Great spices and flavors, okay service, cozy ambiance. Being unfamiliar with the menu, we stated we needed some time and felt a bit overwhelmed. The server came back 3 times asking if we were ready in a brief time span -- I am not sure what the rush was, the place was almost empty when we first sat down. We ordered some cocktails and got the pork chili momos and chicken and goat thali. The food was very good, lots of big flavors and the goat was nice and tender. The chili momos had some nice heat and were quite large. My cocktail was extremely sweet and I figured out they had given me the wrong one - they offered to make the right one, but we were nearly done so I declined. I'd return to try more food, but would recommend asking for help right off the bat if you're not sure about the menu.

Based on Yelp reviews, this place got my attention. I loved everything about this place and what a great find in Stoneham. Place is easy to get to and they have plenty of parking. We got there mid afternoon and the place was not busy. We greeted and seated almost immediately. It was a super pleasure to have Sandesh as a server and what a super nice and helpful man. Not only did he treat us well but also explained a lot about Nepali food and culture as we asked. He checked on us often as his way to make sure that everything was going well and if we had any questions. I learned that water buffalo(buff) is one of the favorite proteins in Nepal. We were informed that they get the meat from a farm in NY and that they like to keep to authentic flavors. For an appetizer we went for the buff pan fried momos. We had both spicy and non-spicy dipping sauces since I prefer non-spicy. I found the sauce delicious and the buff to be an interesting protein that I would try again. For my main course I went for the chicken thali after learning that it is one of their traditional meals. You get a little bit of everything including dessert - a delicious greek yogurt mixed with green cardamom and coconut. Our server mentioned that if we wanted anything extra (except for the protein) that they would be happy to bring it. We had tons of leftovers because we tried several dishes and asked if we could have more rice and they provided a complimentary container when our food was packed. Place is super clean and has beautiful Nepali decorations. Even your bill is brought in a wooden box with Nepali carvings. There was soft music playing in the background. We were curious about the hot pot tables but were informed that they were left by the previous restaurant but that they don't offer hot pot. The women's bathroom is cleverly decorated with Nepali scenes and has a beautiful authentic faucet. Our server informed us that on Wednesdays and Thursdays they offer what he described as Nepali street food. Selected dishes are $5 except for a a whole fried fish that is $10. We might have to check them out one of these days. An overall great and unique find!

Beautiful and well crafted cocktails full of balanced flavors

I will rarely turn down an opportunity to visit a Himilayan/Nepalese restaurant. Ailaa lived up to the "review hype" I saw before coming. The decor was charming, the cocktails were beautiful and delicious. My biggest regret was that we weren't in a larger dinner party, so that we could have sampled more menu options on that first visit. Those drinks - I sent photos to some of my cocktail loving/making friends, and they were really impressed and a little envious. Just like meals in that part of the world, the cocktails seem to be crafted to provide a balance of flavors. The deep fried wings were delicious, and I couldn't get enough of the momos. Everything we ordered that night was served with the same flavorful sauce, with just enough kick to be satisfying. I asked our waitress what we should do if we wanted things even spicier, and she replied that on request, they will give you spicier sauces on the side. It was an absolute pleasure to dine here, and I look forward to coming back.

Small, cozy, and decent place to eat. We ordered chicken chili momos and a chicken sizzler. The momos were good, but we didn't like the taste of the noodles in the sizzler platter. We also felt the platter looked a bit pale. We didn't order any drinks. The service was good. The best part is that its open till midnight.

First walking up to the restaurant I was a little leery but once I stepped inside, the vibes were right. The service was amazing, the drinks were odd but delicious. I got myampakhaa, the4 shots in the box and my friend got lastai piro, a sweet pineapple drink that was great. I got the wild boar or "bandel" and was super impressed with the flavor and tenderness of the meat. My friend got goat thali and everything had such amazing flavors! I have never had Himalayan food before but I think this was the perfect place to start.

On the way to the Stone Zoo, decided to check out this local spot. From the moment you enter the restaurant it had a nice vibe, everything neatly arranged and clean, and quickly seated. Never having had Nepalese cuisine before, our server Sandesh was a great guide! I ordered Buff Momo, Goat Taas and Goat Thali. Drink of choice, Paan Ko Paat. The first dish to arrive was the Goat Taas. This is a grilled dish with lots of spices, though not necessarily spicy. It came with puffed rice, wow! The fried pickled something, whatever it was, it was delicious! The Goat Thali came out next. This was a simmered dish with LOTS of spice. Meat was tender and sauces and spices perfectly flavorful. The spicyness does add up so the rice, lentil soup and spinach were welcome "cool down" treats. The lentil soup was good, just don't expect whole lentils. Spinach was nicely cooked without being overly seasoned so the flavor comes through. The Buff Momo was last to come out. My first time having the protein, reminds me of pork with the after taste of game meats like bison and boar. The dipping sauce was a nice fresh taste that compliments the Momo, aka dumplings. As for the cocktail, this was the biggest surprise. Was fresh and aromatic, nutty flavor of fennel and herby notes from the mint. Perfect compliment to the meal as it breaks up the spice from the dishes and leaves you with a refreshed taste. Overall a great place and our server was top notch as well as the rest of the staff! They checked on us consistently throughout the meal and refilled waters. Definitely coming back to try more of the menu!

First time Himalayan food for me so I can't really compare it to any other Himalayan food. I had Goat Thali to eat and Lastai Piro to drink. My friend had Raat Ki Rani to drink. Service was good. The food took awhile but was full of flavor and food portion sizes. The drinks were also good and very unusual presentation. There wasn't any live music on the night we went but it seems it's too small of a space for live music. It would be very loud.

    Paan ko pat

Scrumptious food and mind blowing drinks! The chicken cholia was beautifully seasoned. The momos were delicious too. Tried chicken Bara for the 1st time and that was probably my least favorite dish. A slightly acquired taste. But what surprised me were the drinks. I had the Lastai Piro and Paan ko Pat. Both were so good especially the paan drink. Cant wait to go back to try the Chatamari and Thupka!

Food was delicious and the server had great recommendations. Super cute and aesthetic restaurant with cool decor. Perfect for a date night. We had the goat taas, Buffalo Chatamari, and aloo chop. Chatamari was excellent but forgot to snap a pic!

I came in at about 2:00 pm wanting something I have never tried before. I noticed a drum set and speakers in a corner of the restaurant. I don't know what this place is like in the evenings. From what I gathered a lot of the recipes are from Nepal. I had the beef dumplings and the chicken dumplings pan fried. They were unbelievable. I had the Napal Margarita and it was spicy and good (if you don't like the spicy then get it without). This is a must if you are in the area.

Myampakhaa - 4 shots from Nepal. Raat Ki Rani - an old fashion spin off to die for. Amazing presentation and great taste.

The restaurant was comfy; there was an electric fireplace on the wall which made the room feel homey. We got fried pork momos, which were delicious and juicy. I was interested in trying the C-style, but we had a non-spice eater at the table. I got the pork chili from the appetizer menu and garlic naan for my meal, and my companions got the chow mein and sekuwa. The chow mein looked standard and sekewa was grilled chicken served with puffed rice (looked like rice krispies). Everyone was happy with their meals, but I especially loved mine. There were slices of pork belly in a flavorful sauce with tomatoes, onions, and bell peppers. Note that the pork belly still has the skin on it (which I personally love). My only complaint was at medium, the food seemed mild, but I'll be clearer of my spice preferences next time. I would definitely come back specifically for the pork chili!

Decent South Asian and Nepalese place with surprisingly a karaoke night!…read more The bara is a fried pancake of sorts, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The dipping sauce was good as well, possibly a mint-like flavor. The pork momos were really good too, with nice crimping on the skin and decent fillings inside. The chicken vindaloo was decent, though I might have liked more specificity to the flavoring of the vindaloo. The potatoes were nicely textured. The chicken bites were a bit large, they could have been chopped up a bit. The gorkhali khasi (a goat curry) was fairly decent with tender nice pieces. The flavoring was oversalted and again could have used a tad more definition. The bone-in aspect was appreciated as it held the flavor of the meat. The bhindi masala (okra) was fairly successful with a solid infusion of flavor into the okra. The dish was overall too oily though and some steps need to be taken to minimize the oil. All in all quite enjoyable!

This is due partly to another party ahead of us not leaving promptly, but I think the restaurant could have been ready ahead of us as well. I will admit that I enjoyed the ambiance - it had nice low lighting with contemporary decor which made a nice dinner spot. The service in terms of both the waiters and kitchen did not feel timely either. It took a while for drinks to arrive and there were barely any water refills in general. We ordered four different dishes on our side of the table and they were somewhat bland. The vegetable momos definitely need some kind of sauce since they were lacking in flavor. We also got a curry chicken thigh, beef noodles, and butter tofu. I think only the beef noodles had a good enough flavor profile and kick to them. I was also surprised that the portion sizes weren't close to what you would expect for the price. I think with so many good south Asian spots in the area, it's hard to recommend Martsa. I might consider coming back if I learn that there is a particular dish that I am missing out on.
