Came in to try this place and I was shocked at the prices, especially the steak. It's $26 just for thinking about having a steak, and then you have to pay an additional $5-$6 per oz, depending on the cut of meat. So a 12 oz ribeye will cost you $98. I would understand this at a 5-star restaurant, but this isn't that. Having said that, I can get a 40 oz tomahawk at Ruth's Chris for $146. Visit at your own risk. read more

Ok. I should had looked at the menu. My friend ordered shrimp tacos and I said ditto. When the bill came I was like what ? 45$ a plate. Yikes. Total bill with one beer and one wine. And tip. 150$. Due to its remote location, sit-down dining options are limited, so we've been here many times. Unfortunately, good service is a surprise. You pay nearly top dollar for inconsistent food and generally terrible service. As someone with years of experience in the service industry, I find it frustrating to see so many consistent issues. There might not be anyone to greet you when you walk in, and it's common for servers to disappear before and after bringing your food. On our last visit, the hostess spent most of the time at the bar with friends, and a group of servers stood around at the end of the bar. During a previous visit, our server disappeared for 45 minutes (this isn't an exaggeration) with our cards, citing a "computer issue" only after I searched for them. These issues might be tolerable if the restaurant didn't present itself as high-end. The standard of service is higher at Chili's, indicating a clear management problem, even though the food is halfway decent. read more

From most reviews, we were looking forward to an elevated dining experience at Olaf's; instead we were met with sticker shock menu prices, indifferent service, and cold food. The owner's ranch to table beef pricing would have easily run into three figures per plate - the base price of $26 increases by $5-8 per ounce depending on cut, and we overheard the server tell the party at the next table say they only had 14 and 16 oz. servings available - so we settled for the Wagyu beef lasagna just to get a taste. It arrived twenty minutes later in bowls instead of on plates, with no discernible beef, barely warmed up, yet so overcooked there were no pasta layers left - it was revolting and inedible. The tea was so weak that, apart from the color, you couldn't tell it apart from tap water. We couldn't leave this clip joint fast enough - avoid. read more

Salads are delish! My fav is their house salad and sliders. I break my carb rule with eating them and I don't feel bad as they are worth it.

This was our second time to eat here! Both times, the food was amazing and the staff was super sweet, efficient, and made our experience perfect. Great Shopping and dinner while in Clifton Texas town. Would recommend reservations. Menu changes and has options for all tastes. We shared a filet and salad. So good we dug in before I took a photo. Steak cooked to order and delicious. Salad was the perfect side cold crisp and light. We enjoyed that our # triathlon - eating drinking shopping could be done under one roof. I remember this restaurant from when it was still in the antique store, a lot has definitely changed. I'm used to 5 star restaurants being from Houston and I absolutely do not mind paying for an experience. This was not it. For the price of the food, I would have expected something on par with a Brenner's or Vic & Anthony's. The food was lukewarm at best and did not wow at all. Service was lacking to say the least ; instead of gossiping in the back or in the bar area, they should probably work on seeing what your table needs. BUT this small town restaurant has so much charm and unbelievably pleasant . The decor was very welcoming and the seats super cozy , the temperature in the restaurant was perfect . This was my first visit to Clifton and I was not expecting the dining options to be all that great. We made a reservation for six and when we arrived we were greeted and seated immediately. The service was very good and attentive. My wife and I usually get two entrees and split so that we can each try two dishes instead of just one. (This way, if we are trying a new restaurant and one does not like their food, they have a second chance.). I had the pork chop and my wife ordered the salmon. Both were very good, but between the two, the pork chop was the best IMO. The sides were delicious as well. Every one else liked their food too. For dessert , we split the pecan cobbler a la mode and others had bread pudding. The cobbler was delicious and others stated the bead pudding was the best ever. We happened to be driving through Clifton and were looking for a restaurant. I saw the reviews of Olaf's and decided to give it a try. Let me tell you, it did not disappoint! We love to try out of the way places as we are from a tiny town. A 7 oz Wagyu filet was $56 and included 2 sides (the Mac and cheese was heavenly), broccolini, and house salad. The general manager (I think it was Jen), popped by all of the tables including ours to check on everyone. I cannot wait to go back and also check out some of the shops. Clifton has a cute downtown area! We will definitely be back! Ignore some of the reviews trying to compare to big city big name high end restaurants! I've never waited this long to eat a mediocre dinner and paid so much. Ever. We arrived and they couldn't find our reservation but could seat us promptly so no big deal. We ordered the shrimp cocktail, meatballs and flatbread for appetizers. The meatballs were really tender and the sauce was great. Nothing special about the shrimp cocktail and the flatbread was similar to those I've ordered through a drive thru sandwich shop. We had the blueberry mojito and jalapeño margarita and both were really good. All the appetizers and drinks came out in a timely manner and then it was as if we were forgotten. Which makes sense considering the seating made us look more like we were part of the antiques and gifts for sale rather than seating designed for an actual restaurant. It appears maybe an attempt to extend the number of folks that may be seated, they have begun to use the dealer booths as, well eating booths. The waiters were apologetic with a few excuses like, "someone took your food" and "we aren't sure why it's taking so long" which none seemed to be reassuring that we were going to receive our main courses anytime soon. We waited for our entrees for over an hour and a half. The food was room temperature and tough. Our bill was around $250. If you are visiting Clifton, Texas and you happen to experience the same visit we did, I want to reassure you that this is not the Texan way. We do not make people wait extended periods of time without knowing when to expect their meal and we do not provide lame excuses when it's not ready. We make it right. We offer more appetizers, drinks, a discount maybe even for waiting a ridiculous amount of time. Even the waiters had a hard time not laughing along with us when we became hysterical over the whole ordeal. Save your money. There may not be many eating options in this small town, but you will have better luck finding a local who will treat you right and give you a quick, warm meal. Long time customer and there has been a recent ownership change. I took a group to celebrate my wife's birthday. My steak was "rescued" from a tomahawk cut ... wedge shaped. About 1/2" thick at the edge and maybe 1.5" or so at the center. Outside was medium well and the inside was medium rare (as ordered). My friend's pork chop was tough as a nails. Another friend's dinner was ice cold. $730 later and the management seemed a bit perturbed that I wasn't pleased with the slow service and the poor meal preparation. It's going to be a long time before I make a return. I had been a customer at least 2-3 times a month. read more

We found this restaurant by accident while driving back to Austin from Cleburne. What a pleasant surprise! The restaurant is in a historic strip of downtown and when you walk in, the front area is an antique shop. The dining area is classy with nice art on the wall, comfortable and just avoiding being precocious. The service was not very attentive and that is probably my only negative. I ordered the steak and eggs and my partner ordered the Olaf's salad. Coffee was bland but ok. Bloody Mary was excellent. Eggs were ordered over medium and cooked to perfection. Steak was sirloin, very tender with decent flavor. Asparagus were gigantic but tasty. Biscuit was amazing, buttermilk like my grandmas. Salad was the star of the show and I would come back just for the salad. They would have received 4 stars if the service was better. read more

Went to Olafs last night after wanting to try it for over a year . Honestly the most expensive meal we have ever had and it was awful. I will say the chocolate martini was the best I've ever had . The chips and queso as well as the chefs salad was yummy. But there was 5 of us and not 1 of us liked our meals . The salmon was inedible, horrifically salty . The kids pizza was burnt . The buttered carrots were hard and had no butter . The 80 $ ribeye steaks were not only almost all fat but you could barely chew the meat. The grilled chicken was so dry. And the potato wheels " baked potato " was old and wax like. We were so Excited to try this place and even was looking forward to dessert since we were celebrating my birthday but after the horrible meal we barely ate , we couldn't bring ourselves to order anything else . Wanting something different and having not been to Clifton in several years, We checked out the Sunday brunch specials decided to drive to Olaf's for brunch. The restaurant is in the back of an antique store and my wife and her mother was quite pleased with the idea of shopping after lunch. We were seated quickly and the waitress brought us water and took our drink order. 20 minutes later our sweet tea and coffee would arrive at the table. The "sweet" tea barley had any sugar in it. The decorations in the restaurant are very fitting for the antique store and the food floors that are in the building are very nice. We ordered off the brunch menu (the only menu we were presented with). I ordered the Crab cake Benedict, my wife ordered the Eggs Benedict, and my mother in law ordered eggs with bacon and an English muffin. After a 35 minute wait or food came to the table. The Crab cake Benedict tasted overly salty and were burnt and the poached egg was way overcooked and not runny. The French fries were good though. My wife's eggs were on point and perfectly cooked however the ham was tough and overdone. She had a side of potato casserole that was really good unfortunately she could not eat it as it had jalapeño bits in it and she doesn't do well with peppers (this was not explained on the menu). My mother in law said her eggs tasted like powdered eggs or egg substitutes. The restaurant wasn't overly crowded while we were there either. Not sure if this was just an off day for the restaurant but it was Overall not a good experience. read more

We finally had the opportunity to try Olaf's and we'll definitely be back! The food was amazing and the service first class. We came in pretty late, closing time late. They were happy to seat us. Our server, Courtney, was delightful, as was the rest of the staff. We never once felt rushed. The live entertainment was the icing on the cake. It was a pleasure to meet and hear the beautiful voice of Miriam. I wish I had photos of all of it. The salads were also delicious. I had the Caesar, my husband had the house. The cheesecake and creme brûlée did not disappoint. There wasn't a disappointing moment in our meal. Worth every penny! read more

We stopped here in between Waco and Breckenridge, not knowing anything about Clifton. I saw a picture of their mashed potatoes somewhere and I was in. We had the "Complicated" wine and the special of the day. Every bite was scrumptious. We loaded up leftovers and they were still yummy the next day. Took my daughter from Florida here as she was missing big city life. I don't think her hopes were very high when she walked into an antique store. However, in the back of the store is a wonderful restaurant. Our server, Samantha, was friendly and attentive. The featured cocktails were delicious and presented to us in a timely manner. The noodles and sauce were good but the beef was so tough she couldn't eat it. I ordered the filet which was cooked perfectly but was also cold when it came to the table. After a full day of working on the farm, 13 miles west of Clifton, hubby and I decided to head into Clifton for dinner, not knowing what we'd find open. We live elsewhere and usually have our own groceries with us. We got a late start leaving and pulled into Clifton about 20 minutes before the kitchen closed. We missed a turn for someplace we were trying to find and ended up by the square. Seeing all the cars, we figured something was open, as we could hear music once we pulled in. That's when we noticed Olaf's and decided to check it out. What a pleasant and welcoming surprise. We were promptly greeted and shown to a table. We made our apologies for arriving so close to closing and we were assured it was no problem and never felt rushed. We each had a flat bread appetizer that were scrumptious followed by Olafs House salad, which I highly recommend and was so delicious. We topped it off with an entrée of salmon grits and asparagus. Fine dining in a comfortable and welcome atmosphere has come to Clifton. So glad we found Olaf's. We will be back. We had the pleasure of having Olaf himself stop by our table and we took delight in sharing our wonderful dining experience with him. read more

I've come twice now for brunch. The food is exemplary. Great attention to detail. Today I went with girlfriends and our bartender, Brandon was very nice and made me a custom concoction. Gin, hibiscus, lemon topped with champagne. I had the fried chicken with jalapeño corn and a potato casserole. The da lord were excellent. Our server Ryan was very kind and attentive. After my glowing, 5-star review three months ago, I must now add an update. For some unknown reason, Olaf's suddenly closed. We were excited to see there would be a grand re-opening with Brunch now being offered. We arrived on time for our reservation and were seated fairly soon by a pleasant young woman who appeared to be working her very first shift, without the benefit of training. We both ordered Eggs Benedict . The ham was dry and tough (impossible to cut), the hollandaise was skimpy and dry, as though it had been sitting under a heat lamp too long. I ordered a cappuccino and it was obvious the staff was unfamiliar with the concept. What happened to the wonderful chef? We won't be coming back for such an expensive meal that is not edible. read more

Last night we had s gathering of our local culinary club. 12 of us. We ordered appetizers and had drinks. The food was excellent. Chef Carlos prepared some special appetizers and they were wonderful. Absolutely outstanding We started with some signature cocktails and moved onto our salads. My wife had the Caesar Salad which tasted well. I had the Olafs house salad which was divine. So good I wanted more. For our entrees, she ordered the 8oz filet and I ordered the rack of lamb. The filet was really good but the lamb was scrumptious. A must try. Great atmosphere going into antique store into a an old library atmosphere. Nice reception by owner but downhill from there. Wanted grits over fancy potatoes dish, up charging for everything. Drinks and wine list limited but prices were not. Had shrimp cocktail with 6 small shrimp and dab of cocktail-sauce from a jar, that's it and shrimp were were small, nice to have had a cracker but assured it would be an up-charge. Salmon was good but no condiments. I believe it to be farm raised. Overall it is fine just good restaurant trying to be high end but has away to go. read more
