JJ and I give this place full stars. He really wanted to sit at a long table like he did in Germany, but beggars can't be choosers. The young men serving were such sweeties. All the staff treated you like family. We both had the German salad-thinly sliced cucumbers, white and purple cabbage and potato salad with dill sauce. If you like sour kraut try the Augsburg house schnitzel. The mash potatoes were creamy and the brown gravy was excellent. JJ had gypsy and jäger schnitzels. He preferred the jäger. I knew he would... It had mushrooms. They both came with these delicious little potato chunks baked crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. They also drizzle these with gravy. Don't forget to see room for Black Forest cake. It was the perfect balance to the schnitzel- not overbearing sweet with a light and fluffy texture. Overall it was a great date night with my honey. This restaurant is great for lunch or dinner...bring your appetite though because the portions are huge. The service is excellent. I'm assuming it's a husband/wife team. She works the dining area and he does the cooking; he is definitely German! The chef comes out to check on the guests every so often which is a nice, personal touch that shows he's proud of his restaurant. The spätzle is to die for. The red cabbage is also terrific. I could easily just eat sides at this restaurant but the meat is always cooked very nicely too. They usually have 4-5 German beers on tap that add to the overall Bavarian experience. I highly recommend this restaurant if you have a hankering for good old fashioned comfort food, a few beers, and some polka music :) read more

Surprisingly, the food is one more the more authentic German experience. Although it is nothing beyond the everyday spaetzle, sauerbraten, and etc. it is still delightful enough to satisfy your German fill. Oh and you even get your beer in one of those mega jugs. Decor seems rather cheap and so is everything from the tables to silverware they serve you in. Oh and one of the real reasons why they get 3 stars is because the wait staff is pretty terrible. We had wanted to try this place for a long time - a few months but never did - until last night. We walked in and it was just as we expected based on the initial reviews from Yelp. It was all German, All the time. Even the music was straight off the German radio... They told us to seat ourself which was fine. Then the waitress came over. Bottom line - she looked like she wanted to be anywhere but there - and her attitude was of similar message. No worries - I was there for the food. I ordered a German beer - authentic and delicious. We ordered dinner - it was some theme and variation of schnitzel for all of us. It was a bit pricey - or so I thought. However, it came with a salad (German, of course). and a HUGE plate of food. And again - authentic. It was truly delicious! We thought "Finally! A place in the Evans area that was good!" I love to eat and I couldn't finish my dinner - no fear - lunch the next day. Overall, I give this place 4 stars because of its authenticity all around. I could have been anywhere in Germany. The only reason it only gets 4 stars is because I could have done without the one not-interested-to-be-here waitress. We will be back again...maybe tomorrow...and the day after that. So I have lived in Augusta since I was 5 left at 16 came back at 29, and now been here almost three years and didn't know this place existed. We went last night my son and I, with my dad. To say impressed is an understatement the food was absolutely amazing. I got the jagerschniztel and the taste was so satisfying. If the prices seem like a lot it's because one plate is enough to feed two people... so it's actually accordingly. I took the rest home which was a whole meal and even ordered and extra side of the white mushroom gravy, and not going to lie. It was basically to sip on for me like a soup. they got a loyal customer cause I literally live right up the road. I'll be going back tonight !!! Wow, I'm surprised to find this place in Augusta. The location is easy to find and it's right across the street from Super Walmart. I could be wrong but it looked like they got the whole family to work that night. A teenage girl served me water, a little boy brought out our salads, and the grandma helped cleaned up the tables. It was nice to see how the family interact & worked together. We had a hard time pronouncing the entrees on their menu. I wish they had numbers next to each dishes. We started with a German salad and a cucumber salad. I play it safe and ordered the Schnitzel breaded and pan fried pork served with french fries. I asked for lemon so that i can squeeze it onto the Schnitzel. It brings out the taste and moisten the meat. He ordered the Krauter-Rahm Schnitzel which is a pan fried pork (not breaded) with a garlic cream sauce served with spaetzle. I don't eat enough German food to know if it's authentic, but it was good enough to make me want to come back. read more

Food was awful 40 plus years ago when they were on Walton way and has not improved today. Had the roulade with red cabbage and spaetzle. The only thing edible were the spaetzle as long as the gravy was not on it. All was extremely salty, the cabbage was big leaves cooked with not much taste. The German salad was passable. Ambiance non existent. Our waitress could not have cared less. Had to ask for refill of water, never asked if we needed anything or how the food was. The food is always the same (excellent) and I really appreciate that consistency. My family has been here many times and they never disappoint. My personal favorite is the gypsy schnitzel and my wife and daughter always get the goulash and we all get the cucumber salad. I was sad when Adolf passed last year and I was worried that the restaurant would close or change the menu or something but nope the train kept rolling and the food is the exact same. I was excited to try this place, but was not blown away. The staff was efficient, but I'm not sure if they wanted us there. I thought for sure they had to serve wine and beer, but was not offered a menu. I did finally hear another table placing an order. The food menu selection was very small. That isn't always a bad thing! Pick a few things and do them very well is a great strategy! I had the Schnitzel Cordon Bleu, which was much more than I could eat, but it wasn't anything to write home about. I had the fried potatoes instead of the potato salad. My husband had the schnitzel as well, but his had a mushroom gravy on top of both the meat and potatoes. He ate almost all of his meal. Stopped in on a Friday before 5 for an early dinner. I was in town visiting my kinder. Family run restaurants are my favorites and when its a Kraut haus I get excited. I was not disappointed here. Had the brats with kraut, mashed potatoes and an additional side if spaetzle! Abundant portions, this could have easily been shared by a couple. They had Kostriker Schwartz Bier, my personal favorite, lol, had three litres while I wrote this. Food was spot on, and the gravy was full of flavor. ( I have a thing for spaetzel and gravy) some of this is coming home with me! The service was decent, polite and quiet young lady with help from the head Frau here. The only negative aspect was the little girl around 3-4 running around and crying about everything. Lol, I am sure there is an overprotective Oma or Opa around here constantly! She is a sweetheart but I am not a fan of kids running around unattended in a business. Don't get me wrong I am an Opa to 3 little girls, and love children, "but" think there is a place and time for everything. Prices were about normal for a German bier haus in America. Dinner and ALL my biers was just shy of $50. But as a 6'3" 280lbs German boy I took it eady on the beir! Great food, atmosphere and service. My husband and I frequently enjoy dinner at this restaurant. The family that owns the business is very friendly and attentive. The goulash soup is always a delightful treat and the chocolate mousse cake is amazing! My husband swears by the bratwurst and I always get the jagerschnitzel. We recommend this place to all of our friends. I'm a little confused reading some of the reviews complaining about authenticity. The food at this restaurant is as close to authentic as we've found in the area. If you want authentic, then pay for a plane ticket to Germany and enjoy authentic. The server we had tonight had the personality of stale bread. Like other reviewers mention, we did not feel welcomed and did not get any more contact or care than necessary. The goulash I ordered was gross. The meat was dry, chewy, over cooked. The spaetszle was not authentic, not quality tasting, fluffiness and color. My husband had the fried pork. I asked to try a bite and I gave back what was left on the fork, it was gross. He didn't finish his plate and was equally disappointed. The cake was good but Fresh Market can make a better one, which says a lot. This is a German restaurant, we would expect to have the best. The music they had on was extremely annoying, it wasn't even music it was a cheesy techno song with an alarm repeating itself, it was pissing me off. I had schnitzel with roasted potatoes and salad. The portions were huge. The schnitzel hung off the plate on both sides. Jon got the variety plate with schnitzel, roasted potatoes, spaetzle, and bratwurst. His plate had a little cup of mustard. That was the best mustard I have ever tasted. I wanted to give this place a try since German restaurants in Augusta are not common. Villa Europa is mediocre and I thought maybe Ausburg Haus would be different. 1. Cucumber salad is bland and does not have nearly enough vinegar or any at all... which anyone who is familiar with German cucumber salad knows vinegar is necessary!! Germans pickle and can their vegetables.. 2. Spaetzle was over cooked and I'm not really sure if it was homemade like advertised. 3. Rahm snchitzel was bland and so was the gravy... where was the sherry wine? 4. Mushroom gravy for Jagerschnitzel tasted from a packet and the mushrooms were definitely canned...trust me. I just was really disappointed because I know what good German food tastes like and this just appealed to the stereotypical assumption that German food is bland which it's not! read more

Since I left Germany in 2000, I've been searching for a local awsome, German restaurant. I have satisfied my craving. My son wanted to take me out and I choose this place. The entire staff was pleasant. My son plays football for Fort Valley University. It was so surprising to us when the owner and his wife let us know that they looked for the largest piece of schnitzel to cook him. My poor baby standing 6"2 , 240lbs.....had to get a to go box. Disappointing meal. Not the place I remembered and enjoyed. The schnitzel cordon blue was a disaster (I think). The pork schnitzel looked like a preformed and breaded very thin pork cutlet with heavy breading. They fried the living heck out of the cutlet and cut it in half and then placed a slice of ham (probably a slice fron the grocery store freezee section) and a slice of cheese. So absolutely no fresh preparation of the food and no real pride in delivering a meal to remember...opps maybe this is the memory they want to deliver? read more

Holy moly, it was packed here tonight. I am not going to hold it against them since the last time I was here the service was great. Tonight I ordered the schnitzel cordon bleu and I wasn't a huge fan. It was still good and served with potato salad (which was super tasty) but the schnitzel was just a little too dry for my taste. I came here before Christmas and ordered the jaegerschnitzel with white mushroom gravy on it and it was delightful. I will be ordering that the next time I come. One last note, the German salad that is an option with the entrees is what I've been looking forward to since the last time I came. I spent some time in Germany and the food here is very authentic. Like traditional German cuisine, it is heavy and comes in big portions...which this restaurant provides. I've tried various types of their schnitzel, their schweinebraten, gulasch, spaetzle, potato salad, cucumber salad and all of it was excellent. Their beer selection is nice as well, as it is comprised of several types of beer that are available in Germany. I usually go with the dunkelweizen...fantastic. On one occasion, we stayed a little late and the owner and his family went above and beyond with their service and friendship. They really made us feel like part of their family. This is extremely authentic to restaurants and pubs in Germany, where guests are treated as if they were the most important people in the world. I highly recommend Augsburg Haus. read more

The wait staff seemed to be going through the motions and for the most part were not welcoming. They were not bad, mind you, but didn't seem thrilled that we came in to eat. The sauerbraten was dry and needed the brown gravy for moisture. The rot-kohl was decent. They could reduce the portion size by 1/3 and reduce the price by 1/4 and be better off. Very good experience and food overall. We went, in the afternoon, and there were only 3 other tables occupied, so we didn't know if that was good or bad? Well it turned out good for us! We ordered the variety platter appetizers and it was very good, offering a great variety to sample. But, after eating the appetizers we still had huge servings of food to come. My (vegetarian) faves: Radler (beer & Sprite) and the German Salad. Spätzle with Jägersoße and Rotkraut. The food is authentic, not my region, but further South. I'm only giving it three stars because of the atmosphere. All the great tables are Stammtische and are always reserved. It's more like a cafeteria than a German restaurant, however they've got plenty of German decor, mostly Fußball stuff, which is proper, since Germans are as much into soccer as Canadians are into ice hockey (including the fights ;)). If you are a carnivore, you have plenty of meal choices. Vegetarians have to eat sides. But be aware that their sides are HUGE. Try the Black Forest Cake, it's pretty good. BIER WARNUNG: Ask for Warsteiner. It's the only real beer, everything else is just blech. read more

This place is great! Came here with my family for dinner. Very relaxed atmosphere with friendly staff. The food was amazing! The kids meals also have real German food rather than the typical chicken nuggets, although they did also have kraft Mac. Food was very well done and very generous portions. I get the cordon blue most of the time, or the schnitzel the other times, and really enjoy the food. I have lived 7 years in Germany over my life and I feel that this food is pretty authentic. I only drink one beer: Franziskaner Weissbier, and they have it on tap here. I also like the German Salad, as well as the cucumber salad. My wife really enjoys the rouladen and purple cabbage, with a Radler to drink. We go here quite a bit and I look forward to it every time. read more
