What's not to love about this gem of a restaurant. Service -- impeccable. We were seated and orders taken in minutes. We got strawberry and mango lassis, both delicious. Then appetizers of cheese and garlic naan, and vegetable pakora. Entrees were lentils, lamb vindaloo (very spicy), gobhi Manchurian and dal maharani. Huge portions. No room for dessert. Got take out from here and the workers were very friendly. Take out portions were decent for the price. I loved the yogurt and Indian chutney sides they included with the meal. We ordered the Chicken Tikka Masala and rice which was good and the spices were perfect. However, the Special Rang Biryani was a bit on the dry side (esp the lamb) and didn't have much chicken. Also, the shrimp did not taste too fresh because I don't think they cleaned the dark vein along the side. That being said, parking wasn't too bad. We parked in the parking lot a bit further down and walked a block to the restaurant. Will be back to try other items on the menu during lunch time to get better pricing. Went for dinner. Very nice cozy plan in a nook of a corner. Good parking spots around the place. I was bit worried right after entering the place since no one was sitting inside however the place was busy with delivery orders that were getting picked up with a good pace. I left the place feeling happy and contented with the food quality and service. Got papad and chutneys to start with which was great. Ordered big basket of assorted bread which came with garlic naan, tandoori roti, plain naan, onion kulcha etc and an excellent deal on small/big basket vs individual orders in case of a picky eater. Bread was hot, fresh and awesome:. Tomatoes soup was hot and decent. Ordered saag paneer and navratan korma -medium Flavor. Excellently prepared and great service. Got the excellent food so quickly. Good Indian food Ordered takeout. Street parking. Got there and food was ready. Small little spot. Quiet on a Saturday afternoon. Got the chicken Tikka Masala spicy. Still hot when got back. Tikka masala is good. I picked the spicy level and it was enough kick to taste the sauce without overpowering. I would order it this way again. Chicken pieces inside are plenty and they are big pieces. I wished they were half the size for bite size. Chicken is cooked well and still moist inside. No complaint on rice and chutney. Look at the color on those curries!! Got a chance to stop at Rang Indian Bistro, a local restaurant in Boston and was absolutely blessed at amazing, quality food. I ordered one of my personal favorites, Lamb Vindaloo, and my coworker ordered the chicken curry. I was definitely sweating from the spice, but it was delicious, especially with their fresh naan. The bite of chicken curry was also quite yummy . The samosa appetizer was also really good. $10.95 for the Vindaloo and $9.95 for the Chicken Curry, esp for the quantity, is an absolute deal during lunch hours. 5/5 read more

I often visit the plaza in which Rang is located, however only recently did I have to opportunity to stop in and try their weekend lunch buffet. Food: Good, standard buffet quality Indian food. Enjoyed the variety of meat and veg options. Come hungry! Service: Helpful and friendly, but unfortunately was relatively slow for the emptiness of the dining area and number of servers. Overall, a positive experience with no complaints about the food or environment. Would come back in a pinch however the price is slightly higher than other Indian buffets in the area. read more

Average food with average hospitality! Things we ordered: Kalmi Kebab: 5/10 Presented really well on a sizzling platter however it didn't taste as good as it looked Overcooked hard chicken. Malai Kofta: Decent flavors. 6/10. The cardamom in the curry overpowered the taste. The Kalmi Kebab was not taken off the bill even when we informed the staff about the overcooked chicken. Rang has been sliding in quality for a few years now but I've been willing to overlook the minor dip in quality because they deliver to where I am. But the food I am tasting today is beyond horrible. The samosa's are flat out bland, as in zero salt, and taste chewy and doughy. I realize that real Indian food takes a long time to prepare as I have spent years learning to cook it myself. So I understand that the meat is not prepared with the curry itself and that there will be a noticeable difference when compared to what restaurants can deliver because they have to combine the meat with the curry on demand as opposed to cooking together. But the lamb I am tasting is flat out bland and boiled. Absolutely awful and flavorless. There is zero harmony here and it tastes fake and assembled - which it very clearly is. The curry is now so crude in the extreme that I can see large chunks of half cooked onion mixed in. So, not only is the quality getting bad, the effort has diminished as well. Terrible. I'm just going to drive to Wakefield to get good Indian now. The trade off between "ok" and delivered is no longer acceptable. Sad. read more

Ok we were very impressed with our food. The vegetarian samosas were over the top. The rice was so good I can eat it on its own. The chicken tandoori was so smoky and juicy. We also ordered chickpeas, lentils and peas: all were superb. The lamb Rogan Josh and Chicken Korma were good though the vegetarian dishes outshined the meat. I ordered medium spice as I didn't want it to be too hot, but I could have gotten it hotter. There were some folks at a nearby table who probably shouldn't have been out for Indian food at all as they were asking for 0 spice. Dude - go eat some plain noodles then. Lol Anyway - the service was meh. I ordered food right away, but said I needed a moment to look at the wine list. They never came back to see if I wanted wine. So... I just drank water. I also had to flag them down to get the check and again to take my credit card. The place wasn't full and it just seemed like customer service wasn't their thing. They even gave us dessert on the house ..the restaurant itself looked beautiful but the naan and biryani and chicken tikka masala was delicious the lamb kebabs was all meat no fat ! My husband appreciates that .. overall delicious food but just a bit pricey .. I mean the bill was 90 bucks for just one app and two dinners .. that's a lot but overall the food was delicious so definitely worth it read more

Great takeout food. Ordered online and it was ready when I showed up at a table. They had the door open for ventilation and it was easy to get my food and go. There were no indoor dining folks to dodge, which is nice if you're trying to minimize contact with people. Parking-wise, there is 15 minute street parking on the fire station side of the block that wasn't too busy when I went. As far as the flavor goes, everything was good without being overpowering. I think that getting pakora, samosa, aloo tikki and cheese pakora in the vegetable appetizer is a deal for what you get and still had a good and crisp texture despite being fried takeout. The Chicken Tikka Masala was delicious, though the chicken could be just a touch softer. I'd definitely get it again despite that because again, delicious. The garlic naan was good, but wasn't crispy, though I know this is a challenge for takeout food. I'd also still get it if I was in the mood for garlic naan. I wasn't sure if the chutneys are included by default or if they come with something I ordered, but the hot one had some nice spice and crunch to it, and the sweet one was also good. Rang Indian Bistro is one of the best Indian restaurants that I have ever been to. Whenever I'm in town it's a must-visit for my family and I. Rang is a fantastic dining experience from top to bottom. First, the delicious food. I have never had a dish here that was even a hair below delicious. From the lamb Rogan Josh to the Malai Kofta (a vegetarian curry with fried veggies in a yellow cashew spiced sauce) to the Chicken Tikka Masala (a classic and a crowd pleaser) to the side of onion chutney to the strawberry lassi...10/10!! The atmosphere is relaxing with some pleasant subtle background music and it's not too loud despite it being popular and busy. I will continue to recommend this restaurant to my local friends and look forward to returning soon! read more

I ordered my typical sniff test dishes as I scope a new Indian joint :) The ubiquitous veggie samosa - theirs was flat, greasy and lacked any real flavor The slightly bold twist of a typical mixed vegetables dish - the vindaloo - this was over the top spicy - the kind of flaming raw spice that burns the palate and wreaks havoc on the stomach! Perhaps they made assumptions on my preferences - not writing them off entirely but this was a strike one! [MY RATING: 84%] Rang Indian Bistro is a great addition to the North Shore culinary scene--really consistently good Indian food, but dinner portions aren't huge. Atmosphere (8/10): Located on a weird wedge-shaped peninsula of sorts, the restaurant is narrow but invitingly cozy. Ambient lighting and curtains all around make for a pleasant setting. Food (8.5/10): I've always only ordered the North Indian comfort-food here (creamy, sweet, mild, etc.), so I can only speak to that. Really good flavors shine through, but I do wish that perhaps they would include a bit more meat and just larger portions overall. If you were to spoon out all the delicious gravy/sauce, the amount of substantive foodstuff left is not all that much--although still okay. Portions are somewhat limited, but the bowls they serve the dishes in hold, in my experience, always a little bit more than they may initially appear to. Hygiene (7.0/10): Decent, standard bathroom. Not the fanciest or most modern, but definitely does the job. It's quite dark, especially as you progress deeper into the narrow recesses of the restaurant to get to the bathroom, so I suppose it is a bit hard to judge either way. Tables have always been clean and tidy when I've been there to dine in. Price (7/10): Standard to above-average pricing as far as Indian food goes, and the portions are not that big--you get served a smallish semispherical ramekin of each dish. Location (7/10): You have to park across the street and then take the crosswalk to get to the restaurant on an "island." Parking is generally fine though, and the Stoneham thoroughfare is a quaint backdrop. Service (10/10): The staff has always been welcoming, nice, and also funny--I can definitely remember a staff member behind the bar cracking a good-natured joke or two about the ridiculous Bollywood show playing on their TV. Overall: Solidly above-average Indian fare, and their North Indian offerings are spot-on. I do wish, though, that their portions were slightly larger. Went there after reading some good reviews... my wife and I got take out and one word to describe is "meh"... not really anything special , I eat a lot of Indian food and have had much better. I have been meaning to review Rang for some time. We often work late in the Stoneham area and order from Rang takeout. The food is consistently delicious and well-seasoned. The potato appetizers are delicious. Not greasy--yay! The lamb dishes are excellent. So many times the amount of lamb in Indian dishes is stingy and/or gristly greasy, but not at Rang. Their meat is fresh and lean. I believe it is family-owned. Our order is always ready on time. Hoping they survive the COVID months and that we can eat inside some day soon. read more

I really wish I didn't have to leave this review, but I wanted to make sure prospective customers were informed. We ordered takeout from Rang as we were craving Indian food. However, while the food appeared decent, once we started eating we noticed that it was completely devoid of flavor. When you order Indian food you expect to receive a dish full of flavor, tasting the various spices like saffron, and having a spicy dish. The food was just basically plain rice with absolutely zero flavoring. Not really surprising, as every time we've walked past the restaurant it has been empty; never a good sign when restaurants nearby are completely full. I strongly encourage people to stay away from this restaurant and instead order from Maya Indian Bar and Grill if you would like authentic Indian with the flavor that Indian food is known for. read more

We ordered the paneer chilly for main course with chapati and onion kulcha. The paneer looked to be red in food color. Surprisingly the onion mulch a was good but the chapati was the frozen chapati. Met a friend here for lunch on a cold, rainy Sunday afternoon. Easy free parking across the street. From the moment I walked in, I knew I was in the right place - a window seat, a fresh carafe of masala chai, papadum, and chutney. Lunch was malai kofta and lamb rogan josh, followed by shared ras malai. Perfection. Great food in comfortable setting, very friendly and accommodating wait staff, no hurry, no worry. Tasty and amazing food, as always. We decided to get Indian for the Super Bowl. Much better than the normal chicken wings and pizza. I've been coming to Rang since moving to the area almost eight years ago and they are just so so so good. They remember me which is always so nice. It's great to go in and feel like you're recognized! I was challenged though this last visit to be less boring so next order is going to be totally changed up.
