We are have a celebratory dinner for something special for my husband. Of course we came to Olaf's. We had appetizer of smoked salmon, entrees of lamb chops and cakes cakes. Always excellent. I also had a jalapeño margarita it was perfect.

Great Shopping and dinner while in Clifton Texas town. Would recommend reservations. Menu changes and has options for all tastes. We shared a filet and salad. So good we dug in before I took a photo. Steak cooked to order and delicious. Salad was the perfect side cold crisp and light. We enjoyed that our # triathlon - eating drinking shopping could be done under one roof. A quick trip from Dallas will come back.

I've never waited this long to eat a mediocre dinner and paid so much. Ever. We arrived and they couldn't find our reservation but could seat us promptly so no big deal. We ordered the shrimp cocktail, meatballs and flatbread for appetizers. The meatballs were really tender and the sauce was great. Nothing special about the shrimp cocktail and the flatbread was similar to those I've ordered through a drive thru sandwich shop. We had the blueberry mojito and jalapeño margarita and both were really good. All the appetizers and drinks came out in a timely manner and then it was as if we were forgotten. Which makes sense considering the seating made us look more like we were part of the antiques and gifts for sale rather than seating designed for an actual restaurant. It appears maybe an attempt to extend the number of folks that may be seated, they have begun to use the dealer booths as, well eating booths. The waiters were apologetic with a few excuses like, "someone took your food" and "we aren't sure why it's taking so long" which none seemed to be reassuring that we were going to receive our main courses anytime soon. We waited for our entrees for over an hour and a half. The food was room temperature and tough. Our bill was around $250. If you are visiting Clifton, Texas and you happen to experience the same visit we did, I want to reassure you that this is not the Texan way. We do not make people wait extended periods of time without knowing when to expect their meal and we do not provide lame excuses when it's not ready. We make it right. We offer more appetizers, drinks, a discount maybe even for waiting a ridiculous amount of time. Even the waiters had a hard time not laughing along with us when we became hysterical over the whole ordeal. Save your money. There may not be many eating options in this small town, but you will have better luck finding a local who will treat you right and give you a quick, warm meal. And if you don't, message me and I'll help you find someone else who will.

The RCW is a business that I have passed probably dozens of times in my travels across Texas. Every time I think to stop in, it's been closed but limited hours are the standard for family owned wineries, so no big deal. However, on the trip through today my fiancée and I made the time to ensure it would be open, and indeed it was! After visiting, we really wish it wasn't. The RCW wasn't very busy when we arrived, indeed the only customers present during our visit was a pair of, presumably, locals, another woman with her children, who were very well behaved, and a man that I'm going to refer to as Umbo: The Clifton Giant, who sat at the edge of the bar and seemed to be keeping on eye on everyone present. The woman on staff, who did not introduce herself, seemed to be the only one working this afternoon. We entered and meandered around the small shop section before she haphazardly waved us over, as if visitors and customers were a confusing novelty for her to encounter. Upon taking a seat at the bar, the bartender took a while to get to us, the only customers (at that time) in the place; not mentioning Umbo: The Clifton Giant. We got a tasting of 6 wines and 5 of their distilled spirits. I'll save you the time now, but the spirits aren't worth it. However, given this is a winery, I think that's fair. Our bartender never bothered to tell us anything about their wines. I mentioned how excited we were to try out the place and I might as well have started speaking Klingon because they clearly didn't care at all. At no point were we told a damned thing about the wines, the winery, or anything. Just "here, pick 6 wines." So, we did. In order to try the wines, the wines must first be poured into a glass. Our bartender frequently took longer than 5 minutes (once 7 minutes and 45 seconds that I timed towards the end) to pour the next wine. During that time, she spent it chatting up the locals and engaging in hushed conversation with the aforementioned resident giant. Not that the wines are anything to write home about. Of course, this could be our fault as I guess we pick the wines. However, at least two of the wines had already oxidized and turned to vinegar. They were borderline undrinkable. The wines that weren't vinegar were either just okay or, as our bartender told us, several times, were the "cheap wines" that we could buy for even cheaper "at the grocery store." So, lots of confidence there. Now let's discuss the giant in the room, Umbo. I don't know his name. Maybe he's super friendly, I don't know, but I do know that his consistent presence and observation skills (mixed with his muffled laughter and hushed conversations) made it super uncomfortable to be there. He's just sitting there, sipping on a Dr. Pepper, occasionally staring at us. I have no idea what his presence was for. Husband? Brother? Boyfriend? Security? No idea. But we wanted out of there after a while. Paying was fine. I saw some other reviews complaining about the cost. I thought the $15 for a tasting of 6 wines and $10 for the 5 spirits was more than fair. We also liked the place itself. It looked nice and seemed comfy. My fiancée and I have been to many wineries over lots of places. The RCW may have taken the cake for "winery that we could not wait to leave." It was a genuinely terrible experience. Sour wine, terrible service, and Paul Bunyon's younger brother would probably sum up the experience as a whole. I am connected to a few wine groups in Houston, who I have been with for many years now, who are always looking for new places and stops. I've already let them know to go ahead and pass the RCW on by. I would recommend anyone else to do the same. Unless you're looking for vinegar. In which case, you've found the right place.

They always have such good chefs and their setups are always nice. I appreciate the staffing and the attention to detail they always provide. Incredible evenings and fantastic food. Always a treat and a core memory. I've ate at so several Michelin star restaurants and had pairing. Albeit not always at the same caliber, as something like Alinea. It is hands down the best, and that is not even including the pricing. It's an absolute steal. And nothing in comparison for the area of central Texas. What Valley Mills Vineyards has cultivated goes far beyond the bottle. It is, in the truest sense, a living experience: one where the terroir of genuine human connection is as carefully tended as the vines themselves. In a world increasingly defined by transactional encounters and manufactured hospitality, Valley Mills stands as a quiet and remarkable exception, a space where passion is not performed but practiced, where knowledge is not gatekept but generously shared, and where every visit feels less like a transaction and more like a homecoming. I have raised a glass in some of the most celebrated rooms in the country, and yet it is here, in the heart of central Texas, that I find myself most genuinely moved, not by spectacle, but by sincerity. That is the rarest vintage of all.

Presentation of the dishes was attractive and thoughtful, and we were pleased with our wine selections. We started by sharing the poblano corn chowder. Unfortunately, the dominant impression was salt. The soup was more of a brown, creamy sauce with chicken and corn than the aromatic, herb-forward poblano chowder I was expecting. Beyond the saltiness, there wasn't much depth or complexity of flavor. For entrées, we ordered the steak and the ahi tuna tomahawk. Both were visually impressive, but once again the overwhelming characteristic was salt. The tuna may have had a hint of tarragon, but it was difficult to appreciate much else. The steak was exceedingly salty--surprisingly so, even for someone who is not shy about using salt. Service was courteous but somewhat inattentive and slower than expected. At this price point, I would have hoped for more attentive service and a broader range of flavors rather than repeated assaults on the sodium receptors. One final curiosity: water was served in what appeared to be small jelly jars, which felt a bit odd given the otherwise upscale presentation. Overall, Blaine's gets good marks for ambiance, presentation, wine, and especially the live music. Unfortunately, the kitchen's heavy-handed use of salt overshadowed much of the meal. With more restraint in seasoning and a bit more attention to service, this could be an exceptional dining experience.
