We came here during the Stagecoach Wine trail, it was a nice ride out here & good hospitality. I'm not sure I would have come out here otherwise. The wines were nice, mostly table-dry with some ports. Nice atmosphere is nice & they have cool accessories.

A delightful oasis in small-town Texas - we ended up camping here for four hours so that the BF could use their WiFi to run some last-minute work reports (because that's how relaxing getaway weekends go, right?). Fortunately, the folks here were wildly generous and accommodating, so our time at the Red Caboose was incredibly enjoyable, in spite of the work-related drama. A wine tasting is just $10 and lets you pick any 6 wines on the list (it also come with a Red Caboose wine glass!), so we did two of them and tried almost everything. They have a whole host of wonderful, dry reds - the Syrah and Melbec were both great, and I was also particularly fond of the Tempranillo (a grape usually used for ports). The bf also had a glass of the chocolate port which was freakin' amazing. The chardonnay is quite sweet - delicious, but not really very dry at all, which is interesting. Wasn't as much of a fan of the Hobo Hooch, but those aren't aged in oak, so they don't taste quite as much like Texas. We also got the three cheese plate, which was great - I let them pick the cheeses, and we wound up with a pepper jack, smoked gouda, and a delightful and whimsical blueberry white cheddar that I've been dreaming about ever since. They've also got a selection of sandwiches, salsas, and other noshing supplies which look great. The setting is delightful - bright and expansive, with big front windows and an outside deck positively dripping in grape vines. The chairs are comfy, with a nice selection of bar stools, tables (this would be a great place to bring a group), and nice wooden rockers outside. There's also a charming gift shop where you can get a ton of adorable wine-related merch, pick up a few bottles for your personal collection, and grab some local artisan chocolate as well.

I passed by many times, but it was not during business hours, so I was excited to finally go for a tasting. What a great winery! The owner is very friendly and explains the basics so everyone that leaves is educated on the basic wine principals. You can tell he loves what he does, and it shows in his products. Quite a large selection, way more reds than whites. There is plenty of seating inside and even a grapevine covered patio with comfortable seating. Wine themed gifts available for purchase. Their wine club seems to be a great social option for the locals with events like grape stomps, live music/food at their Meridian location just up the road. Limited food options during select times-see their website for more info

Poor service and unfriendly. The ladies were not nice at all and the tasting room was not ready when we showed up.

Ask the Community - Red Caboose Winery

Do they serve cheese and crackers along with the tasting?

With tastings, they do provide small palate cleansers, such as water crackers, but no cheese is included. They have a good selection of small plates to purchase as well if you prefer a larger portion. Prices were very reasonable for the size and… Read more

Headed to Red Caboose for the second winery of the day. Make sure you know which one you are going…read moreto. They have a tasting room that's open daily - this is the actual vineyard that is open on Saturdays. We arrived and thought the place was maybe closed. The dog (buddy - good luck finding your dad) greeted us. We stood around in the "shop" area for 2-3 minutes before we started to look for someone. The actual "tasting" bar is down near the outside patio. We found the hostess and were the only ones there. $15 for 6 tastes (we got 7 since another club member bottle had been opened previously). Pours are on the light side. The wines are generally dry red, but some sweet options are available. The hostess was fine - but was rather dry/dull. We ended up purchasing a bottle and sipping a glass outside on the patio. The view is quite nice and it's relaxing. A few other guests arrived after we finished our tasting - but it was far from busy (we drove by the other location on our way and it was full). A good winery stop for the day - bring some snacks and grab a bottle to hang out on the patio.

Recommended by a coworker, I visited Red Caboose around 3pm on a Saturday. The weather was perfect…read moreso we sat outside overlooking the grapevines, an spectacular 360 view of the country and the beautiful winery building. We were served by the owner, Gary. He is so friendly and knowledgeable, he designed everything on the winery so I would drive all the way to Meridian just to listen to him. Now the wines; the wines were interesting and reasonably priced. I particularly liked La Reina Tempranillo, Melrot and the Cab/Tempranillo blend. We tried around 7 wines in total, all of them (I'm not kidding) are really good wines. We stayed with dry reds so don't know about their whites. I loved the unpretentious setting and rustic ambiance, definitely will be back!

Placed on FM 2005, which might be renamed "The Road Less Traveled," the quaint tasting room overlooks hilly acres of vineyard. As this review is written, the vines are dormant, so I'm sure the visual effect will be much more dramatic in spring and summer. The tasting room is comfortable, and the crushed rock parking lot has room for about 6 cars maximum. The proprietors are welcoming, but also matter-of-fact. They will gladly shoot the bull with you regarding when the last rain came through, but they are also quick to point out that their Shiraz has a gold medal to its credit. After I tasted a few on my first stop through, they asked me how many cases I wanted. Pretty funny, but he was just as excited when I only bought one bottle. I'm sure the Red Wing Dove can expect more stops from us in the future.

Tasting was great and we left with their Tempranillo. They had a cheese board when I mentioned I was hungry so it's nice to know they have one. Crackers provided freely :) I'll gladly return in my next trip that direction where free time ensues! We went in fall/winter BUT I bet it's more beautiful in spring. My husband's grandmother informed me they have events there monthly that are a treat also!
