Saw this place was busy so decided to stop the previous day so decided to stop by for a try. Colleagues got the buffet while I chose the brisket tacos. Price for buffet was $30 and didn't have a huge selection, while 2 brisket tacos came out at $16 a piece. While generously filled thought the price overall was a little steep but for location I can see why as it near a convention center and less than a mile away from the capital. I went to Austin Taco Project this weekend with friends. We were in town visiting from Dallas and wanted good tacos. We went to the 6th street area and saw a small taco stand. I got a quesadilla and my friends got tacos. They weren't happy with the tacos so I told them we should check out Austin Taco Project. We arrived at Austin Taco Project. We were quickly seated. The waitress was nice and attentive. The decor was modern and funky. We all wanted to try their tacos since that's what this place is popular for. We went with the safe choice of chicken tacos. I must say that I really liked the Pollo tacos. The chicken meat was tasty, well seasoned, and tender. The Pollo taco was very good. My friend got the beef taco and didn't like it. The beef meat was greasy and she said it didn't taste good. You get two tacos $7.25. I felt it was a decent value for two delicious chicken tacos! read more

Please do not blame the servers! Breakfast buffet is wonderful. Food is fantastic. They have overstuffed tacos that are not like anything I've experienced bursting with flavor and fresh ingredients. Service at lunch the kitchen cannot handle things when they get slammed. Today a table that arrived and ordered after me got and consumed their starters and received and halfway consumed their tacos before I received my order that was just tacos. My friend and I were on the quest to find some tacos close to our hotel. Funny enough, after roaming around downtown we found this place - I didn't even realize it was part of the Hilton but it was cool. Very inviting and friendly staff, clean and casual place to just chill. Who doesn't love tacos and beer? We got some of the tater tots for an appetizer - they were topped with an egg and some brisket. It was pretty good - but I could've sworn the menu said that it has cheese curds too.. definitely wasn't on there. Still good nonetheless. If you've never been here - I would best describe it as a fusion taco joint - not authentic mexican by any means. Tried the brisket taco - because well, in Texas you gotta get some brisket one way or another. Their spicy chicken bao is an asian take on a taco - it's sandwiched between a bao and not a tortilla - the chicken has a nice spicy kick to it and it has some picked almost kimchi like vegetables on it. Came to Austin Taco Project on a Wednesday night following an event across the street. The event gave attendees a free taco coupon for ATP, which I assume the restaurant was aware of, but it did not seem like they were prepared for the sudden influx of people. The service was ok given the situation albeit slow. We were there about 1.5 hours for what could have been a 45 minute meal. We all got battered fish tacos price at $14 for 2 and I rate them a 3/5. The batter wasn't what we were expecting and there could have been more sauce. Our free tacos were the tiny brisket tacos which were really tasty. The queso was really good but I'm not sure I'd pay $15 for it (it was free from the event coordinator). Just a heads up, it's more of a Chile con queso smoky flavor so definitely don't pay for it if that's not your thing. They were out of aguas frescas which two of us wanted to order so we got Mexican cokes instead. The bar area looked nice and there were people playing games. Not sure if I would come back unless I had a reason to, but if you're staying at the Hilton or in the area its a nice option and I assume happy hour prices are better. read more

This place has an incredible mix of ingredients in its various tacos: kimchi, coffee indused brisket, pork belly, octopus and its a constantly evolving menu. And the bar? Hand mixed, infused and crafted drinks are awesome. Had the Putine -- or at least their spin on it -- and it was outstanding! Tots instead of fries. Brisket. Poblano gravy. And, of course, egg on top. Brilliantly delicious. The drinks are amazing. We had the pleasure of the bar manager showing us how they aged, infused and made ingredients for every drink. There is a perennial favorite that uses "seafoam". The bar manager let us try some -- EXACTLY like tasting ocean water. It mingles with citrus flavors when on its drink. I had a bourbon based drink that was blended and aged in their own oak that had incredible smoky, earthy, spice flavor. They also have a very unique craft brew list here with flights that are worth your while. TIP: locals park in Hilton garage and parking will be validated here. read more

Ordered the barbecue mini tacos to-go. The "white barbecue sauce" was just some type of white cream, the taco was missing the barbecue sauce aspect. The tacos felt thrown together, and were all over the place when I opened the box - after going up an elevator! The dessert option of a sweet potato and goat cheese cheesecake was the best option, but still didn't end up getting it. Some sort of ice cream or more classic dessert dish would be nice. Really enjoyed the food and drinks here on my recent trip to Austin. I haven't been to Austin in over 12 years so it was nice to get back downtown and see what's changed and what's not. On a quiet Thursday night, stopped in to a relatively empty house. Guessing given it was a weekday, on a rather chilly night for Austin, and with 6th street so close by - that's why it was so quiet. To our benefit though, as we got great service. My prickly pear margarita was perfectly balanced, great drink to end my night on. For food, started with the guacamole, fried brussel sprouts, and for my main I got the al pastor tacos. Let me tell you, those brussel sprouts are were it's at! They were perfect, the flavor was outstanding. The soy glaze that's on top is delicious. While the guacamole itself was great, the chips were a total let down. For a taco joint, you'd think they'd fry up some fresh chips - these were sadly not - but good enough to get that guac to the mouth. My al pastor tacos were pretty good, but I would have loved a little more char on the pork. The pineapple was a refreshing topping, just enough not to be overwhelming. Again, service was great, not too intrusive and at a good pace. Def. look forward to coming back here when I return in March! read more

While the food didn't blow me away, it's great that they're open late. They have a trendy, colorful decor and very nice staff that were friendly and attentive. A friend and I split a bunch of things off their bar snack menu. The deviled eggs with pickled mustard seeds and bacon were fine, but the mustard seed was a weird addition that managed to completely mask the bacon. The carnitas tacos were bland, couldn't taste the salsa verde. The Chimichurri tacos were better, the steak was nice, but again the flavor was mellow at best. The tots absolutely stole the show though, this is what you should order. Tater tots covered in fried cheese curds, poblano gravy, and a sunny side up egg. You would never know that this was inside the Hyatt hotel, but it is! And it's pretty darn cute. It's divided into two sections - the bar and seated. Both of which will get you a waiter. We opted for the bar area and were super comfortable. Our waiter was amazing and everything you'd want in a waiter. Unfortunately his name escapes me, but he was pretty darn fabulous. Quick, efficient, even taking off a drink that never arrived (totally not his fault) yet still giving the drink to our friend in the end. The tacos at this place were all over the map - and I like it like that! A little different, a little strange, but still familiar. I ordered the Umami Taco which was both vegan and gluten free (not that it matters to me) but I do love anything mushroom. The waiter indicated it was salty and suggested I add avocado to cut the salt. He was so right! I do love me some salty things but the avocado was exactly what was needed - and some lime! I also ordered the deviled eggs . Why? Because I always order deviled eggs. And they didn't disappoint! A great treat on a hot day! Cocktails were splendid and on point. This place is technically part of the Hilton hotel, and food was mediocre at best. I appreciate the nice decor but the restaurant looks closed from the outside due to all the art and graphics covering the walls and windows. The waitress we had was very rude and did not seem like she enjoyed her job. My group of 4 girls ended up ordering some tots for appetizer and doubles of 2 different types of tacos. Ron U. worked his magic to put together this special UYE event at The Austin Taco Project. We were greeted genuinely and enthusiastically by management and led out to the magnificent and expansive patio where our jovial group could get loud and bold. Our servers, Rachel and Travis were absolutely amazing and didn't wind up in a mental institution after dealing with us. When one pulls up Austin Taco Project on Yelp, it's clearly noted, 'Tapas/Small plates'. My first taco was The Bulgolgi and it had to be tiniest of all the small plate tacos but it was montrous in flavor, ribeye, kimchi, peanuts, cilantro on a steamed bun. Next I ordered a bar snack, the North Pacific Poke, salmon, lotus root, cucumber sesame seed and daikon radish. I recommend using a fork with this 'snack', although very tasty, it can be a bit messy using one's fingers. The Casa Blanca was by far my favorite taco, Moroccan spiced lamb, red onion, radish, harissa, labneh on a flatbread. I also was privileged to sample the Green Chorizo Meatball, poblano gravy, queso fresco, The Poutine, ribeye cap barbacoa, tater tots, fried cheese curd, pablano gravy, sunny side up egg, and last but certainly not the least, The Charcoal Wings, brined, smoked, grilled, with blueberry ghost pepper. The only disappointment was that the house margaritas were a tad bit on the weak side however the weakness allowed me to partake of more, for digestive purposes only. This is a great Tapas bar to meet for Happy Hour and don't forget to check-in on Yelp and redeem your buy 'one taco and get one free'. Was so excited to try this place out. We sat at the bar and ordered cocktails and food. For my drink I chose Lavender Lemonade cocktail on tap.....big mistake. It was weak and not that great. As for the food, well we only got to try the deviled eggs, because after waiting 75 minutes for tacos we asked the bartender to bring us our check. The eggs were ehh, I would not recommend ordering them. They were rubbery and the bacon tasted like it came from a bag. Although we did not get to try their tacos, we did get to see them. The couple next to us at the bar (that ordered 20 minutes after us) got their tacos and they were teeny tiny little street tacos. So small they had to put them on a fancy stand to make them look cool. They even mentioned to us "hey didn't you all order some tacos before us?". Tip: do not sit at the bar is you are over 5 feet tall and/or weight more than 110 pounds...because you will NOT fit on their super trendy-miniature bar stools. They look good though. I called a few days later to talk to the Manager about our experience. He was apologetic and asked me to please try them out again. Great menu of flavors from around the world. They do a great job of incorporating ingredients to make your taco fresh and interesting! A great place for sharing plates. Servers are great and can tell you all about the menu. Drinks- beer flights and you must try the Paloma!! The Mango margs you couldn't taste much of the alcohol. Wings- get without the blueberry ghostpepper sauce and you can try a their different sauces Mexican corn- elotes style Tacos- tried pretty much one of each and none disappointed! I have frequented the establishment several times now over the last year, and all I can say is that the service couldn't get much worse. The food is honestly very good, really, the Bat City Burrito is just WONDERFUL and even the fries are delicious! That being said, I timed how long it took to get a refill of water and got to 37 minutes before being checked in on by a completely different server. My original server took my order and disappeared, when I asked the new server, all she had to say was, "I'm sorry, it's slow so I'm sure she was eager to leave." As if that is even CLOSE to the right response. Service has ALWAYS been slow here but this was just absurd. The last time I was here a vagrant was having a drug-induced episode in the restaurant, but this tops the cake. If the food weren't so good I would give this place a one-star BUT the food makes up for it a little bit. Needless to say, after speaking pretty highly of this place for quite some time now, I will NEVER eat here again and I will discourage anyone else from doing so also. Management, I hope you're reading this, ALL of your servers and hosts are lazy. They sit on their phones and gossip in plain sight of customers and leave them out to dry.
