If I could give this place more than five stars, I would. Hands down one of my new favorite spots. From the moment you walk in, the restaurant is stunning. The decor is thoughtfully done with beautiful details that make the space feel warm and welcoming, yet still elegant and elevated. The book wall alone is worth the visit. It's such a unique art installation and adds a really personal, curated touch. We started with cocktails and oysters, and both were outstanding. The oysters were incredibly fresh and beautifully presented, making the perfect way to kick off the meal. Every course that followed somehow got even better. We ordered the beef filet, short ribs, Brussels sprouts, and a Caesar salad, and every single dish was a hit. The filet was unreal! So tender it practically melted with every bite and packed with flavor. Officially my new favorite steak spot. What truly sets this place apart, though, is the people. The staff was attentive, friendly, and genuinely welcoming, which made the entire experience even more memorable. It was our first time dining at Archive and some dishes we ordered were delicious while others were very disappointing. We started with the marrow appetizer and octopus and both were great. We ordered the short rib gnocchi, ribeye and brussel sprouts and all three were okay. The 16 ounce ribeye had at least 6 oz of inedible fat, the brussel sprouts were really greasy and the short rib dish didn't have much sauce and was cold. The service was fair (service was slow with refilling water and server didn't ask if we were celebrating anything, which we were) but the ambiance was nice. Overall we'll likely come back to give it another chance but will definitely not be ordering the ribeye again. read more

Ate here last night for the first time since it was Espadín, and me and all my friends thoroughly enjoyed everything. We sat outside initially and it got a bit cold so Kaelin who wasn't even our server welcomed us inside which we appreciated. We had the shrimp cocktail, it was fine, we've had better. We also got the ribeye. I was Wierded out to begin with because it looked gray in color on the outside. Was undercooked but we decided not to send it back. About half the steak was pure fat. We like our steaks fatty but this was like nothing I'd ever seen. As far as taste.... I could only get through a few pieces. I don't know how to explain it but it just tasted off/strange. And I don't even know how they cooked it. No grill marks, no crust from a pan, was it boiled? I have no idea but it was the strangest steak experience I've had at a restaurant. For the price, we should have been impressed and we definitely were not. read more

The restaurant was out of oysters, out of beef carpaccio and out of the whole fish. Three key items on the menu and they were out. Ended up getting the steak which was fine but under seasoned. Walking up to Archive: "I sure hope this place is great! Temecula doesn't have any good steakhouses." Walking out of Archive: "...Temecula doesn't have any good steakhouses." Here comes the novel: I desperately wanted to love Archive. I'd be ecstatic if Temecula had a great steakhouse, and this menu looked promising. This place was unfortunately a huge disappointment and not worth ever returning to. Right off the bat, they tell me the reservation I made weeks ago was assigned to the patio because I "didn't select inside seating". I told them that I didn't get a seating option when I made the reservation. They suggested I "might have missed it". Why would any one make a patio reservation for 7pm on a February night in old town? I could have my pick of seats at any restaurant patio to enjoy a meal in 48° weather. But whatever, maybe it was my fault. Later, I'll check the Archive website where I made the reservation from my phone...and there IS NO OPTION for seating selection inside vs. patio in the Yelp reservation that is made through their own website. You should maybe understand your own reservation system before telling a customer what they did or did not do. I am apprehensive walking to the patio, as the inside vibe doesn't really match the menu, but we're here already so we order. First appetizer: bacon wrapped scallops. The parmesan crisp or whatever it was has no place on the plate, but that's minor. Scallops are inconsistently sized meaning 2 are overcooked. Not egregious. However, the bacon is so thick and that we are left with nearly 2 full strips of completely raw bacon on our plate. Not appetizing. Bacon wrapped scallops have been done for 40 years - we aren't treading new ground here. You either par-cook the bacon or use very thin bacon to avoid this exact issue. Really basic stuff. Second appetizer: beef carpaccio. Here's where it really starts to go off the rails. Why is it cut so thick? Why am I chewing so much? Is this even filet? There is just no way a chef tasted this and was like "yup, that's a great carpacccio". I refuse to believe anyone actually enjoys this as it was served to me. It's as if this dish was done by someone who saw a picture of beef carpaccio on the internet and decided to make it without ever actually having been served it before and understanding what makes a good one. It's also inconsistently seasoned slice-to-slice, with one slice being a salt bomb and another being bland. Shame, as all the other stuff on top would have made for a fun dish if they didn't screw up the most vital part. The drinks are taking forever. I spot my drink half-made on the bar and watch it for about 15 minutes until the bartender finishes it and my waiter brings it over. Did they run our of ice? Maybe patio guests aren't prioritized by the bartender? We proceeded to order an entree for reasons that I cannot explain. Short rib and "gnocchi". Again, short rib and polenta or whatever is nothing new - people have been doing good versions for years and years. This is not that. This "15-hour" "short rib" tastes and also suspiciously looks like a 4 hour chuck pot roast. This doesn't even appear to be the right cut. I hate stringy radish roots left on the plate for a "rustic" style, but I can see how that would be subjective. We move on to the gnocchi, and initially I wondered why I only got 5 or 6 of them, but soon found out that was more than enough. Why are they flattened like a pancake? Why does it look like someone literally stepped on them? Can they possibly still be fluffy and not dense in this format? No, they're just as dense and rubbery as they look. It makes me wish I was the kind of person that takes pictures of my food - these were comical looking. Again, this comes across as someone made a dish not even having decent gnocchi in their life - and this is peasant food! Anyone with a potato ricer can make better gnocchi at home. The fact that this dish was $50 is absolutely criminal - someone should be perp-walked out of this place in handcuffs. We decide to skip any steak and the single dessert on the menu, and go down the street instead for some tacos. All of these problems are fixable, but there's really no reason to ever go back to see if they have done that. Maybe the place taking over the Bank will be decent. I will say Cody was great and did they best he could serving this stuff and dealing with the bar. Give the guy a raise. read more

The service & most of the food is mediocre at best. We ordered the Caesar salad for an appetizer-our main dishes come out but never the salad. We bring it up with our waitress -she didn't seem to know what happened & appeared as if she forgot she took the order to begin with. Maybe the kitchen staff forgot to make it who knows. Anyways, we get the Caesar AFTER our entrees and it's just bad. Barely any dressing or flavor in the salad. The chicken mushroom dish had overall dry & bland chicken. The waitress asks us how the food is- my fiance tells her outright the Caesar is just bad & she takes it away (mind you she still left it on our bill anyways but I digress lol). The cookie desert is underwhelming , cookie dough seemed poor quality - the one you get at a basic chain like BJs tastes much better. The only good thing on the menu we tried is the short rib gnocchi , and the overall restaurant decor is nice - it's why this a two star review instead of one. read more
