Being a non-beer drinker, brew pubs don't appeal much to me. However, they do appeal a lot to my beer-loving husband, particularly Avery. We've been here several times including his first Father's Day earlier this year, because there was no place he'd rather celebrate. (I think my home-cooking just got snubbed.) In fact, the only reason why we're not here every time my husband wants to go out for a beer is because the wait is kind of ridiculous. I can easily see why, even if Avery isn't exactly my scene. There is a huge selection of beers, which means there's something for everyone. Plus, the food is delicious! It's all simple but satisfying, flavorful without being too salty. We get Das Pretzel with the beer cheese dip every time, and switch it up between shareables or ordering our own entrees depending on how much variety we want. Most recently, we ordered the pretzel along with croquettes and buffalo chicken legs and thighs. The croquettes were savory, and the jalapeño bread crumbs weren't overpowering at all. The buffalo chicken was packed with flavor. On Father's Day, I ordered the finger-licking good spare ribs, and my husband enjoyed his meatloaf with collard greens, mashed potatoes, and corn bread. I love Avery's beers so this review is mostly focusing on the taproom itself. I've visited twice on the weekends and getting in their waitlist on a busy day is a must (which can be done via mobile). Otherwise you'll be looking at an hour wait in their standing areas that consists of some barrels with umbrellas you can order at. The patio itself is large but mostly devoid of shade besides the umbrellas over the tables so half your party is stuck in the sun depending on the time of day. An upgrade to their patio area with communal tables, way more shade, and greenery would make this feel much more special than it is. My wife's bowl was actually really tasty with the beats but my brisket left something to be desired. Two beers and our meals ended up over $80 leaving some sticker shock. I would consider coming back again but this is definitely not my favorite patio to hangout at. read more

I love the beer, I love the food, I love the vibe. Visiting from out of state, we were that annoying couple who showed up 5 minutes before opening, but the staff was great about it. We got a table on the patio so our dog could join us. What a nice outdoor area. Lots of people brought dogs so that's always a bonus in my book. I noticed people riding their bikes here and others stopping in after a run. It seems like a nice community here. For beer I started with the white rascal which was fantastic. I also finished my wife's island rascal, very tasty. We tried a sample of another that had watermelon, lime and sea salt. I liked that as well. For food I got the brisket plate. Top notch! Brisket was juicy and came with a beer mustard sauce. It came with fennel slaw which is really good as well. There was a small portion of Mac and cheese with bacon. I didn't really care for that as it lacked flavor. We split bread pudding for dessert. I usually pass on dessert, but this was so good! It has espresso, chocolate and whipped cream on it. Staff was great, everyone we dealt with was friendly and seemed to enjoy working there. We will definitely return next time we are in Boulder! read more

Cute brewery- went for early dinner but they were out of my first choice for dinner ( fish and chips) as well as my 1st choice of beer.

Came here on a whim because it happened to be late in the afternoon (hungry) and happened to be 0.5 miles away from the restaurant. Came in and got seated quickly, but the restaurant was pretty crowded for the time of the day, both inside and outside. There is restaurant seating upstairs, downstairs and outside, which is a bonus. With over 30 beers to choose from, Hilary helped us out greatly in picking the beer. I tried the PBJ Stout which with the bitterness of the stout and the sour of the raspberry, gave it a wonderful taste. Unfortunately, I was unable to taste peanut flavor that was infused in the beer. The Fried Chicken Sammy had a really good taste to it and came out pretty hot. Had to wait a few moments before trying to eat the sandwich. The GF ordered the Barbacoa Burrito which was pretty good, but wasn't spicy at all (had to add some hot sauce), but had some good flavor to it. Would get the same food again. Visit the gear shop while you are there as well. It is upstairs as well, but you can get all of the 30 flavors of beer plus some good deals on pint cups and shirts. Will be there again read more

Visited Avery Brewing with my wife while on a trip to Denver/Boulder for GABF and was blown away by the awesome tour we were given by August! He was very thorough in describing Avery's history and the brewing process, which is a huge plus and not always of such quality on brew tours. All questions were answered and we got to sample some of the Maharaja at the end--an excellent IPA! Following the tour, I had a few more tasters (Ellie's & White Rascal, both excellent options) along with a Cobb salad which was pretty bomb! They put something spicy in it which added a nice kick and made it not your typical boring salad. My wife ordered some gumbo and enjoyed it as well. Again, Judy the right amount of kick without being overbearing. Whether you're coming for food or their amazing craft beer, you won't be disappointed at Avery! PS: this place understandably gets crowded. We went on a Sunday afternoon and for a table for two inside we were looking at a 40-minute wait. If you're like me and don't wish to wait, try to snag an outside table on the patio, which is first come first serve. Oh, and if you go around this time of year, don't miss out on trying Rumpkin! A must stop for beer and food lover in Boulder, CO. It's a huge brewery which offers tours every hour. The ground level has nice dog patio. Then outdoor patio with picnic style seating. Inside has plentiful of high tops and small group seating also full spread of what's on tap. My wife and I enjoyed the beer and food. I recommend do beer flights to sample your favorite beer. I enjoyed the hazy beer, which you have other seasonal beers to choose from. The food was south comfort style. We had the fried green tomatoes and their three meats was amazing. Three meats consistent with bbq pork rib, beef rib and chicken. The meats pair with corn bread and coleslaw. Overall great experience and will come back again if in the state. read more

Let me tell ya ... I'm from Texas. We've got a LOT of great craft beer in Texas. Personally, I've been a huge fan of Revolver in Granbury since they opened and would count Revolver my favorite brewery. ... until I visited Avery. My buddy and I were in Boulder for a concert, and decided to get lunch at Avery and try a few brews. We were tired and hungry after an early flight. We were greeted with enthusiasm, went to the bar to grab a beer, and self-toured the brewery. Our table was ready quickly. We sat down and had flights to try as many beers as possible. I had NINE and every single beer I tried was amazing. The flavors were rich, each was smooth and easy drinking (even the stouts: they have plenty of good ones!), and I couldn't believe just how unique each brew was! My favorites were the barrel-aged stouts (there were a handful), and my friend's favorite was Ellie's Brown Ale. The food was really great too. I had the pulled pork sandwich and fries; exactly what I wanted out of that dish. I'd give the food 5 stars as well, but the highlight was definitely the beer. The thing that sets this place apart, other than excellent beer, is the staff. A manager offered us an extra flight sampling for free because we wanted to try so many of the different brews. And Erin, who welcomed us to Colorado and helped us our entire visit, gave us a six-pack as we left as a "thank you" for coming. Her knowledge of the beers was excellent and she really made the visit special and helped us feel at home. I don't think I'll ever travel to the Denver area again without visiting Avery. It is now, bar none, my favorite brewery in the country; and that pains me to say because I love Texas beer! But Avery stands out. It's incredible. read more

Avery was a great place. It was fun and had awesome food. Unfortunately, the vibe has changed. They've raised their prices, which I do understand in the current climate. In this case the increase is absurdly high and the food quality and quantity is terrible. After a recent visit, we had issues with both bad service and bad food, I reached out with my feedback. I never got an email or call back. Lastly, my kids went to play the corn hole game and the staff required parents to use an ID as collateral. Come on. They are bean bags. read more

Let me start my review by saying that I don't drink, so I can't speak to the beer selection here. But the people in my group loved the beer, so I'll take their word for it! My husband has always liked Avery beer when we lived in CA, so he was very happy to be able to visit the brewery and taste the beers they had. I can speak to the food which was very good! Everyone at my table enjoyed the options they selected! The menu isn't too big, but everyone was able to find something to order. I got an orange peel + cardamom stout and, as someone who usually claims to not like beer much, LOVED IT and still remember its dynamic flavor combination! Not only was the tour, engaging and enlightening, but also very informative by our tour guide and server, Joey Rain. His attention to detail as well as answering all of our inquisitive questions was fantastic. They always have a great selection of beers (something for everyone) and their food is phenomenal! This place looked promising when we checked out the taplist. But when we came, there wasn't as much hazy IPAs and they were out of the the PB & J stout. I got to try the Hazyish IPA (not that good), White Rascal Belgian Style White Ale (good), Skateboard Hotshot (too bitter), Bon-Bon Cerise, Rocky Mountain Olson's. The last two were stout aged in bourbon barrels. Not my kind of taste. Way too strong. We also ordered fries and the beet with kale dish. Service was good. Ok, but nothing to rave about. Amazing, top to bottom. Customer service was solid, everyone was super friendly. Place is clean with a good amount of space. Theres outdoor seating with misting for the hot days. We got the sticky ribs with the mac and cheese and it was soooooooooo good. Beer wise i dont think there's a single bad one. I got a flight with the little rascal, ellie's brown and latte on my mind (limited edition). Im not usually a stout/dark beer person and those really didnit for me. This is a tough one to review. Their main product, the one that really matters - Beer - is amazing. They are truly amazing crafters that produce quality beers no matter what your favorite style is. Hands down, one of my favorite ever. But no matter how much I love their beer, its hard to get past that price tag. Seriously, I understand needing to make money, but the markup is pretty ridiculous. The same goes for their food - it is absolutely delicious - but entrees are $15-$36. The pricing makes Avery somewhere one can only afford on special occasions rather than an everyday brewhouse. Finally, during my most recent experience here I received the worst service. So very slow and we only saw him twice in the 2 hours we were there. However, I hate to judge the location on this as it was probably just a bad server. Chances are you'll get someone better if you go! TLDR: Definitely check it out, but go on a month you have some extra play money! read more

I'm not a drinker but I have been to their establishment many times for after business gatherings with my co-workers and have enjoyed the experience. I have been told the beverages were of quality and the appetizers were tasty though a tad dry for my likings. Pricing was typical of what you'd expect from a brewery (slightly overpriced). Did a mini brew tour with a girlfriend and Avery turned out to be my favorite! I had tried the Vanilla Bean Stout in a bottle when I was in Hawaii, and while I liked it a bit, I wasn't dying to go to Avery because of it. But Avery came highly recommended from my beer associates, so I gave it a go. Ended up with Tweak, a Bourbon Barrel Aged stout @ 17.5%! I'm not gonna lie - I'm used to drinking 11-13%'ers, but this was a whole new ballgame! It was quite delicious, and I sipped it as one would a fine cognac, while I ate some cheese board thing I think. We snagged outside seating at the cut-through window bar (all outside seating is first come, first served), and it was just a super lovely evening. The waitstaff was really friendly, as was the bartender...if I lived here this would be a weekly meeting spot with friends! read more

I assumed this place was well rated for their beer & ambience, but they surprised my by having amazing food as well. Ambience: We grabbed a seat inside to avoid the wait (and sun exposure) post hike. The outdoor seating was really popping and seems like a great place to hang out. Food: Wow. I ordered the Lamb Sammy which was really good (one of the best sandwiches I've had -- way better than what I expected from a brewery). My boyfriend really liked his Meat Meat Meat as well. Our stomachs were satisfied but our mouths were not so we added an order of Fish & Chips. Super light and crispy. The fries, which I also got with my sandwich, were amazing as well. read more

This place is okay. It's not your normal brewery vibe. Not the chill relaxed atmosphere you'll find at most breweries. It is a big place and includes a restaurant which is nice. We didn't try the food but sampled quite a few beers. I enjoyed the Avery IPA but it too is just an average IPA, nothing special. It's nice they have a self tour and you can see the whole process. Place is clean and well kept inside and out. Worth a visit but now since I've had mine I'll prob opt for somewhere else next trip. read more

I'm from the DFW area and I've been looking forward to visiting Avery for some time now...and it didn't disappoint! The food was fantastic (I had the beer-battered fish) and some of the best food I've experienced at a brewery. I'm an IPA fan and their Hopfreaks was interesting. West coast ipa with some hazy hops included which made for a very nice beer. My only disappointment was they did not have Maharaja on tap...lol. But that's ok I got a six pack to take back! Excellent beers in a great outdoors space with fast service and pretty decent food. Came here on a Sunday afternoon in the fall and loved the fact that they do 5 oz pours, so you can try a wide variety of beers without getting overfull. The stampede lager was quite good, just a nice "standard" beer, and also really enjoyed their more specialized draughts e.g., Dionysian, etc. Gumbo was really solid, chockfull of stuff (e.g. sausage, etc.), balanced flavors without being too spicy, served with white rice and cornbread. Beets were tasty as well although the garlic fries could've used both more cooktime and more garlic. read more

Avery is so popular that finding seating can be tough. The outdoor seats are catch as catch can so I suggest trying there; that's what we did. You can order food outside as well. We demolished our lunches (the beer helped) but I must admit that I do not remember what we had. We hit up a lot of breweries that day.... I can say though that I remember the food being pretty good. Also, like most breweries, I preferred the limited availability beers (i.e., seasonals and one-offs). I definitely recommend visiting Avery, especially if you have not been there before! read more
