Saag Paneer
Kaitlin C.

Ordered online from here with my sister and husband last week. Online ordering was easy and they had a great variety of menu items. We ordered all of our go-tos; Saag paneer, butter chicken, plain and garlic naan, vegetable samosas, and onion pakora. Pros: The order was ready when we arrived and their dining room was pretty full! my sister and husband loved the butter chicken (although they said it tasted spicier than mild), the vegetable samosas were perfection, the onion pakora tasted like little onion rings, and the garlic naan was super tasty and fluffy! Cons: the saag paneer wasn't quite medium spicy and unfortunately pretty bland overall, I always get plain naan and this somehow tasted ~extra~ plain.

I have visited this place a few times. I am fan of the service, the ambiance, and the food. This restaurant focuses on South Indian style food, which differs markedly from North Indian style food. Their dosas are actually quite good. I have had their masala dosa and spring dosa. I liked their sauces too. The spring dosa is different from the potato-based masala dosa in the sense that it has vegetables in it that you'd typically expect in a spring roll. I liked their chicken manchurian too. This is an Indo-Chinese dish and it had the same flavors that you will find in the streets of India: saucy, spicy, crispy, all with a good dousing of soy sauce. I wasn't a fan of chicken kothu parotta because I prefer the parotta on the side and not mixed in with the gravy. This again isn't your typical parotta but rather the laccha-style of parotta that is prevalent in South India. The multiple layers in the parotta make it crispier and allow it to take on more gravy. The curries themselves are very flavorful and spicy with Andhra style being my clear favorite. Andhra Pradesh is a state in the south of India well known for its spicy food. These curries respect those original flavors.

This place is very affordable and the quality of food is great. Service was also very fast! Between our group, we had the butter chicken, a masala dosa, ghee dosa, and paneer dosa. We also got a Chicken 65 appetizer to share, which was so tender, juicy, and delicious. Everything was so delicious! The dosas were MASSIVE with a hearty amount of filling. My husband said the paneer dosa was like a crispy grilled cheese but elevated. The butter chicken was very creamy and a huge portion. I also got a masala chai for the first time. It was strong and had a deep chocolatey taste, a great way to end the meal. I'll definitely order from here again!

A new South Indian restaurant has opened in Watertown, MA! What an incredible addition to the neighborhood. Coming from NY, where we are lucky to have an abundance of Indian Restaurants, I was truly impressed with this small restaurant. Expect a wait for a table on weekends. They can probably seat around 30 ppl max. Chennai Eats has a wide range of dishes on their menu. Menu items range from Dosas, Parotas, Biryanis, Indo-Chinese dishes, Breads, Meat and Vegetable dishes. It's a pretty large menu for a small fast-casual restaurant. (Seey photo for full menu). My party of 6 shared an enormous amount of food. Yup, the eyes are bigger than our stomaches and we over ordered. But absolutely no complaints! We got to try a variety of items and enjoyed the leftovers! We tried 3 lamb dishes, a goat dish, 3 different Dosas (which were fantastic!) , two chicken dishes, garlic Naan, and a few other dishes. I must say, everything was great except one dish: Onion Pakora appetizer. Our server told us that one order wasn't enough for 6 ppl to share, so we ordered two portions. (One order was enough!) This was my least fave dish of the night. I could barely taste any onion. But everything else was great. Customer service was friendly and efficient. But don't be surprised if you get a little rushed at the end of your meal if there is a line of ppl waiting for a table. Like I mentioned before, this is a small restaurant with limited seating. But well worth the wait!

I stopped by Chennai Eats on Sunday, 11/23/2025 for lunch and the service was efficient and friendly. Food was hot and fresh. I'd recommend ordering the malasa chai and chana masala. I will definitely be back!

A recent addition to Watertown, this establishment has quickly become a popular spot among locals seeking Indian cuisine. With limited tables in a small dining area, the wait to be seated has been quite long during peak dining hours. Not to mention, the food also took a little bit longer than usual with the continuous take out and delivery orders streaming out the door. All of these were expected of a place that has gained popularity so quickly. So what is it about them that stood out? Was it the clean and well designed interior? Was it their friendly family-style mannerisms when serving customers? Or was it their take on their regional cuisine and the quality of their food? Honestly, it's been a while I've said this about a small family run restaurant: "all of the above!" If anything they served were reheats, they did it perfectly. If they were made same day and kept on hot-hold, they also did it perfectly. Nothing served that evening "sat". Nothing was overdone by the time it arrived at the table. Everything tasted fresh. Everything tasted good. On top of that, they served the best Saag I've tasted in a decade. It was so good that I still think about it a few days later. Just can't wait to be back again. Definitely recommend a visit if you are in the area and craving Indian Cuisine.

A small restaurant with great service. The food was very good and tasty. Felt very much home like. Tried the paniyaram, noodles, biriyani, paneer butter masala. Everything was so good. The coffee was good but not very hot.

I am by no means an Indian food connoisseur, but I was glad to see a variety of more typical dishes like butter chicken, to dosas (gluten free!), idly, and specialty dishes from different regions. They were also able to accommodate a number of dietary restrictions in our group (gluten and dairy free, nut free, vegetarian, vegan), so it was a win all around. For my family, I ordered the sambar vada (gluten free lentil fritters), palak paneer (spinach and paneer cheese), Kerala fish pollichatthu. The fritters were a hit with the little one and came with a tangy sauce (sambar). The palak paneer was a very good version of this classic dish. The Kerala fish entree was my "why not" dish, mostly chosen since I know some folks from Kerala. They weren't around to give me the heads up that it would be a whole small fish cooked in banana leaves, though. I was a little surprised, but it was rather tasty, even if there amount of meat was a bit limited. I'll need to include them in my regular takeout roster in the future, and I'd love to dine in sometime too. The interior looks gorgeous from the pictures.

They're very attentive about refilling water, clearing plates, checking in to see how your meal is doing, etc. If you're there during the buffet, they keep it well stocked even during the busier times. As for the restaurant ambiance, it is on the backside of Newton Center, so it is a bit calmer, despite being right by the entrance to the T. The restaurant is actually below street level, but it's still bright, full of color, and has a lot of Indian artwork throughout. During the warmer months, they have outdoor dining. Service & food remains stellar whether indoor or outdoor. I definitely recommend House of Tandoor. Great food, super welcoming staff, and it doesn't break the bank!

The restaurant was comfy; there was an electric fireplace on the wall which made the room feel homey. We got fried pork momos, which were delicious and juicy. I was interested in trying the C-style, but we had a non-spice eater at the table. I got the pork chili from the appetizer menu and garlic naan for my meal, and my companions got the chow mein and sekuwa. The chow mein looked standard and sekewa was grilled chicken served with puffed rice (looked like rice krispies). Everyone was happy with their meals, but I especially loved mine. There were slices of pork belly in a flavorful sauce with tomatoes, onions, and bell peppers. Note that the pork belly still has the skin on it (which I personally love). My only complaint was at medium, the food seemed mild, but I'll be clearer of my spice preferences next time. I would definitely come back specifically for the pork chili!

First time trying Nepalese food. This story tells us why some cuisines aren't popular (in China)…read more.. Papad: A complimentary crispy snack served before the meal. A combination of the texture of Mexican tortilla chips and the flavor of Indonesian shrimp chips. As someone whose ancestors migrated to Indonesia (half Hakka), I've eaten shrimp chips since childhood, so it felt instantly familiar. The condiments were tamarind sauce and pickled onions. The former was rich, thick, and refreshingly sweet and sour, strangely reminiscent of Cantonese roast goose with plum sauce, a perfect match for the crispy snack; the latter also had a predominantly sweet and sour tomato flavor, but the subsequent strange taste and spiciness of the paprika was too much for a Cantonese person like me. Mango Lassi: Absolutely delicious!!! Lassi is Nepalese yogurt, with a very smooth and delicate texture; the sweetness of the mango was naturally rich and not overpowering, not masking the rich sourness of the yogurt itself. Writing this review, I finally understood why I loved it--it's basically a yogurt version of Hongkongese mango pomelo sago... Mo:mo (Steamed) - Pork: Nepalese version of xiaolongbao小籠包 (soup dumplings). The filling had a moderate concentration of spices, allowing you to taste the meat's natural flavor; however, the skin near the bottom had cracks, so there were no soup. The dipping sauce, Achar, was interesting, with the sweet and sour taste of tomatoes, the spiciness of garlic and ginger, and a hint of nuts, making it overall refreshing. However, what might be hard for Chinese people to understand is that steamed buns are supposed to be eaten fresh out of the pot, so why was the dipping sauce cold? Reheating it at home with the sauce made it much more palatable. Nepali Thaali - Goat: The standard vegetarian option included lentil soup (Dal), curried potato and cauliflower (Tarkari), stir-fried vegetables (Saag), pickled radish cubes (Achaar), long-grain rice (Bhat), ghee, and a slice each of white radish, carrot, and cucumber, plus an extra serving of goat curry. In short, it was a bunch of spice paste with rice. I won't judge whether it was good or bad; I just really didn't like it. The spices were extremely complex and intense; towards the end, I even felt dizzy and questioned my existence, completely disoriented by what I was eating--it felt so strange, like something that shouldn't exist on Earth... The Dal seemed to use more mung beans than lentils, with a slightly burnt and bitter aftertaste; both vegetables in the Tarkari were overcooked, but the curry itself was rather weak and bland; the Saag seemed to use mustard greens, similar to stir-fried greens in Chinese cuisine but on the oilier side, with dried chilies that only added aroma, not spiciness. The curried goat meat, however, was quite good, savory and rich, the meat's flavor finally making it taste less like herbs. Muttering to myself: Each has its own beauty, let's all appreciate beauty together...

We also got some pakoras, which were just as wonderful in taste and texture. The lentil soup was well seasoned and well spiced and very hearty. The dosa was a winner in its lovely flavor, but sadly lacked in not having enough filling. I also really enjoyed the yogi bowl in having very fresh and tasty veggies with wonderful sauces and a marinated tofu. The presentation was elegant. The restaurant itself had a great vibe and very little felt different from Walnut Grille. There are a variety of tables and booths to choose from.
