The portions were HUGE and satisfying. The fish was battered perfectly tasted great. The chips were delicious as well. I found the tartar sauce to be strange as it tasted more like salad cream. It was overly sweet and way too creamy. The restaurant itself looks great but it can get very busy during lunchtime. We dropped by around 1ish and were seated in the oddest way. One member of our party was very far away- the seating was totally inappropriate. Our waiter moved us later but they should not seat people in this fashion. It's is very unprofessional. Our waiter was nice but was very rushed all the time. It was hard to get his attention. it was obvious the restaurant was understaffed. Overall, I give Slug and Lettuce a 3.5. The food is great but the service and seating needs to change.

You put the whole shell in your mouth, crunch crunch and then take the shot of green spice water. You get six shot glasses, five with the green water and one with yoghurt and tamarind, although the server called this turmeric, which it was not. The potato bhajia was pretty good, nice and crispy and a large serving. All the sauces are made off-site and purchased from a vendor (they told me). The tamarind sauce was soso, but chilli sauce was good. The mango lassi was a bit small being served in a copper mug, rather than a tall glass. I imagine this lounge is nice looking in the evening a probably the place to be in the local suburbia. But service was a bit inattentive. However, there are much better pubs to eat out at in Uxbridge such as the Fig Tree or the Queens Head. As such it was a bit of a squish inside but kudos for the long semi-circular bar counter that takes centre stage - I hate it when places have a tiny straight bar in a corner that you have to queue 5 people deep at! Bartenders also seemed good fun and switched on, so despite being packed you never had to wait long to order. I was already 'warmed up' having come from another bday session (dedication eh) so by the time I arrived people were already at the shots stage of the night. Found an especially yummy one in the Passion Bomb (passoa + red bull) so shared a few of those with the bday girl ;) Fun place if you're in the area and there's a karaoke room out the back too (sadly didn't get to try it this time). Decor is quite understated and almost cosy too - I like that it wasn't trying to be too cool.

Special note must be given to the questionable carpet. However, when you observe the people who are in the bar / pub (Again, not quite sure which one it's trying to be), it seems to be a majority older crowd that you'd expect to see in traditional boozer. Therefore, the overall atmosphere in the place just doesn't seem quite right to me. Not relaxing enough to want to stay for several beers, but not upmarket enough to be a place that you feel you should be sipping a decent glass of wine or cocktail (Sellling Peroni instead of real ale doesn't make a place trendy).

It took us 25 mins to get our drinks even though there were 2 people behind the bar and only about 4 others at the bar, none of which were ordering mind you. The bar staff was just more interested in cleaning up than helping people it seemed. The girl rolled her eyes and glared the whole time she was making the drinks, and had to ask after each drink she made what else it was that we had wanted. All this was done while wearing her house slippers. I was very unimpressed, and felt extremely uncomfortable the entire time. I would rather brave the overcrowded Red Lion than be glared at while I try to have a quick drink.

I'm no drinker nor an eater of English food. It's a 16th century listed building, which looks very interesting from inside and out. With low beams, cosy enclosures for seating, a vestibule area and two miniature main areas The bar however is the central feature. I think this place is well worth visiting just to have a good look at the structure of the building. It has plenty of parking space and because of its age and character should really be a minor tourist destination (albeit in what most people would consider an 'unlikely' area). It's worth visiting as there is also the 12th century stone church across the road, and the 17th century town hall next to it. All of these are very well preserved listed buildings you can poke around in or around, and they are all in the same place so this vicinity should at least be a secondary focal point for national and international visitors who would visit Windsor anyway. Currently however it is 'off the beaten track'. If you're going there to eat and drink you will find the bar staff attractive, friendly and helpful. Although obviously, as it's Slough, don't expect them to know anything about wine, cocktails or single malts. The food (from the website) is priced very reasonably. I did have a good look at the bar and saw a lot of continental lagers but only one real ale. That is a serious negative in my book. A pub like this ought to be a haven for real ale afficionadi, but it's not. I will give the benefit of the doubt and say perhaps they have a few casks but they're not on labelled taps at the bar itself. Despite being a 16th century public house, this place is not immune from economic forces, and economic forces for any pub are dictated by its immediate local area. In this case, there is a large LCD screen inside, that was switched to a Polish sports channel (sadly) when I visited. Also, one chair had a broken leg, and there is definitely room for improvement in hygiene (tables mainly).
