The food is unique. Wife and I went there as our date night dinner while my MIL watched our baby. Expectedly we were super excited to get out and try something new. Ambiance - interesting to say the least. In our excitement to get out we overlooked the fact that it was actually in the bottom of a hotel (Marriott, I believe?) and instantly we were thinking that we should probably find another location. BUT, we thought "the place has amazing reviews - lets go ahead and give it a shot" Food - turns out the food is tasty, fresh, and timely served, with a very friendly staff! Who knew, lol. We ordered 6 tacos of different types and all had a unique profile. I would head back. read more

Tried this on a whim when at the Austin Convention Center and WOW! Torchy's has been what I judge tacos against, and this place beats them in all fronts. They have combinations I have never thought of and every one I have tried is amazing. The only downside is the price. At $5-8 per taco, and you should get 2-3, it adds up. Given the quality it is still a good deal, so it is definitely worth it if you are in the mood for a great meal. read more

I would give this place a 7/10 if that was an option Pros: - liked the ability to make a reservation online, and our table was ready when we arrived - cheap appetizers that we all enjoyed (the corn and Brussels sprouts especially) - good range of taco options - they were able to remove the nuts from the Brussels sprouts due to an allergy (but went around it in a weird way, with one server saying they were about to deliver it and to watch out because it had nuts... even though we had explicitly told them our allergies and asked if there were issues. They ended up having left them off but when we asked to have without while waiting for the dish, she implied that it was made and not going to be adjusted, which was... odd) Cons: - didn't answer their phone when I called (twice) earlier in the evening to ask about a few menu items related to allergies, meaning I had to do this at the table instead - none of the tacos we had were that impressive... or really spoke to Austin's experience in this realm. Overly experimental in a way that kind of missed the point - not a lot going on in terms of ambiance read more

I avoid hotel restaurants because they're usually overpriced and underwhelming. I read reviews here and thought I'd give it a try. My fears were confirmed. It sure looked promising. Nice decor, good live music (not too loud for talking). The menu looked good and mostly was. It had good attempts at avant-garde Tex-mex-Gringo-comfort. I had two appetizers as a dinner. They were creative and tasty but not terribly hot (heat). Tortillas took forever "because they were fresh." Fresh tortillas at an authentic Mexican place take 15 seconds on the grill. The staff looked sloppy and I even saw food delivered and a drink spilled on someone with a slow motion attempt to clean it up and not too much concern. Plus It wasn't cheap. I think it's promising but not managed or staffed well. With some tweaks it could be good. read more

I was not impressed by this restaurant. Honestly, I didn't really enjoy anything my SO or I ordered. We got a few different tacos (I believe carne asada, carnitas, and curry shrimp bao), the prickly pear margarita and the mango margarita. The tacos were just okay, and the margaritas were very strong and/or super sweet. The service was also pretty slow for what we ended up getting. We did have a good experience conversing with the party next to us though on the big open table. We also went during one of their music residencies which was really good. However, I don't think we will be back. read more

What brought me in was 1) The Yelp reviews 2) The menu which was Asian/Latin fusion. Came in and sat at the bar for dinner and ordered this grapefruit lager which was very refreshing. Unfortunately, they had ran out of barbacoa for the poutine, but the bartender offered to use the bulgogi to substitute. Although skeptical at first, wow.... the poutine here is hands down one of the greatest things I've ever eaten (top 10). Tater tots, beef, cheese and a fried egg. I ordered three tacos (Dubai, Good Morning Vietnam, Wake Up). I was originally going for the Barbacoa on Deck but as they were out of barbacoa I asked for a recommendation which the bartender made (Wake Up). I made sure to ask if any of the tacos were spicy which she said no to lol... The tacos were fantastic and some of the best I had except for the wake up... it was delicious but last I recall, ghost peppers are some of the spiciest on the Scoville scale.. I took a giant bite and within 3-5 seconds I knew what was to come. I paid the price for about 30 minutes later lol. Otherwise the food, service and environment are all great and I would highly recommend this place. read more

I LOVED this place and how it is both traditional and modernly inventive at the same time. The chimichurri tacos, elote, ribs, and brussel sprouts were fantastic. A couple of my friends had the carnitas and raved about them! Cocktails were standard. And, I would love for them to add at least 1 or 2 salad items. I needed a bit of that freshness. The customer service was AMAZING and they were so accommodating as more and more friends joined us throughout the evening. Thank you, Austin Taco Project!! Bring yourselves to LA so I can enjoy your food more! read more

Visited from Dallas, very cool restaurant interior, but very pricey. Came with a large group and we only ordered waters and one plate of tacos and the bill was already $50. We left at that point and got tacos elsewhere. Really disappointed. read more

I'll come back when I'm in Austin next. The tacos were great, though a bit greasy which soaked the tiny tortilla. They had chichirrones with tanjin which were yummy and a huge serving I had to share with strangers. Good service in Mark who was appropriately chatty to a single diner. read more

They got rid of their best Taco - It came on a bao shell was a Korean inspired taco. My hearts broken I'll come back if they bring it. Outside of that it's a good vibe kind of a quiet place secluded. Nice feel but isn't anything formal. Vibe has potential. read more

I have to say I'm disappointed but not surprised. these two little tiny tacos for $12? No kidding each one was smaller than the size of my hand. The flavor wasn't bad I suppose, like it tasted alright, and the service was quick, but it seriously was not worth the price. It was nothing special. Elotes were bland. We weren't even full afterwards so we went to In-N-Out. read more

Fantastic food, horrible service. They claimed, they were understaffed. Seemed ok to me, we counted 5 employees to 11 guest.

Early dinner at Austin Taco Project on a Saturday, no wait and I was seated pretty much immediately. I sat indoors since I am not used to the Texas humidity. It didn't take long for the server to come to take my drink order. She was super friendly. I ordered the following: *Tots (fried cheese, tots, brisket, and egg) - tots were crunchy, brisket was just right, and the egg yolk mixed with all the ingredients, it was so good. *Esquites (charred corn, cilantro, and cheese) - O-SO-GOOD!! The cheese on corn with cilantro, it was super delicious. Austin Taco Project did not disappoint! read more

This was a fun place to grab dinner. Waitress took a little while to warm up to us but was fine by the end. Drinks were okay but the Tater Tot appetizer was a-maz-ing. Highly recommend! Best. Tacos. Ever! Guys....I'm from Cali and I've had some really great tacos, I lived in the south and I've traveled the world. Best tacos bar none. Don't believe me get here try it. Food soooo good. I started with some blueberry ghost pepper wings....fire. then I went for the Whatataco, Casa Blanca, and Dubai. So much flavor...So much. Then they brought out these sauces to add as needed. Dope. Loved the vibe. Very clean joint. A real people kind of place. Sweet Caroline came on and you could here the ba ba bas from the bar to the outdoor seating area. I hope this place is in Austin next time I'm here on business. So good. They need an indoor bathroom though. But if you're staying in the hotel you're good. Nuff said, experience the greatest food in Austin now! read more

My boyfriend and I ordered the ceviche, pork tacos, and the brisket tacos. Super overpriced for what they give you. Mediocre at best and the service was slow. The bar was "backed up" but the restaurant was not even half full. Only amazing service we had was from the guy refilling our water cups. read more

Our first visit to this restaurant! My wife and daughter both ordered the fish tacos and liked them very much! My brisket tacos were a little overdone and dry, but flavorful. Very creative menu. We were hoping for some chips and salsa, but apparently that is too low rent for this restaurant which is a little silly to me. Overall, it was a good experience, we would try it again! read more

great food! slightly slow service during off hours but otherwise fantastic seated within 5 minutes food within 25 easily, great food, a little on the higher side (14-18) but very filling and unique. peaceful environment when we went but can see it being to hang out at later in the evening read more

Connected to the Hilton. Stopped by since I was staying at the hotel. For a hotel restaurant it was unique and different from the typical hotel fare and a much more fun atmosphere. The food is mire good truck style tacos. They were mostly good. The ones with meat were as expected nothing outstanding but good. The appetizers were good as well but nothing spectacular but good. I had a mango margarita and it was very good and I would order again. Nice bar and cool hangout if in the hotel. read more

They were definitely kid friendly, and the fact that they have a hotel lobby with a long hallway to which they are connected helps a great deal. My youngest of two toddler sons was able to tear around while the food was being prepared. Service was good, food was delicious as well. The Bulgogi was salty to my wife and I (wife is Korean) but the Dubai and Good Morning Vietnam were excellent. Very hipster and a great place for innovative tacos! Thanks ATP! read more

Nothing to write home about. Very few menu items. Tacos were not seasoned well and in some cases (bao) not cooked through -gag. Excellent cocktail menu with margs on tap. Sharable plates were tough to share and lacked flavor. Now I know I know it's located attached to a hotel, what did I expect? Well Yelpers and Google said it was worth it. I think they stand corrected. Move along little doggie. Snag a prickly pear marg then hit the road to yummier casas. read more

We opted to sit outside because it was SUPER LOUD inside (it's also attached to the Hilton). I had the tofu tacos which are the only vegetarian option, so luckily they are really delicious with crystallized ginger, mushrooms, and fennel. My mom said the fish tacos were pretty average. Fried Brussels were also delicious and the food came out really fast - even before our drinks, though we got those in a reasonable amount of time too. I'd probably hit up a food truck for tacos next time I'm in Austin, but this place isn't bad at all. read more

I was in Austin for a data science conference. On the third night, there was a gathering to commemorate the wonderfulness of the whole occasion, during which cocktails and hors d'oeuvres were served. As delicious as those were, it wasn't sufficient for this writer, so I knew I'd need to restock the belly. On several earlier walks I had seen this place, and was intrigued by the name and the friendliness it suggested. As it's only a few blocks from the hotel, I thought I'd give it a shot. Walking in around 8PM, it seemed to have been busy earlier. I say that as most of the tables look like they needed to be bussed. I sat down at one, waited a bit, and finally wandered my way to the bar, and ordered a couple of tacos with a Shiner Bock. The order did what it needed to, and the waitstaff was certainly adequate if not particularly memorable. If it's the evening and you need Mexican food, this is an adequate selection. read more

Best chips & queso in Austin! Chef Kyle gave great taco recommendations.

The Austin Taco Project is located on the ground floor of the Hilton in downtown Austin at street level. It's a fun and bright space with funky art on the walls and a variety of high tops and booths. While every item on the menu has a Mexican edge, the server made it very clear that this is "not a Mexican restaurant;" this occurred when we asked for chips with our beer cheese dip. Very strange. We ordered esquite and beer cheese dip to start. The esquite was yummy and flavorful, with charred corn and a hit of lime. The beer cheese would have been far better paired with fresh tortilla chips than the rest-stop pork rinds they were served with. It was my first experience with a pork rind and I must say, I was not impressed. The table ordered a variety of tacos. I had the avocado taco and was quite underwhelmed. It needed something, anything, to be a bit more substantial than a single slice of avocado with lettuce and tomato. Churros and bread pudding were for dessert. I did not try either, but reviews at the table were quite positive. Keep in mind that the churros were three, small churros to an order. read more

This place felt really gimmicky and the food wasn't very good. I appreciate that they are in downtown and open pretty late, but the quality in tacos and drinks is very low - but the prices are pretty high. You can't charge what they're charging if you aren't going to provide quality, delicious tacos. We liked the cheese curd appetizer, but really our experience was really whatever. The service was totally fine though! read more

My family and I work later hours and rarely have time together in the evening. There aren't many late night (past 10pm) Taco Places where we can also get a good margarita, so on a friend's recommendation, we thought we'd try ATP. We paid to park, walked over, and found the doors locked. It was only 10:30 and the website said they were open until midnight. There was no sign on the door letting guests know they were closing early due to an event or anything, so I called the Hilton front desk. The lady told me that they closed early due to low volume, but we did see a few people still inside. We ended up going down the street to a diner on South Congress which I have reviewed as well, and spent $150 with a 30% tip. I feel like this experience left a terrible taste in our mouth regarding this restaurant. I'm sure they won't be who we consider in the future. If you're thinking about going here later in the evening, call and make sure they're actually open. Correction: Yelp has them listed as open until 1:30 am, which makes it even more absurd that they closed at 10:30pm. Manager asked me to contact hi In the comment below but didn't give me any contact info. I can't reply to his reply. read more

This place is fine. The flavors are good, but the menu is kind of smaller. I had the wings which even without sauce were super salty. My colleague enjoyed a couple of tacos. I had a bite of the barbacoa which was a little salty, again, but the flavors were composed. Cool space. Didn't love the live music aspect in the bar area, it was really, really loud for a smaller space. Better suited for an acoustic set up I think. Something quieter. Nice covered patio, too. read more

Went there and when you walk by it, it seems like it's closed. Walked in, nobody really said hello or any warm welcome. You could tell the cut corners with food. Located inside the Hilton DT. Great vibe, modern decor, they have games toward the left side of the bar, live music on select days/times. They have a rotating tap of great beers. Tip: order the rogue dead guy from rogue brewery. We ordered the tots as an appetizer, saying they were AMAZING is an understatement. The poblano sauce ties it all together. I took a risk and ordered the Tac-Omakase which means "I Trust You With My Tacos" (chef's 5 favorite tacos with a side of esquites $31.75). I couldn't have asked for a better selection. We got one shrimp, one beef, one chicken, pastor and a barbacoa. I was happy to see the corn as authentic as possible with queso fresco. The service was great, the staff was friendly and not overly attentive. So lucky to have found this spot. Just spent the day traveling from Alaska, so didn't feel like going too far. Decided to stay in the hotel (Austin Hilton) and would explore other things once rested. Found out this place is less than a month old. It was a little difficult to figure out where to go in, but from there was phenom. Stephanie, our server, was excellent at explaining the food, making sure the tea was full and that we had everything we needed. Between the couple of us, we had the poke, emberred onion dip, Mexican street corn, and the wake up, bolgolgi and casa Blanca tacos. I wish I would have gotten pix of all the food, but was so hungry, I dove in. Fortunately I'll be here three more nights. Their happy hour deals look great! read more

Went here last friday 12/14 since we were staying at the hotel. They gave us these flyers which said on that night they had happy hour from 10 pm to 1:30 am. When we got there around 11, the bartender explained to us they didn't have happy hour on Saturdays, which is fine because we explained today was friday. He said they still didn't have happy hour and we showed him the flier. Another bartender came around and rudely said that the hotel people didn't know what they were doing and to take it up with them. No apology or anything. read more
