A friend found this restaurant while looking for a restaurant that would take the Taste Card. In the end we took advantage of their mid-week deals of 2 courses for £9.95 - bargain. The food was simple, fresh and generous. I had a Halloumi starter which was perfectly grilled and not too squeeky at all and an Okra and rice main. All were very tasty, very generous and came with a fresh side salad. The menu is very good for vegetarians and has an extensive drinks list. More impressivly, alongside it's really reasonably priced cocktail list was a great selection of non-alcoholic drinks (not just a can of diet coke for me) We had fantastic service from a very freindly guy in a blue jumper and our waitress, who pre-empted our desire for extra chilli and garlic sauce. Overall I was very plesantly surprised. I normally dislike restaurants that play popular music and have a version of MTV showing on all walls, but the music wasn't soo loud it drowned out the conversation. There's plenty of room inside and outside. With Shisha and outdoor heaters as well as a clean and sleek decore, I can see this place ticking all the boxes for a good night out with drinks too. So if you're in the area and fancy some fresh grub and a bit of Shisha - take a turn off the main road for a real solid establishment.

But I'm glad I popped back in. It's grown up in the meantime! I had a salad which was fresh and delicious (although drowning in overly sweet sauce - on the side next time!) Lovely service too.

The cafes location used to be know as the 'frontline' and is notorious for being the location of the Brixton Riots in the early eighties. Although this is still not a completely safe neighbourhood at night the street is now a mix of boutiques, cafes and restaurants and by far the best of these is Lounge. Run by local boy and former actor Maynard Eziashi (watch out for him in the beautiful Mr Johnson with Pierce Brosnan) the cafe used to be just a tiny room on the corner of the street. Now it is a large and fully licensed restaurant as well as a cafe with another branch in the nearby gentrified Balham. The cafe serves up homemade smoothies and shakes as well as full English breakfasts in the morning, ciabattas at lunchtimes and both exotic and traditional English food in the evenings all of which can be enjoyed by the huge windows facing out onto the extremely watchable street life of Brixton.

I've only been there cause a friend was the DJ and so naturally the music was good. However, no one really danced to this good music and they only began to move when another (rubbish) DJ took to the decks. This isn't just about bitterness or sympathy for my friend it's just a bad club. There isn't really any atmosphere to speak up, the different areas don't feel connected and the space in between the rooms is so silent and bright it feels like a call centre stuck between two nightclubs. The drinks aren't too expensive and they do special offers on promoted nights but beware incredibly annoying door staff and a permanent negative to cancel out anything half decent about this club/bar/whatever.

I can't say I've ever really enjoyed coming here, we've always had attitude from doormen and the bar staff even though we're always amiable drunks rather than the loud aggressive usuals that come here. The place is a pickup joint and reminds me of a small-town club rather than something that belongs in central London but maybe it's just not aimed at someone like me. Never been here any earlier that 10.30pm so couldn't tell you what it is like at any other time.

We ordered two drinks under the happy hour special, which meant we received four--but all of the same drink. While the lychee martini sounded promising, it was far sweeter than I prefer, likely masking the fact that it had barely any alcohol in it. My sister's margarita was also disappointing, tasting mediocre at best. For food, we ordered the Wings of Fire, the Deep-fried Seabass, and the Lamb Chops. Unfortunately, the wings were heavily battered, overcooked, and underwhelming--just like the rest of the meal. The seabass had decent presentation, but it lacked seasoning and depth of flavor. The lamb, while tender and falling off the bone, was overly sweet, with the red peppers adding nothing to balance it out. Both entrées came with rice, and while the portion sizes were generous, the seasoning was lacking--garlic, onion, ginger, salt, and pepper would have made a world of difference. Service-wise, it was good but painfully slow, especially considering the restaurant wasn't busy. Even settling the bill took longer than expected. The bathrooms could use some attention, as paper was scattered across the floor. On a positive note, they get a 10/10 for music--loud enough to enjoy but still at a level where we could hold a conversation. I probably won't return.

It was also very close to the Underground station so folks like me wouldn't have to worry. The Mai tai I had was a delicious and only £5 during happy hour. My beef negril satay was SO good that I ended up ordering it twice lol. My prawn chips were yummy too. I was very satisfied and the items the rest of the group had were delicious too. The only annoyance I had was because we were sitting outside, we had to order everything inside. It's a bit inconvenient to have to get up and order something every time you're hungry / thirsty. They should have had at least one server outside.
