    Chips and salsa
    Dianne P.

Great lil gem in "downtown" Temple. I personally judge my Mexican/ Tex-Mex restaurants on their chips/salsa and their made to order margaritas. The margaritas (mine were on the rocks) made to perfection. Finally a place that has "Hot" salsa. Great taste, great amount of heat. Only miss with all of this are the chips. My personal preference is for a thinner chip. Some like the thicker ones and try this place regardless of my chip preferences. I ordered the Steak Fajitas with Corn tortillas. Great portion size. The sides were portioned to complete the meal. I did ask for sour cream since the menu did not say it came with it. Well it did and the waitress did not let me know that and so I got charged for an extra sour cream. Not a big fan of refried beans, however that was what they had. They tasted good and I believe if you are a refried beans type, they would be considered great! The restaurant itself is modern meets industrial vibe. Cozy but not tiny. The staff could be a little more attentive or at least more personable. All in all, I would eat here anytime I am visiting the area and wanting Mexican.

They had me at $10!!! I went here for lunch and my plate was only $10. The host was nice and welcoming. The waitress greeted us and immediately asked what we wanted to drink. The restaurant was clean and had nice ambience. I think this place would be nice for a celebration as well because they have small section in the back. The lunch menu is well put together and not overwhelming. I got the fiesta plate. It came with a crunchy taco, enchilada, and tosta. The beef was very well seasoned and not super duper dry! My waitress was great as well (I think her name starts with an "M". I will definitely be back for lunch!

Feb. 4, 2026 I had lunch again today with my sister and it didn't disappoint. The meal was delicious and the margaritas were so good. The service was excellent!!!

Cantina 1948 is a new hot spot! We dined here for an early birthday treat from my famz, and last dinner out in Texas for me... Upon entering, you'll find an attractive interior: Fashionably lit bar area Wooden tables with cushioned metal chairs Elegantly cushioned table seating A lounge Stage area Upstairs loft seating Music and silent TVs It's not an extensive menu but there are some delicacies theyve chosen to represent a few best of Mexican cuisine and even upped it up with different artistic presentational touches. Because of all the above, expect it to be a little pricier. Our drinks: Virgin Piña Colada Hopadillo Guava Margarita Our food: Tortilla Soup - chunky and nommerz Red Pork Tamales Elotes Preparado Mexican Board by Chuy Our recommendations: Mexican Board by Chuy Tortilla Soup Do browse through the other menu specialties. Come on a night with something live happening if you can. We had a great server They're a new welcome to Downtown Temple. Street parking has construction because of future new developments, but you should still be able to find a spot around the corner.

Our favorite Is Italian place had another hour till open ( we forgot ) and here we were in a parking spot and a sign saying Cantina 1948, so naturally I look up reviews. We tried it, the day was beautiful so we sat outside. Thomas, our server, was top notch. Everything about this place was superb. We ordered off the lunch menu and the food was great.. salsa and chips absolutely perfect, guacamole fantastic.. enchilada and taco, yummy! Margarita special with Patron was excellent. There is nothing bad to say about this place ! It will be one of our favorites from here on. If you haven't tried it.. what are you waiting for?

    Great presentation of shots.

First of all, Eric and Jorge are outstanding customer service tacticians! They know how to work customer service and make you feel like you are at home. Because of these gentlemen I will always come back for the good food and service. The 3 Taco Plate is my favorite! This is an mazing place to hang out with great food and staff. I'm grateful to be welcomed by people who love their job and make this business impressionable. -Shaun

    Ahi Tuna Tostada, very good!

I went on a Monday night around 8:30 pm. They had lights and music on! Just a few folks dining at the bar with me. It was great atmosphere and good food too! I got the tuna tostada. Not at all disappointed! Great service too. I wish I remembered my bartender's name, but she was sweet and attentive.

Appetizers were Risotto Tots, Very good, also to large crab cake with remoulade sauce, excellent. Shrimp scampi was excellent and very filling. They have a very diverse menu for varying appetites. Since it's a small space and echoey, we could not hear ourselves over the group of people talking. Drinks: We started with the Queen Bee cocktail and a red wine. The cocktail was good but I didn't feel the mixture of flavors worked well for my taste. I can't recall the name of the wine but it was a nice wine to pair with red meat. Appetizers: we started with the fried green tomatoes and the Caesar wedge salad. The tomatoes were a little bland and came out cold (not sure if that was on purpose?). The wedge was good but was slathered in dressing which made it a little too rich. *Side note: I realized after we left that complimentary bread was mentioned on the appetizer menu, but I'm unclear if we had to ask for that...? It was never offered nor brought out. I decided against ordering the French baguette because I assumed there was complimentary bread. Entrees: I had the Ravioli Diablo and my husband tried the Sea Bass special that came with clams, mussels and lobster ravioli. The Ravioli Diablo was just OK, kind of a small portion. For the special, he liked the mussels but thought the sea bass was a little overdone. In hindsight, there was a lot going on with that plate; the ravioli was a bit out of place and it could've used a nice risotto or rice instead. Dessert: we tried ordering Creme brulee but they were out so we ordered the "brown butter" cheesecake instead...I'm including the description from the menu and a picture of the bare cheesecake loaf I received with no toppings (I took the picture after my husband took a bite). I'm actually most disappointed about this since I was hoping it would be the part of the meal to make up for the mediocrity of everything else. "Vanilla bean brown butter with candied pecans and soft whipped cream" Honestly I tried to be optimistic but it was overall not the experience I was hoping for. Especially for a $200 bill.

The Parlour: had a sour lime taste to it with a big green skull ice block. My friend kept the golden skull pick as it is marketed as a keepsake, which is a very cute idea. This is one of their most expensive cocktails. Lychee Martini: this was terrible. I love lychee, and I like martinis, but this tasted like foul flowers. I would call this a rotten lavender taste. I did not taste any lychee. Living Dead Girl: tasty vodka cran drink with real blackberries. They got stuck in my teeth and stained them, but it tasted great.
