Popular coffee spot in OC - went on a Tuesday morning & there was still a line! Parking is easy - big parking lot. The shop is structured as a grab & go coffee spot- no indoor seating. You line up in front & get called to order & pay then wait for your drink outside. Workers were friendly & efficient! less than 5 min wait for my drink despite the growing line. It would be a perk if they had a seating area though (we need more 3rd spaces!!!). I got the coconut water matcha cream & I like how they used pink coconut water (iykyk!!) & the matcha cream was nice & consistent! I liked how refreshing this drink was! I would come back if I'm in the area again!
I waited 45 min on a Friday afternoon for a drink, which I had anticipated because of the long line. The parking lot is spacious & there are several reminders to not block the entrance of other businesses. The pumpkin matcha was great, but it doesn't justify the wait as it has a similar flavor to other coffee shops. They also give a complimentary tote bag, if you ask! I also got a blueberry matcha, not pictured here, but it was overly sweet. The interior is small & you cannot study inside. It is mainly just grab & go. The music was great! Not sure when I will be back, but I look forward to trying other items!
Staff is super helpful and kind. Delicious matcha. I got the mango matcha, and it's one of the best in the area. Only complaint is the long and crazy line, which can get up to 40min. Not sure if any drink is ever worth that long of a wait.
As someone in OC I had to see what the hype was about - 35 min later in 100° weather, I finally found out! Honestly just as good as I expected. The coconut water matcha cream was sooo good. So refreshing with great quality matcha cream. The color was gorgeous and the flavors were perfect together. My partner got the coconut iced blended coffee and it was super tasty and coconutty! Good coffee flavor too. The girls working here are also super sweet and helpful. Would come again, just need to brace myself for the line lol!
Ayer Coffee is constantly touted as one of the best matcha spots in the OC. After a while waiting on the sidelines due to the massive lines I passed by, I finally came at a good time where it wasn't too long of a wait and came away impressed. Ayer Coffee is located in the middle of a Tustin small strip mall plaza. It's a pretty small shop with very limited seating inside and usually a line waiting outside. I came in the middle of the day on a weekday around 1PM where the line wasn't too bad but grew quickly right after I left. You wait outside until you're called in to order with a menu waiting for you at the window. Ayer has a variety of coffee drinks, but I was here for the matcha which they conveniently number in order along with seasonal/special drinks. As always for me, I order the standard iced matcha latte without any syrups. Service was super kind all around. Getting the drink took about 5 minutes. All-around, I can see why people enjoy the matcha, even at the base drink level. The size is a good standard cup for about $7, and the matcha is very noticeable without being too grassy / earthy. It had a well balanced consistency and think it was mixed with solid oat milk that didn't overpower the matcha. Ayer sources their own matcha which they also sell. Overall, came away impressed that it met the hype!
Came here on a Friday afternoon and the line was pretty healthy. Finding a parking spot wasn't bad and we waited about 30 mins. Not much of an ambience since you just order and wait for your drinks. My wife and I ordered the pumpkin pie matcha and salted Saigon. The drinks came out super quick! BELIEVE THE HYPE. Both of these drinks were AMAZING. The pumpkin puree was real and tasted like actual pumpkin, unlike the other coffee spots that sell fake pumpkin sauce. The salted saigon is probably the best Vietnamese coffee I've ever had. No exaggeration.
Finally got to try Ayer because the line is usually long when we pass by, but today we had the time to wait. Ordered the mango matcha, matcha two, salted saigon, and salt bread. The matcha two and salt bread were solid, but the salted saigon tasted fantastic. The mango matcha didn't taste as expected, but maybe it's because mango isn't in season. I personally wouldn't get it again. Overall Ayer was good, but will definitely need to come back to try other matcha drinks. The line usually goes out the door so definitely recommend coming early. They will call you when to come in and order, otherwise it'd be way too crowded inside. Ambiance: There is no seating inside the cafe so you just come and pick up your drink/bread and leave. Only salt bread is offered food wise.
I wanted to hate this place because how long the wait was but when we finally got to the front we got a matcha 2, and a Saigon drip. I'm so upset the matcha here was so fire cause now I have to wait in the stupid long line again. Coffee was good too very nutty but the matcha was the star so def recommend getting one. Service was also very nice, she brought our drinks out to us.
The line is always long but it's sooo worth it! Their banana hojicha is so good and I love the toffee bits. Their matcha is really good too.
I was impressed by the variety of coffee and matcha drinks that are here! You could have a range of fruity and tropical drinks to more rich, spice forward drinks. Because it was Summer, I opted for the guava Matcha because it sounded very refreshing. I was surprised with how not too sweet and light it was, but it was still packed with wonderful guava flavor. I was more impressed that they hand whisk every Matcha drink in a bowl, but still, they deliver with speed, efficiency, and quality. My sister got the Matcha with banana and that one was very good. You can tell they use real banana. My only thing is I believe the bananas weren't ripe enough, but I know that it is hard to always have the perfect ripeness for bananas because of demand. This is definitely a grab and go establishment. There is no inside seating or bathrooms. I do advise you to use the bathroom before because all the restaurants nearby will not allow you to use the restroom unless you make a purchase. I definitely want to try the coffee drinks next time because their name has coffee in the title so I should try what they are known for by name!
OVERALL : This was my second time at Ayer. The first time I tried their classic matcha latte w/ matcha foam, mango matcha, and strawberry matcha. The drinks were perfectly creamy esp w/ oat milk, and matcha was strong enough to hold up against all the different flavors. There's always a line out the door on a weekend afternoon, but we only waited about 20 mins and the drinks were well worth the wait. Service was super friendly and helpful w/ reccs. Note that this is more of a take-and-go spot, not for sitting inside. PARKING : There is a parking lot but it is small; might need to make some rounds before you can find a spot. The plaza gets pretty crowded during peak hours! FOOD/DRINKS : Guava Matcha Latte - sweet and refreshing, the guava doesn't overpower the matcha taste and it's a good summer drink! strawberry is prob still my go to though when I want a fruity matcha Pumpkin Matcha Latte - their fall seasonal drink! so surprisingly good - this reminded me of a pumpkin pie esp with the prominent pumpkin taste + the warm fall spices! Would def get again.
We'd driven past countless times and there was always a line, so we finally stopped in. The wait is real, and it comes from two things. The ordering setup is inefficient -- you give your order to one employee who writes it on the cup, then repeat the whole thing to a second employee to pay. That part could easily be streamlined. But the other reason is that they hand-whisk the matcha fresh to order, and I'll give them full credit for that. Most places don't bother. You can tell they care about the process. Which makes it harder to say this: the matcha itself just wasn't good. It came out grainy with an artificial taste. I ordered the salted vanilla matcha cream top, and the vanilla and milk powder flavor overpowered whatever matcha was underneath. Three stars because the effort and intention are clearly there -- it's the execution on the matcha that missed for me. They're a roaster, so the coffee is probably the stronger order, and I'd try that next time.
coconut iced coffee - should've asked for much less sweet, it's super sweet but I like the coconutiness I also tried a bit of the mango matcha (less less sweet) and it was better than I expected actually there was quite a bit of a line but it went by pretty fast staff is very friendly

A solid matcha spot! Came around 12 PM on a Friday and waited about 30 minutes total between the line and getting our drinks. The mango matcha had a really fresh, fruity flavor, while the banana matcha was super creamy and slightly thick, probably from the real banana foam and oat milk. The toffee bits on top were so good and added a nice texture and extra sweetness. The store itself is pretty small and most of the space is taken up by ordering and making drinks, so there's nowhere to sit or really chill. Definitely more of a pick me up drink kind of place than somewhere to hang out, but the drinks were solid! read more
Super TLDR: -Loved the Matcha Two, will try Mango Matcha next. -Matcha was creamy, smooth, & perfectly sweet. -It was awesome to see the employees whisk each individual portion in their matcha bowls in the kitchen. -Most drinks use Oat Milk by default, can adjust sugar to less sweet. -About $6-$8 per drink. -Parking lot is semi-crowded, and wait time is about 20 minutes, as there's always a line. -Orders come out pretty timely & definitely coming back again! read more

Simple menu items and tasteful drinks. Came by on a Wednesday around noon time. There was a line by the time we found parking. Only waited maybe 10 minutes before we got to order. I got to try their black sesame matcha. I'll say, I appreciate their line system so that orders will flow from order, make, and serve. After payment, waited maybe 5 minutes or so after paying for my beverage. Black sesame was unique and paired well with the matcha. The base oat milk was a great choice to complement the matcha. I might give one of their fruit matcha's a chance next time. read more
Wanted so badly to like this place because of how long I waited in line (45 mins) and all the hype, but unfortunately this didn't live up to my expectations. It was also a bit hard to find a parking spot in the lot because of how crowded it was. I got the Matcha 2 and thought it tasted just ok compared to a lot of the other double matchas I've had around OC. Drinks here are sooo good. Hojicha is good, with a proper tea flavor and not watered down at all. The banana hojicha is super good. Definitely can see why the other reviews rave about it. The black sesame coffee latte didn't have much of a black sesame flavor, even with the black sesame cream mixed in. But the coffee flavor was good. Employees are friendly and prepare the drinks with a sense of urgency. Even with a long line, it wasn't a long wait. read more
Come in knowing what you want to order! The setup is pretty unique. you walk in, tell the barista your order first, and then head over to the cash register to pay. I actually thought the system was pretty dope and efficient. That said, I can definitely see how it could be frustrating if you're indecisive or it's your first time visiting, so I'd recommend looking at the menu beforehand if you can. I ordered the Matcha #2, and my husband got the Saigon Drip. Once your drink is ready, they hand it directly to you, which keeps the process moving. As for the drinks, they were just okay. The matcha wasn't anything too special. It leaned more on the watery side and reminded me a lot of Junbi's matcha. Not much matcha flavor. Considering the line, I was expecting a little more. My husband liked the Saigon Drip, but we both thought it tasted pretty similar to Lee's Coffee. It had a slight salty note, which we actually enjoy, but the coffee flavor itself wasn't as bold as we were hoping for. Overall, I'm glad we gave it a try, and the staff was really friendly. It was a fun experience but I personally don't think it's worth waiting in a long line for. I'd maybe come back, but it probably wouldn't be my first choice. read more

People weren't kidding when they said there's always a line here! I came at 8:15am on a Tuesday before work and waited about 15 minutes in line, 5 minutes to get my drinks. I guess a lot of people had the same idea to get their matchas before work lol. I got the Matcha Two and it was sooo good. Strong matcha flavor and love the lil matcha powder detail on top! I could see myself coming here before work more often. There's a lot of workers working hard to hand whisk the matchas and they're all super friendly!! read more
Ayer is worth the hype! Be prepared to wait- I got there just before 9 AM and there was already a line and it doubled by the time I left. The matcha is top tier in quality and flavor. Super vibrant and the banana foam and toppings was a perfect pairing. The Korean Salt Bread was a wonderful snack, and resembled a bread/butter roll with extra salt. The workers were super nice even with a huge line. Can't wait to come back! read more
My favorite everrrr!!! Best matcha & flavors, always has a line outside the door. Though the lines are long, the max I've ever waited AFTER ordering is 5-10minutes. Parking lot but can get filled during peak hours. They also sell salt bread but they didn't have it today. (Heard great things about it though) TLDR: Matcha 2 is one of my favorite double matchas. Their fruit matchas are super refreshing & the purées are fresh & not superficial tasting at all. Really looking to explore more of their drinks since they all look super yummy. read more
Great service. Friendly staff and quick to make drinks. All matchas are whisked by hand and made to order. The matcha has a great flavor and the fruit puree is fresh and potent. My friend and I agreed we wouldn't want to wait an hour again in that line, but it's definitely a top 5 spot in OC for matcha! read more
Soo popular even during a weekday theres a line. I think the wait took around 30 minutes and voicing others the drink does come out fast. Its a grab and go place, but theres just one little plaza parking which can be hard to have available spots sometimes. They handwhisk the matcha. The matcha is okay, Its not astrigent and bitter, but not high quality enough to drink plain with water and definitely suits more sweet drinks, has that milky texture with some savoury notes (matcha part just soso) The guava milk part of the drink was soo delicious and creamy, not sure how to put it but it was definitely my first time having like a guava custard flavored drink. So I'd recommend their mixed flavor drinks. read more
Stopped by on a weekday in the early afternoon and the line was very long! It went all the way down the plaza, and took around 15-20 minutes which was a lot faster than I thought. The set up of the ordering/receiving your drink is very very efficient; it is more of a pick up coffee than sit and enjoy. I was pleasantly surprised with the coffee, and my friend got the matcha to try. Loved both! read more

First time going on a weekend afternoon, there was a long line outside and no parking. Matcha #2 is chef's kiss. Got a bit of salty cream that makes it special. They were out of their Korean bread. Drink was so good, we went again a couple days later. Second time going on a morning work day, there was parking and a small line. Same matcha drink and although early, they had already run out of the Koran bread. I may never get to try it :( Family got Matcha #1 and 3, so I got to try them. They're all good but #2 is the fave! read more
My favorite place for matcha. I'm not even a banana fan but this one with the toffee bits was a 10/10. The coconut matcha wasn't bad, but was just meh. Not something I would get again I think. Definitely not bad. The only downside to this place is the line. read more
Ok so I've heard a lot of good things about this place so I was really excited to try it! It was such a tough decision choosing which matcha to order since they have so many different flavors, including guava and black sesame which both sound incredible! First off, I want to say that the service was great! 10/10! The people taking my order were so nice and they even brought my drink outside for me. I opted for the banana matcha because I love banana matcha and I've seen people post about it online. To be completely honest I thought it was just okay. I mean the matcha was good, but I actually didn't really like the banana foam by itself. For example, I love Taty's banana cream and could eat that stuff by the spoonful. However, when I mixed it in the matcha it tasted much better for some reason. The toffee bits also add a nice crunch. Overall I'd give it a 6.5/10. I'd definitely be willing to give Ayer another try before forming a conclusive opinion on their matcha. Their matcha quality is good, so I think I just need to try a different drink. read more

Went on a Monday morning at 9:30am and lines were already forming! It's a small order and go shop, no place to sit and chill. They also have Korean bread which you should definitely try! Tried out their double matcha and coconut coffee! Both were really good! It is on the less sweet side fyi, in my opinion I think it could use a little more sweetness but I still enjoyed the drinks none the less! This place is pretty solid! But I am not sure if I would wait more than 30 mins if the line was super backed up! Luckily the wait was only about 20 mins from waiting in line to receiving the drinks. read more
If you see a line out the door, you're in the right place! Ayer can get pretty crowded on weekends, and the parking lot fills up fast. But the line moves pretty steadily! They only allow one party in the shop at a time. You order with one person, and then they send you to the cashier to pay. Once you place your order, the drinks come out pretty quickly. I love a good Blueberry Matcha, so I knew I had to try one. The matcha latte has oat milk and their house blueberry puree. I really enjoyed it! They also have their Matcha Lattes "One," "Two," and "Three." We opted for the Matcha Three which includes salted matcha vanilla ice cream and matcha sorbet, oat milk, and house vanilla syrup. It was pretty good! Lastly, we got the Coconut Pandan Green Rice drink which sounded unique! It's ice blended with coconut cream, pandan coconut rice, and condensed milk. It's a thicker drink with more texture from the rice. I'll be back! read more
Went on a Friday afternoon and there was a line so hesitated on waiting, but the line moved rather quickly so don't let it detour you! From waiting to getting my drink, it took 15 minutes. I got the matcha two and the hojicha latte and they were both really good. There's not many coffee shops where I actually enjoy their matcha but this place actually has good smooth matcha with the perfect blend of sweetness and matcha flavor. That goes the same with the hojicha, many places have it too milky or watered down that you can't taste the tea, but they did their hojicha well too. Will definitely come back and try their other more unique combinations and standard coffee too! Plenty of parking as it's in a plaza but only downside is there's no seating for you to hang out while having your drink. read more
Finally! I got to try this coffee place! I have tried at least 5 times and all the times the line is at the end of the shopping center where it's located. I took my chances today being a Friday at 10 am to see if I got lucky. I saw a line but it was only like 10 people deep. So I stayed. This place is basically you order your drink and stand outside and wait for it. It doesn't have seating tables . That's probably why the line moves kind of fast. The ladies at the counter and at the register are very friendly and keep the line going pretty good. I ordered the banana coffee with cream tools and it was delicious. I wish they had a bigger size of it. They only have one size. The drink was the perfect consistency of coffee and sweetness. It was so tasty. Definitely coming back but during the week. read more

Blueberry matcha. That is it. Long line!!! but it goes by surprisingly fast. One thing I love is that they make sure that only one group is inside ordering at a time. Once indoors, you can see how they prepare their matcha in a big batch. Love that!! Hence why the line goes by so quickly. I also appreciate the Dairy warning sign on their menu. The person checking me out was such a sweetie. They asked about my weekend plans and sounded genuinely interested, Glad to see they keep a good attitude despite being so busy. Small shop with limited seating. This coffee shop gets a line but it moves fast. They are known for their salt bread, matchas, and coffee. Tried their original strawberry matcha which was vibrant green and had hints of umami. Salt bread was freshly baked with a crunchy bottom. Would definitely recommend to give this spot a try. The first time I tried to come here, there was a line out the door. I thought there was a promotion or something but it was just their line. Apparently it's small inside so they only allow 1 group in at a time. So this 2nd time, I decided to stay and wait out the line. I did time it and it took 15 from the time we waited in line to order to getting our drinks. So not bad. I got the blueberry latte less sweet-I enjoyed my drink, first time having blueberry. There was a good amount of blueberry syrup and I'm glad I got it less sweet. My friend go the banana matcha and she liked it. The toasted crunch added was a nice touch. Definitely a treat. Their matcha is high quality and delicious! The matcha 3 has basically 3 servings of matcha! It has a bitterness. The coconut pandan smoothie was ok. It sounds really good on the menu, especially reading the ingredients. But would not get it again. The service is efficient. There was a line and we waited about 25 minutes. And the drinks came out within 10 minutes. Ambiance is a small shop and they sell their own matcha powder and hojicha. read more
This place is definitely worth the hype! I ordered the Strawberry Matcha with Sea Salt Cream Foam and the Matcha Latte, and both were delicious. They were sweet, creamy, and had a rich matcha flavor without being overpowering. My favorite was the Strawberry Matcha--the flavors were incredibly well balanced. The fresh strawberry purée added a refreshing, natural sweetness that paired perfectly with the matcha and cream foam. I visited on a Sunday around 11 AM, and the line took about 30 minutes, but it was well worth the wait. The staff were super friendly, and once I ordered, the drinks came out quickly. Definitely the best Vietnamese coffee I've had, and I've tried a lot. The Salted Saigon had the perfect balance of flavors. My friend got the Coconut Matcha and it was surprisingly delicious too. The line looks intimidating but moved pretty fast -- about 20 mins when we went and totally worth it. Parking can be rough. Amazing service too, the ladies working there were so sweet and welcoming. read more
The salted saigon is vietnamese coffee with cream on top and it is a solid choice. The spanish phin tasted darker than my liking but it is still a solid choice. Would love to try their matcha next time. The matcha latte with matcha cream on top looked very green, so you know it's authentic matcha. They also sell Korean salt bread in limited quantity, so come early before it sells out. *** Signature Korean Salt Bread (Limited Daily - $4.50): A bit cold but tasted good. Mango Matcha (Made with oat milk & mango purée - $7.50): I see the appeal - the drink was quite good. The matcha did not taste overly diluted and the sweetness level was solid. *** Overall this is a 5-star-worthy matcha shop in Orange County. read more

One of the top OC matcha spots in my opinion. I've tried the double matcha and coconut water matcha and both are fire. Good size, not criminally expensive, and great quality matcha. There is always a line though so be prepared to wait :') read more
I stopped by Ayer on a Sunday around 3:30 PM and there was a line as expected. It only looks long because the line starts out the door, with the inside of the shop having two stations: one station is to place your order and the other is to pay for your drinks. It's a small coffee shop and is more of a grab-and-go place. Despite how busy they get, the workers are very friendly and efficient. A male worker (who I believe was the owner) who was regulating the line was very kind and apologized about the wait. Shows the care that they have for their customers. I ordered the mango matcha, which are two of my favorite things. The flavors compliment each other well with a good balance between the two rather than one flavor overpowering the other. It reminded me of a mango lassi with a hint of matcha. The drink is overall very refreshing and smooth, and I would recommend it if you're looking to try a more unique matcha drink. read more
It's organized and run efficiently. The line wasn't too bad and imo moves quickly. Once you order and pay, the drinks come out fast. The cashier was super friendly and very cheery. I got Matcha Two and my sister got Mango Matcha. I was between Matcha Two and Strawberry Matcha but decided to go with Matcha Two. It was satisfactory, but I've had better. My sister really wanted to try their Signature Korean Salt Bread but they had already sold out. They probably had literally just sold out shortly before because we saw people eating it/ were able to purchase one. Parking was easy to find. Ayer in Tustin is a hidden little matcha gem! Totally unassuming, hole-in-the-wall spot, but there was a LONG line of young, cool people waiting for their matcha -- and now I get why. Came with my daughter and got two matchas. The quality was on point: perfectly creamy, just the right amount of sweetness, and seriously smooth. One sip and I finally understood the matcha obsession. Stopped by earlier today and there was a short line. Parking was easy since it's located in a plaza. Ordering and paying was nicely organized. Service was so friendly!!! I ordered the Matcha Two (less sweet + oat milk) and also purchased a 40 gram tin of their matcha. Once you're finished paying, you stand outside until they call you with your order. They called my name fairly quick and my drink was BEAUTIFUL. The color was a perfect shade of green. I have no notes (I'm a picky person when it comes to my matcha). 10/10! read more

Went to Ayer twice in one week because the hype is too good! Every time I've gone, there has been a long line to get drinks - it doesn't help that parking is tough too. The line moves pretty quickly compared to other places in my opinion! I have tried the mango and guava matchas, but the mango stands out the most! read more
