Solid choice for breakfast. I wasn't disappointed after reading through other reviews. Very friendly staff who are also helpful if you're looking for recommendations. I ordered the Threedom of Choice with Scrambled Eggs, Jalapeno Bacon, and I subbed brown butter pecan pancakes for the regular pancakes. Food was good. Jalapeno Bacon was probably my favorite - it was crunchy, not too thick or thin, and had a nice Texas spice. I don't love eggs, so I always order them scrambled and they met expectations. Potatoes were coated in a crunchy, salt-and-spicy layer and they were cooked quite well. Not too greasy and plenty tender. The Pecan Pancakes were probably a touch too delicate for my taste as they just didn't hold together incredibly well and I like them to be a bit chewy, but they were tasty and sweet. I didn't have room for it all but I was happy with my choice. Lastly, the vibe of Megg's has a small town cafe feel, furnishings not overly nice, not worn down. I'm not giving it 5 stars only bc the food could've been served a bit hotter and the bottom of the table was a bit sticky. Attention to that type of detail would pull it into a 5-star range. It is the anniversary of when my son was hurt at his part time job and went into a comma n then life support. It was the day before his drivers test. Having a rough day and when server asked how I was doing I told him I didnt feel like saying fine and told him about my son. He brought out this strawberry rose. Simple gesture meant alot to me. Terrible experience. The food was mediocre at best, and they nickel-and-dime you for everything -- even basic things like salsa and whipped cream. My waffle was soggy and overpriced, and nothing had any real flavor. The worst part: I found a hair on my plate. It's a toss up! My go to is the Megg's original breakfast sandwich, it used to be $10.75 and is now $13.50. The sandwich is always delicious but the potatoes are either perfect or super hard, and without a doubt you will have a long wait for the food. Evan was our waiter. Very nice- very professional. Always a smile on his face and always ready with hot coffee for a refill! So the Banh Mi Sandwich that I ordered had protein options. You could get broiled chicken, fried chicken, a veggie patty, or pork belly. I felt the pork belly was likely the most traditional so that is what I ordered. I made it known that I cannot eat cilantro and Evan was conscientious to document that- as it was clearly an ingredient in the sandwich. The bread was absolutely fantastic, a small French loaf sliced in half with the fried pork belly and the pickled vegetables inside along with Vietnamese mayonnaise. My critique would be that the pork belly was extremely over done and tough and there were not enough pickled veggies to be a more traditional Banh Mi. The french fries were very crisp and had some kind of a salt and pepper coating to them. I had not had that style and thought they were very good! I don't usually get coffee but since I did not have enough in my morning cup prior to the train ride I ordered it. It was a great choice as it was a very delicious brew. My dining partner chose a "make your own" omelette because the menu was a little outside the box for him. He ordered a ham and cheese omelette and a large orange juice. It came with home fried potatoes and toast and Evan talked him into the cheese toast which he ended up liking!! He also ordered a large orange juice and was shocked when it came and was freshly squeezed. He offered me a sip, ... it was so good!!! His omelette was satisfactory and he enjoyed the cheese toast. By that time he was full so he did not eat his fried potatoes. I can tell you from tasting one that they were definitely home fries and nice and crispy and dark on one side. I would have chosen to season them a little more with salt and pepper but making them for the general population you probably cannot do that. Our Uber driver Rita had been very excited to bring us here as she said we were going to love it. It was one of the only places she has eaten personally in Temple and said it was one of the best. She recommended their deviled eggs so of course I had to try them. We ordered them as an appetizer. My dining partner ate 1/2 of one egg and said it just wasn't his style, of course he's very traditional in his food taste. I, on the other hand, thought they were delicious! They were topped with bacon jam a little bit of crispy bacon and whatever mixture they mixed with the yolk didn't taste traditional but I thought it was good-although a little dry. That is about it. We felt it was priced well for the quality of the food and the great service. PS-they have a bakery with a counter as you enter and exit the restaurant with some delectable looking baked goods, cookies, scones, breakfast pastries and a few different kinds of homemade bread including their incredible sourdough. I took a cranberry walnut scone home with me and can vouch for the fact it was absolutely delicious with coffee the next morning! We definitely will come here again when we are in temple and we recommend that you give it a try as well!!! read more

Ordered a chorizo omelette and when I was eating it, discovered there was no chorizo in it. When I mentioned that to the server she asked if I wanted them to remake it. It had taken so long to get it to begin with, that I declined. I did say I felt I shouldn't have to pay $16 for an omelette that was missing the main ingredient. She took my plate supposedly to show it to the manager. After a few minutes she brought the plate back and asked me if I still wanted it! Of course I said I didn't want it anymore. They took $2 dollars off the bill. For reference, the ice tea was $3. They should have removed the price of that item completely, since it was missing the main ingredient and specially since I didn't get to eat it because she took it away from the table. All in all, with the many choices of restaurants in that area, I don't see myself eating there again. read more

What a wonderful gem found in Temple. Randomly craved a nice omelet after attempting nasty hotel breakfast at the nearby holiday inn express. This place was quite a surprise. Big, nice decor and awesome service. Got the sweet potato hash, deviled eggs and this coconut pastry (had a macarons type feel to it with chocolate). We found Megg's while waiting for the solar eclipse, they were definitely a hotspot then but after dining there I can see that crowd is well earned. They've got a very big menu of options, which were all delicious and the service was super friendly. We really enjoyed the kids menu, which offered flexibility and many options for the varying palettes of our young ones. They were excited to be able to choose different things from their siblings. I really enjoyed the crab cakes, so well done and with an excellent sauce as well. Word of warning, the pancakes are... well... the size of pans! My mom and I decided to come here because I wanted to try it. My first thought about the cafe was that it has a cute concept for the layout. However, it was a 30-35 minute wait for a table for 2, it also took a while for our food to come out. I got the brioche French toast with fruit, when it came out to our table it was room temperature, but overall it was alright. My mother got the steak and eggs, but the steak came back without cooked properly, as in it was a bit too bloody and seemed to be only cooked on the grill on one side that it was hard to cut. read more

I had one of the Benedict entrees when I was there. I forgot to take a picture which is why I did not upload one. I will say the portion seemed rather small, but it filled me up and it was very tasty! I saw other dishes coming out of the kitchen which seemed to be of bigger portions. I won't complain because the price was not overwhelming at all in my opinion and the staff members were very friendly and knowledgeable of their menu items. There were also little cards at the table that had random questions and facts that we thought were a really nice touch. Spent $66 this morning. It was not worth it! Decided to have a breakfast date this morning and try Megg's Cafe. 25 minute wait but no big deal. Asked for pancakes instead of toast and only got one pancake that was suppose to be buttermilk but was more like water. It was disgusting. My potatoes were over cooked and quite frankly uneatable. My waffles were tasty and so were the omelette. The Megg's famous egg Benedict was ok. It truly just needed seasoning. Never have I ever spent that much on breakfast. Megg's is a classic spot for a good meal in Temple! I have been here countless times and have yet to have a bad experience. My friend & I went a few weeks ago for brunch, and we both ordered the sweet potato hash, which came with sunny side up eggs, chicken sausage, fall greens, hatch peppers, apple, cauliflower, and toast. It was so fresh and actually a ton of food! I really liked the sweet potatoes in there. I also tried their hand squeezed OJ, which was a 10/10. A few of the other dishes I really like at Megg's are the Belgian waffle for breakfast (with a side of extra crispy bacon!) and the southwest chopped salad for lunch - the BBQ pork belly in there is so tasty. read more

This is one of my family's favorite places. We have varying tastes all of which are satisfied at Meg's. Grandma (me), down to the youngest or pickiest grandchild. As a group, we order plenty of roasted beets and extra sautéed (roasted?) Brussel sprouts. Usually ordering more if especially hungry. The adults like the unusual meat selection. We feel that Meg's meats are safer and healthier than most restaurants. Others in our large family love the vegetarian options. I like their breakfasts, too. Yum!! Be sure to stop by the in-house bakery on your way out. So many delicious, homemade breads. lol if I buy the bread on my way in, I might eat it all before ordering my meal. Parking is easy on Monday morning. Menu looks awesome. Entrance is on the left side of the restaurant when facing the building from a Everton Dr. We ordered our food. Mom had scrambled eggs and bacon with toast. I had the oatmeal which was rolled oats. The bowl had brown sugar and pecans in it as well as dried fruit. The oats were kinda warm. I ate it, but I wasn't blown away. The coffee was also kinda weak. Service was good, and it's a really cute restaurant in a great location just up the road from Baylor Scott & White Hospital.
