The best Iranian food we have had in the world so far. We ordered a bunch of food and everything was was delicious. My kids don't even like lamb but they changed their mind after eating it here. The service and the ambiance was very welcoming. They were very polite and made some recommendations as well. You need to check out the photos to see the amazing food and the before and after of it. Long ago I visited Iran and have always had a love for authentic Persian food, so when I'm in London and meet with Persian friends we frequently make for this restaurant. Had lunch at Colbeh yesterday...here are my thoughts: Ambiance is just okay. The restaurant is small and the decor is nothing to write home about. But the place is very clean, which is great. Service is kind of weird. Not sure if there's a language barrier but it seemed like nobody really understood us. Food took a while too. Food itself is really underwhelming. Shrimp were rubbery and unappealing. The seabass tasted fine but it was a bit burned and also full of little bones. Chicken kabob was good per my husband. Rice was delicious and salad was just okay. Everything needed salt and frankly, a much better presentation. Overall we found Colbeh unremarkable on all accounts. Based on these mostly glowing reviews we may have just visited on an off day? But in any case we won't be returning. read more

One of the best Persian restaurants in London. I don't leave in UK but every time I visit London, it's a must go to place for me.

Every time I'm in London, I stop by Colbeh. There's no dearth of middle-eastern options around Edgware Rd, and yet I believe Colbeh is a notch above everything else in the area. It's a small place, serving authentic Iranian fare, or so the locals tell me. You're frequently bound to wait to get seated, but the turnover is fast enough. There's no shisha here, no outdoor seating, no entertainment: it's all about the food. Get the naan, which they bake on the spot by slapping a freshly flattened chunk of dough on the upper side of the oven, it's an entertaining process to see. I usually order the fried aubergine and walnut spread to go with it (number 3 on the menu). My entree of choice is the lamb shank, a glorious chunk of meat cooked to perfection. You can get lamb any way you want it, diced on the grill, stewed in tomato sauce, minced in kebab style, all great in their own way. The chicken is also really good, but I think you need to savor the lamb first. For the undecided, they have a mixed platter for two that allows you to taste several specialties in one go. A few steps away from Hyde Park and the Marble Arch, Colbeh is a hidden gem with an enthusiastic crowd of local aficionados. And at that price, it's a steal that's hard to pass. read more

I am always looking for a good Iranian restaurant. I love Alounak in Bayswater, Anar in Notting Hill and now I am adding Colbeh to my list of favourite Persian restaurants. It is a small family place, quiet so you can chat with your friends and the staff is quite friendly. I had their lamb shank and it was absolutely delicious. Make sure you bring a bottle of wine as they don't serve alcohol. read more

I could eat their naan all by itself. Maybe 2 of them. It's the right combination of smoky, puffy & crunchy with sesame seeds sprinkled all over. Their seekh kababs are awesome & the rice is lightly flavored with saffron & butter. Love to mix all of this up with the mince salad on the menu. There's something very fresh & wholesome about their food. I could go back to eat here pretty often. Couldn't see the kitchen from where I was. The bathroom was downstairs (& not very clean, unfortunately). Except for the bathroom, the place seemed fairly accessible. read more

Damn fantastic. Damn, damn fantastic! I only come to London a few times a year for work and every time I find a way to get to this place. The food is really good although you have to kind of order the right things to really get the full experience. I recommend the mix of dishes because you're going to want to try a few different things. Beyond that, any place that has a bread making apparatus in the front of the restaurant, well, let's face it - how bad can they be? The bread steals the show. Also, being an American, I'm always impressed with the type of cultural integration one sees in London. The last time I was there, a table of about 8 women in burkhas sat there with their more modern looking, younger family. It was a zen moment I tell you. Just happy to enjoy that much variety. Love this place - if you're in London, you owe it to yourself to get there... The one downside (not really a downside) is the lack of alcohol. Again, its a cultural experience and they're muslim so, well, you get the idea. Just bring some beer from the local corner shop and it will all work out. read more

An great, reliable restaurant for "Persian" food - you can't go wrong with some steaming hot bread straight from their bread oven for starters, followed by an awesome variety of grills. Of particular note are the mixed grill, which is probably far too much for one person, but a great sampler none the less, and the "gouzi", or lamb shank. Their Iranian ice cream is a great way to finish any meal. read more

We read the reviews before stepping inside as the interior deco wasn't that appealing. My girlfriend and I both order a lamb shank each for the main, humus as starter and a freshly squeezed orange juice. The lamb shank surprisingly came very quickly and with it a few human hair on my girlfriend's plate. The orange juice never came but we were charged for it. Overall, the food was below average, not sure how this got so high rating on here. The service was bad. Not recommended. read more

You will not find better Persian cuisine in London. Start with the green and red aubergine starters, accompanied by hot sesame bread from the oven, and a dollop of garlic yoghurt. Follow through with a mix of minced kebabs, one chicken and one lamb. Order one lamb shank of the day to share (amongst at least four) on the side. Then stay in food heaven for the next hour.....the place is tiny and often you'll have to wait. Go early evenings or early on Sunday at lunchtime. I absolutely adore this place!! Me and my boyfriend make it a point to come here as often as we can (once a month at least!) The location is one of the best parts! It's behind edgwear rd so it's not as loud as the main road however this place is still as busy if not more than the bigger restaurants in the area! Iv seen the cues going half way down the street!! The decore really isnt a reflection of the quality of their food, standard chairs and table, nothing fancy, But hey who cares when the food is as good as it is here! Parking is fine, ur likely to find a spot close by after 6:30 but it does get busier around the back streets on fri/ sat/ sun! We pretty much always order the same thing as you can never go wrong with a koobideh from colbeh! For starters the salad Olivier and the mirza ghazemi (fried aubergine in a tomatoe sauce slightly spiced with eggs to bind) and with this we start with 2 naan breads and every last morsel of those starters are devoured within 10 mins! It's just delicious and the size of the portions are just right, not to big and not to small! For mains I will order the chelo jujeh (grilled chicken cubes marinated in saffron, lemon juice and sumac) and mr t will always order the koobideh (keebab) or the chicken and mince koobideh. The food is always clean and fresh, which is such an added bonus when ur paying London prices for food, the bill is usually no more than £25 and me and mr t are full to the brim! This place isn't really for desert but they do offer a standard iranian selection, nothing fancy enough to write about! On the whole we love this place! The food is clean and delicious it has a real home cooked quality. The staff are welcoming and the prices are totally reasonable! This place really deserves a 9 out of 10! read more

Absolutely the rudest people and worst service I have come across in London. So much for Persian hospitality, I was told at the end of our meal on Saturday 16th February, "if you have finished, can you leave as we have people waiting". The restaurant was not that busy, it was 9pm. That was after being served our starters, and along came the mains after 5 minutes, which then got cold because this dinner was meant to be a relaxing and sociable meal, which is often the case when we meet up with friends! When I mentioned politely, that wasn't the nicest of comments to make to paying customers, the head waiter started shouting back at me! I left, and commented, the fact he was shouting back, was enough to know what an awful low standard place this is. Goodness - I have eaten here before, not always the best standards, but passable. Food is always tasty and surprisingly cheap! I would say this is the best place in the Edgware Road area. The reason I only give them three stars is because as well as being consistently delicious the staff are also consistently rude! Not sure why but it seems that they dont find it necessary to treat their customers politely. I will keep coming back though when in the area as the food is worth it. read more

Colbeh had only good kuzi. Other than that food was bland. The worst part is the small restaurant and the worst ever waiters. They act in a very rude manner and they make you feel bad. One of them took the menu from my friends hand and told him if you dont like it leave !!!! Very poor service... Very aggressive rude waiters.. They want you to eat fast and leave so they can take the next customer ... You have to wait very long to get your order and you have 5mins to finish and leave. I don't recommend this restaurant... The food is ok but the service is the worst..
