A lot of attention to detail on the decor

This place has just about every amenity and the food is excellent on top. First, the food. The flavors are spot on without heavy handed use of sauce and seasoning. I had the lamb cous cous which had flavor in every bite. The cous cous was rich and buttery. The lamb tender with a bit of sweetness. The appetizer I has was fattoush which was bright in flavor. The greens could have been crisper but the salad was solid. So the amenities. There is the garden in the back for when the weather is good. The decor is authentic and covers the restaurant in every corner. There is a private party room, wifi, and if you are in the mood for a smoke you can take advantage of the shisha. In the evenings, you can even find belly dancing.

Browsing through restaurants in nearby Stratford on the Tastecard app, I found Dar Marrakech, and having never really done Moroccan/Lebanese grub before, decided to give it a shot. Entering through the ornate (and also pretty heavy) doors, I was bowled over by the decor. No plain white walls or identikit furnishings here - the team have managed to create a fabulous Moroccan atmosphere with drapings, lights, amazingly patterned plates which I NEED in my house...you get the idea. We were sat at a table that had one chair and a section of booth. Thanks to the booth being lower than the chairs and me always demanding to sit on the comfiest seats, I had to pop a cushion under myself to actually reach the table booster seat style...but it was a comfy as heck cushion, at least. As we were using Tastecard for 50% off the bill, we weren't too worried about spends, so opted for a full three course meal and a bottle of house white. For starters, we went for a few faves - halloumi in pitta bread and calimari. The halloumi was PERFECT - like, the kind of level I wish I could cook halloumi to at home. The calimari was also great, well cooked, and both were good sized starter portions with plenty of salad to help you feel at least a little bit healthy while stuffing your face. I totally forget that prawns live in shells, and had a bit of a shock when my Butterfly Prawn main dish (yeah, clue's in the name really...) arrived fully shelled up. Argh. Thankfully, I managed to de-shell with minimum seafood-based casualties other than the prawn that decided to make a break for it and settled on the restaurant floor. And the meaty bits themselves were very tasty - although it was the harissa sauce that really stole the dish for me. So very good and just the right amount of spicy, especially mixed all up in the rice. Yum. We decided to hit up dessert too, getting some ice cream and baklava. Which I always accidentally call balaclava. I don't usually wear desserts on my head. I'm not normally that fussed on baklava but this one was actually epic, and I wolfed it down incredibly quickly. Dar Marrakech offers up some brilliant Moroccan and Lebanese food in London, and the venue decor makes the evening feel a bit special. 100% would go back - but I'll probably opt for the less messy seabass next time...

The cook also put his apron back on again and came and made us a nice meal. After a few hours at pub we decided to take a taxi back to the Excel only to realize many of the restaurants around here were already shut. I walked in here and asked if they would kindly serve us a meal and they obliged. The menu is big and has plenty of choice for veg and non veg eaters. The hummus to start was very nice and flavourful and the shawarma from chicken that followed was also very nice. I had takeaway from here one night and it was also quick and very nice indeed. A decent place for a meal in the area and I would happily come here again.

Second night here, and had previously gone to another Lebanese restaurant the night before. This is only 0.6 mile away from Aloft and is 5 short minute walk from the ExCel. I ran pass by it the day before and I was quite pleasantly surprised this is NOT inside of the ExCel but rather close to the dock. Took photos of it so that I'd remember to come for the evening meal after the show. At 9:30, the restaurant was not too crowded. Ordered Beirut hummus and Lebanese sausage to start. For mains, we had lamb stew, lamb shank, mixed grill and chicken kabobs, It was a lot of food, and they were very very tasty. The place is average priced for Lebanese food, and the portions are fairly decent. The flavors are really good, especially that it came with chips (for us Americans, it's fries, but for the little people who grew up with Charlie and Lola and Doctor Who, they know what's what) for the little people instead of the rice. A very nice gesture. Bread was very fresh. A super satisfying meal. An unexpected treat of that evening: there were fireworks off the dock. While in Britain, someone is celebrating Fourth of July like us. I can assure you this never happens in France over Fourth of July. As happy as it can be.

On the last day of our trip we walked into this restaurant. We chose it due to it's close location to our hotel, and it was a choice based on convenience as opposed to interest. I was quickly surprised. After a full day of tours and sightseeing we were tired and hungry. Upon entering the restaurant the staff greeted us with a friendly and inviting demeanor that immediately helped improve my mood. Although, it's not much to look at from the outside, the inside is clean, and well decorated with modest middle eastern decor. The quality of the meal was nothing short of amazing. The appetizer they served me had the tastiest hummus I've ever had. I ordered a shrimp plate that caught my attention and I can honestly say this was the single best shrimp recipe I've ever had in my life. I would have gladly payed the chef hundreds of dollars for the recipe just so I could recreate it at home. My wife enjoyed her meal just as much as I did. We quickly agreed that this had been the single best meal of the entire trip. Now if I can just talk the owner into selling me that recipe
