Very good aubergine starter on the left and boring cheese starter on the right
    Jennifer S.

Mixed bag here. Some mediocre food and some really good food but nothing my husband and I would go out of our way for again. The staff though is nice and even when we left, a man rolling the dough for the flatbread gave us a sincere thank you for coming. The decor is also very cool, with walls painted a warm mustard brown colour and tchotchkes everywhere. The menu in the restaurant is slightly different from the online menu, which is a bit annoying as a vegetarian bc I was really eager to go here based on what I saw online. We ordered the panir-o-sabzi to start and whilst a big plate, the description didn't match the meal. I expected feta cheese blended with tarragon, mint and walnut, almost as a spread, with walnuts. Rather it's a big salad with radish slices and 2 halves of a pretty tasteless cheese, and walnuts. Piping hot bread is served with it. Next I ordered the mirza gasemi which was the best-tasting dish of the night: a soupy mix of aubergine, whet and tomatoes, it was perfect with the bread. My main, the ashak, was a big dish but a big downer: very bland despite the heaps of sauces. My husband got the grilled chicken with a specialty rice of orange peel, almond slivers pistachio and grated carrot and salad: again a huge plate. The orange peel was the most distinctive, delicious taste, basically caramelized. My husband loved the spicy green sauce that accompanied his meal.

My, my, my, what a weird little place you are, Shiraz. Sure, I went to see you on a friend date…read more Sure, we were pre-movie early birds. But why you remained awkwardly empty--aside from the owner eating at one of the tables in the back--for the whole hour and change we were there still perplexes me. Especially since the owner/server was oddly charming, the Persian (does Persia still exist in the world of Culinaria?) tea was sweet but pleasing, the Vegetable Bourek was tasty, and the Moussaka was pretty excellent. So why did the dining experience leave me feeling like I just took down cheese-covered lentils in the Orientalist Twilight Zone? Oh, Shiraz--you might not have the aura of a "winner," but I like you anyway. So, Dear Reader, help a poor restaurant out--the next time you and your group want to go out for a lively meal, book Shiraz. The food is reasonably priced, they have cheap house wine, and a browse on localsecrets.com should turn up an offer or two. Whether you have the heart to cash in a 20% off food coupon as the only table in the house is up to you--I sure didn't.

Really nice restaurant. The food was delicious with good range of vegetarian dishes. The mixed…read moreplatter starter was a great way to see the general quality of the food - excellent hummus and tasty pita bread (which could've been a bit warmer). It's a shame the restaurant was so empty when we arrived at 7pm. The waitress was very friendly and helpful, and the prices were reasonable. If you're looking for something a bit different in Cambridge, I highly recommend it - makes a change from yet another 'Italian' restaurant!

I am glad to be trying new cuisines to be able to bring these to all and this place is a real gem…read more THE MOOD: In Finchley and easy location to travel to. Authentic interior with a large bread clay oven at the front where all the fresh nans are made. A busy environment but easy to talk and make conversation so no loud music and good acoustics. THE FOOD: We had the following dishes: Kash Bademjan - Egg plant dip and although I am not a fan usually but as this was all mashed up and mixed with other ingredients it goes well with the nan as well as the sauces that come along with this. Big enough starter to share. Nan - This comes along as standard as far as I can tell and worth ordering anyway as you will need to see the size of this but 1 will be enough for 2-4 of you to share. This is made fresh in clay oven and as I say this is a must. Chello Koubideh - Lamb kofte style with rice and you get two long kofte style pieces. Nice dish and I dont think you will finish this so be prepared for take away. Morassah Polo - I am told this is the the King of all Persian dishes and comes with the Persian Jewelled Rice. The rice is amazingly fragrant and comes with a splash of colours and tastes of sweetness that complements the chicken perfectly. The chicken itself is coated with a tomato coating and chicken is moist and falls off the bone, it was just perfect. You also get a curry sauce that compliments entire dish. I actually cant wait to go back here and again lots of food so again be ready for a take away. Tadig - This is the golden crunchy bottom rice layer, the crowning glory of all Persian rice dishes! To me this is better known as the burnt bottom of the rice, in Persian cuisine, it is much sought after! This was served with some great soft succulent meat pieces served with an amazing sauce with beans and some fries. A sharing dish again and worth trying but then maybe hold off on a starter. THE VERDICT: A good place to come and actually I ordered too much but even with enough food for three maybe four the price is reasonable and food is tasty and great atmosphere with friendly staff. Ok you pack your own doggy bag but that's ok. I would recommend a visit. £50.00 for two
