Easily the best restaurant in London! Great wine selection and impeccable service. We ordered several small plates and appetizers so that we could try several dishes. Everything was absolutely delicious! The octopus might have been my favorite. You can't miss this restaurant! read more

A friend of mine had raved about Ottolenghi when she heard I was coming to London, so this restaurant was at the top of my must-try list. Maybe my friend over-sold it and got my expectations up too high, because I was pretty disappointed in this dinner. We were asked if we wanted still or sparkling water. We said still and were brought out a £4.50 bottle. I know it's common to charge for water in Europe, so I didn't think much about it until I noticed that everyone else around us had refillable glass bottles -- free tap water that we were never even told was an option. We were seated downstairs at a large communal table. I don't necessarily mind that, but it was so loud that having a conversation was very difficult. My cocktail was delicious, but so tiny. The wine list was decent -- a good mix of options at various price points. As for the food, it was very hit or miss. The mushroom starter and the pork main dish were delicious. Unfortunately, the two most expensive dishes were disappointing. The prawns had great flavor, but a strangely soft, mushy texture. For me, the flavor made the weird texture okay, but my husband couldn't get over the mushiness of the shrimp and hated this dish. The sea bream was very bland and dry -- highly disappointing for the most expensive item on the menu. We ended on a high note with the affogato dessert (Yum!), but for such an expensive meal, there were just a few too many misses for us. read more

This bustling Ottolenghi spot is always busy. We love the communal tables so we can visit with other diners. Tonight did not disappoint. We sat at the bar to start and my husband had a delicious cocktail, an easy speak, which featured an artichoke amaro, FEW rye and sugar. I opted for two veg dishes, the burrata with peaches, which I can never resist and an interesting roasted aubergine tossed with black lime and toasted coconut flakes. My husband has lamb kofti. I am a devotee of this wonderful chef and have all of his cookbooks. Unique pairings and unexpected combinations always make for an interesting flavor discovery. read more

We had some very delicious food here. We ordered sweet potato fritters (a little over fried and was very crisped), charred tiger prawns had a delicious sauce (but shell on so a little messy, but did come with finger bowls), roasted carrots (small portion and overpriced), mushroom risotto was amazing and flavorful (my favorite dish of the meal) and chocolate cremeux with cherries. We also got the cold pressed carrot, apple and ginger drink (not ginger enough). The service was great. The room was very noisy and the bathroom was interesting read more

We had an amazing dinner at NOPI tonight. We ordered many small plates, one main course, and dessert - all shared plates. We started with roasted eggplant with lime achar and onion that was delicious. Next was charcoal grilled tiger prawns, another tasty plate. And we had a really interesting, chickpea pancake topped with zucchini and pea sprouts. All of these are distinct interesting flavors. Our main course came next, a fillet of halibut with skin, perfectly grilled, topped with sprinkles of salt, along with peas and slices of leeks. We also ordered a side of roasted carrots topped hazelnuts that was delicious. Last we had an amazing Malvin cake: an apricot sponge cake accompanied with crème Anglaise and slices of apricot. The service was wonderful. The room downstairs was busy, spacious. We had a wonderful time! read more

After a long morning of sightseeing, my family hit a wall and we needed a break and some food. After hearing about NOPI from many friends and seeing their amazing Yelp reviews, we took the double decker bus across town and did a bit more walking with NOPI as our late lunch destination. Despite not having a reservation, we were able to get seated right away downstairs at the community table. The kids chowed down on multiple bread plates and my husband and I enjoyed the Aubergine, Octopus, Cod, Cauliflower, and more. We paired this with some lovely wine and enjoyed the attentive service and ambiance. The bathrooms are worth a visit if you make it in as well! We love Ottolenghi and constantly rave about their dishes and cookbooks...and we were so excited to try Nopi. It was good but we were a bit disappointed (perhaps we caught them on an off night). The service was wonderful (kind and helpful and attentive) but the dishes were inconsistent and varied from creative and delicious to kinda average. The carrots and the chicken were just ok but the fish was outstanding as was the bread. Good 4-star experience. read more

I treated myself to a fancy solo lunch during a recent trip to London, and NOPI had long been on my list since I own several Ottolenghi cookbooks (including the NOPI cookbook--which is way too complex to actually cook from at home!). The restaurant's elegant interior and gracious staff made my experience so memorable, and I felt both well taken care of and totally satisfied by my meal. I ordered a bunch of the small seasonal plates and two of the white wines, and everything was absolutely delicious--even the simple potatoes were surprising and perfect. Everything is made with the finest market produce and lots of thoughtful consideration for the flavor profiles. This is a delight for a splurge meal! read more

We had unexpectedly delicious dinner at the bar at NOPI. The bartender was really chatty and seemed to deight in his work. My husband had a "charcoal martini" was was odd but good, or so he said. The food was inventive. The burrata appetizer was excellent as was the black key lime tart. I especially loved the homemade bread. Great spot, definitely recommend! read more

And it happened again: incredibly creative compositions of food elements that one would never bring together - and yet Ottolenghi did it with expectedly phenomenal outcome. Love the interior atmosphere, style combined with relaxedness. None of the spectacular menu choices supported. PREVIOUS REVIEW Ottolenghi did not disappoint!! Being aware of many of his adorable dishes from the cookbooks, the moment I knew about my pending trip to London, I made a reservation weeks ahead of time as a spontaneous visit would not have had a chance to be successful. NOPI is one of several locations and very central, and by the way not excessively priced. The interior design was elegant modern, hip and yet warmly welcoming as if it was a table at the home kitchen. In fact, the lower level was exactly that with 2 very large shared table right next to the open kitchen and the backwall shelves with Ottolenghi merchandise. The noise level was significant, making conversations a bit of a challenge. But in the end, there was no time to talk, as one had to indulge into the beautifully and oh so delicious dishes. With all items to be shared, the waiter recommended 3 smaller items per person whereby a main dish would count as two. That was to the point and provided a nice tour through the menu list and still left space for a dessert. Burrata with Peaches, Roasted Beetroot, Mizo Glazed Hake, Crushed New Potatoes (P.S. glad they don't offer old ones), Twice Cooked Halfh Chicken were superbly done. The Strawberry Mess was not a mess at all to say the least. Great dinner! read more

First off, do not sit downstairs unless you enjoy spending $100/pp to sit in a what feels like a storage room next to swinging bathroom doors. FWIW, we sat at a very nice table in the back of the upstairs (main floor) dining room...I wouldn't want to sit in the front by the window either. The food was delicious, portions small, wine prices high, and pours by the glass paltry. One issue was our server, who was cold and overly aggressive in making us order too many dishes (3-4 per person)...when we ordered fewer, his demeanor changed and not in a good way! But the biggest issue, and why my rating isn't higher, is because of a single dish that was virtually inedible. (tomatoes with croutons) When we pointed this out to both our server and the manager, we just got a shrug and "we'll let the chef know". In America, and most other restaurants, they would have either removed it from the bill or maybe sent a glass of wine/dessert our way. Instead, nothing. Considering we dropped $400 on a fairly light meal (we had just flown in from LA that morning), I found the response sorely lacking. So Ottolenghi will not be getting any more of my hard earned cash, nor recommendations to my friends going forward. Shame. read more

I became obsessed with chef-owner Yotam Ottolenghi after getting his cookbook, and having a meal at this restaurateur's place was incredible. We started out with a couple of delicious appetizers: - Roasted carrot, cardamom labneh, and pistachio. This was spectacular, and the perfect bite included the sweetness from the carrots, the spice of the cardamom, and the tang of the labneh. Our main courses: - Grilled lamb cutlet, almond coconut curry, gooseberry & jalapeno It was hard not to be polite and pick up the bone of this succulent lamb and use my hands like a cavewoman and eat it. - Roasted sea bass, gochujang caponata, apple, radish, green peppercorn This citrus and tangy combination with purely delicious fish was a wonderful combination. - Our dessert was pannacota and passionfruit. It was the right mix of flavors and was so sweet and delicious. The waitstaff was also incredible, they made sure to take out the fresh coriander (cilantro) for our table. I would recommend coming here on a special occasion and enjoy this delicious Israelian cuisine. read more

Nopi is absolutely my favorite place to eat in London. I always have a good time when I come here, usually bringing a friend or some family members. The service is top class and the food rotates out rather frequently so you can always get something new. They will recommend 2 to 3 dishes per person, and I think this is fair: we got six between the two of us, and We were appropriately full by the end of the meal, without feeling stuffed. As I'm sure has been mentioned elsewhere, there are individual tables and bar, seating upstairs, with a communal table downstairs that's common at a lot of Ottolenghi's restaurants. If you only have a few days in London, I highly recommend making this one of your stops. read more

We were excited to get a reservation at Nopi (a Michelin one-star restaurant) for my birthday. However, most of the dishes were disappointing. They were beautifully plated but tasted bland without the Mediterranean flavors that we were excited for. We were very excited to get a table at NOPI and it lived up to our exceptions. Every dish was fresh and flavorful. Ottolenghi uses large quantities of herbs and spices to enhance the dish. This restaurant was recommended by my brother-in-law. He owns the chef's cookbook and the recipes are incredible! So we had to try it out. Since it was close to our hotel we figured it would be a nice breakfast stop before we visited the outskirts of the city. The restaurant itself is beautiful but from the outside it is easy to miss! So be on the lookout. As soon as we entered we were greeted by the hostess who offered to store our coats, yes, please! For breakfast I ordered the Shakshuka and my husband ordered a breakfast dish with pita, fried cheese, fried egg and salad. I tried the cheese and it was delicious! The Shakshuka was great. The bread it came with was perfect for the dish. At first I thought the portion seemed small but it ended up being super filling. I couldn't even finish my meal! What a treat. NOPI is one of Israeli Chef Ottolenghi's restaurants in SoHo London. The small sharing plates we enjoyed were tasty and healthy so it didn't feel like we were indulging. My favorite dishes for our late lunch were the small squid plate and the roasted lamb. The grilled squid was amazing especially with the spicy sauce and the roasted lamb dish was cooked so well. Reservations are truly necessary at this restaurant. While we went for a late lunch @2:45pm and called ahead, the restaurant was full and we had to wait for 15minutes. We met our pals here for dinner a couple nights ago. At the end of the day, we had a good meal at Nopi, but everything was absurdly overpriced (yes, taking into account London/the pound). We had far better meals here for less money and better value on our trip. For starters, the hugo cocktail was so refreshing with a perfect hint of sweetness, but you took three sips and then it was done because of all the ice in the glass. For 13 pounds: why? Not on par with the rest of the cocktail pricing in the city! The bread course was delicious, and we especially enjoyed the spiced kalamata olive oil that it was served with. The burrata was also good, as was the aubergine starter that was your typical Ottolenghi bite: bursting with different flavors that all get starring roles. The beets and labneh were lovely, but our favorite veg was the char sui cauliflower, which were magically fried in a way that we had never experience before: so crisp and tasty! For mains, we had the sea bass and lamb. The lamb was priced over 40 quid and you only got a handful of pieces that were overly fatty and not very well-cooked. The sea bass was fine, but nothing as impressive as the veggie apps. None of the desserts seemed that appealing, so we all settled on an apple sorbet that had some sort of alcohol with it. It was surprisingly effervescent and ended up being a nice finisher. Our server was very sweet, but she spoke very quickly and at times didn't seem as knowledgable about the menu when we had a couple questions. The bill ended up being over $300, which was shocking because we didn't feel like we had that much food amongst the five of us, so that was a sobering and souring final note to end on. One of us follows Ottolenghi on IG, and what seems clear since Jerusalem came out over a decade ago is that he has grown an empire that would be impossible for him to oversee intimately. Nothing tasted "homey" and we're bummed that we missed out on our Notting Hill bakery experience as well. Maybe we'll try Rovi if we're ever in London again, but we wanted more from a fellow Israeli, and Nopi just did not deliver. read more

Nopi is a delight for vegetarians that also puts up with carnivores. Chef Ottolenghi's vegetarian dishes all surprised and impressed - I don't think I'll ever look at turnips the same way. Dishes are served tapas style with exception of 3 entrees for those that insist on a more traditional dining format. As much as we loved the veg dishes the meat ones were just ok. Lamb is always a favorite and the entree of it was good but unlike his veg dishes was not inspiring. Eggplant dish was a fav. Ambiance is a bit bland but functional in all white. Upstairs is standard pleasant seating and downstairs a large communal dinning experience ideal for groups or making new friends. You can see in to the kitchen if dinning downstairs. We enjoyed Nopi so much that we ate here two nights in a row with different guests. The waiting area is a bit tight near a small bar. Excellent drinks but I wouldn't suggest arriving early. The staff/service was exceptional. As with most London restaurants Nopi can be pricey especially with needing to order several dishes to make a meal. Only regret was not picking up one of Ottolenghi's signed cookbooks. read more

I wanted so much to love this place after making many a delicious dish from the Ottolenghi cookbooks, but alas, it was no stunner, especially at the price point. Perhaps we simply came on an off night. But regardless, I will not be returning. Our server was attentive and had great recommendations for food (and the items we enjoyed the least were ones she had not recommended), but when we asked about drinks, she said she didn't drink and then proceeded to tell us what the most popular drinks were. I understand not drinking, but at an establishment such as this, at least be prepared to talk about which ones are supposed to be well balanced and so forth, based on what other servers you trust or the bartender conveys. Worth getting -- - Truffle parmesan polenta crisps with homemade aioli: the star of the meal, perfectly crisp, yet not oily, thick polenta fries with a nice texture of cornmeal on the outside, lusciously soft with a hint of truffle and parmesan on the inside, lovely with the aioli. - Herdwick mutton shawarma, kohlrabi, pickled watermelon, yoghurt, flatbread: nicely shredded, tender mutton, that paired really well with this combination of toppings, especially the bright watermelon (genius)! - Aubergine appetizer (had it been properly executed): based on all the rave Yelp reviews, we got these thick slices of tender, roasted eggplant, smothered on top with an almond yoghurt, red peppers, and ground spiced almonds. The first bite I has was fantastic. But then, we discovered that the second half of our dish was crazy oversalted. My biggest regret is not sending it back because it was clearly a mistake. But it was virtually inedible. - Michoacan Sherbet cocktail with Michoacan Mezcal, yuzu, fino sherry, barberry syrup, curry leaf -- really well balanced with just a touch of smoke, not too sweet, truly lovely - Banana and Cardamom cocktail with Pampero Blanco rum, Velvet Falernum, banana, cardamom honey, bitters, apple, lime -- again quite balanced and not too banana-ey Skip-- - Chickpea appetizer: Meh. It needed some crunch. I liked the flavor combination of the tomato sauced chick peas with crumbled goat cheese, some mint and cilantro, but it needed something else to tie it together, and much more cheese, mint, and cilantro, to balance out the ginormous heap of chickpeas. - Pan fried sea bream, smoked cod's roe, beans, samphire, pickled grapes: Good but unremarkable and unmemorable. Just a good piece of tender white fish, a bit lacking in flavor except when you have a bite with a bit of grape. read more

As a fan of Yotam Ottolenghi, I was really excited to try NOPI, the sister restaurant of Ottolenghi. The food served here is similar with Mediterranean vegetarian dishes as the highlight but the decor of the restaurant was more elegant and dynamic. NOPI served up a solid Shakshuka for breakfast. It was tangy and sweet with the right amount of creaminess from the eggs and smoked labneh. This also came with two slices of sour dough bread, which was great dipped in the runny egg yolk and tomato sauce. My friend and I also shared the scrambled tofu on sour dough with avocado salsa. This was yummy and felt clean yet filling, which speaks true to Ottolenghi's style of food! We were wandering aimlessly around Soho looking for a dinner spot when we stumbled upon this place. Since we didn't have a reservation, they weren't sure if they could seat us but the hostess was so kind that she sat us at the bar while she looked over the night's reservations to see if they had space. While we waited, we enjoyed complimentary marinated olives, spiced nuts, and other snacks. They found us a small table and we were ready to eat! Trusting our Spanish waitress who'd work there for years, we allowed her to bring her favorite dishes to our table. She suggested the mackerel with coconut salad and peanuts, scallops with pork belly and apple, twice-cooked baby chicken with lemon salt and chili sauce, roasted aubergine with saffron yogurt and pickled chili, butternut squash, courgette and feta fritters with cardamom yogurt, and burrata with coriander seeds and white balsamic. Everything was boldly seasoned, expertly prepared, and meticulously plated. The quality of food was phenomenal. Along with the meal, we tried their ginger cocktails and mocktails. Although we were pretty full after our dinner, we couldn't not order a couple of sweet things. We had the chocolate cake with orange oil and creme fraiche, along with the caramel and roasted peanut ice cream, chocolate sauce, and peanut brittle. NOPI is nothing if not versatile - dates, business meetings, group dinners, celebrations - they definitely do it all. On my first visit I dined downstairs with my BFF and her partner and we tried every veg item on the menu plus three desserts (they're vegetarians). I knew I had to come back. On my second visit I dined upstairs and my dining companion was 45 minutes late, which somehow didn't seem as awful as it sounds in the soft glow of the dining room. The third time ended up being the charm for me with NOPI, my dining companion on that visit said he'd give NOPI a sixth star if he could. And we've been back many times together since. Make sure to book a table at NOPI - I recommend reserving downstairs. It's communal, more casual and allows you to make new friends. Pay close attention to the vegetable options on the menu (even if you're a major meat masticator). I love the baby chicken (and you should order it) but I've always been blown away by the unique and super interesting vegetable preparations at NOPI- they can do magic with broccolini, beets, cauliflower and seemingly anything pulled from the ground. read more

Ok, let me add my mustard! (This is the literal translation of a German saying, meaning that you would like to add your opinion to the topic at hand.) I LOVED NOPI. I had been very much looking forward to trying out, as I had heard so many good things about it. And fortunately, despite having high hopes for this place, my expectations were not only met, but even succeeded! The thing I loved about this place is definitely not the price tag...it's the fact that the chefs can do so many wonderful things to vegetables. Think about it this way: usually, you get vegetables as a side dish and they come dressed up in clothes from Old Navy or Monsoon. Here at NOPI, the vegetables are the stars and they undergo a transformation by folks like Vivian Westwood or Alexander McQueen. The best way to sample as many dishes as possible, is to come with about three or four people and every person chooses between 2 and 3 dishes....you must make a reservation, especially on a busy weekend night or else you either might not be seated at all, or you might be waiting for a looooong time. And last but not least - do thy out their bathroom...it's quite a different experience as well ;-) read more

On vacation in London, I used Yelp religiously to find great restaurants for my family and me to try out. We love Mediterranean food, so when I came upon NOPI, with its nice photos, rave reviews, and the menu, we quickly made a reservation. Located in SoHo just steps from Regent St and Piccadilly Circus, NOPI is on a quiet street away from the hustle and bustle yet close enough to be convenient to walk to. When we arrived for our reservation at NOPI, the hostesses were so sweet and hung up our coats and and umbrellas (free of charge) before leading us to our table. On the main level, the space at NOPI is long and narrow with a small alcove in the front and a full bar in the back. As you can see from many of the pictures, NOPI is a bright space with lots of white and gold accents. Downstairs is the kitchen with a large communal table, perfect for private parties and large groups. The tables upstairs are suitable for small groups of 2-6 people. There's bar seating as well. The menu has many options, including dishes to share, and it caters well to vegetarians. My party and I started our meal with a few dishes to share: butternut squash and the sea bream. Both were absolutely delicious -- I highly recommend! For our main dishes, I had the duck leg confit while the other two in my party both had the chickpea pancake. We enjoyed all of our dishes. The duck was falling off the bone, and it was perfectly paired with a crisp, fresh coconut salad. We had two side dishes to share as well: brussels sprouts and the kale, apple, and turnip salad. We enjoyed our entire meal! For dessert, we had the blackcurrant sorbet and the roasted pineapple with coconut ice cream and macadamia nuts. Both were excellent, and I particularly liked the simple roasted pineapple that was warm and naturally sweet. We thoroughly enjoyed our experience at NOPI from the ambience and the food presentation to the food itself and the service from the hostesses and waitstaff. This is definitely a top restaurant on our list whenever we plan to visit London again! read more

It might be wise to make a reservation, but we did not. Eric R. had picked most of our meals in London and said, "This is your chance - what is the one meal you want?" I figured we ought to go to an Ottolenghi restaurant, and off we went to NOPI. We sat at the dining bar on the main level, and had an excellent bartender/server in Wojtek. He had a great sense of humor, was patient, and described the food when we asked about it. I started with an iced tea, but as that is not the norm in this part of the world, it was more like a mocktail with a splash of hot tea and something else. He made two for one and gave one to Eric R. He suggested we share four to five dishes. Our first dish was the roasted eggplant with almond yogurt and chilies. It was served cold and was absolutely delicious! We also received complimentary bread with very delicious olive oil. Our next dish was the mutton schwarma which had a lot of delicious scallions (my favorite veggie!) plus watermelon and pita. We also got the burrata with coriander seed and apricot, and the crispy trout marinated with koji with labneh and radish, topped with yuzu kosho. We ended up having the strawberry mess for dessert, our first version of the eton mess we had ever had. It was quite delicious with meringue, whipped cream, strawberries, and sorbet. Eric R. finished with a pot of jasmine tea. We loved the ambiance, the food, and the service. I would highly recommend coming here! The downstairs section has communal tables.
