    4.45 oz Wild Cod
    Sun G.

Had a good experience with fish and chips at Pajo's couple of months ago. Due to the park setting, spent half of the time fending my food from flies and crows. Thought to find an indoor facility this time. Years ago, had C-Lover but wasn't impressed with the service or portion of the food for the price. Thought to search for something new. After much research, it was down to Cockney King and Austin Fish House. Though overall the reviews of Austin's is not as impressive but the value was superior. When we heard they had wild cod, the deal was sealed. We went on a Sunday afternoon, hoping to get their lunch specials and add a piece of cod or halibut if the portions were too small. Turns out they have an AYCE deal on. The 16.99 AYCE comes with 3 large pieces of cod each weigh 4.4-5 oz (and yes we brought our weight). They were kind enough to switch out the fries for coleslaw for no extra cost. Killer deal just the 3 pieces were enough. Overall excellent experience. Great service from greet to finish. The staff was friendly and timely attentive. The wild cod as fantastic; fresh, flaky with a light thin batter. Great deal. Great price. This place has exceeded our expectations. Will be back. (Note: this review is for the Pitt Meadows Location)

I absolutely love the Austin Fish House. I've eaten at this restaurant for almost 20 years! They have by far the biggest pieces of fish for their All-You-Can-Eats, bigger than any other Fish n Chip joint in the lower mainland. If you are new to Austin Fish House you must try the deep-fried mushrooms, the popcorn shrimp or the poutine, I always get extra cheese and gravy on my poutine! Don't expect then traditional cheese curds though they use grated mozzarella and cheddar cheese. The service at the Austin Fish House house is the best I've ever experienced at a diner like restaurant. The two waitresses treat you like family, it's a refreshing change having two people who actually care about the people they are serving. I don't know if I've ever gone more than a month or two without eating here, it's a Coquitlam classic without a doubt. If you live in the area you should eat here and support this place because the people that work here care and they deserve success. Pro Tip: The Poutine is the ultimate hangover cure. One Wish: I wish they would add dill to the Tar Tar. As long as this place is open I'll always be a regular. I highly recommend giving this place a try with your family. Don't let a couple average reviews change your opinion on this place try it for yourself! Say Hi to Anne and Karen for me!

AUCE Wild Cod - additional pieces of fish, no questions asked

Austin fish house Value: 5 Stars Quality: 5 Stars Service: 5 Stars Decor: 0 Star Cleanliness: 4 stars We had All U Can Eat Wild Cod Fish & Chips. The value was incredible because the average piece of fish weighed in at 4.5oz! (Yes i do bring my food scale around so I can calculate what I ate). The platter comes with 3-pieces (thats 14oz of fish & batter) on fries. I asked for substitute for coleslaw and it was done - no question ask. The fish batter was thin, the fish was flaky which was a good sign of freshness. The oil used in deep fried is very good, as none of us experienced inflammation the day after we ate. Usually restaurant that cheap out on replacing oxidized oil with new oil will cause the food to have high level of rancid oil that cause our body to be inflamed. I was full after eating 1 piece of fish. Next time I will just order the 1-piece lunch platter. The fries were hand cut, and had authentic potato taste as supposed the flour-based fries from McDonald's that rely on msg for taste. Coleslaw is very basic and is NOT a feature. Service was very good that day - we were served by a young person who was very polite and attentive. There was another table at opening hours so the place was not yet busy. Decor wise it is old but very clean. Since we are getting such good value of food, I think the owners focus all the money on quality fish and oil instead of fancy decoration. So I am totally overlooking the decor. Afterall I am here for the fish, not the decor. Caveat: This is a franchise business, so our good experience may not be replicated in other locations. We will likely drive to this location next time when we want fish & chips. Disclosure I am a recipe developer for low-carb and ketogenic diet, so I go to restaurants to sample food that I want to make.

    Ketchup and tartar sauce

I wanted some fish and chips for lunch. So we ended up here after a quick Yelp search. We were pleasantly surprised that there were lunch specials on weekends. My date and I each ordered one of the lunch specials choices. I am not sure what is the "fish" they used but I assume it was pollock. The fish was lightly battered and the batter stuck to the fish well. There was a heaping pile of fries - pipping hot which is how I like my fries served. The clam chowder was a bit weak. This one was mainly potato and a few pieces of clams. There was unlimited tartar sauce served in a squeeze bottle. Service was friendly. Price was great. You do not find many places that can offer a meal for under $10 these days other than fast food.

Heard lots about this hidden gem and have always wanted to try it. Was not disappointed!!! Fresh, hand cut fries (an hour ago they were ) and lightly battered seafood and chicken (Not greasy, just savoury) HUGE portions and fast and friendly table service! Family owned and operated, but best of all, authentic!

You know the feeling of greasy aftertastes when you consume deep fried food from McDees to KFCs to any even diners, the inflammatory hotness, the inflammation in the roof of the mouth and tongue? Swollen gums? This is usually caused by poor quality ingredients or re-using of rancid oil for deep frying. Result is discomfort and or general unwellness. The reason I bring this up is, after eating at Austin's, I have zero negative aftertastes and zero signs of inflammation. For lunch I ordered the 3 piece wild cod fish and chips. The chips is nothing fancy. In fact slightly over cooked. Some on Yelp says chips is frozen-could well be?!? But the fish....the wild cod... is fantastico. Thinly battered flakey firm fish. Zero unpleasantness, zero inflammation. Which is awesome. The quality really stands out. We'll definitely come back and try the DEEP FRIED CHOCOLATE BAR!!! Yeah how crazy is that?

Interior was quaint and well decorated. Outside patio was cozy and delightful in the nice weather. I ordered a ling cod and chips, wifey ordered Cajun Prawn and avocado Benny. I also ordered full bowl of clam chowder to try out. The ling cod was fried perfectly , 2pc decent portion size crispy and the meat was moist. I did wish it was seasoned as the meat itself tasted bland but fresh as fish goes. Adding a bit of salt on it before dipping in the tartar sauce helped. The chips nice and crispy, soft interior and seasoned well. The coslaw was lightly dressed, I prefer a bit more dressing but it was still ok. The chowder was creamy and full of seafood. Very tasty and I probably shouldn't have gotten a full bowl as wifey couldn't help much with sharing and I was reaching capacity with the fish and chips. The sour dough bread that came with the chowder was toasted expertly as it was crispy on the exterior and still had a nice soft chew interior which i love. Wifeys Benny i didn't try so cannot attest to its taste but she seemed to enjoy it. I did eat a couple of her home style potatoes and this were crispy and soft in the middle. Very nice. The servers were excellent and very attentive, making sure we were taken care of and checked on us appropriately. Even with how busy they were i could see how they attended to everybody very well. If around the area would definitely go back. Food was pretty good, service great and atmosphere lovely.

We ordered a number of items and food arrived after a short wait. The fish was perfectly fried with a decent coating of batter. The house cut fries were crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. We shared both the cod and halibut. My husband preferred the halibut over the cod, but I found both to be enjoyable. Coleslaw was fresh. Onion rings are one of the better onions rings I have tried. It was crispy too and made with the same batter as the fish. Their signature soup was a bit on the saltier side with the bacon. I would have preferred a classic clam chowder over this. Restaurant was clean and tidy. There was a steady flow of customers coming and going. Staff were quick to clear tables for the next customers. Our server was friendly, and efficient. She stopped by regularly to refill water cups and cleared dirty plates. Overall, this meal was very good. I would make the drive to here when I am craving for some fish and chips again. Prices were reasonable for the quality and amount of food we ordered. There is ample free parking on the plaza.

You can taste the sweetness of the crabmeat as it is not smothered in Mayo or dressing. The deep fried oysters are coated panko style. It is not oily though it does get to you after a while. Maybe I'm just not big on fried stuff. The combo has 4 pieces of the fried oysters and clam chowder. Not too bad. The clam chowder is disappointing as it is very starchy tasting. I will not get this. Fish and chips is their specialty and they have other seafood burgers too. Besides the hot food, you can get live crabs, oysters and clams here. There are also cooked shrimps and crabmeat which you can buy by the pound. Frozen and fresh seafood is also a available here. A good place to get that for those living in this area. Tasty seafood place in the Maplewood area…read more The location is a bit tricky to find. The shop is part of a giant faceless business park. I made the mistake of trying to enter from Forester. This is the most inefficient way, as the shop is literally on the opposite corner of the entire complex. If heading E on Dollarton, go straight past Forester and turn R at the 3rd long building. In other words, Crab Shack is located at the very NE corner of the entire complex, right before Maplewood Flats. Seriously wish someone had told me this, as I spent 10 minutes driving around like an idiot. After parking and waiting for my blood pressure to go down, it was time to check out the shop. The place is set up like something one might find at a marina. The place is pretty busy, and my understanding is that a lot of things sell out regularly. This happened with the clam chowder on the day I went, so I settled with a crab sandwich. The product is quite fresh and tasty, and the price definitely reflected it. Staff were friendly, though they were pretty swamped. Guess I'll come back at some point to try their clam chowder. Recommended.
