It might be slightly unfair to rate a restaurant when you have sampled little to none of their fare, but as customer service is a part of the dining experience, a caveat to potential diners may well be merited in this case. I was witness to a situation that occurred wherein an order was prepped for pickup by one of the various delivery services that offer same, and it evidently didn't end well. . . From what I could gather, the order was incorrect, as it apparently had two salad items instead of the one the customer ostensibly ordered. The delivery person brought this to the attention of whom I took to be the hostess on duty, and she told him that the prepared order was that which was dictated to her over the phone. She mentioned that, to ensure its efficacy, she had repeated the order back to the caller, who was apparently the order relayer with the requisite delivery service. The hostess seemed from the get-go to be a bit snippy, as she wanted to have what they prepared paid for - cause if it was incorrect and the customer didn't want it, nothing could be done with it and it would ostensibly go to waste. The delivery person apparently contacted the customer twice on the phone, and explained the situation with their order. He relayed the customer's wishes to the hostess, that they wanted their order as they had placed it in the delivery service app . . . and this is where good customer service should (have) come in . . . Instead of granting the customer what they originally ordered, the hostess debated with the delivery person over the aforementioned points of cost. While it appears that the fault possibly lay with whomever called in the order, for the sake of good customer service sometimes a little legal tender might have to be sacrificed to give the customer a little TLC . . . But that was apparently not happening in this case. At some point the prepped order disappeared from the front cash-wrap, and the delivery person left with nothing. The customer must have canceled the order, and was most likely left with a negative impression of this diner, the other reviews of which appear to bear this out - both cuisine and service-wise. My impression is that the diner should have accommodated the customer, as the order was not an entree but a salad. Of all the possible orders one could make at any given restaurant, salads must certainly have the highest markup. Also, given that any dining establishment must get their food in bulk and at a lower cost than any given supermarket shopper, the amount of loss in this case was most likely in the single digits. As such, the debate between the delivery person and the hostess is somewhat inexplicable, in a cost-benefit sense alone (setting aside the customer service aspect). Conclusion: I would go back to this diner to sample their cuisine, but perhaps only that for which the reviews are positive. As usual I take my wife to an early mothers day dinner, just to avoid the rush in the restaurants on Sunday. This would be my first time at Atlantis Diner I wanted to try a new location. First of all our waitress needed a lot more training, she did not suggest or upsell anything. Halfway trough the appetizer came the salad, before I took a bite at my cucumber the main course was served. I should concentrate on the meal, we ordered chicken quesadillas, a shrimp dish that my wife said it was very good and for me the salmon stuffed with spinach and crab meat topped with vodka sauce. Chicken quesadilla, the worse quesadilla I ever seen. This appetizer was serve on a bed of greens (wet) with some shredded cheese sprinkled over it . There were very little cheese and chicken but tons of cooked onions. We hate two pieces and set it aside Lastly my stuffed salmon, this entrée was covered with the sauce, first thing came to mind why is the chef smothered the salmon with vodka sauce (seemsshe like he was hiding something. The star of the dish should be the salmon not the sauce, needless to say I hate half my entrée and ask for the check. As I went to pay the cashier she ask me (how was your meal?) I responded TERRIBLE.. ONION HAS NO BUSSINESS IN A QUESADILLA. After spending half the night at a cafe I just needed something ANYTHING that wasn't either cake or coffee to put in my mouth. I remembered Atlantis was only a few minutes away. Since they've redone this diner it looks so shiny -- like a casino! I wouldn't go as far to say it's a gamble eating there, but at the very least it was an adventure. I bit down and found a surprise in my turkey burger. It was almost like finding a surprise in a cracker jack but clearly not as fun. Ouch - part of a zip tie, presumably used to hold something together in kitchen. They claimed it was a piece of cartilage but pssh, working in IT, I've used enough zip ties in my life to know when I've chewed on one. Our waitress (Kimberly, I think? I kept calling her the pink power ranger because she was charismatic with foodie super powers), was ridiculously sweet and apologetic. She had no problems bringing a completely different dish out. Here's the Scoop: this a a beautiful Diner with a very friendly staff. The booth seating was very clean and comfortable. The menu was extensive it took me a minute to make a decision. As I perused the menu I couldn't help but look at the beautiful interior. The ceilings are gorgeous. Ok, let's get to the service: it was efficient and friendly at the table, a little glitch at the beginning to get a table, no one at the counter to escort us to a table. I ordered the Fajita trio: Shrimp, Chicken & Steak. It was served sizzling hot with tortillas and sauces. I loved the presentation, my eyes were delighted and my stomach couldn't wait. The first taste was just delightful and everything my stomach anticipated. The onions & peppers sautéed to perfection. On another occasion I ordered a burger and it just didn't have any flavor. I asked for a fried egg on it, and I had to send that back to get the yolk runny. I went there with our family, four of us. Our waitress couldn't be bothered. We ordered and waited and waited. She chose to talk with her fellow wait staff. We ordered dinners, we got no bread, no Cole Slaw and pickle, nothing. THEN when our food did arrive she almost threw it down on the table. My 17 year old daughter asked out loud, did we do something wrong? We didn't see her again, we needed some sauces, some refills and had to ask another waiter for these things. This is not the way to treat PAYING customers. Sad too because the food is quite good, big portions, well cooked. You should really give your wait staff some pointers on how to treat people who YOU are serving. I'm sorry but if you want to work at a fast pace restaurant GET WITH IT OR GET LOST! She believes she's entitled to being a rude staff member. To the OWNER: You have a good diner since the renovations but there have been a few negative experiences that I want to convey to you. I live in the area and I like that there is a clean, local diner that we can patronize. We recently stopped in there after a long ride home around midnight. I ordered the chicken gyro with salad. The tomatoes, onions and peppers that came with the pita sandwich were grilled! I have eaten 100's of gyros and never once did I have grilled veggies. The raw, crisp, freshness of the veggies with the tzastziki is the norm. The chicken gyro meat strips were probably frozen (Kronos?) and cooked without any seasoning and thus flavorless. No lamb gyro option was available - only beef or chicken. The "Greek dressing" was basically commercial (Kraft?) French with some bits of herbs and some olive oil and vinegar added. Not good at all. Tzatziki was OK, not great. No cucumber, garlic, dill or mint flavor. Just "white yogurt sauce". Make it from scratch, please. It's easy. My wife had very little meat in her omelette, too. We have had other good meals there but I hope this was just an off-night for the cook (or a newbie). Late night manager was busy sitting in a booth playing on his computer, not monitoring food Q/C, the waitstaff or the floor. I want to give this diner a good review, but there are some problems. Overall, the food is really good, I've never ordered something that I didn't like. However, portion size varies and there is sometimes a long wait for food. One night my sister and I ordered food, then split a milkshake. Delicious! And being pregnant I wanted another the next day. So I decided to order one to go on my way to work. It was the exact same size as the one I split with my sister the night before. So now I paid $5.50 for half a shake. Disappointing. Was our favorite diner. Family of 5 I ordered from the special..bad choice. Came with soup, salad and main entrée and dessert.. Out came soup had too many noodles for matzo ball soup, but eh its OK. This diner gives a good name to Long Island diners. The waitstaff is young and come off as inexperienced, forgetting napkins and lapse in time checkin on us. Inside it is kept well and not grungy, this isn't a 24 hour diner and closed early (maybe because it was new years day). As for the two times I went there I was pleased with my dishes. I had a mexican wrap; the avocados were ripe and more recently the meatball parm sandwich. It was filling, the meatballs had flavor and not dry.
