This is a phenomenal Greek restaurant. The food feels so homey and authentic. The staff that serves us was actually from Greece as well. We started with some apps for the table. The dips (tzatziki, lebneh, greek meatballs and spicy feta) specifically stood out. I don't eat octopus, but the group gave raving reviews. As a main dish, I got the moussaka which was another incredible dish and paired nicely with a red wine bottle that we shared. Their dessert was to die for as well. Lemonia was our final lunch in London. We definitely ended our time in London with an exceptional greek meal. Lemonia does not accept reservations. Be mindful of this in case you are on a tight schedule. They offer a 3 course lunch for 17.50 pounds. Our boys ordered the Meatballs to start, I enjoyed the Lentil soup and my husband had the Beetroot and feta salad. Three of us had the Sea bass and my youngest ordered the Fish and chips. I was quickly seated upon entry and served by a waiter, which already was a good start. I got the aubergine "salad"- really a dip- and the artichokes and beans starters. The mains seemed a bit pricey to me. Another positive for this place is the complementary dish of radishes, olives and carrots placed on the table, drizzled with olive oil. A really lovely touch! Pita is extra. Both my dishes were very good. Full of herbs that commented the vegetables; the artichoke dish is in a tomato sauce and there is a generous serving of beans. Had dinner at Lemonia the 1st night we arrived in London. The hotel we were staying recommended this place so off we went and took ourselves to Lemonia. They open at around 5:30pm so we were a tad early arriving at 5:00, since we were hungry we went to a cafe close by, which was Gooseberry cafe, had tea and bagel lox, then after our appetizer we walked back to Lemonia. The restaurant is a good sized place, you do feel welcomed as you were greeted by staff, who felt like they have been there for many years. We ordered different things at table, my apologies, as I'm writing this review a month after my visit, I couldn't remember what each one got. But, I remembered mine. I have not seen rabbit on the menu before. I was curious and wanted to try it, so I bravely ordered rabbit stew and red wine. I figure if I didn't like it, I know I will enjoy the wine. I was pleasantly surprise, meat was tender and flavorful. It felt delicate and chef treated this dish with care. Our waiter was friendly, gave great suggestions and made us feel at home. Lovely restaurant in a great area. Food was delicious and served quickly. We ate early to get to a show in Central London. Portions are well sized. Good wine list and drinks. We had beef, chicken and fish and they were all great. Side rice was yummy. Helpful staff with dietary restrictions. London is great about asking about dietary needs. The back of the restaurant has a lovely garden like area with a glass ceiling so even though it was raining it was bright and comfortable to sit and chat. Wow, this place is special! It's a very authentic Greek restaurant located in Primrose Hill. The interior is wonderfully decorated and makes you feel at home and oh so happy. Service is excellent- they catered to our every need and didn't make us feel rushed in any way despite the restaurant being very busy. The food was delicious. I think one of my favourite things was the side of broad beans. It had such wonderful rich flavours- I could have had that as a main meal and been as happy as a puppy. What? It's true. We also shared the hummus with pita bread, dolmas, seafood platter and stuffed vegetables. The seafood was all grilled perfectly. Overall, the food they offer here is just very high quality and wonderful tasting. They don't make anything crazy out of it, it's just lovingly cooked with quality ingredients. I have wanted to dine at Lemonia for quite some time and finally got my opportunity late last night. This very popular Primrose Hill, Greek restaurant was as vibrant as ever. On being seated my lady and I were transported into what I can only describe as a stunning garden type restaurant. There were huge hanging baskets spilling over with dark green foliage, and although I have never been to Greece, I couldn't help but feel transported there. Every server was a character straight out of Grumpy Old Men. This really added something to the atmosphere. Being served by Old Greek men leads to a different vibe than if being served by a giggly 18yr old girl. There was only one choice for the food. We had the £18.50 per head Mezze. Every dish was fresh tasting and decidedly yummy. The hummus we had was potentially the best I have ever eaten. Our three courses were served with precise timing and we were full to bursting by the end of the meal. In addition to being so winningly lovely, Lemonia backs it all up with delightfully satisfying Mediterranean cuisine at an immensely reasonable price. I opted for a crab salad starter followed by a lamb stew main and was thoroughly pleased by both. I can't believe I haven't reviewed this place because I have been here so many times. I always get the same thing, the mezze to share which I think is £18.50. Expensive, but it's SO MUCH FOOD. The waiters always snort at me and my friend for thinking we can handle it but they are generally impressed by our attempt by the end! It's a lot of classic dishes done simply, with cold mezze to start, then hot mezze, then a meat platter with rice and salad, (then Turkish delight if you get coffee!). For the other reviewers complaining about expense v portion size: this is where you have been going wrong. You will need a fast paced walk up Primrose Hill to ease your straining stomach after all that lot. The other two things I like about this place are the very nice woman front of house, and their fresh mint tea. In the 5 years or so I lived abroad I came here almost every visit home to catch up with one of my best friends, and we would sit way past the last of the lunch trade without ever once being even gently rushed out. We sometimes take a detour on our walk home, and we noticed that this place is always always busy, with happy diners and tasty looking food...So one night we dropped in to give it a try. I really loved the food here. The spanakopita, the saganaki cheese, the grilled seafood, the courgette croquettes... it was all just lovely. We even had room for desert, so I can also report that the greek yogurt and the lemon tart are both tasty too! The waiters could be hard to flag down, even though there were quite a few under occupied who just seemed to chill near the main entrance. But other than that, I really enjoyed everything. B-list British celebs and equally dull food. So the food: Quail was dry and garnished like it was the 80's still. Saganaki was dry and expensive and boring. Aubergine mash/dip was bland and mealy. Bread was boring and dry. Salad had this awful sweet dressing on it. Bleh! I can't believe this is my local restaurant. So let down. The only good thing was the wine, probably because they didn't make it themselves. Why this place is so highly rated is simply beyond me. ps. Since the service is grudging at best, please stand up to the optional 12.5% service charge. Don't fall for this Britain- restaurants play of your social fear of looking cheap to get you to pay this. The service here can be seriously slow and the food is already way overpriced for what it is. Wait staff in the UK are paid a living wage and get national health. Most in London pay more as well. In America service workers often don't have health care, and rely on tips. Waiters in many American states can earn as little as $2.13 USD an hour- seriously. It is a totally different system in America, don't be a sucker and adopt it in Britain just because other countries do it. read more

People who rate this place 4 stars + have probably never been to Greece and have no idea what Greek cuisine is: lots of fresh food, large portions, sharing generous quantities of mezze, fresh fish and ouzo. This place is a decent restaurant with good, friendly service, but the food is simply overpriced and generally of poor quality. The waiter was really surprised when we asked what ouzo brands they had. We were planning to order a bottle of 700ml -as you would normally do for a table of 4- but they only had tiny bottles of 20ml priced at £17. They see mezzes more like individual starters, rather than a proper mezzes...and again the quality was just average. Nice place with good location near primrose hill. There's the beautiful garden area inside the restaurant, brings a touch of fresh and greeness. It's the first time I tried greek food. We had the starters and two mains, the seafood mixed grill and mixed meat grill, with the special greek drinks( I forgot the name lol) The meat and seafood are well cooked, very tender and tasty, espeicially the lamb. I have been going to this restaurant for a number of years as I have family members that live close to primrose hill. I recognize most of the longer term waiters. The food has over the years got worse but overall it's still ok. The service is declining from an already low starting point. Today's visit.. The food was quite good, the tabbouleh wasn't good today - not enough bulgur wheat. The other dishes were ok, except the hummus that was quite small. The restaurant is very pretty. The price is about right for a restaurant like this in primrose hill, Now the service was absolutely terrible, really really bad. The owners should be ashamed of themselves as it reflects badly on the amazing culture of Greece, which is full or warm people. (Especially in the food and beverage industry). Most of the service people have been serving for the restaurant for a number of years. To start the waiter went to give me a menu and then pulled it away from me. Not a good start, but at that point it was quite funny. Then when I was deciding what to eat our waiter became inpatient and started bellowing out suggestions quickly - he made multiple suggestions in a matter of seconds. All of which were totally wrong and which he had no basis to suggest. When I asked for one of the dishes he made out he couldn't understand what I asked for. I may have said it wrong, but his response could certainly have been more polite. Then one of our guests asked if the food had an ingredient he was allergic to. His first response was it should be ok!! Only upon firmly pressing did he say he would ask. He obviously didn't know and who knows if he even asked. The UK is very strict on allergy issues and it's obvious that he had not received any training on this issue, nor did he even care. This is quite unbelievable and very worrying. It gets better, another server shouted out the food name of one of the dishes; when I said it belonged to us. He stretched and passed the dish to my hand, like we were part of relay team. Not serving the food to our table is exceptionally rude, for a mid price restaurant like this - it's totally unacceptable. Then as we finished the meal the waiter lurched over our table as if he was pressurizing us to leave. Kept on forcing the issue about whether we wanted desert or not, we responded we need more time. We were going to have dessert, but frankly speaking we were very frustrated at this point. The person who was paying the bill was too embarrassed to ask for the 12.5% optional service charge to be removed from the bill. They thought that it would make them seem "cheap". Even though it was obvious the service was awful. I'm sure many people share this level of embarrassment and fear about complaining. Other reviews on Yelp have identified similar service problems, and I want to re-iterate what another reviewer said: Do not pay the optional 12.5% unless the service is good. And please do not be embarrassed to request the charge be removed. If service is average pay 5%. If it bad, don't pay anything. When people are too embarrassed to speak up, it provides an incentive to the staff to not improve and not serve properly. That's bad for the patron, for the servers integrity and for the owners of the restaurant. I don't suggest people stay away from going. The food and ambience is worth it (hence the reason for the good reviews here on yelp) But something needs to be done about the poor service. Please also note that not every waiter is like this, there is one lovely waiter who has probably been there the longest who is super sweet and super warm. read more

I spent 9 days as a tourist in London...and this was my favorite restaurant. Not only is it set in a quaint, beautiful, moneyed neighborhood that affords views of the city skyline, it's also just a gem and and of itself. The service was incredibly attentive without being intrusive. My waiter knew immediately that I needed to use the bathroom and, before I could ask, sent me off in the right direction. He also told me firmly that I didn't want certain combinations while ordering...which is great because I don't really know Greek food and appreciated his steering me. We did the lunch set menu...which is a great bargain at 12 pounds. We were starving and showed up exactly at noon, were seated very quickly. It was already 3/4 filled and, very quickly, the restaurant really filled up to capacity--tourists, locals, Londoners. It is a watering hole. So, it was great people watching with a lovely clatter and din. Just the kind of place you want as a tourist. For me, the house wines were an excellent deal: 5-6 pounds. And I found myself making my way through a few of them. Stick with set menu. It seems like the thing to do for lunch. You don't find this kind of restaurant in the States. Love this place! Went for dinner with seven other people around 7pm on a Saturday night. My uncle's Cypriot friend is a regular, so the table was ready for us when we got there. He ordered tarama, hummus, zatziki, aubergine salad, tabouleh, smoked salmon, halloumi, saganaki, sesame bread, and pita to start. All were delicious, but the tarama with pita was out-of-this-world good. Definitely get those as starters. For mains we got the pork souvlaki, lamb shashlik, chicken shashlik, kalamari fried, lentils, and okra. For dessert: baklava, vanilla ice cream, mix fruit platter, kataifi, and Turkish delight. All wine and food were great, especially the chicken. One caveat: I was not paying for dinner, so I can't speak to whether or not it was worth it. Why on earth this place is so highly rated is simply beyond me. Went with wife and son when we were on vacation last month and staying at a nearby hotel. We went precisely because of the positive Yelp reviews. Boy, were we ever disappointed. Arrived at around 7 on a Wednesday evening and were told, despite the place being more than half empty and despite the fact that we'd made a reservation through our hotel concierge, that we could have a table (by the beautiful open terrace windows facing onto the balmy London eve) only if we could be out in an hour. Yeah, nice way to greet your guests. Note that I had not requested said table, this was merely what was offered . . . and nothing else. The interior is, however, very pleasant and welcoming: Lots of light-colored wood, white ceramic tiles with the blue glazing, very traditional Greek. And it's quite spacious and airy, so despite the welcome, I figured it might be good. The menu is very large and diverse, but has many (most) traditional Greek fare that you'd find at any Greek place. I ordered the tuna steak (fresh catch), my son had a sausage sampler platter, and my wife ordered something traditionally Greek (I can't recall). I also ordered a glass of white wine and that came shortly . . . it was fine. Now, our server was probably about my age, maybe Greek, maybe not, but wow, talk about an attitude. He either did not want to be there, didn't want us there, or just wanted to talk to his fellow servers more than he wanted to serve us; the word "surly" comes to mind. This guy was so unenthusiastic and monosyllabic about the menu and the wine offerings, I wondered why he even bothered. During the course of the meal, after our entrees were served, guess how many times he checked back with us? Right, none. So, food shows up, my fish is overcooked but seasoned just fine, my salad is just chopped up iceberg lettuce with some carrot shavings and a couple of unripe tomato chunks in a very creamy dressing, my son's looks like a dog's breakfast (although he claimed it tasted fine), and my wife was happy with hers. I try to get our waiter's attention to order a second glass of wine but he is SO not paying attention to us. I don't know, maybe if you're a local and a regular, and don't speak with an American accent, you get better service. I was surprised and sorely disappointed. The only one of those you get here is tasty. Yes yes, I get it, it's in Primrose Hill (oooh so hip) and you'll probably be lucky to see someone famous there on any given night, but really, you don't need to pay THIS much for good greek, even in London. IF you are into the scene, then I guess this is your spot, if you are just looking for some good Greek food, you can certainly find as good cuisine if not better in this town that won't put such hurt on your wallet. I'm trying to think of a dish here I really enjoyed, and I guess it would be the baklava I had in dessert, but even that was more from the fact that I hadn't had baklava in years more than anything particularly out of this world about theirs. My aunt who used to live in this neighborhood highly recommended this spot to us for years. Our time schedule finally aligned for us to visit and we were not disappointed. The place was clearly popular but luckily large enough to accommodate us. The staff was friendly and courteous and the food was delicious and satisfying. This is THE place to eat in Primrose Hill. Great quality fresh food at reasonable prices makes a change from all the snobby cafes on Regents Park Road. Actually, I think the evening menu can be a bit pricey but the £9 lunch menu is an absolute bargain! This place is big with outside eating, a conservatory and upstairs as well as the main room but the service is fast wherever you sit. It's always busy too even on a quiet rainy afternoon - do these people not have jobs?! And, it's good for a bit of celeb spotting. For the first time in years, I got a recommendation the old fashioned way, aka mouth to mouth, not on yelp. One of my old professors told me I had to go here. My mum and I went when she was here to visit, and it was one of our best meals on her trip. I had a mixed seafood skewer, which was delicious: tuna, swordfish (aren't those endangered or mercury ridden or something? anyhow, it was tasty), crab claw, scallop, prawn, and some veg all freshly and simply prepared on charcoal grill with a squeeze of lemon. Exactly how I want my seafood to be. We also had some tziki and pita, which was also yum-worthy. Considering the quality of the food, the prices are not bad either. It wasn't too busy for lunch, so maybe that is the better time to go if evenings are busy? It isn't the hippest spot as far as interior decorating goes, but I suppose that adds to its charm. This place is an institution for our family birthdays, as it is one of the few places Dialysis Granddad (TM) can eat, I can't believe I haven't reviewed this already. The last visit was for aforementioned Papa Lou's 92nd. The staff are great, with an excellent sense of humour. One of the Cypriot waiters has worked at the restaurant for around 30 years, He gleefully informed grandpa that when you get to 100 you can get a free dinner. Never mind the telegram from Queenie, this is something for all of us to look forward to. They did unfortunately put the prices up a few years back making this place a bit more expensive, but it doesn't seem to hamper them one bit and it is consistently worth it. I am a sucker for anything charcoal grilled so the chicken shish is a favourite as is the haloumi. I recently tried the swordfish which was O M G good. Don't forget to order the rice pudding too. I guess birthday candles don't stand up very well in it, so they rather sweetly slash hilariously put one in a single square of Turkish delight for grandpa to blow out. Service was fine - it's nice to see older gentlemen serving in restaurants. I just don't know - for the price you'd expect more. I'd agree with Chrissy B here. I remember the tuna spread being yummy and taking more than once the button mushrooms. The lamb in the lamb chops were cooked better than the ones on the skewers, which were a bit dry and chewy. The chicken on the skewers though were tender and scrumptious. Overall I had a lovely meal and got to try a variety of tastes. The restaurant is located on a cute and quiet street, and the space itself is large and comfortable. Our waiter was also very helpful and friendly. read more
