A warm and charming Greek restaurant with fairy lights that give it a nice touch, especially during winter time. During the summer the little garden on the back can make you have and enjoyable dining experience. In terms of the food, I have no complaints. Feels and tastes authentic (to my standards), the moussaka is meaty and packed with veggies, whilst ouzo is a nice digestif (if you like anise). If you don't remember anything else about this review please remember this; try the appetizer made with cod roe, olive oil and garlic. Sublime. Service could improve a little as it is sometimes very welcoming, and sometimes a bit cold. It needs to become consistent, and when this happens they might achieve a wining combination. read more

Hungry and looking for a place to eat around Holborn and the British museum then this little Greek restaurant should be right up your street. They do a three course meal for £13.50? Like I'm sorry three courses for that amount of money in central London? Is that allowed?? The restaurant also has a courtyard which is more a parking lot but it is closed to the public so you won't get random people walking up to your when you are enjoying your meal. As with all London restaurant with an outdoor space.. Maybe consider some blankets when the sun goes down and the wind picks up.. We definitely got the chills as we was sitting there. I ordered the soup of the day which was a lentil soup with a grilles spring chicken and a traditional Greek custard cake to finish the meal. For the three of us with a bottle of wine and teas and coffee it was £26 each . That's a bargain if you ask me. Would definitely recommend this place a hearty place to grab a bite. read more

Good for gluten free and vegetarian. My husband is both and it's hard to find restaurants that cater to both dietary needs. I like meat and seafood so it's always a puzzle to find one place that works well for us. This did. The lamb souvlaki was great and he had the butter beans and eggplant dip. I absolutely love those random finds! Undecided as to where to go, and in the area, we thought that we would try this restaurant, although it has mixed reviews and looks a little pretentious from the outside, I can truly say that I am happy that we ventured into this intimate restaurant. The staff were friendly, professional and attentive. We started off the evening in the outdoors area at the back, located in a semi-seculded private and gated road allowing a refreshing open aired alternative to the somewhat closed in establishments that you find in central. Opting for the set menu, we also shared olives along with Taramasalata and Humous, whilst the humous had a spicy kick, the creamy and rich Taramasalata was the clear winner. Moving inside as the predictable English clouds opened, we were greeted by a small table adorned with a lovely red rose for our mains, Moussaka and Lamb Slovakia. The meat was simply amazing, cooked well and tender to the bite, the salad, fresh and crisp, and the rice, which I believe was risotto rice, fat, succulent and bulbous. The let down to the meal was the pudding, the options were fresh fruit, ice cream and a homemade cake. Whilst the cake was delicious and there was a lot of it, and it would have been nice to have a better selection. The house wine was also very palatable, which is often not the case. I went to Greece in the summer of 2012 and had not had good Greek food since I had been there. I was so excited to see authentic Greek food on the menu. This is a nice looking restaurant. Clean lines, bare wooden tables (no tablecloths, woo hoo!), gleaming glassware. I really loved the look and feel of the place. Haven gotten used to cheesy Greek places with fake vines hanging from the ceiling and horrible painted scenery of islands with blue and white buildings, Konaki was a nice change. The £12.50 three course prix fixe is great value. However, the food is average. We started with hummous and taramasalata. Both were nice but nothing out of the ordinary. It came with hot flat bread. When I mean hot, it was literally hot out of the oven and so burning hot that you couldn't eat it. The mains were also so-so. Veggie moussaka looked a bit like a ready meal. The lamb kebab was dry and chewy. I'm not really sure why this place is getting such rave reviews. For the price, it was good value but it does feel a bit like a pretty tourist trap. read more

Little Coptic Street in Bloomsbury has a wealth of restaurants, and hidden towards the end of the street is Konaki. The attendants were very courteous and polite. We started off with a plate of tzatziki and Kolokythakia, which was a plate of 3 courgettes stuffed with mince lamb, rice and spices, with egg and lemon sauce (I love that lemon sauce, btw). The moussaka was delicious too, although when it was brought to the table, we were a tad puzzled and what it was that we had ordered, because it looked like a big piece of poached salmon. Perhaps that's what stylized moussaka is meant to look like. :-) I had the Kleftiko, which is basically slow cooked lamb, with spices and seasonings. That was a large portion, and once the lamb is ingested it's not going to let you put any more in your stomach. But of course, since I was not willing to admit defeat, we went ahead and ordered the Baklava and the Galaktoburico, which was like a bread pudding of sorts. Not bad. Good value for money, great location, prompt service. Not blown off by the food, hence four stars, but I would go again. read more

Meh is exactly the word I would use to describe this restaurant. The place in itself is not bad, slightly old and a little cluttered with stuff but decently maintained. The food unfortunately is really nothing to be impressed with: the moussaka tasted quite dull and the lamb meat was chewy and not particularly tasty as well. I was really looking forward to eat lovely greek food like I did in the past but this restaurant is not the one in which I'll continue my "eating greek food" tradition. read more

I've been craving Greek food ever since I visited a terrible chain back home, so I was excited when I saw this place near our hotel. The ambiance is charming and the waitstaff friendly. Despite the strange Tudor/Arts'n'Crafts decor, be assured that Konaki serves only the best, most traditional Greek food. They even have pastitsio, a macaroni-like dish that is rarely served outside of Greece. Everything is hearty, the tzatziki has the right amount of garlic, and the staff (all Greek-speaking) are lovely and warm. Their lunch set menu is well worth it. There are a number of vegetarian options and an extensive Greek wine list; in the summer, eat outside in the pleasant little square behind the restaurant. Very quaint little restaurant off a little side street. Toasted pita with the creamiest and most delicious hummus I can remember. Great find! Good and authentic Greek restaurants are a rarity in London. We went with friends who wanted to eat Mediterranean style food. The restaurant is right across from the British Museum and run by a Greek family. The menu is authentic, lots of veggie options too, and a grest Greek wine list. In the evening they have a very reasonably priced menu for 14.50 on offer, with a starter and main course. We ordered a shared cold starter platter and three warm starters. Followed by a pork souvlaki, grilled sea bass, beans in tomato and a Greek salad. Lots of wine, three desserts, ouzo. The service is good and they even have an outside space, which was perfect for the warm day yesterday. Definitely recommend and will also take my Greek friends there. read more

I couldn't in all conscience give Konaki less than five stars. My Greek friend comes here every time he's in London, especially for slow-cooked dishes such as kleftiko which he doesn't always have time to prepare at home. Even the fish are flown in from Greece. The wine list has an excellent selection of Greek wines - you don't have to stick to retsina! The restaurant is very comfortable, and the friendly and welcoming staff haven't changed in the decade or more I've been coming here. If you like the Greek kitchen as much as I do, you'll become a regular. read more

I have been coming here for about ten years and thank God it continues to retain the same authentic Greek atmosphere. Make sure you are ravenously hungry and you have one or two notches available to stretch your waistband because the meze keeps on coming and coming and coming. I was even so confident about this place that I even recommended it for a large party of people from my workplace for an evening out. I am full Greek, and I know Greek cuisine. My mother and grandmother have taught me well. The food here was pretty authentic. The problem was the service. I ordered the Sea bass. A full fish was brought to me, and I politely asked the server to send it to the kitchen to have it deboned for me. What a joke. I was spitting bones out in my napkin every five seconds. It was revolting. It was at the point where it was completely in edible. I asked the server to exchange it for another dish. The other dish was dolmades. The server notified me that if I wanted another dish, I would have to pay for it in addition to the fish . I was mortified. Never in my whole adult life, was I asked to pay for a dish that I did not even eat. I literally only ate about five bites of the fish at most . Since I was a tourist in London, I was absolutely starving, and refused to go hungry. I was in London for work, and all my food costs were expensed. Since I was not paying out of my own pocket , agreed to pay for both meals. If this were my own money, I would've chosen to go hungry . The second dish I ordered, it was actually quite good. It was just a shame that the restaurant will not accommodate a guest . I wasn't asking for a free meal, I just wanted to order something else instead. I had ordered a bottle of expensive wine, and multiple appetizers. It was clear that I was not looking for handouts. It's such a shame that this experience happened to me.
