    Best lunch spot near Holborn.
    Josy A.

Yum. This is easily the best lunch spot near Holborn. One of my colleagues went here for lunch last week and raved about it so much that several of us went back today to see what he was on about!! It is quite a small restaurant, but as Irene mentioned, they also have lots of space to sit outside. I have only been to Malaysia once, so I am not an expert (at all) on this kind of food...but I thought it was all soooooo good. I tried the beef rendang, which came with coconut rice, an egg, cucumber, peanuts & anchovies and a good dollop of sambal. I wish I could rewind time so that I wasn't soo full, because I want to eat it all again! Just come here for lunch and thank me with hugs later. (^^)

    Nasi Goren box!

It was the 2nd visit for me to taste their delicious malaysian food! What I ordered this time was a "Nasi Goren"! Yay! The restaurant's smell whetted my appetite and the staff was very kind and friendly with smile as usual. I got so full when I had a beef Rendang last time, so this time I just got Nasi Goren which was very good with moderate spiciness lingered in my mouth a while. But maybe it was better to add beef or veggie's topping? Next time!

    Dapur!

Dapur means kitchen in Malay language. I have been talking to my colleagues about Dapur for sometime before we finally went there last week - finally walk the talk! Please note that Dapur is open Monday to Friday from 11:30am to 3:00pm. It took us about 15 minutes to walk to Dapur from Holborn. Along the way we passed many alleys and back streets. Dapur is indeed a wonderful little gem in the back streets. They serve halal, authentic Malay dishes. When we got to Dapur there was already a queue for lunch. The cafe itself is compact, seating only 16. However they have tables and seats outside for customers to sit and enjoy the afternoon sun. I ordered Option Two which is a choice of white rice/coconut rice/fried vermicelli noodles and 2 dishes, meat/vege for only £6.95. I had white rice+ayam goreng bawang (fried chicken with onions)+stir fried vegetables served in cardboard box with plastic cutleries. I asked for extra gravy from the ayam goreng bawang and some sambal (chilli paste). The owner Sharizah and her staff Marliza were very friendly and also generous with their sambal :) I like the ayam goreng bawang very much especially mixed with sambal. Truly authentic Malay cuisine! I only realised that I had not taken a photo of my food to post on Yelp after I finished eating! There is always a next time! It was pleasant to seat outside to eat while our bodies absorb vitamin D from the sun... After eating, it took us a few minutes to find a bin to dispose of our lunch boxes. Perhaps the owners would want to inform customers who sit outside where to dispose of their lunch boxes. Dapur also caters for private events for a minimum of 15 people up to a maximum of 40 people. Food is nevertheless authentic, delicious and reasonably priced!

    Yummy mee Siam.

Nothing sounded that enticing and most all seemed very overpriced. As we continued to wander around, we encountered Warung and knew we were going to feast on one of their curries. I ordered their simple Malay chicken curry over rice and he ordered their beef rendang over rice. I don't recall seeing any vegetarian options. But both curries were really good and well-balanced! And BOTH were only 5£. It was quite an extraordinary amount of food for such a small price. It was also topped with fried onions and a bit of lettuce. The business is around all days of the week except Thursdays. You can see more about them here: https://www.facebook.com/KualaLumpurCafe I do recommend this place to someone looking for a cheap lunch in London if you're in the area.

The food itself is decent and very tasty. You get noodles or rice, curry, chili flakes, fried onions and some lettuce on top all for a fiver! which in my experience is pretty good seeing as a boots meal deal is now around that cost and this was definitely tastier! Will definitely try again next time I'm working in London!

We were tired after exploring Leicester Sq, and the Trafalgar area and looking for quick food. Googled and found this, looked very bright and quick grab, so decided to try this There's also a short menu of noodles and soups served in cardboard bowls. Inside, it's bright yellow and cheerful, but the vibe is grab-and-go, with just a sprinkling of seats. We ordered *Curry Chicken Potato puff - spicy mix inside, crunchy outside. It's commonly stuffed with curried chicken or potatoes and is a hybrid of other food items. It blends cornish pasties, samosas, and empanadas in the most beautiful way. * Fried Laksa Noodle with Sambal (Shrimp noodles) Joint runs by the owner and, I guess, his daughter. In a related and very lovely gesture, the server brought me a complimentary mutton roll (with chilli ketchup) and said they usually send something on the house for solo diners :) The roll was delicious -- savoury mutton without a strong game-y flavour that went really nicely with the mildly spicy ketchup. I decided to have an order of the Lankan chicken kari paired with a hopper. I did not know what a hopper was before then (let alone seen one), so it was an interesting surprise when I was served this unevenly thick, bowl-shaped rice pancake. Fortunately, I did not go wrong with this choice, as the hopper was so delicious. The light rice-based flavour of the hopper paired so nicely with the rich, slightly spicy curry and the tender and savoury chicken, and I really liked the textural variety of the hopper itself (thicker, spongier base and thinner, crispier sides). The ratio of hopper to curry was not quite right, though, so I ended up ordering another roti to enjoy the remaining half of my curry and chicken. The roti was really delicious -- fluffy on the inside and perfectly crispy on the outside -- and similarly paired super well in carrying the curry flavour. All in all, price point was pretty solid for the quality and amount of food. I thought the hopper was pricier than expected, but conversely the curry was less so -- so overall it all seemed quite reasonable. I would love the chance to come visit again and try more of their deliciously fragrant curry options next time.
