Finally visited this Turkish/Med restaurant after passing it by quite a few times. Upon entering my…read moregirlfriend and I were amazed by the decor, it is much more contemporary styled compared to other Turkish restaurants I have visited. I would say it is more of a smart casual affair than I was expecting. The food prices are still competitive and what you expect from this cuisine with most grilled meats and fish coming in just north of £10. Starters sit around the £5 mark. I ordered the simple lamb shish, my girlfriend the iskinder kebab (lamb baked in a tagine with yoghurt). For starters we shared hummus and fried white bait. The white bait was excellent with a real fresh zing, the hummus lovely and rich with the free bread and olives served with your meal. The lamb was delicious in both the mains and they were very generous portions - we had to ask for a doggy bag to take home. If I was to be very picky, I would have preferred the pitta bread to be a little less 'toasty'. I like the warmed breads from Turkish restaurants which have been grilled with the fat of the meats! We didn't need a reservation for a Saturday night when we arrived before 8pm. Though it was very full all evening. I would definitely return.

It's £13.50 for the meze including dessert. I got the veg meze and she the meat (chicken). A bland soup and two delicious mini feta and spinach spanikopita start the meal and then a starter of dips and various food like broad beans, hummus, beets, etc. Some were flavorful and others bland. Overall though the food was lukewarm (when some items should have been served warmer) which I was disappointed at. Only the bread (which my friend loved) was served hot. I enjoyed my roasted veg and potato main (served hot) but the rice and peas accompanying it were bland. But the salad was delicious; loved the dressing! My friend loved her chicken and overall seemed to enjoy the flavors better than I did, as I saw it as hit or miss. The dessert was a homemade yogurt with honey which I loved but my friend not so much. The Greek wine is cheap and very good! I got a white and my friend the red. We got a carafe of tap water but it took some arm-twisting in that the owner only wanted to serve us bottled water initially. It was only upon ordering wine that he digressed. The owner speaks in a low voice but is obviously passionate about his food and business. I wasn't sure I would be full because the meze looks small (I eat a lot) but I left pleasantly sated.

A friend found this restaurant while looking for a restaurant that would take the Taste Card. In the end we took advantage of their mid-week deals of 2 courses for £9.95 - bargain. The food was simple, fresh and generous. I had a Halloumi starter which was perfectly grilled and not too squeeky at all and an Okra and rice main. All were very tasty, very generous and came with a fresh side salad. The menu is very good for vegetarians and has an extensive drinks list. More impressivly, alongside it's really reasonably priced cocktail list was a great selection of non-alcoholic drinks (not just a can of diet coke for me) We had fantastic service from a very freindly guy in a blue jumper and our waitress, who pre-empted our desire for extra chilli and garlic sauce. Overall I was very plesantly surprised. I normally dislike restaurants that play popular music and have a version of MTV showing on all walls, but the music wasn't soo loud it drowned out the conversation. There's plenty of room inside and outside. With Shisha and outdoor heaters as well as a clean and sleek decore, I can see this place ticking all the boxes for a good night out with drinks too. So if you're in the area and fancy some fresh grub and a bit of Shisha - take a turn off the main road for a real solid establishment.

I have officially dubbed this place the best spot for cocktails in Streatham, and one of the best in London; they really know how to mix booze here. The food is also pretty good, though of the recent menu, I've only tried the burger and chips/ fries. Cocktails are a must, however, and though it's hard to choose, the Espresso Martini and Apple Kiwi Martini are my favorites. The first is creamy and decadent, the second is fruity, tart, and refreshing; both have just the right balance of sweetness, in my opinion. The venue is currently free to hire and they have a DJ every Friday and Saturday night. Even during the week, though, the music is always exotic and complements the space perfectly; sans the noise of traffic just a few feet away from the street. The prices are not at all bad, and for what you're getting, I'd even go so far as to say they're on the cheaper side. The service can vary depending on the day, but with an ambiance this nice... who cares?

The Hamlet has two/three purposes…read more The first is it has a small bare area with stools , only a couple, which I have seen people sit at and have a drink. The second is the restaurant, and I must say portion sizes are good and the food was very good. Service is prompt and good, you don't wait too long for you food once ordered. If you want to have a quiet conversation this might not be the right place as the restaurant is small the conversations can get loud. The third purpose is the downstairs space that you can higher for your celebrations. It has its own bar so no need to go upstairs for drinks. The space can hold 30/40 people comfortably if you want to have a dance. The Hamlet can dress the room and provide finger food for your party. They have a built in DJ booth, your DJ just needs to plug in and play. If you are in south london and looking for a venue to have a celebration this is a space to consider.
