Great customer service, everyone greeted us with a smile and the restaurant is really decorated nice. There is a wonderful outside seating area that I can't wait to go back and enjoy, the inside is just as nice. Let's talk about this BBQ, I do BBQ reviews and this was my top spot of the week. I look for a great bark and this place had it, plus it's perfectly seasoned. The brisket was moist and tender, the ribs had a bit of sweetness but not overpowering and they came right off the bone! The jalapeno sausage is also balanced perfectly so it wasn't too hot and they don't use cheddar cheese which was a nice surprise. A MUST TRY! read more

The food was great! The pork ribs were divine! They have this like sweet glaze on them that's perfectly seasoned and while I used the sauce, I didn't really need it! The Mac and cheese was really good, and my banana pudding was too! When we entered, one of the employees met us at the sign and we informed him that it was our first time there. From that point on, he told us how the line worked. When I was leaving with my kid in the stroller and food in hand, another employee offered to help me out the door! Everyone was really nice and attentive! I really loved the aesthetic! There were smokers outside where you could see where they cooked the meat in real time! Had to check this place out. We weren't disappointed. You start out in the line and hit the sides first. Lots to choose from. I had the green beans (really good) and the pinto beans with brisket. My wife had the green beans and a cornbread muffin. They offer bread, butter, pickles and onions at this station at no charge. Then you head to the "meat!" I had the smoked turkey and a in-house smoked sausage. My wife had a smaller portion of smoked turkey and a couple slices of brisket. All really tasty and filling. The dining area is large with a section that appears to be held for large parties, etc. One of the most interesting parts was the outdoor smokehouse as you walk in/out. See pics! If you're not familiar with Terry Black's, it's a chain out of Lockhart, TX and it's known for having good BBQ. And it, generally speaking, it does. However, today I decided to go all out and treat myself to one of the beef ribs. Beef ribs are monstrous, full of fat and are the best of the best of Central Texas BBQ. Or, at least, they normally are. When one buys a beef rib, it's understood you're paying for the bone and some other inedible things. But it's typically worth it because all of the fat renders into the beef and it's so incredibly good. And, at $37.99 per lb and an average of 2 lbs, it better be. Unfortunately, this once-in-a-blue-moon treat was anything but. It's like they didn't trim this at all. There was a thick silverskin-like membrane than ran the length of the rib about halfway through. Above it was nothing but fat and because of the membrane, none of that fat was rendered into the meat. The meat, what there was of it, was not quite as good as their brisket. Basically, I paid around $80 for a bone, a bunch of fat, some tough membrane and a few ounces of beef that wasn't as good as regular brisket. Complete disappointment. read more

My son and I did a BBQ road trip through Dallas, Ft Worth, Waco, Austin, Lockhart, and Houston, and I'll admit that Terry Black's was the only place I ordered a Dino rib. It was amazing, of course, but the unexpected standout here was the turkey! I was focused solely on meats when my son ordered turkey and insisted that I try it. It may have changed my life. It was the juiciest, most flavorful, mouth watering turkey I've ever had, and maybe the first time I've actually enjoyed turkey. Truly the best BBQ!! I can never stop thinking about it. I have no notes. The brisket melts in your mouth and the flavor is incredible. The turkey is the best I've ever had. And the sides? Really cool spot in Waco. I highly recommend the ribs, I think they were tastiest part of my plate. The way you order is pretty unique, as you go through a line to get your sides and then go straight to the meat counter where you can ask for custom amounts of whatever meat they have. I opted to try a little of everything since I was from out of town. The vibe was perfectly executed for a Texas BBQ spot. Ordered beef rib, it was 60% fat and almost inedible. A waste of $54 for one rib! Certainly not worth the hoopla and sadly a significant difference from other reviews. For reference, I have been ordering beef ribs wherever I could find them across the country (including, of course, Austin) and this was the least satisfactory. read more

Great barbecue and a great set up for serving. We went after the lunch rush and were able to take our time choosing. Highlights for me were the beef ribs, brisket, and pintos--all delicious. Also. Had turkey, which was excellent (it's a challenge to keep it moist) Service was great and we were able to tour the smoker area and find out how they do such a great job with bbq. Terry Black's BBQ is located close to the Dr. Pepper Museum so we wanted to try it out. The restaurant has a reasonable selection of sides such as macaroni, green beans, rice, corn, and potato salad. For dessert they had peach cobbler and mini pecan pies. I liked at the side/dessert station they had the onion and pickles available for you. As for meat they have beef and pork ribs, regular and jalapeño and cheddar sausage, brisket, chicken and turkey. We ordered potato salad, sliced brisket and regular sausage with drinks. They have bbq sauce regular, sweet and spicy are at the table. At the drink station they have bread, plates and utensils there for you. The place is crowded so you have to try your best to find a table. We were able to sit at a table for 8 with a family of 3. Then they opened the party room. As we enjoyed our meal I will say the customer service was amazing when we ordered our food and let us know about the drink station and bbq sauce location. The brisket was tender and I was surprised that the spicy sauce wasn't as spicy as I thought. To be honest I was hoping the brisket had more flavor so I wouldn't have to use bbq sauce. However I enjoyed the sauces to use with my meal. The potato salad was pretty good. It did have more pickle than my husband is used to but I enjoyed it. This place is very popular and I can see why. Sooo good! The restaurant is inviting, clean, fun & very large. The brisket was delicious. The 3 sides we got were amazing! Loved the beans & Mac & cheese esp! Everyone was friendly. Inside seemed like a great place to sit but the weather was so nice it was in mid 70's on Dec 23rd so we decided to sit outside & so glad we did. The string lights & the picnic tables were perfect. We enjoyed our food & stayed prob another 30-45 mins just hanging out. The tables all have sauces, napkins, etc. there are to go containers and bags all around. Thought it was a quiet Monday night but Terry Blacks still had a good crowd on Monday after school was out. This was my first experience at Terry Blacks and have always heard good things. I am partial to Hard 8 and really enjoy their BBQ. Well I think Terry Blacks may edge them out. I went with Pork Ribs and a Brisket sandwich to get a variety and had the green beans with coleslaw for sides. I'll start with the sides. They really paid great attention to the sides. The green beans were some of the best I've had. They were cooked perfectly with onions and what seemed like a hint of vinegar was soo good. The coleslaw was not far behind. It had a blend of sweet and acid that was good on its own but went even better on the brisket sandwich. Now for the Q. The brisket was amazing and they slice it to how you want it, chopped/sliced/lean or a little fat. It was so moist with the perfect amount of smoke. As good as the brisket was the ribs were the star. They were fall off the bone tender, great smoke and seasoning. BBQ sauce is available to your taste, it is good enuf to skip the sauce. Excellent BBQ.
