A fairly ornately decorated place with a strong flavor profile, and a variety of menu options. The appetizer with the sauces and the papadum was decent, although one of the sauces was really strong (I think it had something like a raw onion in it). The saag paneer (spinach and cheese) was nicely spiced, with an opportunity to taste out the flavors of the spinach. The cheese was nicely flavored as well. The chicken tikka masala was creamy, with a nice set of spices and something a bit extra in the flavoring that made it a bit unique. I would have liked to see a greater volume of chicken pieces, but the pieces that I did get were tender and cooked nicely. The okra (Bhindi Bhuna) was really nicely flavored. But the okra itself was too stringy, with a mix of hard bits and tough bits. The okra needs to be significantly more tender. All in all a nice meal! Excellent service also. read more

Ordered takeout based on reviews. Very disappointed. Pickup service was prompt and the restaurant has good decor and ambience. There is street parking in front, but can be pretty busy most part of the day. Food order fell short and did not taste good even though they are priced bit higher than most restaurants around. Plain naan ($4) & Tandoori roti ($6) were both partially cooked and tasted sour, not good overall. Lamb-do-pyaza ($20) lamb meat cooked with onions, bell pepper and spices was jacked up with chilli powder to make it spicy and lacked flavor. The onions tasted a bit stale too. read more

My review has changed having just visiting this place again for a Saturday late lunch. It was fresh, healthy and delicious. The lamb saag was perfect being able to taste the ginger without a lot of cream and fresh spinach. Clearly marked gluten free dishes with multiple to choose from except the momos but my friend loved them. We were very pleased. Happy I gave it another try! read more

The momos are outrageously delicious!!!! Hot and perfect, and the sauce is amazing. BUT...$15 for 8??? That's $2 for a DUMPLING!!!! Biden's economy or no, I probably won't order from here again. Even the vegetarian samosas, which are impossible to mess up, had a thick skin which had way too much dough. I wanted to cry. $58.15...completely unbelievable. Almost $60 for a subpar meal. Please. Himalayan Bistro is a very accommodating restaurant and a delicious choice! It has a simple decor a and a bit of a dark (as in dimly lit) ambiance. A choose to have a cocktail - the Himalayan green that had gin, tequila, and sour apple. Sour apple was the predominant flavor but the cocktail was very drinkable, It came in a martini glass with short straw. My wife and I got the veggie dinner for two with some additional cherry naan. They were nice enough to let us sub-in a banana momo special into it, which was ok with a bit of banana flavor. The predetermined apptizers were 2 veggie samosas (nothing out of ordinary) and a very good Mulligatawny soup. I ordered the Kabuli Chana to be spicy hot and it was great. Imagine a perfectly heated chickpea base with a thick red sauce. Dessert was equally enjoyable. We shared a sweetened carrot cake with milk that was only fine but the milk based balls in honey were fantastic. During the Covid lockdown we tried their takeout and was equally satisfied. The samosas remained the same. The raisin and nut naan was tasty, as was the saag paneer. The lamb curry was even better! My toddler son loved it all. read more

This was my favorite "go to" for Indian food until recently. I placed an order, and days later, I noticed they double charged my credit card. I called and was told thar a manager would call me back. Two days later, I called again and was told that I only placed one order. I again explained that they charged my credit card twice. They said there was nothing they could do since I only placed one order and that I should call my credit card company. I'm sure if they looked at the books, they would see that they were credited twice. I'll be looking for a new place for Indian food. read more

Stopped by here for a late lunch after getting my hair done nearby. It was 3:30 on a Saturday afternoon and the place was empty. A woman was sweeping the floor when I walked in and she just kind of stared at me. I asked if they were open and a young man working there said "yes - have a seat!". I ordered the chicken tikka masala as I had been craving it for a week. The tikka masala came with a side of basmati rice. I was happy with the portion size and the flavor. The rice was well cooked, as was the chicken and the "broth"(?) was creamy and delicious. No complaints! As I was alone, I took in my surroundings. It was an "off" hour for the restaurant and the staff was sitting down to a meal a few tables down. Two other parties came in when I was there and they were greeted with the same blank stare from the waitress. At this point, it was kind of amusing. It was like she didn't know what to do when people walked in or why they were there. She was polite (and refilled my water glass several times), but it was a bit strange. I asked if I could take the rest of my tikka masala and rice to go and she said she would bring me a box. About 5 minutes later, the gentleman waiter collected my plates and said he would box it up for me... Ok! I wasn't in a rush and enjoyed my meal. The lunch specials are the right amount of food for lunch at a great price and there are monthly discounts on the website. Today we got our order home and discovered an item we ordered as vegetarian actually contained chicken. We called to let them know what happened and a short time later the right item was delivered to our door! I went here yesterday with a friend since we had a craving for Indian food. The restaurant is located on Centre Street, which is the main street in West Roxbury, so you can find parking on the streets or in the nearby neighborhoods. I saw that this restaurant has a 10% discount if you check in and a $25 for $20 special through Yelp so I got the latter. The restaurant itself is beautiful, it's one of the most well decorated and fancy looking Indian restaurants that I've been to. They have wonderful curtains and Indian art decorating the walls. The tables with their napkins and silverware arrangement is well done. However, I found the food to be very average. They have three buffet tables. The first is the Chaat table which has various toppings like onions, tomatoes, pickles, cucumber, in addition to Chicken Momo, which is like a dumpling. The second table has more topping, the desserts, which are carrot cake and traditional Indian rice pudding, as well as some sauces and a lentil soup. The last table has the main courses which include Vegetable Pakora, Vegetable Samosa, Tadka Dai, Basmati Rice, Rayo Ko Saan, Novaratna Korma, Aloo Broccoli, Chicken Tikka, Beef Mushroom, and Chicken Tandoori. Each table gets garlic Naan, which was good. My favorites were the Naan, Vegetable Pakora, the toppings, and the chicken momo. For dessert, the Rice Pudding dessert was delicious. I'm a huge meat eater and sauce lover and I usually love Chicken Tikka and Chicken Tandoori. However, the sauce of the Chicken TIkka was very bland and only tasted mildly like tomatoes more than the usual creamy delicious flavor that I'm used to. The Chicken Tandoori was just too try and plain to eat. The service was average, they refilled my drinks and took away the dirty dishes. Nothing special. Overall, I thought this restaurant was okay. It's pretty inside and well organized. They just need to improve the quality of some of their food. I might give this place a second try in the future, but it won't be anytime soon. read more

The first time we tried this place, we got the special all-inclusive dinner, and literally everything tasted like black pepper, from the soup to the curries to the tea- that was the dominant flavor of literally everything. We tried again, and that previous visit must have been an off day because nothing tasted of black pepper and was instead just as it should taste- the korma was korma-y (slightly on the sweeter side but still nicely balanced) and the lamb curry tasted like curry (which kept getting spicier with each bite, at the 'medium' spice level). Overall it's pretty solid, and I have no real major complaints. There are some tiny details that help me favor our usual Indian go-to (their tamarind sauce is much thinner, their naan is a bit on the dense side), but all in all I won't hesitate to add them to our rotation. read more

I stopped by here for lunch, even though I wasn't that hungry. And it's a lunch buffet. I just needed a break and some food during my canvassing. I really should have gone to Los Amigos, which probably would have given me a more reasonable portion of food, but I was already here so whatever. The food is solid - the okra was very good (though oily - I'm sure it's deep fried), but the veggie korma was by far my favorite. The curry was well seasoned, rich, and chock full of zucchinis and mushrooms. My least favorite was the saag paneer, which was a bit bland. Sad, as that is normally my favorite dish. The samosas were also delicious, as was the kheer. The garlic naan took a few minutes to come out, but it was very very good - just the right amount of pillowy soft, and crispy edges. I was really impressed with the naan, actually. Bread is so simple, yet it takes some skill to get such a good texture. I doused everything in the mint chutney. Mmmm. I also had some pineapple and mango, which was offered for dessert. The staff was very nice and I had a pleasant lunch, though I left stuffed to the brim. Not even really going to have dinner tonight. There was also a check-in offer that gave a 10 percent discount, which I used. Spicy, authentic Nepalese/Himalayan/Indo-Chinese cuisine, I've been here 3-4 times and quality has been consistently fresh and spicy for all visits. They have this amazing savory lamb and potato stuffed crepe thing (lamb dosa) that's crispy on the outside. The soft potato with chunks of lamb mix filling is really tasty- borderline comfort/spiced up food. And the little bowl of broth that comes with it: marvelous light curry with peas and other yummy veg bits. If I could have that for lunch everyday... Anyways, portions are pretty substantial but that might be cause I never pace myself properly when I get my hands on their extra hot red sauce and garlic naan. Service is efficient, and friendly/earnest. If you can't decide on a curry: try the vindaloo and just order it with your meat of choice. read more

This is not the first time that the curry's were disappointing.Love to support local but Himalayan has not earned its high rating, at least in my book. read more

Must be new owners. I moved out of the area for a year came back to the bistro this eve and must say I don't even recognize this restaurant. Tonight all of my hot appetizers were incredibly greasy and the paneer fritter was so stale (hard) I could barely bite into it. The mint tamarind and onion chutneys were extended by oils and definitely not fresh. The papadum was stale too. Really I wonder how much worse could it be? This is unfortunate because before May 2021 this was the best Indian restaurant for miles around. read more

My matar paneer-loving companions couldn't eat theirs because it was "heavy and gross." Worst Indian food I've had in the Greater Boston area. Himalayan Bistro is one of my favorite Indian places in the Greater Boston Area. I used to live somewhat near by, and would go somewhat regularly. Even now that I've moved a bit farther away, I'll still periodically make the trek back down. I've never had a problem getting a booth, with or without a reservation. In fact, many nights it seems downright empty. From watching the comings-and-goings, it looks like a lot of their business comes in as takeout orders. Before you order anything, you are given what I believe is papadum, with a trio of chutneys: coriander, tamarind, an onion. All of the chutneys will give a huge boost to the other foods you'll have during the course of your meal. My favorite appetizer from Himalayan Bistro is the coconut soup. Creamy with chunks of shaved coconut, with a strong hint of honey and some notes of cardamom. With a perfectly tangy and savory masala sauce, I've always enjoyed their chicken tikka masala. Big chunks of chicken drenched in sauce, served in a neat pot over a tea light to keep it warm. For science, I can tell you that the pot gets very hot under the tea light... no need to burn yourself... I've done that for you. Depending on what is ordered, they may give the table a big plate of rice to share. It's fragrant and moist, anything but bland. I could eat just the rice itself and be happy; when mixed with the masala sauce, it's amazing. Adding a big spoonful of the onion chutney just sends the flavor through the roof. We usually get a side of garlic naan. One piece is enough for two people, and it's a great vehicle to eat as much of the masala sauce and chutney as you can. The meat is generally sort of dry, and this is where I need to dock a star: every time I've gone, the sauces, the chutneys, and the rice have been amazing. But the meat is always slightly lacking in flavor and is a bit dry. I've tried the chicken, and the lamb several times, and have always had the issue. But clearly, it's not a big enough problem to keep me from going back if I'm in the area. read more

My fiancé and I moved in to the neighborhood pretty recently, we were walking down centre street seeing what was still open(9pm). I poked my head in an asked staff if they were still open and they said yes. We sat down and had the non vegetarian dinner for two. It was delicious, the chutney was very flavorful, the samosas were hot and crispy, the chicken soup was very savory, we had three entrees to share, they are are very good !
