I have been going to the Stagecoach Inn Restaurant since the 1970's when I was a college student. I've tried to be a loyal customer since I returned to Texas 34 years ago, but the restaurant has never returned to its glory days. This is my second visit since the restaurant's most recent ownership change. Had Sunday brunch first visit. One of my friends doesn't eat eggs and asked if she could have a menu item that included eggs, a meat and breakfast potatoes. She asked if the eggs could be left off. She was told NO, so she then just ordered a bread and coffee. I don't understand the waitress response because we weren't asking to deduct the cost of the eggs! She just doesn't eat eggs! Turns out they were out of breakfast potatoes and wanted to bring us french fries instead. We declined. Really.....nothing special about this breakfast and very expensive and disappointing service. The only positive was the restaurant looks nice. Decided to give the restaurant another chance and went for lunch. Had soup and salad. I really only wanted a cup of soup, but that was not possible. Had a very good strawberry and watermelon salad and a giant bowl of corn bisque swimming in oil on top. Very unpalatable. Told the waitress and all I was offered was that they would tell the chef. The salad was $16 and the soup was uneaten and cost me $14! They did bring me the standard Stagecoach hush puppies before my meal and they were delicious! When I had heard the restaurant would be managed by the owners of Monument Cafe I was so excited. I love Monument, but this restaurant is too expensive for the poor quality of food. I would love to have the menu at Monument at this restaurant. The only positive is that the remodel of the restaurant is lovely in appearance. I wouldn't mind the prices if the food was delicious and it was not. I won't return nor will I recommend to my friends. Very disappointing. read more

Where to start. We were visiting Salado for the day and made reservations at Stagecoach Restaurant because the menu looked great. Unfortunately, the experience didn't match. We arrived early and waited a few minutes before being greeted. The host seemed visibly upset, which was a bit awkward. After being seated, we waited about 20 minutes before our server, Paityn, came over and asked if anyone had helped us yet -- we told her no. She apologized and mentioned there was confusion in the kitchen during a shift change, which we understood and were patient about. The deviled eggs were good -- honestly the highlight of the meal. After that, it went downhill. The Brussels sprouts were chewy and inedible. The side salad was fine, and the carrots were good. My husband and I both ordered ribeyes. Mine was supposed to be a 14 oz cooked medium, but it was clearly not 14 oz -- most of it was thin and overcooked to well done, while the remaining portion was completely raw. I couldn't finish it. It was a terrible steak. The mac and cheese looked promising but was mediocre in flavor and came out so hot it burned my tongue. Service was just as disappointing. After dropping off the food, our server never came back to check on us, refill water, or ask how anything was. When the bill came (around $150), I politely shared the issues and suggested relaying them to the chef. Instead of addressing it, I was told, "I wish you would have said something sooner." My friend and I were looking forward to a good lunch but we were very disappointed last Thursday. My red snapper wasovercooked and rubbery. My second order of chicken pillars fajitas was overly spiced and the black beans were under cooked. The waitress refused to switch grits for mashed potatoes so my friend did not get what she originally wanted as well. This restaurant used to be excellent but terrible now. From the moment you walk into this historic landmark building, you can feel the charm and character of Texas history all around you. The food was fabulous, thoughtfully prepared, flavorful, and served with care. Every bite reflected quality and tradition. And the service? Outstanding. Our waitress, Paityn S., was a young woman of many talents, attentive, knowledgeable, gracious, and effortlessly professional. She truly elevated our entire dining experience. We had family visiting from Germany and did not want them to look at that the whole meal. I had heard it had improved but wont be back . I saw the Stagecoach is under new ownership and freshly renovated. Back in the day, we went there regularly until it went downhill. So we were very happy yesterday at lunch to experience excellent food, superb service and beautiful decor. Abigail was our server and she made our experience enjoyable. My wife loved her pork chop and I loved my catfish. Our friends loved their food too, the catfish plate and the steak sandwich. We especially enjoyed the goat cheese dip appetizer and the hushpuppies w amazing honey butter. The Stagecoach is back! We'll return again soon. read more

Service was fantastic! Bartender and server were both friendly and attentive! Fries are tasty and savory! Patty melt was different with the addition of the sauce. The onions are cut very thick. Meat was cooked perfect and tender just didn't care for the Texas toast bread and the sauce. Love my traditional sour dough bread patty melts so it had a different flavor profile but it's always good to try something new! The ambiance of the restaurant is very nice. Allergic to corn but my mom said the hush puppies were good. Had a margarita and asked for it to be made with Mezcal and tajin and the drink was fantastic! It was a crazy travel day at Austin airport so it was a good day did a drink! We walked from our room. Beautiful location all the way around the restaurant and hotel. read more

The place really has good food and atmosphere. The issue is their policy to not make ANY changes to "signature" dishes. I understand them wanting to maintain a certain consistent standard. That is actually to be complimented. The problem comes when someone has a DOCUMENTED FOOD ALLERGY. Their refusal to simply not add a sauce to a sandwich is RIDICULOUS!!!! I am actually SAVING them product costs by not adding it. I am highly allergic to the base of one of the "signature" sauces. All I asked was to not put the sauce on the sandwich. That is LITERALLY all I asked. When they insisted on the sauce to accompany the sandwich, I said fine, give it to me on the side not on the sandwich. They REFUSED to do so. Keep in mind when eating here...they ONLY care about their "so called" reputation of their signature dishes rather than the health of their customers. It was a bad start to a day that was supposed to be celebrated; my Son was graduating High School. SIMPLY PUT!!!! ANY business that thinks the taste of their food overrides the health and experiences of the customer is NOT a place I can NO LONGER endorse. More was wrong than right during our visit. We were seated at a dirty table that had clearly not been cleaned, and instead of wiping it down, the server placed menus and silverware right on top of the mess. The same thing later happened to another family across from us. Food and service were equally disappointing. A fried green tomato BLT came out without bacon, menu items couldn't be substituted because "that's just how they make it," and my wife was told they couldn't make a salad without tomatoes. The Wagyu chicken fried steak was burnt and greasy, and the sweet potato fries looked like the leftover crumbs from the bottom of the batch. I ordered a draft beer that took over 20 minutes, and eventually the waitress had to pour it herself after forgetting about it. Service was inattentive the entire meal to the point we had to go find someone just to pay. To top it off, the manager seemed annoyed and uninterested when we politely shared our concerns. Had lunch today at the Stagecoach Restaurant. We had a large group and the restaurant wasn't very crowded on a Wednesday at 11:30-1:00. The server did an excellent job of managing a large group with separate checks! The remodelling (had not seen it prior) was well done--it was fresh and clean. The large windows with all of the trees and vegetation outside provides a super nice cool vibe in the Texas summer. The menu had a good selection and combination of soups, salads, sandwiches, burgers, entrees. Our group had burgers, salads, chicken fried chicken, turkey clubs, etc. The presentations were nice. The burgers were HUGE. I had a fried chicken garden salad. Unfortunately the salad was just ok. If you find yourself in the area, it is definitely a good place to stop. Excellent experience in the redone Stagecoach. It's nice, upscale but casual at the same time. Open floor plan makes the bar area very inviting and dining family comfortable. They have draft beers from Nolan Creek Brewery, and the atmosphere is just comfortable. The menu is printed daily and features southern comfort staples and has a nice variety of apps, sandwiches, salads, entrees and pasta dishes. Next time you're in Salado, give them a shot! read more

I would give zero stars if I could. Sevice was nonexistent until I stood up and got someone. I can't review the food. We didn't get any. We were the only two customers in this huge building sitting there waiting and waiting while a group of five young waitresses stood around talkin. I finally got up and said "Sorry for interrupting your conversation but can we get some service". The excuse was they didn't know whose turn it was! Next I ordered an appetizer but they didn't have any more. So I ordered a sandwich and asked to have mayo on it instead of jalapeño thousand island dressing. But they won't do substitution. On Mondays and Tuesdays they are not open for breakfast. They do open for coffee and coffee cake and a few other pastries. Don't get me wrong- their pastry chef makes delicious stuff. The hushpuppies are a standout, but the rest of the menu holds its own. The staff, mostly respectful young locals, make the experience even better. The operator specializes in boutique heritage hotels and restaurants, and it shows. As more choices like this pop up, I think we'll finally see the end of the "only game in town" mindset -- with its all-too-common arrogance, bad service, and unpredictable hours. We had lunch here last Sunday and it was absolutely horrendous. This is the second time we have gone here and we will never come again. The menu that they gave us was extremely limited. Had zero fish options. We ordered only to be told that they were out of almost half the menu. This wasn't even late in their day so then we opted for tomato soups on the table and we're told 30 minutes later when the food should've been coming out that they didn't even have that I ended up with nothing but hush puppies and they were over fried and stale. We ordered two cocktails at the table both which were almost undrinkable. We didn't say anything, but they removed them from the ticket. They did charge us for three meals for food that came out that was not good. I felt really bad for our waitress because the kitchen and the management put the waiters in a bad position but they also should've been very forthcoming at the host station coming in. They didn't have hardly anything to eat and that the menu was so limited it was pathetic and they refused to let you order off the other menu one lady that came to a table to bring something was extremely hateful to other ones that came to a table were trying to be apologetic and kind. This was one of the worst experiences going to eat, especially at a place that isn't the cheapest of all in a couple of years. They definitely need new management in general in kitchen management. We were told by an employee that this is a common occurrence- the running out of things on the menu. Their old-fashioned tastes like water and was not even made properly. read more

Food and service were good. Catfish was really good - lightly breaded and crispy outside, tender inside. Club sandwich was ok - had no mayo (or not enough to taste), had shredded cheese which fell out, and bread was great but almost too thick to get your mouth around to take a bite. Minimalist decoration, tables and chairs so looks pristine and pleasant. However, it was too cold to be comfy. Guess they keep a/c pumped up to compensate for heat drifting into dining area from kitchen. Regardless, it was just too cold (and I'm hormonal so normally hot). Also, there's nothing to absorb the noise from other diner's conversations, servers and kitchen. The din is deafening and makes it difficult to converse with others at my table. we hadn't been there since the remodel and the new menu as we moved to north Texas. while expecting some upgrades, it did not resemble the cozy "olden days" restaurant of the past in the least! The remodel of the building nor the menu resembled anything of the past! My favorite Strawberry kiss wasn't remotely close to the original and let's not talk about the hush puppies! So disappointing. It has been turned into an "upper crust" destination with all the ambiance and good simple foods Nowhere to be found. They've completely lost the plot with this "new and improved" restaurant. We went to the stagecoach for breakfast today. They have a very limited menu, but we were OK with that. My husband ordered the stagecoach, but it came with pancakes and he asked if he could get toast instead of pancakes and we were no. We finally asked for the manager to see why we could not substitute an item. We had no problem paying for a substitution, but that wasn't even offered. After discussion with the manager, he said OK we can substitute that for you. We did feel like we were bothering him. I ordered the avocado toast. The toast was more like Melba toast. It was so hard, but the flavor was good. Our waitress was very nice and apologetic, it did appear that she had not been there very long because she was unsure of things that we asked her. Not a problem everybody has to start somewhere, but training would be a good suggestion for new hires. All in all, we probably won't go back until some things change at that restaurant. read more

We had the Reuben sandwich and fries which was full of flavor and the perfect size, and the seafood ravioli. We visited Salado during the Highland Festival in November and decided to grab lunch in town. After checking a few nearby spots with long wait times and warm indoor temps, we walked into Stagecoach and were immediately relieved. The wait was minimal, and we were able to sit at the bar with no wait at all. The bartender was friendly and welcoming, which set a nice tone for the meal. We ordered the Stagecoach Salad with chicken and a grilled cheese sandwich perfect choices for a hot day when we wanted something light and refreshing. The food itself was average, but enjoyable enough for what we were looking for at the time. The highlight for me was the decor: bright, airy, and clean with an upscale Southern feel that makes the space really inviting. All the employees were friendly, contributing to an overall pleasant experience. I definitely plan to come back and try more of their menu when it's not as busy so I can give a more in-depth review. If I could give this restaurant zero stars I would. The meal I got was one of the worst things I had ever tasted. Their beef stroganoff. It was basically milk noodles with tough meat. Completely inedible. I politely sent it back which I never ever do. Only for the chef/manager to come to my table & be super confrontational & rude. I never in my life have been talked to or treated that way in a restaurant. Not to mention they serve frozen onion rings & heat up their quiche in a microwave. Waffle over cooked, hollandaise sauce literally curdled.. the grits were not fresh seemed microwaved, tasted like paste. If you don't put your food order in by 10:30 AM you're outta luck. Yep 10:30 because they close for an hour to transition for lunch... ummm what? Crazy. They always run out of the pork chop one of their specialities for dinner. Staff is nice but they seem as frustrated with the kitchen as customers. I can't believe we even paid $48 for our meal today and manager was returning items to the kitchen for us. Our server Austin was absolutely the best, we felt so bad for him because none of it was his fault. I just don't know why they can't get it right here in Salado. Whoever owns and runs this place FIX IT!! As residents here we are begging for a decent breakfast & dinner place. The bartenders are pretty good, the restaurant is clean and cute.
