Stifada, pulled lamb

Excellent and intimate modern Greek cuisine... my brother in law (who is Greek) found this place via Yelp! I believe. It is located near Kensington Gardens, about 1.5 miles west. We came here for lunch on a Friday after arriving earlier in the day from the United States. We were hungry! However, note that Mazi's food is served "tapas" style and is meant for sharing. We had a number of dishes, including modern takes on horiatiki and stifada. The pork belly tacos were delicious (but small). I also enjoyed the zucchini croquettes and eggplant dip (there are a number of vegetarian options). Overall the place is quite expensive. For four adults and two children, our tab came out to be about £150. On our way out, I noticed a pre-fixe lunch menu that offers two courses for £15 or three courses for £22. I should have paid more attention! (They never offered us this menu or mentioned it). Service was good. The food comes out when it is reward. They called a cab for us when we were about ready to leave. Definitely worth a try but don't expect what you would get at a true Greek taberna!

Mazi is a charming Greek tapas restaurant in Notting Hill, probably the best modern Greek food I've had in London. The menu is all sharable small plates. To start, Mazi offers a selection of "jars" which are freshly made spreads such as fish roe mousse and pureed grilled aubergine. The later was fantastic, I almost ordered a second one! Accompanied with homemade breads, ordering a few jars is the a perfect way to get your evening going---we were even provided with a small aperitif. For the main event, we shared a few dishes, the standouts being the Cool Souvlaki with crispy pork strips---which essentially is like a fresh Greek spring roll (Asian Greek fusion perhaps!), and the braised lamb with slow cooked shoulder baklava. The lamb was so tender it fell apart on my fork. I never had a savory baklava before, it's definitely going on my short-list going forward! Prices are high but not outlandish, most of the sharable plates are in the £8-15 range. Mazi is definitely worth adding to your short-list of Greek restaurants!

Despite the big-plate-little-food nature of the place the food is actually quite nice. Tasty, well presented, good service all nice. I don't know Greek food but it was all wonderful

Octopus with herb potato salad and olive tapenade!

HIGHLY recommend. This place had such a charming atmosphere with amazing food! You could tell all of their dishes were carefully made and handled with love. Everything just seemed so thoughtful and I loved the tapas vibe of it all. My friend and I shared the tempura feta with lemon marmalade and caper merengue (my favorite. wow.), octopus (very well cooked), grilled aubergine (eggplant) jar with soy and thyme honey, and the black truffle chicken, hunkar begendi. All amazing dishes! I want to try the lamb when I go back, because I was already so full from all of these. I love this place!

London is full of Greek cuisine, but Mazi has been my favourite for quite some time. Inspired by the foods of old Greece, this charming restaurant brings together classic dishes handed down for generations and a contemporary flair for presentation and style. The whole concept of Mazi revolves around the fact that their dishes are meant to be shared by every guest at the table, which was perfect for my friend and I. When we arrived, we were greeted by our friendly server, who was more than happy to explain the menu. We started with perfectly grilled aubergine, with a touch of soy and thyme honey, and an authentic tzatziki with only a pinch of garlic, which were uniquely presented in rustic glass jars. We also shared a hot plate of feta tempura, served with lemon marmalade and caper meringue. I loved the mix of the creamy feta with the crunchy batter, and the tanginess of the lemon and sweetness of the capers were spot on. For the one of the mains, we had grilled octopus, which was delicious and perfectly charred, and the herbed potato salad and olive tapenade were the perfect accompaniments. My absolute favorite part was the Greek desserts, which we shared, but I was more than content to eat them all myself. The Galaktoboureko was delicious, the custard creamy and the dough light and flaky, with a hint of sweet syrup. We also enjoyed frozen Greek yogurt, topped with candied quince and a cinnamon oat crunch. Yum! Mazi is the best modern representation of the Greek cuisine in London, and the service and staff were excellent and accommodating. I particularly loved the way the food was presented, which really tied the rustic vibe of the restaurant's décor into the food. I highly recommend Mazi for anyone looking to escape to Greece through their taste buds!

Great Greek restaurant! Not for everyone. Attentive, smart food, looks great tastes great, great concept and interior is amazing and homely. 6pm onwards is when things really get started.... it get's busy so book. I didn't know what to make of this place until i finished. At first, the staff seemed a bit robotic, it's not until you have a joke and a laugh with them that they relax, perhaps the pompous area who knows? Menu is short, simple and tasty; and for two people 2x jars and 2 hot plates is great to start. The waiters can recommend, however trust me until you order you wont know. So be open minded and be prepared to taste finicky social food- none of this my plate my plate... YOU F*CKING SHARE KIDS! Great location, not much else to say, oh 9 quid for a watermelon cosmo... but who cares right when you have food this affordable and different. Oh and one more thing....4 or more? don't even try it. See pics :)

Delicious! Fresh and yummy. We had the greek salad which is a must have, the aubergine jar which I found to be a bit salty, the spinach and zucchini entree (winner).

Interesting deconstructed dishes. No new taste. Just smaller and need assembly like ikea.

Went here for dinner right after checking into our hotel next door after we trekked from Athens…read moreInternational to Luten Airport on 10/24/2018. The owner is really, really into his restaurant and excitedly told us all about all the different specials and options. My sister and I got the set menu, the Artemis (meat) menu which was fairly steep at £27.50 per person. Food was good and came in courses. 1. Sauce sampler of hummus, taramosalata, tzatziki and baba ganoush with bread. 2. Meat sampler of a single keftede, spanakopita and loukaniko per person. 3. Horatiki salad. 4. Entree served family style of grilled pork and chicken. 5. Dessert of yogurt with honey, a single baklava, karydopita and kataifi per person. Courses came out fairly slow and they unfortunately forgot about us for our last course. The owner gives great service, but he can't be expected to be on top of every table as it got very busy. The female server with reddish hair (spoke Greek) seemed out of it and not a good help to him. We ended up spending more than 2 hours at the restaurant, and it came down to the owner not having good support from the one waitress around, but the food was very good. Would have preferred it to be a little less expensive, but I'd go back.

Unfortunately the hype didn't live up to the results. The octopus (You'll love it! It's amazing!) was too crispy / oily for me and felt overcooked. The eggplant dip was too acidic for me to have more than a few bites. The cod roe dip was bright pink to my surprise and it was yummy but thick, kind of like an aioli and I couldn't eat much.

I loved the feel of the place. Small but generous in personal space. Extra effort was made to make sure our party of 6 were comfortable. And the food was delicious. The welcome pre dinner treats such as olives, radishes, and peppers were delightful. Then came the hummus--best I have ever had. The king prawns were simply cooked and wonderful. Everything was so fresh! The calamari, the Greek salad. All excellent. The entrees our party enjoyed included lamb, chicken, spanakopita, falafel, and so much more. If I lived in the area, I would frequent the place. I even commented to my wife that I could see myself landing at LHR and making my way straight to Aphrodite!

But our host was the most pleasant man and fished out items from the kitchen that weren't only vegan but also delicious! To begin with, even without ordering anything, pitas, flava bean salad, and olives, which, by themselves, more than hold their own. The falafels are one of the best I've tasted in London. And the hummus was unbelievable. For mains, the dolmades were excellent. Even the roasted potatoes that our host offered, and which weren't on the menu, were amazing. Overall, the chefs and hosts at the Aprodite Taverna take real joy in feeding people. And I'd definitely go here again: for the food as well as the service.
