The woman who got us seated (I can't remember her name), was very accommodating and patient with our requests. This was a place we tried on a whim... I can't even remember how we found it. I'm not in Saugus that often (we live in Somerville), but it's always fun to check out new places and try new things. Athidi's menu had a lot of options that were different than your average, which is a huge plus for me. (As I just said... I love trying new things)! The portion sizes were large and the food had wonderful flavors. I got the curry leaf chicken, and we got an appetizer that were little fried balls, and I'm not sure what was in them or what the name of the dish was (so helpful, I know). My wife and I were heading home north out of Boston and needed someplace for an early dinner. Love Indian always so stopped in. Very friendly welcome and comfortable space. We decided to share the goat vindaloo, ithadi special chicken biryani, and aloo gobi masala. The vindaloo was nice and spicy and the goat was so tender, sauce was incredible. The biryani was excellent, perfect seasoning and healthy portions of rice and chicken thighs. We felt the masala was probably the best of the 3, a beautiful sauce with deep flavors that we couldn't stop dipping our naan into. Anyway, it probably has the deepest menu of any Indian restaurant we've ever been to, so you have so much more to choose from. Please, if you're in the area, stop in. Don't hesitate. I am so happy that this Indian restaurant opened near my place. Finally went there for The Weeknd grand buffet and it is entirely worth it. The owner is super nice and very tentative. Speaking of the food, this buffet has so much more varieties that you can find at any Indian restaurant and everything tastes amazing. Samba, chicken 65 and biryani are my favorites. They even have a pani puri station which is awesome. I wish they add a falooda station later, bet that would be a hit :)) Strongly recommend coming here. $23.99 per person for lunch is not too shabby. Come and supper your local business. read more

Had the best dosa experience after a long time. My rava dosa was crisp, sambhar was not sweet - it was perfect. The chutneys - both the tomato and coconut were spiced perfectly. I also tried two deserts - Black Forest cake and fruit custard. It was a great food, cooked to perfection, was served hot and fresh. Their service is 5 stars. Ample parking downstairs. We took a chance and went to Athidi in Saugus.. We did not expect much, but were very surprised in a good way! I'll tell you, this place is my new favorite Indian restaurant! It's very basic and unassuming.. The location on Rt. 1 not the greatest.. But what they don't have in location they more than make up for in quality of food. The food was amazing - so flavorful and authentic. I especially loved the butter chicken, goat vindaloo and garlic naan. The service was great too, our waiter was the owner and super friendly and helpful. Definitely recommend giving this place a try! read more

The entrees are half-sized at best, appetizer sized. I came with my son, and each of us ordered an entree and naan. We left hungry. It felt like a scam. We tried Athidi last night for the first time, inspired by their not-just-the-usual-usual menu. Really flavorful garlic naan - very garlicky and buttery. Their Kadai Goat was outstanding - usually goat has a lot of bones, but this one had maybe two, instead mostly chunks of tender meat in a rich sauce full of spice and flavor served with perfectly cooked basmati rice. My husband was a little less happy with his chicken vindaloo which he found a bit on the sweet side. Service was very attentive. The only issue was the handicapped elevator on the first floor - as my husband is mobility impaired, we got into it - I wouldn't advise it - it's an old style cage elevator and when I finally got it to move (I had to hold the button in) when we got to the top, we couldn't figure out how to get out - the door into the restaurant appeared blocked and banging on it didn't help. At first the buttons to get back down didn't respond, but finally they did after a couple of minutes and we went back down - but I'd stopped it about 1/2 inch too low to get the door open and the buttons to go back up would not work. We hit the alarm several times - no response. Finally we called the restaurant and two men came down to get us out. It was kind of funny, but it was 10 aggravating minutes. Also, while they have a bar near the front door, they do not yet have their liquor license. read more

Great food, bad service. We were there for a Sunday lunch buffet. Food selection is good and taste great. I am ethnic Asian and unlike most other Indian buffets in greater Boston, the spice level here was perfect ( in other places they make it too bland). Except for Biryani, everything else was very flavorful. However, the service need to improve a lot. 1)Normally, in restaurants they serve water by default and ask about drinks as soon as you are seated. Here, we went picked up our food came back, still no water. We had to call someone to get water. 2) When we were almost done, they came asking about Dosa ( a type of Indian food). Naturally , we did not have any appetite by then. I do not think they were trying to be cringe on dosa and deliberately did not offer in the beginning. It is just that the service guys were all over but our table. Would probably visit again, but I definitely expect them to improve their service. read more

Just got delivery from here and it was great! Fair warning, there was a little heat to everything so if you don't like any you'll need to specify when you order. However, it didn't overpower any of the flavors which is one of my biggest complaints about spicy food. Everything we tried was wonderful. The paneer fried rice was really neat and something new for me. Chicken was tender, veggies were good, sauces didn't taste overly creamy or buttery, but just right. It wasn't cheap, but probably average pricing for the area. I did not try any Chinese items besides the rice, but I'm curious to try them next. I definitely will return. First time trying this place for our anniversary. The ambiance was probably not quite right for anniversary dinner but we kind of didn't care about that after getting the food. Athidi continues to impress. The food has consistently been delicious. We've tried a variety of their dishes--from biryani to both vegetarian and non-vegetarian options, and even their Indo-Chinese offerings--all of which were excellent. The restaurant has a warm and welcoming ambience, and the staff is exceptionally friendly. They made sure the food was prepared to our taste and even asked if we wanted less spicy options for the kids, which they happily accommodated. It's rare to find such thoughtful and attentive people. The owner even came to our table personally to check if everything was to our liking, making the experience even more special. Definitely worth a visit! read more

We had a meal there, the people there were so friendly and so nice, helpful, accommodating and the atmosphere was extremely comfortable. They had a huge couch set up for people that could lounge (I don't think it was an eating area) there was also one huge TV in the dining area that was playing a Bollywood movie. The food was delicious and they were very accommodating when I asked them to make it not overly spicy. I'll tell you the truth now that I'm talking about it. I just returned from dinner at Athidi. I was eager to try this new Indian restaurant as I always hope for one to open near my home, and Athidi is close. Athidi is wonderful! I was so pleasantly surprised at the cleanliness, the freshness of the space, the graciousness of the wait staff and the owners. But the food is king and it didn't disappoint! I am a vegetarian and ordered a vegetable korma (the menu is written with Indian names and I can't remember the name of my dish, but the waiter will explain everything until they redo their menus to include descriptions; I think it was Navaratna Korma). The korma included several vegetables and was served with rice; the sauce was delicate and perfectly seasoned. I asked for no heat and got that; the sweet delicacy of the spices in the dish made it a perfect comfort food for me. I will order it again and again. My companion got a Shrimp Biryani, also delicious. That dish was accompanied by two sauces, one spicy and one a yogurt sauce with red onion. Both were wonderful. I even enjoyed the spicy one! The yogurt sauce was so delicious that I drank what remained when my friend finished her meal! For a starter we ordered the sweet corn soup, a delicious way to start the meal. Again, the soup was perfectly seasoned; nothing was over- or underdone. Corn accompanied by baby pearl onions, I believe, enhanced the soothing, smooth, slightly thick broth. The rice pudding dessert we shared, Rice Kheer, was the final perfect piece of a marvelous meal. I hate to repeat myself, but the delicacy of the spice in the pudding was so pleasing. It is a small serving, but just enough. Again, I will order it over and over. I am so glad Athidi has opened its doors! I was so happy to see an Indian restaurant near my house just open. first time going there and have a really worst experience. food are okay , for me is super salty , I ordered mix veg pakoda, okra fry ( might me a different name in menu) and other kinds of food too, every thing is too saltly. the worst was we find a hair in our first bite in mix veg pakoda. I took aside the first hair and try to enjoy the food but we found it again in the same plate very long and attached with the pakoda and fried. we return that back and again we eat the other food that we already place a order forgetting everything, thinking some time it might happen mistake. and at the end whatever was left over we ask a box for take home and again we found a human hair in tthe chicken fry rice, even in the other food that we order. Do you know what is the interesting thing ? when we show a couple hair in a food to a server he was kind a trying to ignore us . And said no one find any things since they opened and he act like all the hair we found in the food was pretty much we just mixed in our food. I feel so embarrassed to show them the human hair in food because they gave me a looks , that I put the hair in the food. Never going back again. Hoping they'll make sure everything is clean and hygiene from now. feel bad for them. read more
