Wanted sandwiches with the guys during Masters week. No other better stop than Hildebrandt's. Great food and very kind staff. Charming ambiance and decor. Last year I had the German Sandwich and it was great. Opted for the Carolina bbq this year and it was a real winner.

I hadn't been to this establishment in over 10 years and I was shocked to see Mrs.Hildebrandt is still working at her restaurant. They used to have the best sandwiches! I decided to stop by for lunch, the line was a bit long, but it was moving along fairly quickly. I love sweet heat type of meals so I opted for the Sweet Heat Louis (I surprised myself because I don't like pastrami). There was a bit of a wait, but I know the quality is there, so I didn't mind. I waited until I made it home to eat because I had to go back to work. I took a bite without the sauce and the meat was tender, the pastrami taste was there as well, but I didn't want to not eat it. I dipped it in the sauce and it brought all of the flavors together very well. I'll be back in the near future to get my old time face, the club.

Got here about 2:15 and placed our orders. I had Corn Beef Reuben and wife has Pastrami Reuben. Side of German Potato Salad also. Also had a Beerwine.l to drink everything was delicious. The place is like stepping back in time. There is a lot of sidewalk construction. Don't let that deter you

This place is pretty darn cute and makes great sandwiches! I had a great Corned Beef Rueben with Sauerkraut--perfect! It appears to be run by a husband and wife team without any staff, so the orders come out slow, but hit the spot! This is a perfect spot to catch up with old friends and take your time to kick back and enjoy a good sandwich.

The wait time heart my soul. They are severely understaffed but by golly was that the best Reuben Sandwich I've ever had. The macaroni salad and sweet tea was also delicious. Update: Went here here again next day, and I must say it's not a once in a blue moon wait time. This time I was the first one in line to order when i walked in. There were only about 4 or 5 people in the restaurant and some were eating already. This was just after opening time...and I waited at the cash for TWENTY minutes being seen 4 times and not having my order taken that I just left. They are seriously understaffed. The worker here is literally the cashier, the waiter, the cleaner, the tea refiller, the kitchen helper, etc. The sandwich I had yesterday was amazing but unless you have an hour to kill waiting to get ordered and receive your food...going here is pointless. I really wanted to try another sandwich and go here everyday of my trip but really nobody has this time on their hands.

GREAT food, great feel, it's become my lunch stop whenever Im nearby. Pastrami Reuben much tastier than I expected and the macaroni salad is light and refreshing. LOVE that I got to watch the train go by right outside the door!

Great sandwiches -- I got the pastrami Reuben, my husband got the corned beef Reuben. Generous amount of pastrami & corned beef, perfect ratios of melted cheese, sauerkraut & brown mustard. German potato salad was excellent as well. Fast service too. I liked the old timey ambian

I did not grow up with an exposure to authentic German food. Sure I had the rock hard pretzel slowly rotating around on the gas station counter and I had sauerkraut on my hotdogs (but it was from a jar/can). But no brats or schnitzel or even kasekuchen. And mustard, just the hyper yellow stuff from a plastic container. Thankfully my curiosity and palette grew. I began to sample various dishes and seek out establishments, as I moved around, serving "the good stuff." And then I came to Augusta. It was here I heard about a deli downtown that has been in business since 1879. That alone had my attention. But I heard their Reuben was the best around. Now I had to visit. This place has a simple layout; walk in the door marked Entrance and you are automatically in line. Along the wall you'll see local wares such as hot mustard, honey, cutting boards and hats. The menu remains constant, but desserts change daily. Drink options include quality ginger ale, sodas, and lemonade (no beer-maybe one day). And the team, they are the best you'll find. Luanne has been at the helm for many years and she's not quitting any time soon. She will remember your name after one visit and stop by your table to make sure the order is up to your liking. If you're lucky, a train will roll by. It's the only reminder you're still downtown while inside. Photos on the way date back decades and decor is literally antiques available for purchase. It is the perfect place to escape for lunch, as that is the only time they are open (11 am-2:30 pm, Mon-Sat). Don't miss out!

This is another awesome German place to visit if you've never been! They have been around for many years downtown. They have sandwiches and bratwurst. I've ate here a dozen times and the food is good every time.

How do I begin to describe this place? First of all don't walk in looking for a typical restaurant setting. It feels more like entering a book store or antique shop. Once inside, walk straight to the counter below the Hildebrandt sign. I recommend the Reuben Pastrami sandwich with German potato salad and a Ginger ale. The potato salad had bits of onion, and bacon. The Pastrami sandwich had sauerkraut, mustard and pastrami on rye toast. None of the ingredients overwhelmed the others. Instead they came together to form a delicious meal. The ginger ale was the finishing touch. This is a perfect place to come with friends or with a good book. The atmosphere is friendly yet quite private. Social distancing is observed, masks required and tables sufficiently separated.

My late maternal Grandmother took several of us there when she closed on her home many years ago and I remember a very pleasant experience. The spot is stuck time and represents the glory days of South Augusta. It still smells and looks the same. We started with the Bavarian Fritters. They were so scrumptious. I love the apple sauce with which they are served. I had the pork schnitzel with Spätzle for my entree. It was delicious. They have outdoor dining and a large dining room. Our service was great and we had an excellent turnaround time on our food and orders. I took a slice of German Chocolate Cake home. Parking is free and ample. Come support this longstanding Augusta institution that has been around for 50 years. I'd recommend some updates from an infrastructure standpoint on their end to really improve the experience but otherwise we had a great experience.

This restaurant has been here for 40 years and I fear she is on her last legs. Villa Europe is like a grand dame of yesterday in a shabby mink and run down heels. The wallpaper is torn her and there, the carpet is a bit worn and things just look old yet it is still cozy and somehow elegant. My daughter lamented that they "don't make restaurants like this anymore". Our waited predicted that the place would most like close by June. He said the building is too costly to maintain. It's a shame because this is our go to for German cuisine after having some negative experiences at the other German restaurant in the area. We did notice that they are no longer selling alcohol but fo offer some alternative options. As we always do we had German fare although Italian and American are offered. My daughter chose the braised pork with a mushroom cream sauce served with spaetzle and german potato salad. She declared it very tender and tasty. I had my perennial favorite Jaeger schnitzel with brown mushroom gravy and roasted red potatoes. I also had a nice side salad with excellent blue cheese dressing. Mom got the sampler platter with home fries and had to carry half home with her. Over all everything tasted great and the service was top notch. I hope to make it back before the doors close for ever. If you've ever enjoyed a meal there, or you are looking for superior German cuisine give Villa Europa a visit before the doors are closed forever on this Augusta tradition.
