We came in tonight and the place wasn't busy, so we sat right away. We ended up ordering a calypso steak bowl, and some tacos, which were the shrimp taco, el jefe, piggy smalls and chimichurri steak, along with a couple of nonalcoholic drinks. The food overall was good. The service, on the other hand, sucked. The waiter forgot a drink that we had to remind him about, and he never came by for a refill. Also, as we were waiting for the bill, there was a table that sat down and was waiting and waiting and waiting, but the server went to another table that just sat down. If I was at the table that was waiting and waiting and waiting, I would've just got up and left. I'd go back, but if it was the same server I'd walk out. Also, why is it that the tip on the machine they hand you is conveniently set to 24%? That's really messed up because most people just hit the button and don't pay attention. I want to like this place more since the ambience/vibe is really chill, the location is really close, but factoring in the price and flavors, I just can't. If you're dining in, you can order using the QR code which is pretty convenient. Otherwise, you can do it the traditional way with your server. Food wise, we got the carnitas nachos, yucca fries and the chipotle chicken bowl. The nachos - definitely something you can't order for take-out or delivery since the chips themselves aren't that thick and probably wouldn't survive longer than 15 mins due to the queso, pico de gallo and sour cream. Taste wise, probably the best thing out of the three. The yucca fires we really sauced with the crema and had a bit too much of the tajin. The bowl, it was okay. Nothing special, but again the flavor was too much. They totally overdid the dressing and the rice seemed a bit under cooked. As mentioned in my first sentence is the pricing. The version we received was more cooked on the inside, and the sauce obscured the degree of doneness. - Shrimp Rémoulade Taco: $5. The taco shell was unheated; it should have been slightly toasted. - Calypso Steak Taco: $5.50. The version we received omitted the truffle sauce. When another restaurant turned out to be closed when my siblings and I arrived with our kids, we had to think fast and accommodating. Avo Taco was the first thing that came to mind and as luck would have it, we walked in on their weekly trivia night. Every Thursday from 7pm -9pm the entire restaurant participates in a trivia game as you eat. John the host of game night, knocked it out of the park. I went when they were still in their grand opening phase with limited menu, so they didn't have any steak tacos. Not sure if they have a full menu now. Because they were still in soft opening, sadly I couldn't get my beloved calypso, which is my and my boyfriends fave! Found this gem during lunch! Walking in there the staff was very friendly when greeting us. I ordered take out. Waited a few mins since I called it in and added another item when I was there. Overall service was quick. (It wasn't busy at that time.) The Shrimp tacos were very fresh and delicious! There was a lot of flavor in there due to the sauces they added. Leaves me wanting more! Went for the first time last weekend, I was pleasantly surprised! I thought it was going to be more like a chipotle, I didn't realize it was a sit down and be served restaurant. It's super cute, made me feel like I left New York for a couple of hours. Since it was our first time we wanted to try a little bit of everything. Since they just recently opened they didn't have their full menu yet which was fine with us. Cauliflower appetizer was really good, along with the pulled pork nachos. WOW, was I wrong? The Brussels sprouts were busting with flavor, the kung pao aioli added a depth of flavor, and the roughly chopped cashews added a nice crunch to this taco. This was hands down my favorite taco today. The Coco Loco had two perfectly fried large shrimp over a bed of delicate slaw, and the toasted coconut was a really nice topper. This taco had a little too much sweet chili sauce for my liking, but this didn't stop me from devouring it. Next time I will just order the sauce on the side. The Cowboy taco arrived with a big 'ol pile of braised shredded pork that was seasoned well and topped with crunchy fried onions. The meat on this taco was wet due to the braising liquid and it was impressive how well the tortilla held the meat perfectly. Similar to the Coco Loco the BBQ sauce on this taco was a little on the sweet side for my taste I think I would prefer it on the side. Bonus points: Gender-neutral bathrooms & non-disintegrating biodegradable straws!! The tortillas are made special for Avo Taco. I have been here a few times and I have to be honest, it has never yet disappointed me. The drinks are yummy ! The food so yummy And the service has always been with a smile !! One of my very favorite parts is the complimentary mini ice cream cone at the end. My friend had a steak taco which had a nice amount of guacamole on top. I had the chicken bowl and found it to be pretty good. The servers were very friendly but could be more attentive. My friends and I always go for their Tuesday 3 for $14 deal and get Margs as well. Can't beat that deal for that quality and amount! It was clean, people looked like they were having a good time, and the service was quick and friendly. What could go wrong? Short answer: the tacos. Before discussing the tacos, we ordered the Carnitas Nachos for an app and it was great! The meat was juicy and there was plenty for us to split. Then came the tacos... I don't know if your experience might vary with whoever is making/cooking the tortillas, but my tortillas were these perfectly round, doughy disks that reminded me of play-doh. I had ordered 3 different tacos, and they were all underwhelming. My main issues are: the tortillas turned every taco into a doughy soft-shelled taco experience, the proteins of the taco were sometimes overwhelmed by the taco sauces, and I finished every taco with a sweet taste in my mouth. I don't know about most people, but I eat tacos for a deep savory experience. Overall, I had a sad experience in paradise. Sometimes the best tacos are the simplest ones that aren't afraid to show you their quality. Avo Taco fan here. I enjoyed their food and flavored margarita when they did a soft opening and were giving away food in the Fall. This time I had the kid sized steak and cheese quesadilla ($4) guacamole and chips with shredded chicken mango salsa upgrade ($10) the steak quesadilla was a sizable portion and delicious as was the guacamole. My niece had the kids' chicken tender and homemade tortilla chips ($5) Everything is made with fresh and homemade ingredients and is a good value.
