Inside - Destination India

My father and I decided to try out this place based on the high review scores. Upon entering, the place seemed very nice with some soft Indian music playing in the background. There weren't very many customers at all in the place, in the early afternoon. So, we were able to pick anywhere we wanted to sit. Pretty typical menu and selections for both carnivores and vegetarians. I ordered the chicken tikka masala and an onion kulcha. My father ordered the bindhi masala and a butter naan. After we ordered, I assumed that they would bring us some popadoms with chutney. But, to my surprise, they didn't bring us anything. This is the first Indian restaurant I have ever been to, that doesn't give that to their customers. It's like going to a Mexican restaurant and not getting chips and salsa lol So, after about 20 minutes, the food arrived. It was fresh and I could tell that they use good quality ingredients. The rice was just plain basmati rice and nothing special. The onion kulcha looks very nice, but it was a lot thinner than I'm used to, and really didn't have any taste at all. I felt like I was just eating an overpriced naan. The same theme translated into the food. Though very fresh, hot, and quality ingredients... it had absolutely zero flavor, whatsoever. I am thinking that the chef is allergic to salt. I also ordered it medium spiced, and it was below mild. Additionally, it was freaking loaded with heavy cream! Chicken tikka masala is supposed to be a tomato-based dish. If you can taste anything that resembles the flavor of tomatoes in that dish, your taste buds deserve an academy award. If you would've blindfolded me, I would have thought you were literally feeding me cubed chicken with yogurt or something. If you go there, I would also order it hot as hell, because it's bad enough the food had no flavor, but to be that incredibly mild spiced, at an Indian restaurant, was kind of disappointing. My father said his bindhi masala was also so very bland. He didn't really eat much of his at all, and decided to ask for a box to bring it home. He said he's gonna try to spice it up and add some flavor to it at home, instead of eating something bland for the next 30 minutes at the restaurant. I would've done the same thing, but I didn't eat breakfast, because I was expecting this food to be off the hook, based on the high ratings on here and just ate it as-is. Anyway, the place is nice, they do use good quality ingredients, and the servers are nice. The food (or at least these two dishes and onion kulcha we ordered) is unfortunately just extremely bland and lackluster. And definitely don't expect any complementary accoutrements like raita or popadoms. Other than a glass of water and one napkin, don't expect anything else, but your good humor. It was a nice day to drive out to Derry, but I definitely won't ever be returning here. There are SO much better in Indian restaurants in Manchester and Concord.

Flavorful and fresh food with pretty good cocktail offerings. A+ in terms of service and cleanliness. Note: They don't make their food very spicy even when requesting the food to be "Indian" hot.

We went there for lunch. Ambience is ok, nice bar. Service was good. Waiter was attentive. Food was good. We had Gobhi manchurian- ok, Malai kofta - good, Kasmiri lamb curry - good, Garlic naan- good. Overall i will recommend this place for food. Will definitely visit if in vicinity and try other options.

Yellow Dal (D, G, N, V) is the way to go. Order garlic naan while you're at it.

Our go to Indian restaurant in NH. Great food, great staff. Love it. I always order the cauliflower appetizer, yellow dal and chicken tikka masala as the main dishes and extra garlic naan to round it all off.

We stopped in for lunch today. This place is a 30 minute drive from our home, but were curious as to how they managed to average five stars for 65 ratings on Yelp. The restaurant is located in an older downtown building in Derry. For the restaurant facilities itself, we would rate as a four. It was clean but clearly quite old and used. We were immediately greeted and shown to our table. Our waiter was nice and helped is clarify some things on the menu. We both ordered mango lassis, then the Malai Kafta and Chicken Saag. It took around 15-20 minutes to get out food. That indicated it was being cooked rather than just reheated in a microwave. Our lassis were very good. You could taste the mango and the yogurt made them smooth. Our dishes likewise were very good. They arrived spicy hot as we ordered and thermally hot since they put the serving dishes in the oven. My wife and I both agreed that the food was a five. My wife is not Indian. However, she cooks great Indian food. We had lamb saag for dinner the night before. It's hard to fool her with Indian food. We will definitely return to this restaurant.

Incredibly authentic Indian cuisine. Roy makes the absolute best cocktails! We always get chicken 65, lamb curry, naan is to die for, tandoori chicken, butter chicken, samosas! Yum! Awesome food! Awesome service!

I love the garlic rotti here! So good, and fresh. The food is decent and a lot for a portion. They have a bar section here too, however I would not recommend the cocktails here. It tastes like the bartender doesn't know how to make drink.

The hubby and I decided to try Indian food, and due to the positive reviews we decided to try Destination India. We were not disappointed, the food, drinks, prices and service were all great. I didn't care for the shrimp dishes we had, however the butter chicken and gulab jamun dessert were fantastic.

Cauliflower, 65 BEST!

Wonderful restaurant that raises the standard in this part of New England for Indian cuisine. It…read morewas a bit out of my usual neighborhood and so it took a while to uncover. But finally I did and boy am I happy. Very much a family affair - husband and wife who share maitre'd and server responsibilities. And other relatives in the kitchen cooking up a storm. What first grabbed my attention were the huge number of dosas they offer. Seeing any dosa on a menu at all is a rarity and so to see the wide variety they feature was amazing. I opted for the Andhra Kara Masala and it was excellent. The dosa itself crispy and warm and the condiments beautifully integrated. We opted for the mixed veggie pakoras as an appetizer on the recommendation of the owner and they were served warm and crispy. The batter was light - nothing like the thick sludge that usually adorns the deep fried nuggets of vegetable delight. The accompanying tamarind sauce was sweet and clean and the mint-cilantro suitably refreshing. Lovey got garlic naan and saag paneer. Smooth and creamy, the saag was exactly as hoped for and the garlic naan was chewy, warm and toothsome. Dessert was carrot halwa. Hard to believe carrots make such an excellent warm dessert but they do. Richly satisfying with just the right touch of sweetness. We look forward to returning and sampling the rest of the menu!

It's a place his dad has taken him to before and he loves it! We go for Indian food occasionally and we like it, so off we went to Salem NH. Grandson ordered a dosa for all of us as an appetizer, something with chopped onions, it was pretty good. My dish was the saag paneer, which I ordered what they call "American spicy." Spicy? Not! If I go back, I'd order Indian Medium Spicy! My husband liked his chana masala. Both were served with white rice. My son-in-law had a korma dish, I don't remember which one, Indian medium spicy, loved it, and he ordered garlic naan. We ordered roti. My grandson is gluten free and dairy free. I don't remember what he ate, but he's all in when he's predisposed to liking something, so I only remember that he was happy with it! We love the carrot halwa at our local favorite Indian restaurant in midtown Manhattan, so we ordered it for all 4 of us. It was much sweeter than we're used to; tasty but too sweet to finish. Anyway, it's a good local choice up there and my grandson chose it again just the other day for his birthday dinner out!

Saturday night, ~8ish, date night with the spouse. Walked in…read moreand the place had exactly three tables occupied -- which in restaurant math = peace, quiet, and zero chaos. My kind of nightlife. Full transparency: We declined the bread. Yes... IK. A cardinal sin. A culinary betrayal. But after a certain age, carbs stop being your friend and start acting like that shady acquaintance who convinces you to make bad life choices. So we stayed strong. Mostly. AMBIANCE: Simple, cozy, chandeliers doing their little sparkle thing. Nothing over-the-top. A calming video montage with meditation music playing that had me halfway to enlightenment before our entree's arrived. Kept us entertained of guessing what part of the world the videos were from - Dubai I knew for sure SERVICE: Pleasant. Attentive without hovering like a helicopter parent. Waters pro-actively refilled often, and our waitress offered more rice like she knew my carb boundaries are weak. Respect. FOOD: Entree's: Lamb kabobs (medium) Shrimp tandoori Marsala (regular) Listen... I could've just ordered a vat of that masala sauce and a spoon and called it dinner. Creamy, perfect texture, medium spice level that said "hello" w/out choosing violence. The kabobs didn't look appetizing to me, and appeared tough to chew and cut, but no verbal complaints from my better half (shrug). My only disappointment: I was so busy living in the moment (and inhaling my food) that I forgot to take photos of the entrées. Not en "elite" move, IK! Also... it's Indian food, so let's all be honest: Plan your evening activities accordingly. Proceed with caution if you're strolling the streets of #ManchVegas later. #IYKYK

Consistently good Indian food!…read more I have been to a number of Indian joints in New Hampshire and Taj India is one of the ones that I have been back to multiple times. The staff are friendly, they are quick to take your order, ask if you need additional items, ASK how your meal has been, and offer dessert at the end of the meal. These may be common things expected at a restaurant, but you see this a lot less frequently these days. They are in a great location in downtown Manchester and have plenty of seating. I have have eaten in every time except one time when I had a friend bring me take-out while I was sick with COVID. The meal traveled extremely well and if I was in a bind, I'd certainly opt for take-out again. I have not experienced the lunch buffet, every time I visit, it is after buffet hours. However, I do hope to try it some time soon. I haven't been disappointed by anything lately, the biggest complaint that I had was when a Samosa had a cool core, but I do understand that some food has to be prepared in advance and I'd rather have a cool center than an overcooked exterior.
