I'm not Thai. I've never been to Thailand. It was only about a decade ago that I was introduced to Thai food. My point - I'm not an expert when it comes to Thai cuisine. However, I am an expert on what I like as far as my taste goes AND I like Aura Thai. I like their service. I like their food. I like the atmosphere. I like their location as it's close to work. I like their use of technology (iPads & iPhones) as I work in that field. What made it even so much more memorable for me is that while I was dining there (twice already), I didn't feel like I was at a restaurant, I felt like I was a guest in Cookie and Chris' home. Not only were they friendly, they were informative and conversation wasn't just about food - it was about life. Not the usual superficial banter. So far, I've had the Panang Curry which I really enjoyed. I also had the Pad See Iew. Of the two, I liked the Curry more but it could be because I was craving it for days. On the day I chose the noodles, I couldn't decide on what to get and settled. I liked both dishes though as they were able to prepare it "Thai" spicy. I've not been to many places that serve food with that level of heat. It's not for everyone, but I love it like that. One more thing I almost forgot to mention - it's NOT "cash only". read more

I usually don't leave bad reviews but I couldn't let others not be warned. I used to love this place. I always ordered through Yelp, over the phone, or home delivery since it's so close to my house. I was a regular and a loyal customer but not anymore. I will not support this establishment again. Why? HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. I got off work, tired, and decided to place an order through Yelp so I could pick it up on my way home. I got to the restaurant and they said that the order "hasn't gone through" but that "it's okay we'll make it for you." This was already irritating because I placed my order online so that when I get there, it will be ready and I won't have to wait. But, okay technical issues happen, I understand, so I just said "Ok" with a smile and sat down and waited. While waiting, I checked to see if the payment went through on my bank account and it did, so the order DID go through. When they gave me the food, I was about to leave and they were YELLING and said, "You have to pay for that!" And I told them, I already did and SHOWED them the confirmation from Yelp AND the bank transaction (screenshot uploaded here). They proceeded to keep yelling at me saying, "WELL THAT'S NOT OUR PROBLEM. YOU HAVE TO PAY FOR THE FOOD OR WE CANNOT GIVE IT TO YOU. YOU HAVE TO CALL YELP AND GET A REFUND." I kept telling them that I do not want to pay TWICE for the food. I ordered it through Yelp's online ordering which is a service they signed up for and now they want me to pay AGAIN after the money had already been taken out of my account AND go through the hassle of calling Yelp's customer service. This whole time, all they did was YELL at me to pay for the food (that I already paid for) and that it's not their problem. Not even 1 of them apologized for the inconvenience and ALL 3 of them were yelling at the same time and it was just me. I told them, "I'm not paying twice for the food. You can keep it," left and will never come back. This is NOT how you treat a customer. They just lost a customer of so many years for what? $13? I politely explained to them my point of view and they yelled at me as if I walked in there and demanded free food. I can pay for my food, I just refused to be yelled at, to pay twice, AND to go through the hassle of calling Yelp's customer service for a technical issue on a service that THEY signed up for. The food was okay, nothing to brag about. The server was very nice and friendly. The restaurant was nice and welcoming.

So it's dinner night at my house (day before thanksgiving), I invite the family over for Thai from my neighborhood. I was only able to take a picture of a few items...apparently everyone's appetite was vulture like due to running around. I've eaten here before so I know it's good. I got me the satay chicken which comes with a small cucumber salad side and some coconut sauce, perfect but allot. Everyone enjoyed the dishes which were orange chicken with white rice, chicken pad Thai and roast duck soup. Oh and an order of fried wonton which are filled with this yummy potato filling. There's outdoor seating and online ordering and overall their food is fresh and good, but keep in mind typically their servings are for two plus. In my opinion anyway. And for those complaining about waiting 25 or so minutes for your food to be done..hey it's fresh what did you expect? Tip: call or order online, it'll cut your wait time. Came from work in my scrubs to pick up my food. They are taking all covid-19 precautions, cute set up and very clean. They saw me in my scrubs and thanked me for working and told me to stay safe. The food is great, Thai food in Long Beach is always good so this little mom and pop shop definitely hits the spot. 5 stars for being compassionate humans, thanking me for working during the pandemic, and telling me they will see me soon. This is my first week back to work after having covid. This was the best interaction I've had since quarantine, I'm also south East Asian (Filipino) and they felt like my auntie and uncle talking to me. I wanted to cry. I love this place not just because the food is amazing BUT also because they are taking great precaution during Covid19. They shut down their in restaurant dining and they have hand sanitizer and practice social distancing when taking orders at their outdoor table...thank you!!! Because other restaurants (ie Ramen) near by are still doing in restaurant and they are way over 50% capacity- which makes me VERY nervous. So, that's why I am going to Aura Thai to support them because they DO care about public health and are strictly adhering to safe practices during this difficult time. I ordered the Drunken Noodles and it was bland. No salt nor flavor just pasta and noodles. Parking was terrible.

We went for dinner last night I ordered a pad see ew with chicken and chicken pineapple fried rice and my total came out to almost $40 all for it to be served on paper plates and solo red cups for our drinks. Way over priced for the amount of food we were served as well as the quality & general presentation. Ordered beef salad today and on the menu, it displayed $8.99 on the table. I asked how much is tax and they said $1.13. Total was $12.12. I took a chance and brought my parents here. My dad LOVES Thai food and a friend recommended it, so I wanted to try it out. First off their service is good, but some of their food was only okay to me. Our party of 4 ordered: -Wonton Soup (So-so, would not order again. I should of tried the Tom Yum, but was afraid of how spicy it would be) -Larb (Medium - too spicy for me, but my mom said she liked it.) -Pad See Lew (Good, but a little too much greens and not enough meat and noodles) -Aura Fried Rice (I'm not a fan. Dad got the mild and I just know he didn't like it. This place deserves my 5 stars! Been ordering from here for years and it's always consistently fresh and yummy. Never greasy, never bland, always has super fast delivery, too! Every now and then I venture out and try new Thai places around the neighborhood, but I always come back to Aura. Typically we order the Pad See Ew, Panang Curry and a Kaprow Rice dish. Everything is always well seasoned and flavorful and the Panang is literally to die for. I seriously crave it! The chicken is always cooked perfectly and is never tough or overdone. The noodles in the Pad See Ew can sometimes be a tad overdone, but never to the point where they become mushy. And they're always seasoned perfectly and are beautifully caramelized from the wok, so that can make up for the noodle texture if they happen to come a bit over done. I just had a delivery today, and I swear I'm never venturing away from Aura again when I'm ordering from the neighborhood. No need to mess with success anymore. My go-to Thai spot in LBC cuz its walking distance from me workplace. Honestly though, I'm not a big fan of their rice dishes, they feel very generic and not authentic at all. Which is actually very puzzling since all the workers here are actually Thai people... I do like their soups a lot though! My favorite soup is the yum yum noodles. I was very disappointed after getting 2 of the aura soups one had very little seafood in general and the other was a bit better but still neither of the containers had any fish in it. it's literally a giant container of broth with a few pieces of seafood. Great food, prices are a little higher than other places but so far it's been worth it. We've had their Pad Thai, drunken noodles, won ton soup, larb salad, and Tom Ka Gai soup, which were all great!!! We've also had the fried calamari, Thai sausages, and egg rolls which are okay but not my favorite. Lastly we had the sticky mango rice which we will not order again. I've been coming here for years and the prices slowly keep increasing yet the service has declined. They have added a lot to their menu, and the food is still pretty good. But I just don't like the prices, $1.50 for extra egg, that's ridiculous. Then they still haven't opened up the inside space for their customers, barely come out the door to take orders. This review is based solely on the Thai Boat Noodles that I had. I came here on a Thursday afternoon and decided to try Aura Thai since it was close to my house and Elephant Thai Kitchen was closed. The Thai boats noodles were SO EXTREMELY SALTY that I couldn't take more than a few bites. I tried picking at the meats but it seemed like the meats were already brined from the soup and just as salty. The noodles on the other hand, felt day old. It's the feeling of digging into your soup to find that the noodles are hard and clumped together and it takes a while to pull apart. The customer service was also a bit laggy. There were only two other people in the restaurant and it took them a while to refill my water, which I desperately needed. Or maybe I was drinking the water so fast that it seemed like it was taking them a long time to refill my water. My friend had the Nam Tok steak salad, which I tried a little bit of to get the salty taste from my mouth. It was mediocre at best but considering there are a plethora of thai food restaurants in Long Beach, I probably won't ever come back here. read more
