They were really busy but we only had a 20 minute wait. They have a regular menu with lots to choose from. Traditional Café Menu. We chose the All You Can Buffet. Lots to choose from. Pork Chop with Dressing, Fried Catfish, Fried Chicken, Hamburger Steak, Chicken Fried Steak, General Sou Chicken. Mashed Potatoes, Green Beans, Squash, Okra Gumbo, Brussels Sprouts, Butter Beans, Macaroni and Cheese, Candied Yams, Mixed Vegetables, and 3 types of Gravy. Rolls, Cornbread, and Biscuits. Full Salad Bar and Deserts with Soft Serve Ice Cream! I'm not sure if I got everything that was available. Food was good. Will come back and try the Breakfast Buffet. read more

While returning from a trip to North Texas, we were hungry and pulled off into the town of McGregor and stumbled upon the Coffee Shop Café. Perfect! A simple little country café was just what I wanted. What we did not know was how popular this place was. Judging by the crowd inside and the pictures of all the famous people on the wall, the Coffee Shop Café appeared to have a very long and interesting history. We were promptly seated and after looking over a delicious menu, my wife went with the Philly Cheese steak omelet and I chose the Coffee Shop Special of two eggs, pancakes and sausage. Service was prompt and friendly but it was obvious that the café caters to a large local customer base that probably eat here several times a week. Our meals were hot and absolutely delicious and the price was ever so reasonable. I am no complaints other than the Coffee Shope Café is not located locally to me. Next time we are traveling up towards McGregor, we will definitely be stopping in this great café for another meal read more

Excellent breakfast and friendly staff, what else could you want? This is an easy drive from Blue Hills Ranch, and we loved the old school vibe inside. The chairs were incredibly comfortably for being an older style. I didn't expect that fun surprise, but definitely the most comfortable cafe seats I've enjoyed. The Texas shaped waffle was a hit, and the side of sausage patties had great flavor. The coffee was good, and they had a few different flavors of creamer, so that's all I needed. Their t-shirts are great, "We serve Jesus and pie." Gotta love it! read more

Called in an order to go. Ready when we arrived. Chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes and gravy, greens, and a side order of onion rings. Chocolate silk pie for dessert. We split this. The meat and potatoes were solid. I thought the greens were gross in an overcooked, under seasoned, mushy way, but hubs liked them okay. Was there supposed to be a roll? Did the onion rings come with ketchup or ranch or anything? We don't keep that stuff at home, but they were not included. (We) Should have asked. The pie- the part they are famous for- tasted horribly stale/freezer burnt. It even had an unfortunate smell to it. Specifically the whipped cream. Maybe they need to clean out the case? I don't know, but we did not eat past one bite, and we would never order that again. We were looking for comfort food. Parts were really good and parts were really not. read more

We are fans of the local Texas tv show Daytripper and saw this there last week. We always like to go on road trips so we headed there. Well I grew up in a very small town in Oklahoma but lived in Houston for over 20 years so I consider myself foodie type with my roots being country food. We both tried the buffet which is a main feature here. We sampled probably around 10 different items from the buffet - fried catfish, chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes w cream gravy, mustard or turnip greens/spinach, pinto beans and unique item wing type roll. This item is chicken filled with cheese and jalapenos and bacon wrapped. Corn bread and rolls were served to the table. Everything was good with the standouts for us being - wing item (called Wild West Wings I think), cornbread, catfish and black eyed peas. For dessert we both ordered each a slice of lemon icebox pie and buttermilk pie. Both were outstanding and the crust old fashioned and home made. read more

Just traveling through and we loved the buffet! We normally order only from the menu at other places, but theirs looked so fresh with many choices of meats and sides - we couldn't pass it up. Every single dish was delicious - we had chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes, green beans, fried okra, pinto beans, fresh rolls and cornbread and great tea. There were so many other wonderful looking options as well. With two iced teas, our bill for two was only $26. So affordable for the servings and quality. The service was perfect too. They offer both a full menu and a buffet option; I went with the menu both times. Service was friendly and at the right pace. For breakfast I ordered the Coffee Shop Special, which comes with a giant pancake, eggs, hashbrowns, and either bacon or sausage. All was good, your typical diner-type breakfast. For dinner I ordered the chicken fried chicken with mashed potatoes and fried okra - also very good, chicken was juicy and not too heavily breaded. I ate there about a year ago and the food was great and I was there a week ago and the food and service was amazing still a great place to dine. We decided to drive out to McGregor for lunch today. We found this Café & it was cute. As we walked in, my hubby asked a couple walking out , "how is the food?" They replied "pretty good" & then they told us that President George W. Had eaten there in past. We were intrigued and proceeded to enter. Upon walking in, we saw many great signs on the walls & pictures too! We sat down & it was pretty clean & full of Seniors (which is usually a sign of good food, lol). I ordered a pecan pancake with 1/2 ham & 1/2 bacon & hash browns. My hubby got a great burger with caramelized onions & horseradish sauce with French fries. The bacon was my least favorite because it was very greasy tasting. The pancake didn't have much flavor but it was fluffy. Hubby's burger was very good & fries were tasty. All in all, it was a very Texas experience! I'm not sure we will be driving back there because it wasn't anything to write home about, for all of the great reviews that I saw? New to Texas, my wife and I decided to drive 3+ hours to Granbury, TX to pick up a rustic American flag we ordered rather than have it shipped. We left early trying to avoid Austin traffic to no avail. We chose to drive through McGregor and Crawford, TX hoping to catch a glimpse of Pres. Bush's ranch in Crawford...man, what a small town that was...you blink and you've passed the town. Anyway, in checking out Yelp, it looked like the only viable breakfast options close to Crawford would be in McGregor and The Coffee Shop seemed like the place for breakfast. Sure enough, this place appeared to be the place for breakfast for miles around. Stepping into the place, it became readily apparent that this place's heyday coincided with the time its famous neighbor, i.e. President George W. Bush, was in the Oval Office. Indeed, there were news articles written about how this was a "happening" place with news media, Secret Service, security details and even the president and First Lady either eating here or having breakfast catered at the ranch. The place wasn't packed when we got there just after 9:00 AM on a Wednesday morning. We were seated promptly and ordered and received coffee and water in no time. We then both ordered the Coffee Shop Special which comes with two eggs, pancake, hashbrowns, and three pieces of bacon. Breakfast was good and service was equally good, as we never had to see the bottom of our coffee cups nor our water glasses. This place is nothing fancy but served good breakfast at a decent value. I've been hearing about Coffee Shop Cafe's pies for few years and had to try it on the way to Austin yesterday. Little detour I didn't mind for good food. I and my aunt had a southern style buffet that I haven't had for a long time, loved their cooked veggies, fried chicken and beef with creamy gravy. I had two servings and I was too full to eat further. Then there came my thick chocolate pie, and I was pretty impressed with its richness and the taste. It might not look so sophisticated but tasted heaven, just the way I like my chocolate mousse and pies. Wish I could go back once more before I return home but perhaps till next time. I would definitely go back and try other food and pies.
