Car key broke off inside of the ignition in the middle of a Sam's Club parking lot. Called a bunch of places, but all either couldn't do it or quoted me ridiculous rates just to show up. Really great service. On my way to work a few weeks ago I locked myself out of my house, without my keys. Excellent start to the morning. I called the Austin Key Guy and he was over in less than 10 minutes. We chatted for a while and he even offered to make me a couple copies of my house key for no extra charge. He even gave me few key life pro-tips. This guy knows his stuff and, ladies, he's easy on the eyes to boot. Adam is a hero to me and my cats. On our very first morning of vacation, I got an alarming text from our catsitters that the key wasn't working. (Our petsitter for sure lost the one we gave her or didn't give it to the sub, because we remember testing it out, but that's for another review.) Well, seeing as how we were in another country, nothing was going to resolve quickly on our end. After first talking to another locksmith who understandably wanted several pieces of identification before changing out the entire lock, our sub petsitter mentioned Austin Key Guy. Not only did Adam answer the phone before his business hours, but he was able to make a key from a PICTURE of mine. Austin Key Guy Adam was really friendly and got me out of a jam at a super reasonable price. It always sucks to get locked out of your place, and when you're in such a desperate situation, some locksmiths will take advantage of your urgency and charge you a really high price.Not this guy. My dog was pawing at the door after we left home and locked the deadbolt so that we couldn't get in even with our keys. I called Adam and he came by within 45 minutes like he said he would, made friendly conversation, and explained to me what he was doing while he worked on our door. Once it was open, which was pretty quickly, he was really friendly with our dog and then offered to disable our deadbolt so it couldn't happen again. He really hooked us up, and I'll definitely be calling him again the next time we get locked out of our house. read more

Super fast and professional. In a tired and unthinking moment I idiotically locked my purse (with my keys) in my bedroom while I was doing 10 other things. The moment the door clicked shut, I realized what I had done and cringed and then panicked, remembering that I'd just moved the spare keys to my purse as well due to a freak problem with their normal spot! Wow, just great. My situation was a non-emergency, but Tarik was still at the house within 2 hours on a Sunday late afternoon anyway. Not only did he easily fix the main stuck-key problem we'd called him for, but he also easily dealt with a sticky back door lock that had been bothering us for awhile (but never enough to call a locksmith), AND he re-keyed a door for us. We assumed we'd be paying extra for those extra services, but he told us the main problem we'd called him for was so simple to fix that he was only going to charge us the call-out fee, no extras, for all three services he'd done. A very pleasant surprise! Tarik was also super nice and respectful -- wore his mask the whole time, took off shoes inside without asking or being asked, and was just generally a friendly person to work with. Called him for a quote on getting a chip key made from a broken key I have (chip worked but actual key was smashed. I may or may not have dropped it down the elevator shaft) and he answered right away. He told me to text him when I wasn't sure when exactly I could be available (I work downtown and didn't want him to have to make me a new key in the parking garage). I decided to have him meet my mother in law at her house the next day, and leave my car there. When I told him to call first because she had a napping baby with her, he had no problem accommodating. My mother in law said he was very nice and helpful, and she doesn't pass out compliments like candy. He made me two new keys for a little less than what it would have cost me for one key at the dealership - and I didn't have to wait around at the dealership for hours to get it done either. I chose Adam to help me replace the ignition key for my car for two reasons: 1. His prices matched the big-name competitor prices. 2. He's local. Adam was punctual, very friendly and conversational, and actually cut me a bit of deal. After I lost my car key, I searched around and realized that I had a couple of keys that would unlock the door to my car, but none of them would start it. So I searched online, checked some prices, and called Adam. When he arrived (at the exact time he said he would), I gathered up all of my keys so that he could add the security code (the code that starts the car) to them. Of course, as I was doing this, I found a key that I hadn't noticed before that had the code. I walked out, told him that I thought I had found a winner, and low and behold, the darn key started the car. Of course, Adam has a business to run, so there was a charge to come out, just like everyone else has. I was a bit bummed to spend money on something that I didn't need, but Adam made the suggestion of coding one of the other keys at no charge so that "at least you get something out of it." The coding took 10 minutes, and during that time we chatted away. In the end, I got a spare key that will start my car (versus having only one key) for the price of the service to come out (which was cheaper than what I would have had to pay for a spare). Adam was awesome! Today was my birthday and as a nice birthday present to myself, I locked myself out of my car on my way to treat myself to a solo lunch at a restaurant (as if that wasn't sad enough already. LOL!) . I called pop-a-lock, but really didn't like the call center vibe, so I checked on Yelp and found Austin Key Guy. I called and Adam answered immediately. He quoted me the exact same price as Pop-A-Lock, but I really try to support the local Austin business owners, so I went with him. He told me he was on another job, but would meet me in 45 minutes, which I didn't mind because there was a wait at the restaurant anyway. One drink, and less than 45 minutes later (more like 30), he called to let me know he was there. It literally took him less than 30 seconds to open the door and he stuck around to make sure I actually found my keys (which had fallen in between the cracks in the seat). On top of that he was such a personable guy who seemed legitimately honest, which is hard to find sometimes especially when you are a single lady, trying to get something done with your car! This guy is great! He only took about 15 minutes to get to us (which is unheard of during ACL traffic) and he got the door open in 30 seconds (BAM!). His pricing was straight forward (no extra fees like service charge, labor, etc). The best part: he is a genuinely nice person and somehow made the experience (which is usually nothing shy of a pain in the a**) bearable and comical.
