    Spicy Lebanese sausage

In ExCel and have limited time to travel into town for proper food, and wanted some nearby ethnic food? This is THE spot for it. Second night here, and had previously gone to another Lebanese restaurant the night before. This is only 0.6 mile away from Aloft and is 5 short minute walk from the ExCel. I ran pass by it the day before and I was quite pleasantly surprised this is NOT inside of the ExCel but rather close to the dock. Took photos of it so that I'd remember to come for the evening meal after the show. At 9:30, the restaurant was not too crowded. Ordered Beirut hummus and Lebanese sausage to start. For mains, we had lamb stew, lamb shank, mixed grill and chicken kabobs, It was a lot of food, and they were very very tasty. The place is average priced for Lebanese food, and the portions are fairly decent. The flavors are really good, especially that it came with chips (for us Americans, it's fries, but for the little people who grew up with Charlie and Lola and Doctor Who, they know what's what) for the little people instead of the rice. A very nice gesture. Bread was very fresh. A super satisfying meal. An unexpected treat of that evening: there were fireworks off the dock. While in Britain, someone is celebrating Fourth of July like us. I can assure you this never happens in France over Fourth of July. As happy as it can be.

Came here at 3pm on a Friday. It's only a 5 minute walk from ExCel West Gate, and much better than the food found inside. Chicken Soup - very bland and strong cilantro flavor. The shredded chicken inside were obviously just boiled with simple turmeric probably because there was no taste to them and it made it more bland Turkish tea- great and delicious. A small pot for 2.50 Pounds. Lamb Shank- Huge Portion! The women at the other table were astonished when it came out. Rice mixture has meat pieces inside (not mentioned in the menu). Sauce is slightly tangy. Pretty delicious combination. Meat melted off the bone. For those who like fat there was plenty of it.

Vegetarian platter for one. Filling and delicious.

I visit ExCel a lot but I've rarely explored beyond the exhibition centre to the docks. After writing a particularly nasty exam today, I was ravenous and went in search of food. It's not cheap here but I had a massive vegetarian platter for £10.95 and it was delicious. I'll definitely bring back my other half next time we take a flight on the Emirates air-line.

Fresh strawberry, mango, pineapple juice. Yummy.

The staff though is nice and even when we left, a man rolling the dough for the flatbread gave us a sincere thank you for coming. The decor is also very cool, with walls painted a warm mustard brown colour and tchotchkes everywhere. The menu in the restaurant is slightly different from the online menu, which is a bit annoying as a vegetarian bc I was really eager to go here based on what I saw online. We ordered the panir-o-sabzi to start and whilst a big plate, the description didn't match the meal. I expected feta cheese blended with tarragon, mint and walnut, almost as a spread, with walnuts. Rather it's a big salad with radish slices and 2 halves of a pretty tasteless cheese, and walnuts. Piping hot bread is served with it. Next I ordered the mirza gasemi which was the best-tasting dish of the night: a soupy mix of aubergine, whet and tomatoes, it was perfect with the bread. My main, the ashak, was a big dish but a big downer: very bland despite the heaps of sauces. My husband got the grilled chicken with a specialty rice of orange peel, almond slivers pistachio and grated carrot and salad: again a huge plate. The orange peel was the most distinctive, delicious taste, basically caramelized. My husband loved the spicy green sauce that accompanied his meal.

It was well after the lunch rush, and before folks started showing up for dinner, so I had the restaurant to myself. I looked over the menu, and decided that I wanted their hommos schwarma starter. After I had ordered it, I changed my mind, and felt I really wanted the spicier version of their hommos instead, the hommos Beiruty. They ended up giving me both, charging me for one, and provided loads of pita. I was looking for a snack, but this was turning into a meal! Anyway, I mentioned that I really enjoyed ayrans, a salted yogurt drink common to the Mideast, and asked if they could make one (it wasn't on the menu). The cook said he most certainly could, and had his own special recipe. Wow. They were not only providing a fairly cheap meal, but also a special drink not even on the menu! Anyway, both plates of hommos were tasty, especially the hommos Beiruty. The ayran, however, was in a class all to itself: it was singularly the best ayran I'd ever had in my life! I finished it, and they came by and filled up another glass (free of charge, no less). I walked out for 16 pounds, and had a bunch of leftovers! I regret with my activities this week that I could not stop by again. But I told folks I knew here all about it. Well worth a visit if you're in Guildford, even for the day.
