It was about a 15-minute drive from the beach. Very easy to get to with GPS, and they had their own parking lot which was nice. Sorry, but the food here is just awful. My wife and I -- diner lovers with modest, reasonable expectations -- wandered in for breakfast a few days ago. We had purposely decided to avoid the seasonal-decoration and Fox-News insanity of the Oconee Diner in Islip because the last meal we'd had there was subpar. So we decided to try the Atlantis. As we walked in, we were relieved to find a more low-key atmosphere. The waiter who arrived at our table was friendly and brought us coffee that was quite good. Things looked promising. But the the food started to arrive: Tasteless, watery omelets made with patently inferior ingredients; slimy hash browns with some unknown, viscous matter coating the potato slices; and toast that couldn't hide that it had been made with stale bread. And everything had an unpleasant aftertaste. The coffee was the only high point of the meal, but obviously not enough to salvage the experience. Then to add insult to injury, the bill arrived. FIFTY DOLLARS before tip. Sixty after the tip (because I don't believe in punishing decent servers for the sins of the managers and cooks). Even in this age of rampant inflation and high prices, $60 is too much for breakfast for two at a diner. If the food had been excellent -- or even reasonably good, standard diner fare -- I could forgive the prices. But that slop? No way. Never again. read more

Stopped in at Atlantis Diner West Islip. ( see pix) Got brunch for 1 and split it. Garden omelette 3 eggs mixed vegs and meat comes with home fries land toast. Was enough for 2 though nothing special. Was not crowded and there were few staff around to ask for anything. Waitress was ok. Did bring drinks, have mushrooms on side and later came back to see if we wanted anything else. While we were waiting for food order, I went up to counter and asked man there what were items in the cake display. He said that he didn't know and would find out. ( cheese danish) I'd have liked it first to share as an appetizer. I At end of meal I mentioned it to waitress. He just went to the display and pointed! We had my birthday dinner here last night. This is my favorite place to eat because I always get a good meal good price. I enjoyed my meal. My only issue is they were so busy all their great desserts were gone. So I had to go to my second fave, rice pudding. Although it was good I was looking for an amazing piece of chocolate cake to celebrate my birthday. Came in today (6/11/23) because my family went to a dance recital nearby. The waiter was nice and the food came out fairly promptly considering the diner was super busy. Standard diner fare on the menu. My Turkey melt was very good but the potato salad was not to my liking. Too loose with lots and lots of mayo. To be honest our waiter was.... exceptional! Everyone in my family enjoyed their meal. The waiter was on top of everything and friendly. I feel that the prices here are fair and the food is delicious. A plus is they have large corner booths which can even fit a chair on the end if needed. Some dishes with an honorable mention include the "Blue Burger", Chef Salad, and Rueben Sandwich. COVID related comments 9/10/2020 - All staff were wearing masks and the customers followed social distancing and mask rules as well. Atlantis Diner was a recommendation to me by my landlord. Honey and I went over to the Babylon staple for breakfast and loved it. Long Island diners are a dime a dozen, so they need something unique to make them stick out. Some have a unique decor or some sort of signature menu. Atlantis's unique thing? A simple breakfast menu and stellar service. Our waitress, Lucy, was amazing. I'm pretty sure she was psychic because she seemed to pop up only when we needed her without hovering over and interrupting our conversation. Our breakfast orders were taken and served to perfection. Well, they're open late and they're a heck of a lot better than Peter Pan Diner, but it's definitely not the greatest. Came here around midnight after a long day at work and decided to get breakfast. I had just had a terrible corned beef hash and eggs over at Peter Pan Diner a few days before, so I figured I'd order the same thing here. The corned beef hash was still out of a can, although Atlantis did a decent job at frying it on the griddle to get a bit of a crispy crust on it. It was still a bit salty and greasy, but that's to be expected when you're eating corned beef hash from a can. I do wish more places would make their corned beef hash in-house or at least buy a fresh version of corned beef hash. Or just buy corned beef, dice it up, and make it into a hash. I had always assumed to ordering corned beef hash would mean it was made fresh, but I guess that's not an assumption I can make on Long Island. The eggs were okay, as were the potatoes. The potatoes here at least spent some time on the griddle getting golden brown and crispy. I had to break out a bit of ketchup as they got a bit dry towards the end. In this area of Long Island, having something that's open this late is already a blessing. So I'm giving them an extra star for their late hours. read more

I could have brought my own two liter of coke for less than that. The waitress we had was okay. I find that many establishments you go to now it's like you are bothering the staff instead of being waited on. This place is going downhill. We used to love to come here. The last few times - not so much. Tonight we arrived and waited so long to be seated that we almost left. They just totally ignored us. Our waitress was also very inattentive, never once came back to our table. We had to call her each time. Even checking out, the kid at the register totally ignored us again, made us wait. The sad part is if it was busy you could understand but there was hardly anyone in the diner. Now we know why. The only reason I'm giving three stars is because the food was very good. DO NOT GET JUICE, they charge 5$ for 4 ounces. If it was fresh squeezed apples or oranges I understand that but it's literally Tropicana out of a bottle poured into a newborn infant sized cup. The owner will talk to servers while they are trying to take a pick up order, which in tonight's case messed up my order royally. They have no concept of how to satisfy a customer. They look of ways to over charge you. I simply ordered a bacon and egg sandwich with lettuce tomato and mayo extra bacon crispy bacon. What did they charge mean almost $14. A bacon and egg sandwiches like seven or eight dollars. Extra bacon could be two or three dollars so now we're at 10 bucks and lettuce tomato can't be more than a dollar I told him light lettuce. So don't build a house with the lettuce. Went there for lunch today with my husband. We were seated and then waited at least 10 minutes before my husband went up front to ask if a waiter/waitress was going to come over or should we go someplace else? It was not busy at all. She got all nasty and said she would send someone over like she was doing us a favor. Then she said very loudly so that the whole place could hear "he's not nice". The waitress came over with an attitude. We both ordered lunch special salad dishes. We had to call her back to get us the coleslaw that came with it and then again for dressing. We've been coming here a lot lately because the food is good. The pea soup that came with it was delicious and we enjoy the salads. That being said, that hostess does not belong in a customer service job. Her answer should have been "I'm sorry sir I'll get someone right away". Never had a problem with the waiters or waitresses before this. We will go back but if she's still there with her attitude we may stop going there. 2 stars for the food and previous trips there. read more
