I'm a good neighbor. I try to "buy local" and visit locally-owned companies as much as possible. But why does a local business charge $812 more than Lowes for ONE BLIND??? Can't support them, sorry. We needed ONE BLIND for the Livingroom. My quote from Austin ShadeWorks totaled $1,136, which included Blind: $715, Shipping: $40, Install: $295. $295 to install ONE BLIND? 12 screws? That is $25/screw. Went to Lowes, requested a quote for EXACT same blind - same size, same texture, same features. Only difference is they quoted using Levolor, a top name brand. Total cost: $324, which included Blind, free shipping and 10% military discount. If I wanted them to "measure and install," it would have been only $18, or $1.50/screw. One Blind: $1,136 vs. $324 (without installation) = difference of $812. I will install he Lowes Blind myself - in 10 minutes. read more

I worked with Amy Gregory to order and install new 2 inch pleated honeycomb blackout shades for our master bedroom as well as the dormer windows in two upstairs bedrooms. Our previous shades did not have this same darkening as these and we are thrilled with them. It feels like those upstairs bedrooms might even be cooler. Austin ShadeWorks just helped us complete a large job of putting roller shades on all of our windows in our new home. (The job consisted of a wide range of manual shades, automatic shades, and black out shades.) We worked with Amy from the initial phone call to the very end of the installation. Living downtown in a two story loft is great fun till something on the second floor ceiling needs attention. That happened last month, my curtain rod detached itself from the concrete ceiling . I called one company they came out and laughed out-loud. They didn't do two story ladders. The second company came out dragging a ladder. They spent thirty minutes trying to figure it out and declared they didn't do electric curtain rods. I had waited three weeks for their availability. I called Vickie Dunleavy at Austin Shade Works on a Thursday . Matt and Jeremy arrived ten minutes early ready to work. They had all the right equipment , tools, and even their own 25 foot ladder. They were polite. Well groomed, and got the job done in less than an hour. They would not accept water or tips. Against company policy they said. I'm sure they're fine for simple projects, but they do NOT do custom Blinds. I just paid many thousands of dollars for custom blinds in my new Condo and I'm sadly disappointed. Unfortunately, their installations lack imagination and if they have to deal with a challenging situation, they opt for poor design and a quick fix. I would NOT recommend them for anything more than a simple standard window. read more

We ordered Roller Shades for our home, went w/this company because we had existing Roller Shades and wanted to only replace fabric and none of the hardware. Salesman measured all windows and when shades came they were all too narrow. Vicki offered a few solutions at first, and informed me that the Salesman had been fired because this was not his first "problem". She offered, a refund, get same fabric w/a discount, or order a new fabric. We decided to get refund and when I went in to get refund check a couple of times, each time her staff had a different reason Not to give us the refund check. Then Vicki changed her tune and decided she had the legal right to "make things right, after she verbally accused me of being in somehow with her salesmans misbehavior and accusing me of harassing her staff when I had gone in to collect our refund check and they had a different excuse each time why they could not give it to us. Against my husbands advice, which was to contact the credit card company, I decided to try and continue working w/Vicki to get the right shades. We decided to go w/a different shade because originals were very poor quality and had little tiny holes in fabric and they were black outs .Vicki sent us a new quote that was $3000.00 more than original fabric and that was with a 20% discount(she claims), and having to change out all hardware!!! From day 1 we said, NO hardware to be changed out, and charging $3000.00 to cover her companies loss and make more profit from their mistake, shame on her. Told her we want full refund, and she offered a refund less 25% restocking fee...So, they get paid for their mistake, total unprofessionalism and accusing me of being part of her salesman "mis-conduct" and accusing me of harassing her staff that she had lying to me. Sure, when things go smoothly all may go fine, but, when they don't beware. I don't like snakes. read more

A professional company that does quality work. However; be sure to completely understand their pricing. We had them install 7 shades for the agreed $185/hour. It was pricey, but it was a two man crew who knew their business. However we made the mistake of passing the time of day with them & asking them a couple of questions about purchasing more shades. So instead of leaving in an hour, they left in an hour & 15 minutes. I was informed by owner Vicki that they always round to the next half hour. So my 15 minutes of questioning & seeking information on further business with their company cost me (tax included) another $100. No, their professionalism did not balance their poor faith, customer relations. I would not recommend them to a friend. read more
