Started off with embered onion dip, esquite corn, deviled eggs for starters and my FIL ordered the ceviche of the day. We ordered pollo tacos and 2 orders of the fish tacos sans breading. Excited to check out this place, pics online looked good. We ended our meal with stuffed churros. The embered onion esquite and deviled eggs were both good, the fish wasn't bad, a bit on the bland side but better with some of the house made salsas. The pollo is mostly white meat but somewhat pulled meat on the tacos were good for my FIL. My husband enjoyed the fish tacos. My FIL enjoyed his ceviche but wasn't aware that it was made with raw fish and shrimp until halfway through the dish. My husband didn't find the ghost pepper sauce hot much. Service was so-so, not super warm or friendly and left dirty dishes out a bit too long. Took my husband and mine's empty pile of dishes but left my fil's dirty dishes. The churros were just okay, not so special and lacked the chewiness texture a good churro should have to me. Hardly much caramel or creme brûlée inside either. Ugh WHY does this place call itself a taco project?It made me think of something amazing and cool, different and very Austin. What we got was a sad looking, poorly lit bar/ restaurant at the Hilton, terrible service and sub par food. Oh - add sporadic live music on a terrible music system to this mix! We did - still took her about 5 min to seat us, because we were a tad bit early. This is when servers were just loitering around and the place was 70% empty. We were seated at a table on the far right, took more than 10 min for the server to acknowledge us. Idk if the server was new - he had no beer recommendations when I asked for a light local Austin brew. He recommended Blue Moon.. okay, thank you! He didn't know what the fish in the ceviche was - he "guessed" it was halibut, but it turned out to be Tuna of course. Both our beers were average, nothing to write home about. We started with the chicken wings. Oversold and undelivered through and through. The wings were over sauced, had no flavor. Their "peanut" gremolata was basically a sprinkling of stale peanuts (made for a terrible chewy texture) over the wings. Despite being over sauced, the wings themselves had zero flavor, and no salt. We then had the ceviche. While the flavor was delicious, there was maybe 4 spoonfuls of ceviche stuffed inside half of an avocado. Absolutely not worth the money we paid. Finally the curry chicken tacos. These were decent - the chicken tasted slow cooked and had a good kick to it. Will I be back? Not in this life. The bachelorette let "slip" through about 2-3 weeks of tagging me in Taco Memes on IG, before I decided that Austin Taco Project was THE ONE! Top it all off - the service was great, the bartenders were super sweet and so patient with our indecisive group, and they made planning this dinner completely worry free. Wtf?! Over-priced and when the taco came out, it wasn't even good! They were small, the barbacoa was dry and it was no bueno! They probably need to rethink this taco project and how it is extremely overpriced and not good. I think I had better barbacoa at Chipotle. The deviled eggs were ok with their tomatillo sauce on top. The place is attached to the Hilton, but it can also easily be identified as a completely separate place. It was empty on a Thursday night. My friend and I were seated immediately in the bar area. Ribs - Fall of the bone goodness. Not too salty either. Charcoal Wings - Sauce is pretty thick and it's probably because of the peanut. The spiciness will definitely creep up on you! I was only in Austin for a day, staying downtown, and I found myself in a terrible predicament. Which one of all the amazing Austin restaurants should I go to? To make it easier I narrowed it down tacos. With the help of Yelp, Austin Taco Project rose to the top of the list. I was in no way disappointed. Turns out, I got lucky because it was Taco Tuesday which meant a handful of margs and tacos were discounted and it just so happened that I was there for tacos and margs! Through the advice of my yelp friends, I got the tots, pollo and El Pastor. The tots are an interesting dish and quite possibly one of the tastiest combinations of food on a plate that I've ever had. The tacos were also amazing. As you can see my picture, the El Pastor disappeared before I had time yo take picture of it. I would definitely recommend ATP if you are just visiting or even if you are lucky enough to live close to this place full time. The only problem I see is that the next time I'm in Austin, I'll have to try some place else because there are so many delicious restaurants. read more

Horrible service. I'm staying at Hilton and wanted to try this place since it's inside the hotel. A couple of days ago, I wanted to place a to go order for breakfast. I called countless times for over two hours (no joke) and was either placed on hold or sent to voicemail but no one ever assisted in placing my order. So that day was shot and I went elsewhere. I tried placing another to go order this morning and called over 40 times, literally! But once again no luck. So I decided to stop by in person on my way to work. (If you're wondering why i kept trying it's bc the hotel offered food credit to be used at the restaurant.) I advised the male host that I attempted to call and even showed him the call history on my phone and that no one ever answered the phone. He claimed he just arrived at work and couldn't explain why there was no answer. He was not sympathetic one bit. I proceeded to place an a order for the açaí bowl to which he responded that they couldn't serve it since it was no longer breakfast time. Mind you, I had attempted to place my order by calling before breakfast ended and I wanted to show him my call history before 11:00 am but he could have cared less. So I proceeded to ask for the manager. (My apologizes for acting like a "Karen" here but I felt justified.) While waiting for the manager, I dialed the restaurant again to test if they would answer since the restaurant was not busy. The phone is next to the host's stand where I was standing and I noticed that the calls were not being answered. The ringer was off but the phone would light up. The phone also reported 117 missed calls! Wth?! That's a lot of business they're losing from potential customers that want to place food orders. Richard, the manager, just added fuel to the fire. I waited nearly ten minutes for him. When he finally surfaced from the back I explained the situation. He was very cold, not apologetic and just asked me if the açaí bowl was all I wanted. When I answered in the affirmative he said "ok" and walked off. Never said it'll be right out and never apologized. So rude and unprofessional and so disappointing coming from management. I eventually received my order but not an apology. The food prices are also excessive. Can get much better tacos at much lower prices elsewhere with much better customer service. read more

This place is not considerate of their customers. We left after we came in and we're not served menus for 10 minutes as sitting down. When we walked in we heard sit down from some guy at the bar then the hostess came around the corner mentioned us moving and we shared that we were told to sit. Walked in when there was no line and the hostess was a bit overwhelmed. There were several empty tables, but none of them were cleaned. We had drinks from the hotel and was told we couldn't have them in the restaurant, finished our drinks while we waited for someone to clean off a table for us. There is outside seating, but it was a bit too hot that day. Waited a bit for someone to take our order, when we ordered our food people who came in after us already had their food. Ordered the Shrimp Tacos, which were really good and they didn't skimp on the shrimp. When I asked for our check as soon as we got our food, we were given it right away, but waited a bit for someone to ring us up. All the makings for a great taco spot, but somehow missed the mark. Came in at around 6:30pm on Monday evening, restaurant was dead, there were only 3 other tables and several servers. You would assume that service would be on point. She was attentive initially, but it got gradually worse. The menu items sound great, but each and every thing tried left something to be desired Tots - Menu states that it comes with carne asada, ours did not. There was not enough gravy to cover the tots. Cheese curds were overcooked and very dark brown. The sunny side up egg was overcooked. The whole point of a sunny side up is that yolk running all over the dish Elote - Supposed to feature a charred corn. Firstly, the corn was cold, and tasted like it was from a can or frozen bag. There was no seasoning. It was a beautifully composed dish, but lacked in flavor. Needed some vibance, perhaps some lime juice or spice to liven it up. The flavor profile was very flat. The tacos..... ALL of the tortillas were cold and dry, should have been warmed on a grill/flat top Carne Asada Fries - First off, not sure why seasoned french fries go on a carne asada, but ok, I'll go with it....The carne was a bit on the tough & dry side, and the candied citrus was not present, however we did get orange zest that was not washed and had pith so it had a bitter aftertaste. The cream foam - didn't really do much in my opinion Suggestion as to what's lacking - something fresh, citrus, onion/cilantro as a traditional carne asada would Curry Shirmp Bao - Shrimp had a decent flavor, but could have been more prominent. Papaya salad was good, but cut much too thick. Components themselves did not work, as a whole bite, it was fine, but needed more basil and some lime Brisket - Meat was tender, but flavorless. Fresh cabbage was literally just that; not treated in any way, just shredded and thrown on. Spiced pineapple relish sounds amazing, but I did not get that. Was I got was what looked and tasted like canned pineapple chunks. After that round of tacos, the server decided to pull up with a bill. We did not ask for it, perhaps we wanted to try some other sub-par tacos, or maybe even a dessert, but the opportunity was not given. I am a Chef, I am a restauranteur, I live for superior customer service. If someone shuts it down, I will either cause a scene, or just walk the heck out. I chose the high road cuz I was on vacay and didn't want to ruin the vibe. One word: MEH. There is no other way to summarize my experience here - the tacos are MEH. Meh.com. It appears they have a rotating menu of sorts - I came after seeing rave reviews and pictures of bulgogi tacos, but alas they did not have bulgogi tacos or any of the other interesting flavors I read about. What we got: - Al Pastor Taco (somehow, some way each bite got progressively worse. Is this even possible?? it starts off decent and then by the time you get to your second taco, you just end up feeling very displeased) - Whatataco (my thoughts are that this is inspired by whataburger. too salty, nothing special, but maybe I should have known better) - Fried Chicken Bao (I was curious, but we all know that curiosity killed the cat. It was drenched in too much sauce, very sad asian-fusion-esque "taco") - Some type of dark pecan beer (The only beer on the menu brewed in Austin, so naturally we got it. Word of advice: ask for a sample before ordering - this was no bueno). If you come, just make sure you don't get any of the above - you have been warned. Saving Grace: - Bread Pudding (made out of donuts! and you can definitely taste the donuts). Problem is they put too much caramel on this - ask to get caramel on the side. This is one of those super weird cases where I would have given this restaurant five stars if I had judged on my first experience. But it was so good that I actually went back again for a second night, and my second experience was not as successful. So four stars is where I netted out. This is the taco bar that is attached to/in the lobby of the Hilton Austin. I honestly don't even like tacos that much. But I was hungry, bordering on hangry, after getting into town at about 9 p.m. So I stopped in and sat at the bar for a late dinner. There are a number of tacos all a la carte, so you literally just order what you want by the taco. I ordered the deviled eggs appetizer, which comes with four egg halves (two eggs total) topped with little bacon bits and were actually pretty awesome. Then I had a bulgogi taco and a barbacoa taco. Each was totally unique. The barbacoa taco came with really nice thinly sliced and pickled carrots plus mustard seed and some other awesome stuff on a corn tortilla. The bulgogi taco came in one of those Asian style steamed buns and was really awesome. They were both really delicious and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The bartender, Bryan, turns out to also be from Minnesota, so shout out to my fellow Minnesotan, who provided me with excellent service! I returned the following night because I could not find something better to eat near my hotel and I had those tacos on my mind. I ordered the exact same thing. But this time the bulgogi taco was so salty that I couldn't eat half of it. I told my waitress and did tell her it was not a big deal and that I just wanted to let the kitchen know. She apologized, but then she charged me for the taco, which I have to say I was a bit surprised by. So in all, two dining experiences, one stellar and one just OK. Four stars it is. I met some peeps here for Alcohol Aficionados' UYE. My review is rolling out a tad late, but, I will agree with everyone else as to this being a great tapas place with some really tasty bites. All the staff were really nice and pleasant and our two servers were spot on. I ate like a pig and had no remorse about it. Presentation and quality were right on par. I ordered a order of deviled eggs from the apps menu. The eggs were cage free and made with bacon, habanero mustard seed and chervil. BAM! Loved them so much I ordered another order. I was nice and shared with those around me. Everyone really liked them. Next I ordered the North Pacific Poke. Salmon, lotus root, cucumber sesame seed, daikon radish!! Hell yeah!! You get two small bites per order and they were so good I ordered two more orders! Eight bucks per order, so watch out it can add up quickly here. I tried someone's meaty balls in green sauce and really enjoyed them. Very tasty balls. Next, I hit up the tacos themselves. My first order was the Oc-thai-pus, shaved thai octopus, cashew green papaya salad, iceberg. Yummy and delicious. I really like this one. Second order was the Dubai, chicken tikka, green curry raita pickled grapes, red onion saffron tortilla. Another solid winner and I highly recommend. I was lucky enough to get to try a couple bites of someone else's Casa Blanca, lehmucan (Moroccan spiced lamb), red onion, radish, harissa, labneh, flatbread. WOWZER!!! All the tacos I had were freaking amazing! I couldn't let the evening close without trying the charcoal wings and I'm so glad I did. The wings are brined, smoked, grilled choice of: Valentina's hot sauce or blueberry ghost pepper. I chose the latter. The wings deserve a spotlight. They were done perfectly. I could go here and be happy with just eating the wings, but, temptation would lead me astray. I really enjoyed my experience at ATP and will definitely return. Prices tend to be a bit steep, but, it is downtown. On the flip side the quality is definitely there, but, they should reconsider moving the Bulgogi tacos over to the apps side of the menu. The tacos come two to an order, but I wanted to try 3 individual tacos, so they did half orders for me. I love a good variety! They one on the left was phenomenal.
