If you want experienced movers Our Guys is for you. I just moved to Leisure World hopefully for the last move of my life. I was under time restrictions and needed to be done by 5pm or face a fine. They worked with us to make sure that this didn't happen. They had hustle and drive to get the job done on time. Very professional and concerned with my outcome. The only reason I'm not giving them 5 stars is the language barrier. Out of the 6 movers we worked with only one had English as their first language. Three spoke both but I did have to insist that the English speaking mover stayed with the truck. But I would use them again in a heartbeat. read more

Great experience overall. From the initial appointment for an estimate to the crew getting the last piece of furniture in place and assembled. The crew was thorough, respectful and professional. They worked until th job was done and didn't just sit around as the clock ticked away my money. Everything was packed and wrapped to protect it well, and nothing was damaged. These guys kicked ass! It was 5 degrees the day we moved and the movers showed up an hour earlier than planned and had 1 extra guy. They packed up our 2 BR apart in 1.5 hours and unpacked it all into our townhouse in 1.5 hours. They hauled those boxes on their backs and moved our very heavy furniture like they were feathers. She said she needed to get my information over to another department to be able to give me a quote. When I mention that the date that I needed to move was in less than 48 hours, she immediately told me that she had no availability and if they are too busy because it's the end of the month. Was a last minute decision to use movers and tried to contact a more local mover to help who had less then favorable communications skills then came across these "guys". I described our moving situation and he gave me an estimate of the cost which turned out to be spot on once the move was complete. No hidden charges. No surprises. No "under" estimates. On the day of the move, the three "Guys" arrived right on time. They were hard-working and courteous. They protected floors, wrapped everything, and efficiently moved all of our items. Once at our new home, they moved just as efficiently in reverse. Everything arrived safe and sound. This was my first time using professional movers, and I am extremely glad I did! After seeing the reviews online and calling around I decided to go with Our Guys for my move. Speaking with Eric initially was great. He was extremely helpful and even called me back to let me know that a cheaper team had come available for our move after initially setting up a different higher amount estimate. The day of the move brought several issues with tardiness and poor communication and accounts for the lack of 1 star in the review. HOWEVER, Eric called me personally after I lodged my complaints and worked with me to fix the problems I had and apologize on behalf of the company. I know no one is perfect but a company that is willing to go to the lengths to fix problems instead of ignoring them deserves a good review in my book. read more

Excellent movers! Great prices, very professional. Laid down tarps so as not to damage my moms floors, packaged all our furniture with blankets and plastic wrap (which they did not charge extra for!). The men were efficient and quick - we even bought them lunch and invited them to sit and eat, but they asked if they could just keep working and eat later. Umm, yes?! After that day we actually re-hired them two days later to help us pack up and load a Penske truck. When unpacking that evening my daughters Christmas money was missing out of her Jewlry box. $360 gone!!! After repeated calls The owner said call the police. He could do nothing. I called to set up an appointment about 2 weeks before my move. Everything was finalized within the hour. The day of the move they showed up early! They were fast and friendly. I was moving from a 4th floor walkup so I certainly didn't make it easy for them. Moving across town, the whole thing was finished in about 4 hours. They wrapped everything in shrink wrap. We hired Our Guys for our move (which was a week ago today) and we were absolutely 100% pleased with them. We originally called them just to move our piano and some exercise equipment, but we asked for an additional quote for a whole house move. Management was very responsive and helpful in my move, which was a single pool table. They disassembled it and reassembled it, and took care to not scratch or scuff the felt. As a military member, I have moved multiple times with multiple moving companies and I am fairly critical of moving companies having had both good and bad experiences. We hired Our Guys for a local move and could not be more pleased. They were prompt, professional, honest and did exactly what they said they would do at exactly the price they quoted. We had a large 4 BR home with lots of heavy furniture and a piano. Everything was well protected and well taken care of and placed exactly where we wanted at the new home. The worst. The truck broke down 1/4 of the way through the move, took 12 hours instead of 6. The crew was so exhausted, they damaged a fair amount of our property. Setting up the move in advance was very easy. I had multiple stops to be made prior to arriving at the destination and this was not an issue. DO NOT call anyone else, before you call "Our Guys!" Moving is already stressful, but from start to finish our process was on time, affordable and STRESS FREE! Eric has the most wonderful customer service and the crew didn't once stop smiling. Our move had the crew traveling out of state to do 2 pick ups. Both needed to be packed and loaded. Upon their final destination in Leesburg, they unpacked everything with great care and efficiency! I was so happy, I could have cried. I got all the credit from family, while Our Guys did all the work. There are always accidents or problems that slow a process down, but our move was on time at every location, never had travel issues of getting lost and not broken items upon arrival. I hope never to move again, but when I do, they will be the only company I call. read more

UPDADED One time was bad, one time was good. One time they broke a bunch of stuff because the movers were more concerned w/ doing it quickly than w/ being even remotely careful. The other time was much better. They were careful, if bit slow (not entirely their fault since people kept stealing the reserved elevator). This time they accidentally took my furniture plastic wrap and then when I asked for it back they had used almost all of it (and it was a huge and almost full roll). When I mentioned that, I thought that they had ignored my email. However, they did in-fact order a new roll, they just forgot to tell me about it. The owner came over to explain and to give me the replacement role, today. I can't give them full marks due to the previous experience, but I am willing to work w/ them again in the future. read more

Very BAD and disappointing service! Unprofessional! I would not recommend this at all. I hired 'Around Town Movers' to move my stuff from DC to Bethesda. The company sent me two men. They were supposed to let me know (at least 30 minutes before their arrival) that they were on the way. But they called me once they reached my place. One of the guys was not interested in the job at all and he worked as slow as possible. In the middle of loading, he would take out his phone and browse the web, play music. They wanted to make sure the loading/unloading take 1-2 hours longer than it was supposed to take. As they get paid on hourly basis, they worked at a very sow pace. As a result, a job that should have taken max 2-3 hours ended up taking 4 hours. To make it worse, they charged me for the time starting their arrival at my apartment (even though they did not call me 30 minutes in advance). When I called the company and complained, the staff were on a defensive mode and did not want to concede any mistakes. No apologies. Terrible service indeed. Amateurish. read more

I regret engaging Our Guys Around Town Movers to handle our move from Arlington to Falls Church. Of my 10 moves over the past 22 years, including several international moves, this was the worst and had the highest out-of-pocket cost, due to the following unexpected charges and damage: 1. The charge exceeded their quote by hundreds of dollars: I received an estimate over the phone of between $837 and $1185.75, based on three crew members and one truck at an hourly rate of $139.50. A few hours into the move, the owner, David Underwood, announced, without explanation, that he needed to add an additional worker and truck for an extra charge of $60 per hour. The total charge was $1615.50 -- $778.50 (93%) over the low-end estimate and $429.75 (36%) over the high-end estimate. 2. I was misled concerning their expertise in piano moving and paid for their staff to be trained: Their promotional material lists "piano moving" as one of their services and their Yelp web page says they are "piano moving experts." Yet, after the moving crew had spent a few hours moving other items, they admitted they didn't know how to move my small grand piano and had to call Mr. Underwood, who came and spent time (at my expense) instructing the crew how to disassemble and pack the piano. 3. They seriously damaged a precious family heirloom without adequately compensating me: A 130-year-old portrait of my great-great-grandmother was ripped during the move, because the crew did not pack it properly. Following Mr. Underwood's instructions, I filed a claim for the $1200 repair. He wrote me back and asked, "In the interest for providing good customer service, considering the circumstances and the liability coverage included with the move, what do you think would be a reasonable outcome?" I took this as a good faith offer to settle and suggested we split the difference at $600 each. He responded: "[I]t is clear that we have no contractual liability for the picture claim. However, in the interest of good relations, we are willing to make an exception and provide consideration in the amount of $50." 4. Their insurance did not cover the damage: One of the reasons I chose Our Guys is because their promotional material states that they are "insured." However, the coverage provided free of charge is only $0.60 per pound; the maximum amount of insurance available, at the customer's cost, is only $3.50 per pound and there are limitations on what is covered, including pianos and "improperly packed or unpacked" pictures, paintings, lamps, etc. Even if the painting had not been excluded from coverage, their insurance would not have come close to compensating me for the damage they caused. All told, including the cost to repair the painting, the move cost me $2765.50 -- more than 2-3 times what it should have. I tried to resolve this dispute through the Better Business Bureau, as Our Guys is a member. In his letter denying my request, Mr. Underwood blamed me for all of the problems. He claimed that I "under described the full scope of the move" and "omitted important details about the move when questioned." These statements are, of course, not true; in fact, I went out of my way to be sure they understood the amount of furniture they would be dealing with, since I wanted to get an accurate quote. He also stated that there were "several more rooms that were not listed on the order," without identifying what rooms he was referring to. Concerning the painting, Mr. Underwood claimed that an existing hole likely contributed to the damage and that he had advised me that there would be no coverage and pointed out to me that it was "not properly packaged." None of these assertions are true. For example, the hole in the painting is nowhere near and is clearly unrelated to the tears which occurred during the move. He stated that the service contract that was provided me in advance of the move with a confirmation email clearly excludes items such as the painting. In fact, the exclusion for "improperly packed or unpacked pictures, paintings..." is contained in the "Local Moving Invoice Uniform Bill of Lading," which I saw for the first time during the move, not in the service contract they provided beforehand. Most offensive was the following comment: "Clearly, it couldn't have meant that much to him if he hadn't bothered to pack or otherwise provide protection for it." Protecting the painting is exactly what I entrusted Our Guys Around Town Movers with and what they failed to do. Unfortunately, things can easily go wrong in a move, and in the event that they do, based on my experience, one should expect little, if any, compensation from Our Guys Around Town Movers. In my case, they didn't even honor their estimate. For anyone considering engaging them, I would strongly suggest obtaining a firm quote and having independent insurance coverage. read more

I recently moved from Northern VA to Ithaca, NY and after meeting with a few movers decided to go with Our Guys movers. They did an excellent job with every step of the process. The owner of the company came out and provided me a quote. He was very professional and did a good job of explaining the moving process. A few other folks from Our Guys were in touch with me along the way and they too were very professional. The movers showed up the day before my move to do a pre-pack and they were super nice and professional. They were very respectful of my home and laid down rubber floor protectors. The next day they came and packed everything up and again everything went smooth and as planned. They showed up to my new house a few days later within 5 minutes of the quoted time, which is very impressive considering it's a 7 hour drive. Everything was delivered intact, with the exception of a single wine glass that broke. I had a lot of fragile stuff and some nice furniture and it was all delivered in the same condition as when it was picked up. My Experience: Day 1: They say first impressions are the best impression. I should have thrown Marco, over Marco, not management Marco out of my house on the first day. Marco started the day by saying very rudely that I owed money and in order to get the move started and he needed a check now. I told him that prior to his coming I had paid a deposit. He told me no deposit had been made and he needed a check. At this point I called Eric to speak with Marco. After that any questions regarding the move were made through the other senior guy at my house, not Marco. After that for the most part the move went smoothly until Marco told me that he would only be working for 4 hours the next day. Before leaving I asked Marco for 10 wardrobe boxes he only provided 8. Unfortunately we were not able to pack all our clothing prior to his arrival. After the crew had left I realized I had a lot of stuff, 30 years, and needed help with packing the next day. Accordingly I called the office to let Eric know I needed help with packing and Marco was only going to work 4 hours the next day. Day 2: Marco arrived and the first thing he said was that he never stated he would only be working 4 hours the next day. Again he stated he needed to be paid. I listened and said nothing. Once again I had to call the office for help with Marco. As discussed one of the items that needed to be moved was our refrigerator. I had planned to make that one of the last thing moved because I needed to take the food out of it and clean it. As I was doing that Marco kept trying to get me to stop cleaning saying just put a box of baking soda in it, it does not need to be thoroughly cleaned. Fortunately I knew if it were not completely cleaned it could be ruined. As the day went on Marco did not direct the crew to pack anything and told them to hang out in the truck if there was nothing already in boxes. My partner and I frantically tried to pack everything in the house. While I was in my room with one of the movers and Marco, Marco started speaking in Spanish. While I do not speak Spanish fluently I know the word Negro, which means black. Marco kept looking at me and saying to one of the movers' negro nigger. I believe he knew I understood some Spanish so he kept saying nigger in a drawn out way so it was not easily understandable. Later during the day we ran out of boxes. I asked Marco if he had any more, he said no. At this point which was surprisingly close to four hours at my residence he said we are going to your new address. As the truck is being unloaded I noticed a stain on our mattress. This stain was not there before the move. Of course when I asked Marco about it he said it was there prior to the move. Now it is time to sign off on the invoice for the day. One of the items on the invoice is an affirmation stating all my belongings are off the truck. I said I believed him, but he insisted I come to the truck. I went to the truck it was empty with the exception of empty boxes. Fortunately for the movers their day was over and mine continued. Two friends and I had to move the rest of the items out of the house in garbage bags making two trips and taking until midnight to finish. I thought I had paid for a service to make my life easier. It was not, it was a nightmare! The only good thing I can say about Our Guys Movers was the professionalism of Eric and the younger movers. Marco was not. Never in my life have I said someone needs to be fired, but I am now. Marco should not represent Our Guys Movers in any capacity. He is not pleasant he lies and is a racist. Unfortunately, Since Our Guy's stored my belongings I need them one last time. My items were delivered missing the hardware needed for re-assembly. Additionally, I found two boxes that were not mine when I called to report it. I was told to throw them away. By the way Marco still works for Our Guys. read more

I've moved WAY TOO MANY TIMES and I've never really had a great experience UNTIL NOW! I called 4 movers, knowing exactly what I needed b/c I've done this so many times and not one person answered the phone, internet requests were not answered. I called OUR GUYS AROUND TOWN and got the most helpful guy (Eric) who assured me about the insurance and bonding of their company. He talked me through all the details and booked me immediately! I was so impressed I stopped all the other bids. I paid my (fair) deposit and then was worried that a Sunday move might not happen.... I've had a mover no-show before but NOT THIS COMPANY! 8am move was an 8am sunday move. The guys called me to tell me they were coming. A large, clean truck arrived with 3 very nice men who worked, way harder than any other mover had ever worked. I never had to question the time they were taking b/c I never saw them take a break. At noon I asked them to take a break so I could feed them and they asked to not stop until we got to the new house. WOW! After a short lunch break where they stayed right where I could see them, they were back at work, never complaining, never griping about the 4 flights of stairs in the town house, they just put stuff on their back and moved. At the end there was not one broken piece and I was overjoyed. I will also say, there was one piece of this that another review covered which is that there still were things left behind b/c the truck was full but I think that was an issue done in the booking process and as the client, I should have provided an inventory list so that things could be more accountable OR a moving estimate at the house should be done for a more exact estimate. I don't want to taint a 5-star review with this but it's important to also be a company that can work out the kinks when there are issues. When I called to say that I needed to rent an extra truck to finish the move, I was also helped to my complete satisfaction. It's important to be able to have a company that will work with all that happened and THIS IS A MOVING COMPANY THAT STANDS BY ITS WORK AND WAS EVERYTHING AND MORE than I expected. Absolutely first class service. I contacted Our Guys to pick up a bedroom set from a warehouse in Woodbridge, VA and deliver and install it in a home in Chantilly. The dispatcher was clear and explained exactly how the billing and service worked. On the day, the truck and crew arrived at the pick-up early. They were very safety conscious maneuvering the truck; when they opened the cargo area, blankets were neatly folded and staked, straps were stowed and hand trucks and dolleys secured. Minor details but huge confidence builders. The crew loaded the furniture, and hauled it to the home where they unloaded and unpacked the items, neatly stacking packing materials for removal. They carried the items up a single flight of steps, installed and assembled as needed. They completed the job and left almost exactly at the contracted 2 hour target. Living in this area you get used to outfits over-promising and under-performing. These guys did EXACTLY what they promised for a fair price. read more
