I came to Austin for a bachelorette party last weekend. We stayed at the Hilton and on our last night, feeling tired and hungry, decided to grab dinner here instead of going out. Our group had 8 and we were seated right away. The place was busy but in no way overly crowded for a Saturday night! First and foremost, let me say, our server was GREAT. I wish I could remember his name.... he was so friendly, informative, and attentive. So lets get down to the food. All of us shared a couple of the beer cheese quesos and the street corn. The street corn was absolutely amazing, the queso I would definitely pass on next time. I love pretty much any kind of melted cheese (who doesn't?) but this one fell short for me. The beer taste was fine but the queso itself was gritty, which was not my preference. For dinner everyone ordered a bunch of different tacos. They have so many different kinds. I really love that they have some classics as well as some new age tacos that you don't find everywhere. I myself went basic and ordered the chicken tacos with a side of avocado on them. My husband and I just came here for supper while staying at the Hilton. Wow! Totally blown away! The drinks and tacos were amazing. We had the ribs to start and were wishing we ordered two because they were unreal. Had the Carnita and Brisket tacos and they were just as great. Best part? Our server Robert. We stopped in here for dinner. It is a good sized place with a few seating areas. My only issue with the place was that the live music was too loud. Other than that it was a good experience. I ordered the Poutine and a Whatataco. The poutine was very good. Their's consists of ribeye cap barbacoa, tater tots, fried cheese curd, pablano gravy and a sunny side up egg. I really enjoyed each bit. The flavors came together nicely and the portion was manageable. The taco was also good. I actually find Whataburger extraordinarily over rated. This taco, however, is much better than the burger. The beef comes topped with gov't cheese, sweet onion, b&b pickles and the special sauce. I only needed one because of the poutine. If I was just getting tacos I would likely get three. I liked that they sell them individually so if you want to you can try a few. read more

This is one of the best hotel restaurant/bars I have ever been to, and we travel a lot. They have daily cocktail specials with strong drinks for $6 after 6:00. We also had some tacos late one night. First of all, you cannot enter this place from 4th street. You have to go into the hotel, and enter through there. We stood outside, like morons, waiting until exactly 4 pm so we could go inside, but then the door was still locked. Once inside, we were greeted by an annoyed waitress. Despite what I said about us waiting outside, we were not the first patrons in the place. There were quite a few small groups that had clearly already been sitting there for a bit. We ordered a round of beers, waited a long time for them. They were out of multiple beers my boyfriend attempted to order. They were out of pierogis. The only thing she warned us about beforehand was that they were out of beer cheese, which I don't even see on the menu. On to the tacos! We ordered avocado, chair siu tofu, and fried chicken bao. They are way overpriced, but it's nice that the tortillas are clearly made in-house. The avocado was delicious and I wish we had ordered a bunch of those because the other two were just meh. The only reason we even ordered the bao was to settle a bet -- I knew it wasn't going to be an actual taco. For a place that calls itself the "Taco Project", they sure did not have a whole lot of taco selections. And the service was terrible, she did not smile once, until giving us the bill. Happy we were leaving, I suppose. But I still give this place 2 stars, it made me appreciate where I live... any place you find tacos in Chicago, is a better place than this place. Had a really bad experience here. My wife was served a rancid pastor taco. From working in food and beverage for over 20 years you know that smell when stuff sours or turns bad and I almost got sick when I smelled it. The chef came out to the table and tried to defend it by saying he made it himself that morning. I asked him to take a bite and tell me that it was good and he refused saying he looked at it and it was fine. Then they dropped the check and they didn't even take the bad dish off the bill. I mentioned my Hilton Honers and asked to speak to the food and beverage director then all of a sudden the meal gets comped and the manager on duty comes out saying the F&B director was off and that he took care of everything. This place has a nice and modern decor with lots of concrete and wood everywhere it looks good. The staff and waiters do not know service or entertainment. They had a guy playing extremely loud music in a very non acoustic room which made good music sound bad. I honestly was SOOO excited to eat at this restaurant. I had looked at the menu earlier on my flight from Baltimore. Pre planned everything I wanted to try. Was super excited to put on comfy clothes and eat and drink some really tasty stuff. The staff treated me as if I wasn't even there to spend my money. The hostess was rude when my coworker and I asked to be seated at a table for 2. She walked away to check available tables, another employee walked over and asked what we wanted, when we said we'd like a table for 2 we were told it was bar seating only. The hostess walked back over and asked what we wanted, as if she wasnt JUST speaking to us. When we stated again that wed like a table she said she didn't know what we wanted. We asked about a table in the bar area. She said we could sit there and then stood holding 1 single plate as if she really didn't want to clean it for us. We moved to the bar. Stood patiently to be addressed. The bartender, after about 5 minutes, asked if we wanted to do a to-go, when we said we wanted to sit and eat and have a drink, she respond like I was attacking her and went to get the manager. The manager then walked over and asked what we wanted. We again stated that we wanted to sit and eat and drink, he gave a smirk and said he thought we wanted a to-go and that's why he came over and to give him a minute to clean. Another set of women were at the bar and offered us their seats, but when the bartender and manager were rude, all 4 of us walked out. The variety was fun, and I felt the tacos were more flavorful. The atmosphere wasn't as unique, it's a large venue in a hotel so felt a little less personable. But one of the highlights was the poke taco appetizer. Instead of a tortilla, the whole thing is wrapped in a pickled radish. How cute is that?? Mind you it must have been during their busy time, I believe there were 5 tables seated in their entire resertaunt. Any more tables must be a complete disaster, not sure they would be able to handle such traffic. Upon leaving I saw management a few feet away from where we were sitting, I told them about waiting for over 15 minutes. Did they offer any apologies or to remedy the exuberant wait? Wake Up taco was pretty good, but none of the flavors really stood out for some reason. It was good brisket, and a bit of crema as the strong notes, but unfortunately it wasn't spicy. Good Morning Vietnam was my favorite taco here, and it is only $4. All of the ingredients came together perfectly, the flavor of the fresno peppers on the taco was fantastic (They went with a sweet n spicy variety of pickling). It actually had a bit of noticeable spice, but nothing crazy compared to what I've had. $2 Whatataco and Al Pastor on Tuesdays is a major plus! Both of these tacos were pretty good, but the Whatataco blew my mind with how well it emulated Whataburger. Definitely a taco you have to try at least once. Great place, great location, free parking. I want to say the food is good. I had the pancakes and other sides and enjoyed the food. My problem with the restaurant is the service wasn't there. I came in the morning for breakfast since I was staying at the Hilton, I thought it might be a quick meal before my appointment. I was seated and given water, and that's when the waiting started. I didn't talk to my server for 10 minutes. I sat there with an empty water glass watching others look around dazed for the server. When he showed up, he asked if I wanted a coffee or juice, when I told him orange juice, he took off again not wanting to take my order. When he came back with the juice, he told me he would be back for my order. I waited around for 10 minutes staring at the infomercial being played on the TVs. Another group of people grabbed the server and told him that he hasn't seen the since they were sat 10 minutes ago. The same server took their order and disappeared. I sat around for another 10 minutes before he showed up again. I placed my order to go (not what I wanted), and he apologized for the long wait. I sat around for another 10 minutes before I had enough. I went to the hostess and told him to charge me for the orange juice so I can go. He looked confused and got my server, and once again he vanished for minutes as they didn't want to charge my card even though I was stressing I needed to leave. My server showed up with the food, and I paid and quickly dashed off. I spent an hour in the restaurant and didn't get food. I had a glass of orange juice and a glass of water. They never filled the water glass while I was there. There was no apology for the lack of service. I truly understand being busy, and being in the "weeds", but not being acknowledged for long periods of time is unacceptable. read more

They were so mediocre that the flavor of the protein they were original was sucked dry?? For desert had the Blood Orange Tres leche and it was okay. LASTLY, super pricey for what we got totally not worth it. Save $60 bucks and go to Taco Hell. On a very forced positive note: Service was good and has a good beer tap selection. DEAR OWNER of Austin Tap house if you don't want to die a Slow braised death as your Barbacoa Tacos I recommend you hire the chef from Across the street at La Chismosa Street Taco next to the Esters Follies show. After 3 times of making direct eye contact with bartender did they ask if i would like to order a drink. Much later after having put the menu down did they ask if i would like to order food. When I put my empty water glass at the edge of the bar, it means I would like it refilled. Food;. I ordered a cold dish, deviled eggs, why didn't you bring those out first instead of everything at once? Poutine, I'm sure they put some cheese curds in there somewhere, but I couldn't find them. The pork was over salted. Casa blanca taco, fat was running out of the taco, but yet the meat still tasted dry, didn't know that was physically possible. We had a group of about 15 ladies that joined us from all over Texas and they loved the food and the overall service! Thank you to Jacob Delis and his team for the amazing service that we received. They truly made my bachelorette such a success, my guest are still talking about it. Jacob and his staff were very attentive and surpassed all of our expectations. Cool little venue! I love that the place was unassuming behind these double doors - as soon as we opened them there was live music and cool lighting. Wonderful ambience. The food was also spectacular! I asked for vegetarian recommendations of the menu and there were 1 or 2 good options. But the flavors were incredible.
