We went there last night for Valentines Day and it was full house. Our server did an excellent job but they keep filling up our water glasses...do you think they are trying to make you full? But I had the chicken anchoy olio and was so ono but is wasn't like the same when I went the last time (new chef?) Planned to leave with my doggies bag cuz I was full to the gills but I forget it and plan to have it for my lunch today! My bill came out to 57.00 excluding the 20% tip which she deserved with great service. If not maybe 10%. I wouldn't say I'm a regular here, I've probably dined in about a half dozen times in the last, roughly, 5yrs. But I have never had a bad experience. I've had a large family dinner at the Ala Moana location once & hated it. It was ridiculously crowded & noisy & the food sucked. It was several years ago but I vaguely remember having to wait for our table even though we had a reservation & then feeling rushed to leave. I never returned. This Kahala location does get busy also but the ambience somehow manages to remain calm & fairly quiet. At least, that's how I feel every time I come. The food is good but not AMAZING which is the reason for the docked star. For the price you pay here, it should knock your socks off. It doesn't. They're very comparable to Verbano. But I love Verbano too so meh! Parking SUCKS so try to come just a little before the dinner rush, 5pm worked really well for us last night (Father's Day). Our car, along with pretty much everyone else's, was blocked in when we exited the restaurant but the valet attendant was extremely & genuinely friendly & worked quickly to move cars out of the way. We didn't even valet & I felt like we should've tipped him just for being so nice & being on top of everything. read more

Check the ingredients next time you eat there, I never paid any attention to this but last week I asked my friend why they didn't like their meal? And that's when the chief's choice of ingredients comment came out. It would seem to me that if the other Italian restaurants use the real ingredients then why couldn't Assaggios? Now I understand other people's comments on the food i.e. nice try but that wasn't a real italian dish to begin with. I LOVE this Assaggios location! I hosted a baby shower luncheon here this past weekend and although I didn't get the private room (someone had already booked it) - everyone had a great time! The staff was fantastic - they catered to every request we had, we created our own menu, brought in our own dessert (for a fee), allowed us to bring decorations, gave us a present table and helped move the shower along at the appropriate timing. The main dishes that were ordered were the Chicken Piccata, Lasagna, Eggplant Parmigiana, and an assortment of sandwiches. Everyone liked the food - especially the Chicken Piccata. I will definitely look into Kahala Assaggios the next time I have to plan another party. Especially since they allowed us to create our own menu. It really helped us to keep the cost of the shower within our budget! NO regrets choosing this location!! read more

I went to dinner here as a party of three, around 7pm. We called ahead -- at 6.30 -- to ask if we could be seated soon. Whoever picked up the phone just when "ummmmmmmmmmmmmmm yeah sure" and so we drove there. The parking situation was horrible. The lot is tiny, and you can only go in one direction. There's a sign up for free valet parking, but nobody was there. Cars were just stalled in the lot, waiting for spaces to open up. We parked at the corner of the Kahala Mall lot instead and walked over. The decor of this restaurant is modern tending towards well-lit night club. The walls alternate between swaths white bubbles and jutting brick, and the booths on the side are very high. The tables are set simply, with white tablecloths, a single red rose, and place settings. The decor didn't seem to match the restaurant, but I wasn't going to complain. We were seated right next to the kitchen, but the noise levels weren't bad. I ordered the chicken piccata, and others at my table ordered the sausage putanesca. I only tried my dish, and I was not blown away. The chicken was cooked fine, but the sauce was completely bland. Piccata is a white wine, butter, and lemon sauce. The only flavor I could get on either the chicken or the pasta was by murdering the lemon provided. I eventually asked for a side of red sauce, which made the pasta much more palatable. I'm giving this place 2 stars because of the poor phone manners, the horrible parking, and the bland food. On the plus side, our server Tanya was very nice and got my much-needed sauce to me quickly. I wouldn't rush back, but it's fine for an ok meal in the neighborhood. read more

Love this Kahala Assaggio! Assagio's in Ala Moana was my all time favorite for special occasions, until we found hair in not just one of our dishes, but 3! Yikes, is right! Needless to say, we were so grossed out. We haven't been to an Assagio's for a couple of years, but we went to a party at the Kahala location last night and the food was sooo delicious! The location is diagonally across the end of Kahala Mall, next to Lanikai Juice. They have a small parking lot and offer valet service. The valet attendant was very polite and there's no fee, he just works for tips. Service was excellent. They kept our water glass full, and kept on bringing us more of their super soft and warm yummy bread. I had the linguine with steak sauce, mushrooms and butter. It was messy because of all the butter, but oh so good! They offer small or big portions, and I chose the big portion so that I could have the leftover for lunch. Someone else had ordered the pepper steak well done with linguine butter noodles and it was cooked to perfection and so tasty! Restaurant was clean and spacious. We'll be back for sure. read more

I have eaten (and taken out) at Assagios for many years, and this is the first review I'm writing about them. We ordered take out tonight as we are still in lockdown due to COVID-19. I got to say, the service has been EXCELLENT! The host was very friendly. He even said "say hi to the family for me." As I was leaving. I was like "Whar?!?!" I ordered take out maybe three times the last 5 months from this location and he remembered our last conversation from a few months ago! Impressive!! They really take care of the customers (and remember them which I found most impressive!)! Also, as always, everyone enjoyed their meal. We ordered 3 shrimp scampi's with linguini, one cheese ravioli, veal saltimboca, and New York Steak. Excellent food! read more

We've done take out here maybe 3 times and ate in the restaurant once. Each time I hope that it gets better and it doesn't. The Kailua assagios is on a different level compared to this one. Everything is just a bit sad here. Recently, I ordered a takeout including a Caesar salad and it was a very small order for about $9. I usually get a Caesar salad from Assagio (it's something I look forward to) except this one was pretty disappointing and just gross. The lettuce was not fresh and soggy (so it has been pre-made and you could tell that it sat there for a while). The extra parmesan was overkill and gave it a weird taste. As for our main course I was super disappointed in the eggplant parm. It just didn't taste right (it was very bland) and there was only cheese on one of the eggplants. My boyfriend also got a chicken dish and said it was just okay (he's had it many times before at the Kailua location). Everything just didn't taste good and ended up in the trash and I absolutely HATE wasting food! We spent over $70 just on the two of us and couldn't manage to eat another bite. I love the Kailua Assagios but the one on Waialae is not worth the money you are spending. I hope their chefs and management make a change! read more

Menu is pretty much the same for all the Assaggios so I'm not going to get into detail. I do however want to highlight the service that I received from the sweetest girl at this Kahala location. I really wish that I could remember her name, but that's what I get for not writing this review sooner. She always had a smile on her face (even when she was making the table side Caesar salad). She added extra Tabasco just the way I like it, and also brought me the bottle (without me asking) in case she didn't add enough. I assured her it was perfect. We came here for a late lunch, but she never made us feel rushed and she was just awesome. Some guy with a ponytail sat us and asked us what we wanted to drink before my butt even touched the chair. Naturally, I asked him, "Can I open my menu and look first?" I thought he was going to be our server, but luckily he wasn't. Now that I work in this area, I'm sure I'll be back. read more

I love the Assagio on Kahala side. To be honest, I love pasta, but I come back to this location time and time again because they make the best table side Caesar salad! You have to order at least two salads to have them make it at your table, but it's so worth it. Paired with their piping hot fresh bread and butter, and a nice glass of white wine.. This place is a winner! Now if only I could learn to make this myself.. Also, if you're like me and get the Caesar salad and bread for take out, ask for extra dressing and cheese. I have read many reviews here and it seems like we're eating at different restaurants. I find this to be a favorite place to dine and try to visit here at least once a month. This is the kind of place where you want to take a good size group. The atmosphere is beautiful and staff friendly and courteous. The lot is a bit small but they have complimentary valet parking. The bread is deliciously hot/fresh and the portions generous. I haven't had any desserts here yet because by the time dinner is done I can barely roll out of there. Be sure to always get the full sized portion so you can take the left overs for a fantastic lunch the next day. I would recommend the pollo linguine vegetable with pesto sauce. If you want mediocre italian this is the place. The pasta is not fresh cut which is always a treat. The service is always great! I like their complimentary bread and I crave their ceasar salad. This location is much better than the Ala Moana location. The wait staff is not sassy or snobby. They are the most sincere people and they are awesome at their job. I love Assagio's food and I chose this place to celebrate my father's birthday. Our waitress was Tiarra, she was most accommodating and helped us choosing our appetizers and entrees. Even the other wait staff helped in case she wasn't around, someone was there refilling our water, or taking our dishes away. No one ignored us, or went as far to tell us "We are not your server." Tiarra and another waiter helped us sing happy birthday and my dad got a little lemon sorbet cup. It was ono! We also had the Rainbow Cake, Tartufo Ice cream, Cheesecake and Creme Brulee. Came here with family visiting from Cali last Thursday. They wanted someplace nice minus Waikiki prices. After calling around to different places we went with Assaggio's since they were able to accommodate our party of 22 in the private room. I won't list what everyone ordered but they said they enjoyed their food. I got the NY steak and scallops with pasta. It was ok. I ordered the steak medium rare but it was pink and the scallops were overcooked. I did have the Sangiovese wine which was good; the riesling as well. Would I go back? For a special occasion, yes. The interior is nice and the service here was awesome. Our server Tiarra gets a full star! read more

Okay so first of all, parking sucks, you either gotta be lucky, or just valet, but then again kahala mall is right there, so just parking there and walking is not bad. When I think about it thats pretty close, thats why Americans are called lazy asses. So I came here twice. I must say this place looks pretty nice and I was so glad I never came with just a t-shirt and slippers. On a side note I saw some eye candy, so that must mean that a lot girls like this place, so if you have date, over here is a nice place to take a girl, but not nice enough to take on an anniversary, IDK, IDC. Anyway now the food lol: I first ordered the shrimp and chicken picante. The shrimp are huge, like not those damn penny shrimps that some people serve that is actually supposed to be fed as fish food, these were manly shrimp. I refer to them as warrior shrimp because one of these shrimps equal the strenght of a 100 of the others. The chicken was nice and tender, not tough. The pasta was alittle spicy, but tasted good, for some reason it tasted like chips on pasta, I can't explain it, but I thought it was good. The bread here is nice and soft and the butter enhances the bread. The second time I came here I ordered the scallop with shrimp dish. Now the scallops are huge, like you can place baseball with them. The scallop and shrimp were cooked good. One scallop was alittle overcooked, but still good. Prices here are a little on the pricier side, but you get more for your buck. I mean the first time I had leftovers and a big guy like me never has leftovers, I usually eat other peoples leftovers. The second time I hit the scallop wall, and had to struggle to finish my last scallop. Overall it is a great italian restaurant. One recommendation would be to have the waiters be more personable, at least smile braddah! read more

Assaggio's is a good place if you are looking for Italian-ish food in the Kahala area. It's super convenient for us, just across the street, so this is where we usually head for some pasta and vino. The food is good... not great, but definitely good. If you don't have Rome or New York expectations for authenticity in Italian cuisine, Assaggio's will do the job and curb your craving. And hearty portions too. They offer a small or large portion of all the dinner entrees. I always get the small portion, and I always have leftovers (after first stuffing face with their bread, of course). I like to consider myself impulsive and adventurous, but as it turns out, at Assaggio's I'm sadly a creature of habit. Their "fish alla pomodori" (sans bacon, with veggies, extra parm spooned on top) always pleases, and I can never seem to order anything different, no matter how hard I try. And now for the best part. Okay, not the best part, but definitely the most exciting... they give Andes Candies with the bill! Not nearly enough restaurants do this anymore. Seriously, who doesn't like Andes Candies? Our new favorite game is coming up with new reasons why our server might want to give us more than one Andes Candy each. Sometimes we pretend they did not initially provide them with the check. Other times, before the bill arrives, we tell our patient server that we would like to order a dish of Andes Candies for dessert, and then look pointedly at them. The meal was like something out of the twilight zone! The food as the same as all their other location, but the service was really bad. Staff seemed to be bothered that you even came in and and seating you was taking time to gossip with the off duty staff who were sitting on the counter while others used the phone. Once we were seated there were not to bee seen again. Only one waitress seemed to have any sort of personality, or acted like she liked to word there. From time to time a zombi like woman with no facial expression or joint movement when she walk. She would robot walk into the dinning room and put the check on the tables and leave without saying a word. To sum it up, it was a very cold and sterile atmosphere with absentee staff and zombie money collectors . Besides us the only other patrons were retires from kahala nui, dress to the max with nothing to say (everyone just sat in silent). We had dinner this week. Truly not Italian food, prepared for quantity plates and not quality food. Two of us were looking forward to a great meal. Nothing but disappointment. Overloaded with an enormous amount of garlic, wilted old lettuce in the ceaser salad. Garlic bread was soaked in butter and huge amount of garlic. soggy.. On top of our disappointment, my friend was up all night on the toilet and I was up with garlic indigestion. When does a Italian restaurant offer chopsticks with Italian food?? We arrived with reservations for a large birthday party. They have the table waiting for us. Now I've ate at the Ala Moana location and all I remembered was over buttered dishes and being ignored by staff. So lets say that I was skeptic to start. The staff was very friendly and helpful. But the pasta was bland. It was the complete opposite of their Ala Moana's sibling. Its as the cook forgot to salt the pasta. But it wasnt just my dish. Everyones on our table was lacking salt and taste as well. Even tho the service was excellent, food is why we come here. That said, I wont be returning. read more

Hands down, awesome food! Their filet mignon was THE BOMB.COM!!!!!! I wanna say that it's the best filet mignon I've had in a looooonggg time! But besides their food, their service was even better. Our waiter was Dustin. Awesome dude! He was really concerned about how we were doing and if we liked everything. My mom wasn't a fan of their iced tea (guess they got a new bartender and we're trying some new iced teas.) So he gladly took it off our bill and gave us a complimentary dessert. He was super funny and was cracking jokes with all of us. Haven't had good service and good food like that in a while. If I could give them 10 stars I would. Assaggio's is an expensive place. It is rich in quality and commands high prices for any meal that you want. I did have the Chef's special plate that involved some type of noodle laced with garlic bits, jumbo shrimp, and pieces of lightly fried chicken pieces. It was quite and severely good and the place does give free bread baskets even though dinner is served a time. I would advise coming here only on special occasions or if one wants to spend a lot of money for Italian. The furnishings are quite astounding and the service is swift. The one problem that I can think of is the parking and the timing. Assaggio's is located in a small strip mall and the parking attendants can only find so much open space. Then the attendants double park. I would advise anyone to come earlier on a weekday and avoid the busy times because of the previously mentioned parking problem. read more

Server very prompt & friendly. Food came quickly as were there at 5 pm. But Chicken Piccata very overcooked. Edges of chicken breast too tough to eat. Same w/ opah; very dry. Busboy very well- intentioned but took away bread before everyone was done w/ entrees & asked twice if we were done when we were still enjoying. Some training on positioning of utensils on plate to show customer is done would be helpful. A plus is location; very easy for my elderly parents to access restaurant, vs other places where you have to cross a large pkg lot & go up an escalator, etc to get there. read more

I don't post very much so take this wth a grain of salt. Haven't been here in awhile so didn't recognize any of the current staff. In the past we have always received excellent service until this visit. For some reason they had a mixup in the kitchen without notifying us so we ended up waiting for my wife's dish over 10 mins while ours had been served already. On top of that my dish came with only 3 very over cooked rubber scallops when I ordered them rare. Usually they came with 5 perfectly cooked scallops. Our pasta was dry an gritty not al dente mind you. Over all I will never bring my family back here again unless I hear things have changed back for the better. read more

Assagio is hit or miss. Today takeout was a miss. When I arrived in the crowded parking lot I witnessed the valet guy curse out a customer, who then decided to leave. The valet's response "f*** you Sir. Dont come back!" so he had an attitude. The hostess went to get my takeout and I asked her from parm, she looked in the bag and said oh yeah it's in there. Thanks for the half ounce of cheese for my three items! Saltiambuca was good as usual. We also ordered the spaghetti carbonara. The bacon was basically raw, it was on linguini, there was no cream sauce just oil or butter. And burnt onions. The staff just really isnt friendly, which annoys me. And overall the food is fake Italian. More like Japanese Italian. I'll go back because we are lacking in any Italian in Honolulu. It just a once in a while place. read more

Assaggio's (Kahala). I have never been to any of the other locations but my experiences here have always been very good. The servers are always very very friendly and attentive. Our server tonight (darn it, I forgot his name), was awesome. He was very personable, has a great sense of humor, and was VERY patient with our group. We were so indecisive and had like a million questions for him, but again, he was so helpful and patient with us even though we were probably taking up a lot of valuable time for him to tend to his other groups of patrons (Sorry :( :( ) Food is always great as well. I had the Chicken Saltimbocca, my fave. The portions here are HUGE. Even the regular, smaller portions are pretty darn filling. Parking here can get a little tricky if you don't come early, however, there is a valet worker at Assaggio's that will help take care of the parking situation, and there is no charge for the valet, just the optional tip if you want to. I have been here multiple times for multiple occasions and have always had wonderful service, though this visit was truly disappointing. We were seated promptly and that is went the chaos began. Our server, Duck (That is the name that was on the check since he didn't bother to introduce himself) came over and the first thing he asked us was, "drinks?" Not even a proper hello my name is or anything...I thought okay...this is weird...whatever, we ordered our drinks, and as he was dropping them, he just walked away. We had to shout at him to come back to let him know we wanted to place appetizer orders! He took our appetizer orders & took all of our menus (didn't even place our entree orders) and just left..we finished our appetizers and were just sitting there with no menus to look at/discuss what we wanted to eat for entrees. He comes back and says, "ready to order entrees?" I replied, "sorry I didn't get a chance to look at the full menu since you took them" he comes back and hands me one menu for the 6 of us to look at, and just stands there waiting for us to place our order...it was very awkward and we felt very rushed. We ordered and had to ask our busser (who was very nice/hospitable) for our soda refills, coffee refills, chopsticks, etc. Duck, our server, was nowhere to be found. We finished our entrees & he would not come to box our food. I finally started stacking all the dishes and only then he noticed and came by to ask us if we needed boxes. Once that catastrophe was over, he hands me all 6 dessert menus to distribute to MY party...as if he wanted ME to be the server now!!! Whenever we had to ask for coffee he gave us a sigh as if it was some big chore for him to refill our cups.....our desserts came and so did our check before we even bit into our desserts. It took another 20 mins to box our desserts that we didn't finish and it seemed all he was concerned about grabbing the check. Very disappointed that the service of this place has gone downhill. Used to come here often but not after this! 2 stars for the food tasting great, -3 stars for the horrible service. read more

Coworkers treated me to a birthday lunch here. What a cool little oasis! I've been to the Ala Moana location, but wasn't super impressed by the food there (okay, but for the ambiance I was anticipating greater heights of tastiness). I really enjoyed my pasta with calamari and assorted vegetables (zucchini, carrots, peppers) at the Kahala site, and although I rarely order clam sauce (I am super partial to my mom's, which I'm almost positive cannot be topped), my friend's definitely looked excellent. We also got a free coffee cheesecake for my birthday! (Riiich but goood.) Nothing makes my day more complete than dessert, so it didn't take much persuasion for me to try a taste of lychee sorbet as well (refreshing!). All in all, a welcome outing of serenity in the middle of the work day. read more

I have visited this Assaggio Bistro twice now and I wish I had learned my lesson the first time. I was hoping that the first time I visited was just an off-night and I would have a different experience if I gave it a second chance. That was a mistake. To the point, both times I came here, the hostesses seemed reluctant to serve me and my party and were fairly cold to certain customers. It was obvious that the hostesses pick and choose who they want to actually be friendly towards. In the end, the service I did receive was incredibly slow despite both nights having an almost empty restaurant. The servers were very helpful and friendly, but it took almost an hour to receive our food (which came out wrong the first time); and again, that was surprising because the restaurant was almost empty. Overall, from what I have seen, if you're a customer who they favor or that looks a certain way, then you will probably have a better experience. If not, head to the Ala Moana location. I have never had a bad experience there and I am a frequent customer. read more
