Lamb Kebab, rice portion on the right side, hummus to the left and chicken kebob on the back.

Food had an ok flavor, but the experience was not so great. Food took a long time to come. Greek salad not so Greek for being an authentic family owned restaurant. Greek salad in Greece has lots of feta (usually a block), lots of kalamata olives and thickly sliced cucumbers and tomatoes. Didn't see that on the plate. Lamb kebob was tough. Lamb in klefticon was very soft and came off the bone- wonderfully prepared. Hummus had a great taste. £6 for a small bowl- no extra dippers for the hummus. Chicken kebab was the best, it had a great flavor and it was well cooked.

Good Greek restaurant in Kensington. Family owned. Reading al if the other reviews I expected more from this restaurant, and overall it was just average and slightly over priced for what we got. Would not go back with all of the other restaurants in London.

This is hands down some of the best Greek food I've had. They provide an interesting starter which I've not had in any Greek restaurant my home country (USA). Fresh radishes and raw green onions. My husband joked I wasn't supposed to eat the table decorations. There are also pita bread slices, salty olives and pickled peppers on the table. It's a very cozy narrow restaurant with limited seating. I like the decor. The dark walls with oil paintings and low ceiling creates an intimate homey atmosphere. The kitchen is visible. It's also audible. This is definitely a family restaurant with loud raucous laughter and chatter. A stern looking grandmother kept an eye on the chef and wait staff. The waiters are gregarious. They treat you like family. Opa! We had the lamb casserole ( loved it!), grilled lamb kebab, quail kebab, moussaka (creamy goodness!) and a Greek salad. If that wasn't enough we had the baklava which had a refreshing citrus/lemon finish to it. I would definitely come back here the next time I'm in London.

The best Greek in the world! My husband was raised in London and has been eating at Helepi for 50 years. The food is outstanding and I love the intimate small feel of the restaurant. Clearly family owned and run and they do an amazing job. Best dish is the beef stifado- very tender stewed beef in a delicious sauce. The grilled meats are good as well, and we always start with a Saganaki cheese, which is very hard to find.

Quick update: As our London trip concluded this place ended up being the most expensive and the least impressive.

You will come here for the Klefticon, the fall-off-the-bone, slow-cooked lamb that Greek food is famous for.

The owner is really, really into his restaurant and excitedly told us all about all the different specials and options. My sister and I got the set menu, the Artemis (meat) menu which was fairly steep at £27.50 per person. Food was good and came in courses. 1. Sauce sampler of hummus, taramosalata, tzatziki and baba ganoush with bread. 2. Meat sampler of a single keftede, spanakopita and loukaniko per person. 3. Horatiki salad. 4. Entree served family style of grilled pork and chicken. 5. Dessert of yogurt with honey, a single baklava, karydopita and kataifi per person. Courses came out fairly slow and they unfortunately forgot about us for our last course. The owner gives great service, but he can't be expected to be on top of every table as it got very busy. The female server with reddish hair (spoke Greek) seemed out of it and not a good help to him. We ended up spending more than 2 hours at the restaurant, and it came down to the owner not having good support from the one waitress around, but the food was very good. Would have preferred it to be a little less expensive, but I'd go back.

Unfortunately the hype didn't live up to the results. The octopus (You'll love it! It's amazing!) was too crispy / oily for me and felt overcooked. The eggplant dip was too acidic for me to have more than a few bites. The cod roe dip was bright pink to my surprise and it was yummy but thick, kind of like an aioli and I couldn't eat much.

I loved the feel of the place. Small but generous in personal space. Extra effort was made to make sure our party of 6 were comfortable. And the food was delicious. The welcome pre dinner treats such as olives, radishes, and peppers were delightful. Then came the hummus--best I have ever had. The king prawns were simply cooked and wonderful. Everything was so fresh! The calamari, the Greek salad. All excellent. The entrees our party enjoyed included lamb, chicken, spanakopita, falafel, and so much more. If I lived in the area, I would frequent the place. I even commented to my wife that I could see myself landing at LHR and making my way straight to Aphrodite!

To begin with, even without ordering anything, pitas, flava bean salad, and olives, which, by themselves, more than hold their own. The falafels are one of the best I've tasted in London. And the hummus was unbelievable. For mains, the dolmades were excellent. Even the roasted potatoes that our host offered, and which weren't on the menu, were amazing. Overall, the chefs and hosts at the Aprodite Taverna take real joy in feeding people. And I'd definitely go here again: for the food as well as the service.

Honestly, feeling a strong sense to give a one star review. Never thought I would be asked to leave…read morethe table "because the next party has arrived"... and at a Greek establishment? With wine still in our glasses, and coffee still hot?! Sorry, have to give a HUGE thumbs down on service. And offer my disbelief and dissatisfaction at whoever is managing this restaurant and borrowing from Greek culture, whilst missing out on the key component of Greek dining. Either you're a sell out. Or you're an outsider and you're exploiting Greek culture and cuisine. One the website we get: "MAZI, which means 'together' in Greek", but it should be followed with, "... but don't take too long, we will ask you to leave." Having said all of that, and trying not to affect the rest of the review, food was not great. Mushroom Chicken was the best dish (was the priciest line item - second to their service charge - but the only dish that I was impressed with). Tiger Prawn risotto was very bad (both the prawn, and the risotto). Grilled Octopus was average (size, prep and quality of octopus left a lot to be desired). The Calamari Citrus was also less than average. Lot's of the seafood sadly missed the mark - Tuna Crudo was the most satisfactory of all the seafood items. I will say that the cocktails were prepared well. Including a welcome drink. And the juices were fresh - albeit expensive. In fact, everything was overpriced - but it is London, I get it. Still wish the food tasted better. The atmosphere was loud and energetic. The cherry on top was the service charge (highest line item on the bill). Cheers to ownership and management for appropriating Greek culture and putting a heavy London spin on the dining experience. My family would have had some choice words for you, thankfully they were not present to be insulted. Anyone wanting Greek food, I would recommend to look elsewhere. The culture and cuisine has A LOT to offer, unfortunately Mazi disappointed for us.

Came here on a recommendation of a friend who lives in London and we were not at all disappointed…read more We started with some great cocktails and I really enjoyed the Aegean Negroni I opted for; the addition of black pepper simple syrup really added to the complexity of the drink. Every single dish we had was superb, from the jars of tzatziki and tiropita to the crispy calamari and seabass tartare to start. The fresh bread, which was lightly charred, really paired well with the tzatziki and tiropita which were lightly whipped and so flavorful. The seabass came with a cucumber and jalapeno broth which had just the right amount of spice to elevate the fish. For main we split the lamb and grilled octopus which were both perfectly prepared. The lamb, which appeared to be sous vide, was cooked to an exquisite medium rare and the octopus had a great char both was still tender. The service and setting were both great and we highly recommend this establishment.
