It's my 33rd birthday, my best friend took me to COTA to go go-karting, had lunch, getting dropped off at home, and BAM it happens. I realize I lost my damn house key on the go-karting track lol. Central Texas Locksmith got back to me with a very reasonable quote and they got to my place within 15 minutes. They were super patient and very friendly although my door was deadbolted and locked. I don't recommend locking your keys in your car, but if you do, hope that Central Texas Locksmith is nearby. Today I was enjoying the sunshine and giving my car a long overdue cleaning when I accidentally locked it and shut the door with the keys inside. I walked around it a couple of times, trying every door and trying to figure out what to do, when a guy behind me said, "Did you lock your keys in your car?" I said yes and he pointed to his right, where a locksmith van was sitting. I started laughing--what are the odds?--and walked over to them to explain the situation. I'd bought a new fob online without realizing that, unlike my old Camry's fob, the Land Cruiser's key had to be professionally programmed and the blade had to be cut to fit the locks. Terrible communication. I was given the cost of $135 for a new remote and programming. The new remote would be available only after 3-4 days so they offered to open the car for me. I have the key to the car so I didn't need anyone to open it for me. I explained this and asked if they would just disarm the alarm while I wait for the remote control to arrive. They came and deactivated the alarm (providing unclear instructions on how to keep it off - hard to understand... turn on the engine 5x and the alarm will sound for 2 min or something like that). Then the cost: $270 just to turn off the alarm! No keys made. No controls programmed. Just disarming the alarm! And it does NOT include the remote. That will be an extra $135 (a total of $405 for an after market remote re-programmed like the one in the attached picture)! After noticing we thought price was high they reduced to $180 (for a 3min job). I obviously cancelled the remote control and will get something somewhere else even if at the same price. read more
