Mango Martini- MUST HAVE!
Casey L.

We are frequent fliers here. I'm not terribly adventurous, but I love the Tikka Masala & the Garlic Naan. Today we went for the Sunday Buffet (11:30-2:30) and it was great to try little bits of dishes that I normally wouldn't order. I tried the goat dish & a friend lentil appetizer today and was pleasantly surprised. Service is always great. Staff is super friendly and attentive. The restaurant itself is always clean, and comfortable.

Mango Martini $12.00 & Tributary Pale Ale $8.50

In reading a few reviews DH and I decided to go to the great foodie town of Kittery, ME and have dinner at Tulsi on Walker Street. We walked in and were seated right away even though we didn't have a reservation. The dining room was decorated very nicely in traditional Indian decor. DH and I tend to order and share an appetizer and entrée as we don't eat as much as we use to so... Mango Martini $12.00 strong as martinis usually are but very tasty Tributary Pale Ale $8.50... DH likes any kind of beer :) Cauliflower 65 - $9.75 Chicken Tikka Masala - $19.00 chicken breast with creamy sauce very yummy Tulsi green salad - $11.00... very very good lots of cut up vegi's, cheese, walnuts, fruit... really good salad This place has many vegetarian options with the influence of my DS (dear son) I'm choosing a lot less red meat and a lot more vegetables lately! We will definitely return to this restaurant thanks to our server Reese and pleasant conversation with Raj the owner.

Lunch portions are about $11 on average

Raj is the owner. He is almost always on the floor and stops by to chat with patrons. He is passionate about his food and wants you to leave satisfied. I've learned that some other Indian restaurants sweeten their dishes, or add inauthentic ingredients to appeal to the American palate. Tulsi tries to be as authentic as possible. The quality of ingredients is noticeable. They serve White Heron tea which is delicious.

We've been enjoying the food here at Tulsi for some time now, and happy to report that it is still just as good as we recall now that we've had a chance to return for in house dining. Takeout was also very good last winter. You should know that they are very short staffed and have posted signage accordingly and out waitress advised when we arrived. That said, we noticed no issues with food coming out from the kitchen, or from our waitress. We enjoyed the fried cauliflower, however it did seem a bit spicier/hotter than I recall on previous visits. Chicken tikka masala is one of our favorites here with buttery tender chicken and a delicious sauce, perfect to wipe up with Naan. Cocktails are very tasty here as well. The menu has not changed much, if at all over the years, but there is still plenty to explore.

Our large party with the owner, Raj

I'm from NYC and often disappointed with the quality of restaurants when travelling. However, the food, service and ambience at Tulsi are all first class. The owner Raj is very attentive and hospitable. He recommended special dishes for our large party to share after understanding our preferences. We had such a memorable experience, by the end of the meal we even were asking him to be in our photos!

Plain naan, yellow dal, (forgot what my husband ordered)

Everyone was nice and the inside was large and spacious. The food was delicious but a bit sad they didn't have roti :( but the plain naan was fine and the yellow dal was ok (might go with medium spice as the mild had almost no flavor)

Menu, part one, July 2021.

It's a Wednesday in July 2021. The pandemic is waning as people get vaccinated, but it's not over enough that I want to spend too much more time unmasked around strangers indoors. Since take-out is workable here, we chose take-out. Our first plan was to phone in our order: chicken tikka masala, palak paneer, garlic nan, and Peshawar nan. But we got a bad connection, so no luck. We tried an on-line order, and kept getting a weird error message about CAPTCHA, and gave up. My wife phoned in again, mentioned error message problem, and the person on the phone asked whether we were trying to pay with American Express. (Yes.) That's probably what was wrong. By that point, we were almost to the restaurant, so the boy and I went in to order in person. They said they weren't very busy, but the nan would still take up to 25 minutes. They asked whether we were OK with waiting in a corner at the end of the bar. We were masked, and away from other people, so no problem. I gave my phone number in case the boy got squirrelly, but he was patient enough -- and the food was ready in about 15 minutes. The food was nicely packaged for take-out. They didn't include plastic forks, which is good environmental practice. The entrees and rice were each packed in a reusable plastic container; the nan was wrapped in aluminum foil and paper. The works were in a paper bag. My palak paneer was a very mild "medium", as the guy taking the order had warned; New England medium is Seattle extra mild. My boy wouldn't have had a problem with it, but he wasn't interested in the spinach. The spices other than hot spices were very good, and nicely balanced, but also milder than I'm used to. The sauce was just a little on the runny side. The cheese was excellent. I tasted my wife's tikka masala, and it was excellent. She said that one of the pieces of chicken was quite overcooked though. Both types of nan were good too. Although we didn't get the full sit-down dining experience, I got a look inside. The atmosphere is nice. Most of the employees looked like they were not of Indian ancestry. (Nothing wrong with that; cuisine  is not restricted by ancestry. I know a good Italian restaurant owned by a Chinese family. That's why I note it as an atmosphere observation.) Take-out service was excellent. If this restaurant were in metro Seattle, up against over 200 other Indian restaurant, I might rate it only a three star "A-OK". But we're in Kittery Maine, where it's one of four or five Indian restaurants within an hour's drive. That's worth an extra star, to "Yay! I'm a fan." Thanks to the hotel desk worker (from India) who suggested it to us.

Delicious food and great service! Plenty of vegan options as well! My husband and I are becoming regulars here now

Please don't order Kadai paneer. We asked for medium and they added so much curry powder / garam masala. Worst kadai paneer I ever had.

Shalimar in Portsmouth is better. We had Chicken Korma and Tikka Masala. Not very flavorful and chicken was rubbery.

Got the Sunday buffet. Sampled a bit of everything. Good food and good service. They didn't have any paneer dishes in the buffet, though.

We dined fairly early on a Friday evening and the restaurant quickly filled up. Since they are not located on the beach, there is plenty of parking. This location was formerly a pizza hut, but they did a nice job converting to a pleasant dining room. Service was very friendly, pleasant and efficient, and we enjoyed all the food we ordered. As others mention, portions are large (we took food home), and we found the prices to be fair, given the ever increasing cost of food lately. We started with an order of Pakora and onion bhaji. When the dish arrived I thought we were given the wrong order as the plate had what looked like patties, and not the usual shape of these items that we have had at other Indian restaurants. Appearance aside, we found them to taste as we expected. Perhaps a regional difference? We stuck to some of the more common dishes we have ordered so that we could compare to other restaurants. Chicken Tikka Masala and Palak Paneer were both delicious. The menu has everything that you might expect as well as some dishes I've not had. Extensive Biryani and Tandoori offerings as well. We are looking forward to trying some new dishes when we visit again. Give them a try, something new and different for Hampton!

But finally I did and boy am I happy. Very much a family affair - husband and wife who share maitre'd and server responsibilities. And other relatives in the kitchen cooking up a storm. What first grabbed my attention were the huge number of dosas they offer. Seeing any dosa on a menu at all is a rarity and so to see the wide variety they feature was amazing. I opted for the Andhra Kara Masala and it was excellent. The dosa itself crispy and warm and the condiments beautifully integrated. We opted for the mixed veggie pakoras as an appetizer on the recommendation of the owner and they were served warm and crispy. The batter was light - nothing like the thick sludge that usually adorns the deep fried nuggets of vegetable delight. The accompanying tamarind sauce was sweet and clean and the mint-cilantro suitably refreshing. Lovey got garlic naan and saag paneer. Smooth and creamy, the saag was exactly as hoped for and the garlic naan was chewy, warm and toothsome. Dessert was carrot halwa. Hard to believe carrots make such an excellent warm dessert but they do. Richly satisfying with just the right touch of sweetness. We look forward to returning and sampling the rest of the menu!

It's a place his dad has taken him to before and he loves it! We go for Indian food occasionally and we like it, so off we went to Salem NH. Grandson ordered a dosa for all of us as an appetizer, something with chopped onions, it was pretty good. My dish was the saag paneer, which I ordered what they call "American spicy." Spicy? Not! If I go back, I'd order Indian Medium Spicy! My husband liked his chana masala. Both were served with white rice. My son-in-law had a korma dish, I don't remember which one, Indian medium spicy, loved it, and he ordered garlic naan. We ordered roti. My grandson is gluten free and dairy free. I don't remember what he ate, but he's all in when he's predisposed to liking something, so I only remember that he was happy with it! We love the carrot halwa at our local favorite Indian restaurant in midtown Manhattan, so we ordered it for all 4 of us. It was much sweeter than we're used to; tasty but too sweet to finish. Anyway, it's a good local choice up there and my grandson chose it again just the other day for his birthday dinner out!
