question. It is so disheartening to be treated like my request to be charged the price listed on the menu was unreasonable. It would have been totally fine had they admitted it was an honest mistake, but instead I was treated like I had the audacity to ask about this price discrepancy. Whether or not it is relevant, it does not escape me that I am a minority in a small town. read more

They have fresh squeezed orange juice on the menu so I had to start with that. The juice was definitely fresh! I could still taste the earthiness, which I loved! It's rare to get freshly squeezed juice at a cafe/diner. For breakfast, I got the biscuits and gravy Benedict, which is essentially eggs Benedict covered in a sausage gravy instead of hollandaise, and it also comes with potatoes. It was very good! I definitely enjoyed the gravy . I do wish there was a little more gravy, as I expected it be really smothered. But, it was still very good. Our server was nice and very attentive.
