Small, cosy cafe with a largely Turkish menu and very friendly staff. The set menus offer a decent amount of food, and decent quality for the money. There's a good vegetarian selection. The Turkish lager is lovely and malty and recommended. Three courses are around £18 so you can eat for under £25 a head. There's no piped music so you can chat happily. Had lunch at the Mediterranean Cafe yesterday....here are my thoughts: Ambiance: This restaurant is really small and a bit cramped. It was raining yesterday and because the doors were wide open it was quite chilly and uncomfortable. The restaurant needs a good clean, including the restrooms. Service: Our server was very nice but had some difficulty understanding English. I requested no cream sauce on my entree but it came with it anyway...communication was a challenge. Food: -- Salmon wasn't very fresh and I had to eat around the cream sauce (see above). The kitchen did remake my side of spinach without cream though, and it was excellent! -- Husband liked the Iskander chicken (I didn't try this). -- Daughter had the mezze platter which was nicely presented. Wasn't that impressive taste-wise though. Especially for a place that specializes in Mediterranean food. Overall: Mediterranean Cafe was just mediocre in my book. We stopped in here for dinner with friends visiting from out of town. We just wanted to sit somewhere and have a bite to eat. I suspected that the restaurant's name, Mediterranean, would probably be an attempt to cover every country that touches that body of water. This isn't necessarily a bad thing but it's rarely a good thing. I asked the waitress where the chef was from (he's Turkish) so decided to focus on something from that region. They have a great prix fixe menu - 2 courses for £16 - so I settled for the spinach and feta fritters followed by the kofte. The fritters were very very average and came with a lacklustre salad. The kofte turned out to be pretty good although the fixings brought the dish down. The service was friendly enough. I don't think it will be on my list of places to revisit in Soho. Fantastic staff, so friendly and passionate about what they do. I went in on my own late on a Tuesday; I just needed a bite to eat and by the end of the night I'd made great friends with the ladies on the table next and Ali our Waiter. We had a great conversation ended up reading each other's cups after a gorgeous Turkish coffee. And at the end of the night we had a few group photos and the girls on holiday took our email address to send them to us. I think it rivals savage salad in terms of flavor, but I have a huge weakness for Mediterranean food, so there bias is strong with me! As a huge fan of Turkish food, I decided to try out the Mediterranean Cafe, and decided to try out this little haunt in Soho. When we were sat down, I was dismayed that the sizes of the table were relatively small and the restaurant felt rather cramped. However, the noise level was okay enough to be able to talk without needing to raise voices. The decor on the walls is of several theatre production posters, which I thought was a bit random, but I guess it is the West End. Also confusing was some of the items on the menu didn't really seem Mediterranean, such as a Sirloin Steak or Cheeseburger? We both ordered Turkish dishes (I had the Iskender Kofte), and the dishes that came out were of very generous portions, and tasted fantastic. Thumbs up for how nicely the lamb was cooked and the combination of flavours. The price for both dishes and a bottle of wine came out to be under £40, which was great value for such a lovely meal. read more

This is a place that my boyfriend used to frequent many years ago, when he worked in the area and in late August, he brought me hear with his parents for breakfast. The breakfast deal is amazing- a full English with tea/coffee for five pounds. London is an expensive town and this is a great deal. The food is plentiful and tasty. I'm not a huge fan of breakfast and specifically heavy breakfast items, but I ate my meal and enjoyed it. The server was nice and the place had an eclectic/fun vibe. Mediterranean cafe is probably the only place about which I don't really know what to say. Like someone else mentioned, I find it a bit confusing. But maybe that's the interesting side about it. I went for dinner and there was no "woaah" factor, but it was not bad either. The menu is very simple, nothing glamourous but good & decent (my steak was cooked to my expectations - believe me, this is something rare) and the service was great all the way. The decor is really heavy/busy - you can barely see the colour of the walls - with posters of west end shows all over, statues, wall painting of 'La Joconde' in a corner, draping on the ceiling, big fertility statue in another corner (yes, I noticed...), so you find yourself a bit overwhelmed and in a kind of surreal environment. Where am I, in fact? Ended up paying £44 for a 2 courses meal for 2 with a drink each. Not bad. So although they might want to work on the deco - mediterranean, so west end show posters?? no-no - it's actually a very decent, cheap little restaurant in the area. First off, fantastic service! The people here are very friendly and accommodating. I went with a large group of friends and we had a great time. The food was good, nothing special though. The menu was quite large, but as far as vegan fare goes, it was just falafel or (possibly) pasta, which is quite strange for a Turkish restaurant. I totally judged this place by its unremarkable tourist-ville cover, and was pleasantly surprised! A group of us were being sensible between drinking stops and stopped in for a bite before we had to make our bar reservation. One of the girls had booked ahead and we got a table for 11 downstairs; it looks like they're well set up to expect big groups as we had a party of 14 right next to us. The service was so friendly - it was really refreshing to find not a hint of snootiness when we said we were just going to order a mix of starters for everyone and most of us ordered tap water. The food came out promptly and hit the spot - I enjoyed the mixed mezze which all tasted fresh, and I was glad we ordered extra halloumi. The mixed grill was also a generous portion, though trickier to share. I wouldn't make a special trip here but it's an A-OK choice if you want somewhere with restaurant seating to take shelter for a casual, unfussy feed. Good value for money too. read more

After many mediocre, loud, overly crowded meals in Soho, this was an oasis. The atmosphere was great, loved the fifties music, the service spot on, and the food excellent. We shared the mezze platter to start and everything was so good, maybe a little too much mint in the tzatzki, but otherwise excellent. As a main dish we had the chicken tarragon and again everything was flavourful, and the large variety of vegetables included was a nice bonus. We are leaving London so unfortunately this discovery was a little late. I hope the locals enjoy. read more

Mediterranean Cafe is probably one of the cheapest places to eat in Soho. The food, service and atmosphere are close to perfect. There is a huge selection all listed on their website and they even have daily specials. I had the spicy sausage and lamb casserole and was suprised by the quality of the food for the price. My oartner had the spinach and feta parcels which I found bland. She then had the cumberland sausage which was very tasty. The only real fault with the Mediterranean Cafe is that a lot of the cuisine on offer is not strictly Mediterranean. Fish and Chips, Cumberland sausage, all of which are nice options to have when choosing a meal but not good in terms of marketting a restaurant as Mediterranean. Some may also dislike the decor - the walls are covered with ads for shows currently at the theatre. Still the Med Cafe comes highly recommeded as a good restaurant in the heart of Soho in which to have a relaxing, tasty and great value meal read more

Very confusing place - used to be a great place to eat- the interior an eclectic collection of show posters etc, and loud popular operatic arias in the background. Menu cheap (especially the set menu) and was a great place for a cheap and quick business lunch (the Turkish red wine was ok too). The last two times I have been however the standard has not been as good. Used to be a sure fire winner- now seems more hit and miss- but worth a try when there are so many expensive bad places in Soho. read more

I took their mix and match wrap for take-out, absolutely great! For 4.50£ you get a huge wrap filled with delicious chicken, potatoes, spinach and feta cheese, and a nice spicy chili sauce along with it. More than enough for lunch, the wrap itself is pretty thin which I love, so you're not carbed up to the brim after your meal. I definitely reccomend it! read more

Fairly good main course pasta, however the desert was a very bland banoffee pie which had clearly sat in the fridge for a long while and my accomplice had the stuffed apricots, also very bland and clearly pre prepared however one had been remover from the plate leaving a gap, whilst other tables clearly had all three! I love this place! We live in Hampshire and visit London often with different friends for the theatre. found this place by chance and have now visited with different friends 4 times. its very quirky with west end show posters and very cosy. music is not loud so no shouting to be heard. Food is good always tastes fresh and plenty to choose on the menu. We usually opt for a set menu and expect small portions when doing so. Not the case here starters are large mains are huge, deserts not large but we are struggling to fit any more food by then. The owner "Ali" is usually there and very friendly, he sat chatting with us for several minutes and seems to have a good flow of regulars, all knowing him by name. We are not the easiest people to please and even if a place is ok we do not usually revisit as like to try different places, but this one is going to be a regular for us. already recommended and booked for 2 further visits with large group of colleagues read more

Good spinach pancake, tasteless stuffed apricots, and the plate clearly had had one of three fruit removed, there was actually a smudgy mark of cream on the plate! The lady on the next table had three apricots on her plate, but not me, and when I complained that I had only two, the waitress looked embarrassed, disappeared and after lengthy consultation with the chef, explained that I was not eating from the al a carte menu. My son's main course spaghetti was a tiny helping, but tasty, he said. Of five dessert options, the one he chose was not available, and the only ice cream flavour was vanilla. However, cheerful friendly staff, good music from films of the sixties, and dozens of theatre posters on the walls, makes for a good atmosphere. read more
